After Swapping Identities With My Archenemy - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: Falling into Her Arms
The moment the light shone on it, Jiang Huaiyi felt the strength on her feet suddenly increase.
Before she could finish her sentence, “I can’t swim,” she was dragged into the water by a strange and powerful force.
With a “plop,” a thin membrane-like thing instantly covered her ears, and she couldn’t hear anything.
Jiang Huaiyi was pulled into the water by a ghost. Because she was unprepared, she choked on a large mouthful of water.
Before she went down, she saw Shen Wensi running over quickly, almost catching her hand.
They missed each other. Jiang Huaiyi took two seconds to open her eyes.
She found that the water in the pond was not very clean. In addition to the strange taste in her mouth, her vision was also very limited due to the darkness and turbidity.
Her feet were grabbed, and she was left with only her hands flailing wildly in the water.
She tried desperately to swim up, but the grip from below made her unable to move in the water.
In this early winter, the pond water was bone-chilling, like countless ice cubes just taken out of the refrigerator, densely rubbing against her skin in the coldest winter.
Her whole body quickly became stiff and unable to move. Her head was in a sharp pain, and her consciousness began to become a little blurry.
Suddenly, a beam of light shone down from the top of the pond. She looked down and finally saw her surroundings.
In the turbid pond water, there were countless large and small vertical, long, oval cocoons with unclear insides.
These things were wrapped in a layer of green water plants. The water plants of the large cocoons swayed with the flow of the water.
It was an indescribable eeriness. Jiang Huaiyi finally saw the owner of the hand that was grabbing her feet. It was a small boy with a greenish body.
His clothes were very old and torn, almost tightly entangled by water plants. He looked very disgusting.
The boy’s small face was lifeless. A pair of pale pupils stared at her as if they had a focal point.
The water plants on his body were the same as the water plants on the huge cocoons around him.
If Jiang Huaiyi’s guess was correct, the countless things floating up and down in the water were all corpses.
This one, for some reason, had drilled out of that thick cocoon.
The light above quickly found her. Jiang Huaiyi desperately reached her hand up, trying to let Shen Wensi see her exact location.
Through the rippling water, Jiang Huaiyi saw her figure swaying above.
She felt like her lungs were about to burst. Her nasal cavity was also filled with water, which made her want to cough and choke.
The force on her feet didn’t loosen at all. Finally, she couldn’t hold on anymore and choked twice.
The bubbling water bubbles quickly floated upward in her vision.
Before she suffocated, she vaguely saw a person coming down from above, struggling to get to her.
Jiang Huaiyi’s consciousness drifted, and she fainted completely.
When she regained consciousness, she felt a burning sensation in her nose. She could feel the discomfort of choking on water every time she breathed.
Her entire nasal cavity felt like it was being burned. Jiang Huaiyi coughed twice and slowly opened her eyes.
The surroundings were pitch black. There was a flickering fire in her side vision.
Her vision was blurry. She wanted to prop herself up, but she felt weak all over and had no strength to move.
She could only lie on the ground and observe her surroundings. As time passed, she finally saw what was around her.
Shen Wensi was sitting by a fire not far away. The firewood was burning and crackling. Shen Wensi’s long hair was obediently draped over her shoulders. She was sitting by the fire, and their two bags were on the ground.
They seemed to be at the end of a low, long passage. There was a large circular open space here. She was leaning against the wall, her body ice-cold.
She could only feel some warmth from the side where the firewood was burning.
Jiang Huaiyi was shivering from the cold. She let out a light cough. Shen Wensi, who was sitting by the fire, turned her head to look at her. She moved over.
She sat next to her and asked, “You’re awake.”
Jiang Huaiyi opened her mouth and said with some difficulty, “Where are we?”
Shen Wensi didn’t answer right away. Instead, she helped her up and moved closer to the fire.
Jiang Huaiyi felt that her body was still wet. Her clothes were sticky and clung to her body. She felt that the heat on her body was being continuously sucked away.
Her body even started to shiver uncontrollably.
There was a rack next to them. It didn’t look very sturdy, as if it was set up temporarily.
Shen Wensi gestured for her to take off her clothes and dry them: “Your body temperature is dropping quickly. Take off your clothes and warm them up.”
Jiang Huaiyi nodded and fumbled to take off her jacket. The fire in front of them was burning brightly. After she took off her jacket and the clothes inside.
She was only left with a thin inner garment. She immediately felt the warmth of the fire in front of her.
Jiang Huaiyi sniffled and heard Shen Wensi’s clear voice faintly echoing in this empty space.
She hadn’t recovered just now and didn’t feel anything, but now her voice sounded very ethereal: “We seem to have been sucked into the air-raid shelter, but the space here is very large. We’ll have to see later if we can get out.”
Jiang Huaiyi looked at her soft hair and couldn’t help but ask, “Daoist Shen, did you jump into the water to save me? Forgive my rudeness, but why aren’t your clothes wet at all?”
Shen Wensi: “I’ve just dried them by the fire.”
Jiang Huaiyi looked at her unwrinkled clothes with suspicion, but soon she was unable to think anymore.
Her body unconsciously felt a little hot, and then a wave of coldness rushed up.
Between the hot and cold sensations, she saw Shen Wensi’s lips open and close, but her head was dizzy, and she couldn’t hear what the other person was saying at all.
The beautiful face in front of her also had multiple images. Her body was sore. Jiang Huaiyi’s body was telling her that she, who hadn’t been sick for ten thousand years, seemed to have a fever.
She tried to support her body with her hands so that she wouldn’t fall. She clenched her palms and gritted her teeth to hold on.
She didn’t know if it was her illusion, but the fire in front of her seemed to have been blown by a gust of cold wind. Jiang Huaiyi rubbed her eyes and continued to watch.
The visible range of the air-raid shelter was very small. Shen Wensi’s flashlight had gotten wet and broken when they came down. The only source of light in the cave now was this fire.
The fire was getting smaller. A gust of cold wind blew from an unknown direction. The fire in front of her swayed and was about to go out.
Jiang Huaiyi’s heart tightened. The next second, the person next to her threw a large pile of dry branches into it, and the fire instantly started burning again.
Jiang Huaiyi let out a sigh of relief. The feeling of exhaustion on her body became more and more obvious.
Shen Wensi’s voice seemed to come from the clouds: “Are you okay?”
Jiang Huaiyi opened her mouth, but she couldn’t say anything. Her frail wrist could no longer support the weight of her body. Her head was dizzy, and the world was spinning. She felt very cold. Her hand loosened, and she fell into a warm embrace.
