- Chapter 25 - Freedom, You Shall Never Have It Again
Beneath the sea. The Atlantis Palace.
Layers of shimmering light overlapped, casting reflections on the glistening silver fishtail. Fan Yi lay quietly asleep within a giant seashell, his silver hair swaying with the underwater currents.
Yet, a faint white light flickered at the center of the deity’s brow.
After a moment, he slowly opened his eyes, gently touching the lingering warmth on his forehead, a shadow passing through his gaze.
He summoned 8856.
8856 felt miserable but dared not disobey. It sensed nothing good was coming.
“What are your orders, Lord Fan Yi?”
Fan Yi’s slender, jade-like fingers slowly turned and extended from his brow.
“You have been here since the birth of this world. You must have seen much. Tell me, what is this?”
A speck of white light rested in his palm, faintly revealing a vine with white blossoms. The petals were pure and flawless, the entire plant as white as jade, marred only by a hint of black at the roots and a crack as if it had once been broken.
8856 drew closer, and upon recognizing the object, its golden light began to flicker nervously. If it could take human form, it would have been trembling, clearly desperate to flee the scene.
Seeing 8856 squirm in silence, Fan Yi spoke coldly.
“Speak.”
8856 obediently halted its frantic reactions.
Yet it hesitated, uncertain whether to tell the truth.
“Lord Fan Yi, this thing.”
Just as Fan Yi was about to lose patience and summon his trident, 8856 blurted out loudly.
“It’s the Thread of Love! This is the divine scripture’s legendary Thread of Love!”
Moreover, it was nearing completion. When that happened, heavenly thunder would surely descend. Damn it, its 8856 world was still only a low-to-mid-level realm it couldn’t withstand such devastation! It still aspired to cultivate into a high-level world someday!
Over countless eons, though the Primordial God had created the Thread of Love and the heavenly thunder, none among the deities had ever truly grown one. Legend had it that the severity of this divine punishment varied by the deity the higher their authority, the heavier the retribution. Even with supreme divine power, one could suffer grave injuries, taking millions of years to recover.
And Sea God Fan Yi was the first deity to grow a Thread of Love. But he was only three thousand years old, how could he emerge unscathed?
Seeing Fan Yi fall into a quiet silence, his deep blue eyes unreadable, 8856 seized the chance to advise, “Lord Fan Yi, you should seek guidance from the Primordial God! Humans and gods are fundamentally different. If you remove it now, everything can return to how it was. Besides, you’ve just faced judgment; another divine thunder punishment could leave you severely wounded, or worse, scatter your soul to the winds!”
“Do I need you to tell me that?” Fan Yi shot it an impatient glare.
8856 had no idea what he was planning. Its golden light spun anxiously in place, unsure whether to report to the Primordial God immediately.
“Dismissed,” Fan Yi said indifferently, adding another threat, “Remember, do not tell my brother. Otherwise, I will turn the ocean floor of this world upside down.”
8856: Living nightmare!
As the golden light faded, Fan Yi looked down at the white-glowing vine in his palm, as if gazing upon a rare treasure, a softness gradually spreading across his expression.
“So this is love?” he murmured, incredulous.
No wonder he wanted to bond with her.
Nearby, the trident: I wish I were dead.
Weary of life, it silently watched its Lord Fan Yi acting like a lovesick fool. The Fan Yi, known throughout the divine realm for his untamed arrogance, was now wearing such an expression. How bizarre.
But had he not yet realized the severity of the situation?! If Lord Fan Yi were to perish, wouldn’t it have to go down with him?!
Heavens, we’re doomed!
Of course, Fan Yi couldn’t hear the trident’s internal screams. After admiring the vine in his palm for a while, he quietly placed it back between his brows and began to rest with his eyes closed.
Trident:
Had he still not realized that disaster was imminent?!
What a bizarre state of mind.
The trident was already preparing its last will.
After an unknown amount of time, Fan Yi opened his eyes and silently took out the Divine Tome. The pages rustled under the influence of divine power, but the page he sought was nowhere to be found. He resumed his search through the library.
A moment later, he finally found what he was looking for in a book with a blank cover page.
A faint light fell upon the deity’s clear, azure eyes, which held a trace of anticipation that baffled the trident.
It quietly shifted backward, trying to sneak a peek at what Lord Fan Yi was reading. But Fan Yi’s attention was entirely captivated by the book’s contents, paying no mind to its subtle movements.
The page detailed matters of divine matrimony.
“Matrimony: A deity may have only one lifelong partner. By making a vow in the Matrimony Scroll and imprinting a handprint, the two shall become heart-linked, their souls forever marked by one another.
Note: Humans and deities cannot produce offspring. Such unions defy divine law and are strictly forbidden.”
Fan Yi’s gaze swept over the last line, scoffing disdainfully. What were divine laws to him? What did it matter if they had no children? He could return his authority to the Heavenly Father and let Him find another deity to inherit and continue it.
All he wanted was to be with her forever, as described in the sacred scrolls.
He wanted her soul to belong to him eternally. Even through death and reincarnation, he would recognize her at a glance.
Fan Yi coldly closed the book, his pure, deep blue eyes filled with ruthless determination and sinister resolve.
The trident nearby: Terrified, it fled.
Lately, Siting found Fan Yi’s behavior increasingly strange. He spent more and more time with her, even though she had told him she no longer needed protection.
Perhaps it wasn’t protectionit was surveillance.
Beneath the calm and stability surged turbulent undercurrents.
She ate the wild fruit Fan Yi had picked for her, the sweet fragrance blooming on her taste buds.
“Is it good?” His gentle smile was so captivating, as if stars were sprinkled within it.
Lately, he had been acting exceedingly agreeable, but Si Tang knew that mentioning leaving was his sore spot.
“Fan Yi.” She hesitated, unsure how to continue.
“Tangtang.” He interrupted her. “Didn’t you want to see other places? How about I take you to another island today? There are even more beautiful butterflies there.”
Si Tang felt helpless, not knowing how to explain to him that this wasn’t how friends should behave.
“Fan Yi, I want to go home. I promise, after I return, I’ll come back to the island to see you.”
Fan Yi tilted his head slightly, his gaze fixed on her face. “Come back to see me?”
Si Tang nodded repeatedly, assuring him, “As long as you take me back to the shore, I won’t forget you. I will definitely come back to visit you.”
“Visit me, but not stay?”
Si Tang: “…”
Was his possessiveness towards her a bit too intense?
“Fan Yi, even friends need to give each other some personal space.”
The moment her words fell, Si Tang felt the air around them freeze over.
Fan Yi’s lips tightened into a firm line, the veins on his clenched hands bulging. Suddenly, as if he had reached his limit, his cold, sharp brows relaxed slightly.
“Freedom.” He lowered his gaze, the warm light filtering through his snow-white lashes, casting a shadow over his eyelids. A faint, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he murmured softly, “You will never have it again, Tangtang.”
