Chapter 31: It’s Not a Silent Hint, But a Naked Seduction…
Shi Li listened, a look of suspicion in her eyes.
Could it really be as serious as Zhu Yunqi said?
Without warning, she met that pair of gray, deep eyes.
Zhu Yunqi was looking at her calmly. But why did she feel like she could see emotions struggling to burst out but being tightly suppressed in the bottomless lake of those eyes? The surface of the lake was calm, but a surging tide had already risen in its depths.
Zhu Yunqi had her back to the streetlights. In the dim, ambiguous light, she looked like a devilish enchantress.
Shi Li abruptly moved her eyes away.
Even though she felt Zhu Yunqi’s conclusion was questionable, she knew she couldn’t ignore her client’s opinion.
“I understand. I didn’t think it through.”
As for the surprise she promised Wen Yue, she would have to come up with something else on the spot.
It was understandable that Zhu Yunqi was upset. Her photos had ruined her beautiful night. She had worried that something had happened to her and had driven all the way here, only to find out that she had just sent them to the wrong person. Where else in the entire Federation could you find a second client this responsible and caring?
When she went downstairs to meet Zhu Yunqi, Shi Li thought it was only right for Zhu Yunqi to be angry and throw a fit.
But Zhu Yunqi suppressed her emotions and didn’t say a single word of blame.
“I’m really sorry about tonight. I made you come all this way for nothing. I promise this will never happen again.”
Before sending any message next time, she would absolutely, absolutely make sure she checked the recipient.
This time, Zhu Yunqi was easygoing. What if it was someone who wasn’t so easygoing next time? Wouldn’t she be humiliated?
“No need to apologize. I was in the neighborhood anyway, so it was on my way. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
Zhu Yunqi’s tone was flat, with no discernible emotion.
But her heart was already in a complete mess.
Shi Li’s light brain kept vibrating. Wen Yue was calling again.
There was an additional message attached: “Baby, if you don’t answer the phone, you’re confirming you’re lying to me, right?”
Zhu Yunqi was still there. Shi Li didn’t know whether to answer the call or end her conversation with Zhu Yunqi first.
From Shi Li’s expression, Zhu Yunqi already guessed who was calling.
She made a pushing motion with her right hand and then nodded, signaling for Shi Li to answer the call first.
Shi Li answered, and Wen Yue’s almost roaring voice came through. “You finally answered! Do you know how worried I was?”
Shi Li said softly, “I’m sorry, Yueyue. I was… in the shower and forgot. Can I give it to you tomorrow?”
“You’re always on time. I thought something happened to you—why aren’t you at home?”
It was a video call.
Shi Li said, “I just went downstairs to throw out the trash. I’m going back up now.”
Wen Yue finally let her guard down. “I’m glad you’re okay. Don’t do that again. Baby, do you know that I only have you? You can’t ever leave me. I will find a way to cancel the engagement with Zhu Yunqi. I’ll only marry you.”
“I know, you love me, Yueyue. I was just tired today and accidentally forgot. Don’t be mad at me.” Her voice was soft and sweet, a clear sign of weakness.
In the video, Wen Yue was lying on her bed. The sapphire necklace on her chest was sparkling. Her eyes held a look that was almost obsessive as she picked up the necklace around her neck. “Baby, I’m not mad at you. See? This is the necklace you gave me for our third anniversary. I’ve been wearing it and have never taken it off.”
“Baby, it’s cold outside at night. Go home quickly. Baby, I love you so much, do you love me?”
Shi Li paused for a moment, then smiled and said, “Yueyue, of course I love you.”
Wen Yue was satisfied. Her temper flared up and subsided quickly. She blew a kiss to Shi Li and ended the call.
Shi Li turned to face Zhu Yunqi and gave a casual explanation: “I was originally going to send it to Wen Yue… Wen Yue couldn’t find me and was very worried.”
“Mmm.”
Zhu Yunqi just hummed in response.
Worried? From nine o’clock, half an hour had passed. If she was worried, why didn’t she come and check on her in person? If all else failed, she could have called the police.
But Wen Yue did nothing. She was just worried in her bedroom.
The same thought that had crossed her mind before resurfaced: How could Shi Li fall in love with Wen Yue?
If the call wasn’t on speaker, the sound would be transmitted directly to the eardrum and wouldn’t be heard by others. So Zhu Yunqi didn’t hear what Wen Yue said. She only heard Shi Li’s gentle apology, her effortless lie, and the seemingly affectionate “I love you.”
