- Chapter 27 - Another Bite
Fan Yi let out a helpless chuckle, his thumb tracing the shape of the young woman’s lips, his expression almost entranced.
“I know you don’t like it, but Tangtang wants to leave so badly it saddens me deeply.”
As the last word fell from his lips, he abruptly leaned in, pressing her down onto the bed, his crimson lips hovering dangerously close to hers.
Si Tang trembled at the chill of his body temperature, yet his gaze burned like fire, instantly dragging her back into the chaotic entanglement of those five days and nights.
“I’m so sad, Tangtang,” he repeated, his tone genuinely sorrowful, yet his narrow, deep-blue eyes brimmed with a morbid delight.
His rosy lips curved upward, as if he were admiring a possession firmly within his grasp.
He seemed utterly mad.
Si Tang had no doubt he was completely insane. Perhaps this was his true self: steeped in bloodshed, how could he understand love?
“Madman.” After a long silence, the words finally escaped Si Tang’s throat, heavy and strained.
He appeared entirely unbothered, the curve of his lips deepening as a low chuckle rumbled in his throat.
“Tangtang is right.”
With that, he shifted to lie beside her, pulling her petite frame into his embrace from behind.
Si Tang struggled fruitlessly, overwhelmed by a mix of shame, anger, and despair.
The familiar cold fragrance enveloped her senses. In her fury, Si Tang turned her head and bit down hard on the deity’s neck, as if she wanted to tear the flesh from his body.
Fan Yi’s body stiffened.
His voice was hoarse and rough. “What are you doing?”
The mermaid race was inherently savage, and during courtship, they delighted in marking their mates to claim their territory.
Though Fan Yi was a deity, he carried mermaid blood and their primal instincts.
The pain in his neck was trivial; he didn’t understand that this was a human expression of hatred.
Instead, he felt his blood surge with excitement, his nerves tingling with an indescribable thrill, almost akin to the faint loss of control during mating season.
Si Tang silently pressed her lips together, tasting his blood. It carried a strange fragrance, and upon accidentally tasting it, she felt her body grow remarkably light. Legend had it that mermaid blood granted immortality and could cure all ailments.
Though deities possessed powerful regenerative abilities, Fan Yi took pleasure in preserving the bite mark on his neck, treating it like a cherished emblem.
“Tangtang, bite me again,” he said, actually offering his neck to her once more.
Si Tang: “…”
How did biting him bring him pleasure?
Pressing her lips together, she turned her head away in despair.
Fan Yi’s gaze clung to her as he reached out to gently wipe the bloodstain from her lips, finding her breathtakingly beautiful.
Si Tang closed her eyes, as if shutting out all her senses.
No one could be more despairing than she was.
He showed no intention of leaving. Now, he didn’t even bother pretending, simply holding her as they lay together on the large bed.
Just as Si Tang closed her eyes, feigning sleep to plan her next move, a cool, damp sensation suddenly touched her earlobe. Her eyes snapped open in alarm, and she turned to see the culprit nuzzling against her neck, filled with a certain lingering attachment.
Yet his gaze was bare, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
“What are you doing?” Si Tang exclaimed in shock.
“Tangtang…” His voice was drawn-out and slow, yet it felt like a knife slowly slicing through her nerves. “In seven days, let’s become mates, alright?”
His tone sounded inquiring, but his eyes told a different story.
Si Tang thought that knife had truly fallen upon her nerves. Her head buzzed, and the veins on her forehead throbbed violently.
Is there no one to rein in this mad fish?? Where is the Heavenly Dao? Where is the Lord God? What about the gods in his diary who wanted to judge him??
Fan Yi, however, misinterpreted her silence as confusion.
He cheerfully explained to her, “Oh, ‘bonding’ in the terms of your human world would be equivalent to marriage. However, bonding among deities cannot be dissolved like human divorce, as it signifies an eternal contract between two souls.”
Si Tang: “…”
Si Tang did not believe in gods, but at this moment, she wished she could kneel to the earth and beg some divine being to save her!
Unwilling to yield, she retorted, “I don’t want to! What can you do about it? Even if you kill me, I won’t bond with you!”
The smile gradually faded from his face.
He pulled the girl back into his embrace, his cold gaze fixed on her stubborn almond-shaped eyes. Under the direct stare of those eerie, mesmerizing blue eyes, Si Tang felt as if she had once again plunged into a state of chaos.
This familiar sensation had occurred twice before, but this time it was clearly no joke, she found herself uncontrollably wanting to obey him.
Si Tang’s vision began to blur, her rationality locked in an internal struggle as she could still hear the deity’s merciless words falling beside her ear.
“Tangtang. don’t you know the definition of ‘compulsion’?”
“Even if you were to become a fool, I have ways to make you sign the bonding contract. But Tangtang, do you truly wish to live this life as an idiot?”
“That wouldn’t matter either. because in the next life, Tangtang won’t be a fool anymore. And I, as Tangtang’s partner, will appear by your side in every lifetime to come.”
His tone was both longing and tender.
Yet his words were ruthless and icy.
When Si Tang regained her senses, the memory of that mindless state sent chills down her spine.
He could control her, even at the cost of her losing her sanity and becoming a fool, just to bond with her.
Si Tang did not want to lose her mind, nor did she want to bond with him.
In the end, she fell into a quiet, hopeless silence.
Morning.
Si Tang had not slept all night.
She felt deeply lost and terrified about her future.
Fan Yi’s possessiveness felt like a shackle not only for this lifetime but for all eternity, trapping even her soul with no escape.
The cave knew no distinction between day and night, illuminated only by the faint flicker of orange candlelight. The signal of dawn came from the cheerful chirping of birds outside the cave. Si Tang longed to become one of those little birds, if only she could fly away from this place.
At some point, the deity had stopped holding her captive in his embrace and instead sat in an antique chair not far away, quietly watching her feigned sleep.
Unable to keep up the act, Si Tang silently rose and rubbed her eyes.
Suddenly, a figure flashed before her, and a gentle hand softly caressed her face, as if filled with lingering affection.
Si Tang immediately bristled, as if touched by the devil’s own warmth.
And on this morning, the deity spoke to her calmly.
“Tangtang, let’s make a bet.”
Hearing this, Si Tang looked at him in bewilderment, unsure what new trick he was up to.
Fan Yi’s dark robes fluttered gracefully, his jade-white face serene and gentle. His snow-white eyelashes trembled slightly in the candlelight, showing no trace of malice.
Then, Fan Yi slowly drew from his robes a scale that faintly glowed with a white light. The silver scale was adorned with intricate golden patterns, appearing exceptionally beautiful and enchanting under the white glow, like glazed glass. Si Tang recognized it at once—it was unmistakably a scale from his fishtail.
“I will be away for some time. If it shatters after seven days, then Tangtang shall live her own life. I will let go completely.”
After speaking, he silently handed her a book.
“This is what you’ve always wanted. If you wish to change your fate, it may offer some assistance.”
His tone remained remarkably calm as he said these words.
Si Tang was stunned by the sudden shift, staring at him in disbelief.
It was hard not to overthink, his demeanor strongly resembled someone delivering last words.
But gods are immensely powerful. How could that possibly be?