She was very curious about whether Shi Li still loved Wen Yue. If she did, how could she lie so naturally?
Shi Li was clearly not throwing out the trash; she was with her.
Zhu Yunqi felt a strange sense of satisfaction brewing inside her. She instantly became stiff. Could she really have a damn NTR complex, as Lan Yang had said?
Otherwise, she couldn’t explain why she felt a sense of satisfaction watching Shi Li lie to Wen Yue.
But just a few minutes ago, she was feeling all kinds of uncomfortable because Shi Li was going to send sexy photos to Wen Yue.
She seemed to be a contradictory mess, feeling happy one moment and annoyed the next while watching others fall in love.
She was going crazy.
Zhu Yunqi realized that she really needed to find some time to sort through her jumbled emotions.
She couldn’t stay here any longer.
Just as she was about to turn away, her gaze swept across Shi Li’s neck.
Zhu Yunqi saw a choker that Shi Li had forgotten to take off hidden beneath her thick, long hair. The silver pendant on the choker flashed under the streetlights.
As if possessed, she took a step forward, shortening the distance of over a meter to just thirty centimeters.
She used her finger to part Shi Li’s hair and pinched the Cupid’s arrow between her fingertips.
As her finger moved, a small patch of snow-white skin was revealed. The extreme black of the leather choker and the extreme white of her skin created a particularly strong visual contrast.
The Cupid’s arrow had been worn for a long time and had taken on Shi Li’s body temperature, feeling heavy on her fingertip.
Zhu Yunqi saw even more clearly than in the photo: Bite here.
It wasn’t a silent hint but a naked seduction…
Shi Li didn’t back away.
She tilted her head back slightly, her clear, watery eyes staring blankly at the stunningly perfect face in front of her. Her hand unconsciously clenched the hem of her clothes.
Her mind was in a mess. Didn’t Zhu Yunqi dislike her crossing the line with anyone other than Wen Yue? She had frowned in annoyance when Shi Li fell into her arms, but now they were so close, and it was Zhu Yunqi who had moved closer.
The Alpha’s fingertips were only three inches from her scent gland. Just a little further, and she could touch that sensitive, soft skin…
For a moment, they seemed to feel each other’s breath.
Zhu Yunqi heard that Shi Li’s heart was beating very, very fast.
Her light brain on her wrist vibrated.
Zhu Yunqi came to her senses. She pulled her hand back as if she had been electrocuted and looked away. Shi Li’s hair fell, once again covering the faint reflection.
Zhu Yunqi didn’t dare to look at Shi Li.
She had crossed the line. She had actually touched Shi Li’s choker with her hand. But why hadn’t Shi Li dodged? Wasn’t she supposed to be resistant to an Alpha’s closeness?
And why did she always want to get closer to Shi Li? She had even wanted to part her hair and bite her scent gland, just as the choker instructed.
Lan Yang said she liked Shi Li. Zhu Yunqi knew she didn’t like Shi Li. She didn’t have any intention of marrying her. But she finally confirmed at this moment that she had developed a special feeling for Shi Li. That emotion was similar to possession, like how she used to long to own a mech she particularly liked when she was a child. It was also similar to desire, like her eagerness to become the Federation’s best mech operator when she signed up for the military academy without hesitation.
She couldn’t say what kind of feeling it was. But she also knew that it wasn’t a feeling that could be vaguely explained away by a client-contractor relationship.
After all, no normal client would want to part their contractor’s hair and bite their scent gland.
Zhu Yunqi came up with a clumsy excuse: “I’m sorry, I thought that was a bug.”
The excuse sounded pathetic even to her.
Fortunately, Shi Li was kind enough not to expose her lie.
“I’ll delete the photos.”
Shi Li lowered her head, looking at her toes. “Thank you. I’m sorry for the trouble.”
“You should go home. I’m leaving soon, too.”
The light brain on her wrist kept vibrating. Zhu Yunqi glanced at it and saw that Lan Yang, who had been abandoned at the bar, was angrily protesting her sudden departure without a word.
Shi Li said, “You go first. I’ll go up after I see you leave.”
She should have invited Zhu Yunqi to come up and sit for a while. Although they were both women, it was too late, so she didn’t say anything.
Seeing this, Zhu Yunqi didn’t insist. She started her car and went back to pick up Lan Yang.
