After Setting Me Up With My Ex, The Aloof Alpha Regrets It - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: Bite Here.
After work, Shi Li accepted Wen Yue’s video call.
In the video, Wen Yue’s background was a stark white, making it look like she was in a medical pod at the Combat Department.
Wen Yue’s anxious expression instantly disappeared when she saw her girlfriend’s face.
“Baby, I’m in a medical pod, and there’s no one here. I have to work overtime later, so I can only talk to you for a little while.”
Shi Li was walking home from the Star Corporation headquarters. She lived close to the company, just a few minutes’ walk away.
Wen Yue said, “Baby, are you not feeling well again? You don’t look good.”
“Just tired from work,” Shi Li said, looking for an excuse.
In reality, she had been struggling with her relationship with Zhu Yunqi all afternoon. Zhu Yunqi’s cold voice, her subconscious frown, kept flashing in her mind, replaying over and over, and bringing her mood down.
Shi Li also searched for ways to stop overthinking and self-destructing, and after reading about them, she felt even more self-destructive.
“Yueyue, you’ve been so clingy lately,” Shi Li said what she was really thinking.
For the past two days, especially after the dinner with Zhu Yunqi and Wen Yue’s families, Wen Yue seemed to want to install a camera on her, constantly monitoring her every move.
Shi Li was very unaccustomed to this. She and Wen Yue had been together for so long, and they had always given each other plenty of personal space.
“Because I love you, baby. I want to be with you every day when I open my eyes,” Wen Yue said, looking very wronged. She pouted and said flirtatiously, “Are you getting annoyed with me? Have you fallen for someone else, and that’s why you feel annoyed?”
“No,” Shi Li denied. “Yueyue, how could I be annoyed with you?”
“But I feel like you don’t love me as much as you used to,” Wen Yue said, frowning and sighing. “I feel like a stray dog trying to get your attention by constantly showing up.”
Shi Li pointed out the problem with her metaphor bluntly: “You’re not a stray dog. Yueyue, you’re allergic to dog hair.”
She had once wanted to get a pet dog for companionship. But Wen Yue said she was allergic to dog hair and didn’t like dogs. Shi Li also thought her financial situation was indeed limited, so she gave up the idea.
Hearing this, Wen Yue was visibly stunned.
The light in her eyes slowly dimmed.
“Baby, why would you say that…”
It was just a metaphor. She just wanted to explain the reason for her frequent calls to Shi Li. But Shi Li didn’t seem to notice her anxiety and her fear of losing her. Instead, she was seriously analyzing the metaphor like a low-EQ person who didn’t understand romance.
She wanted to describe the romance of a mist to Shi Li, but Shi Li was analyzing the tiny particles in the mist that were harmful to the human body.
The Shi Li from before wouldn’t have been like this. She would have understood her emotions and enveloped her in gentle words, making her feel completely at ease.
Shi Li was also stunned.
She hadn’t expected to blurt out such hurtful words.
“I’m sorry, Yueyue. I’m just so tired from work today, and I’m not thinking straight. Please don’t take it to heart. I didn’t mean it.” She decided to give her the “surprise” she had prepared early. “How about a surprise tonight as compensation? Check your light brain messages at 9 o’clock.”
Wen Yue said sadly, “Okay, I’ll be sure to check on time. Don’t forget to send it to me.”
“Baby, I only have you.”
She only had Shi Li left. When she said she wanted to postpone the engagement at the dinner table, without any thought of the consequences, she had turned herself into an arrow that, once shot, would not turn back, and was only aimed in Shi Li’s direction.
She had given up Zhu Yunqi for Shi Li. Now, she absolutely could not lose Shi Li… she didn’t want to become destitute…
Shi Li ended the call as she reached her apartment building.
A flash of understanding and coldness appeared in her eyes.
She knew Wen Yue so well. The phrase “I only have you” made her instantly understand Wen Yue’s thoughts and feelings.
She also instantly understood why Wen Yue had been keeping such a close eye on her for the past two days.
Because Wen Yue had no backup plan. Between herself and Zhu Yunqi, Wen Yue had to hold on to one of them. The fact that Wen Yue was so anxious to hold on to her showed that she was ready to give up on Zhu Yunqi.
It was no longer just empty words, but a genuine decision.
Wen Yue’s desperate need to hold on to her wasn’t necessarily because she loved her so much, but more likely out of a desire not to leave empty-handed.
No one likes to go home empty-handed.
Wen Yue must now believe that she had made a great sacrifice by giving up such a high-quality marriage prospect for Shi Li. She should be eternally grateful.
But she hadn’t given Wen Yue enough emotional support just now, which was why Wen Yue was disappointed.
Having seen through the cause and effect, Shi Li didn’t feel sad or happy.
Wasn’t this the result she wanted?
It was also what Zhu Yunqi wanted to see most.
Things were moving in a good direction, step by step.
But she wondered if Wen Yue would go crazy if she ever found out about the contract between her and Zhu Yunqi.
Among the three of them, only Wen Yue was not in on it.
She was using Wen Yue, deceiving Wen Yue… putting her most hated behaviors into practice on the person she once loved the most.
Wen Yue, you’ll hate me, won’t you?
But Wen Yue, if you hadn’t tried to have your cake and eat it too from the start…
Before entering the building, Shi Li looked up at the setting sun.
Purplish-red clouds were spread across the sunset. The upper part was bright, and the edges had a clear Tyndall effect, as if Cupid had accidentally shot a translucent arrow into the clouds.
And the clouds that were not touched by the light were black and would continue to be black.
Until the night came.
When she got home, the fresh food made by the mechanical arm was in the heated cabinet.
Shi Li finished eating, put the dishes into the automatic dishwasher, and mopped the floor. Then she moved a few boxes from the shoe cabinet by the door, opened them with a small knife, and took out a few pieces of clothing one by one.
A bunny suit with fluffy ears and a tail; a purple little devil slip dress with two palm-sized wings attached to the lower back; a big red Christmas dress with a ring of soft white fur and two red ribbons on the chest…
When she was in the hospital, she had been thinking about how to win Wen Yue’s heart after being discharged.
She had browsed the StarNet for a long time and finally ordered these clothes. Bloggers in the relationship community said that when you’ve been together for a long time and know each other very well, you should do something you’ve never done before, something the other person couldn’t possibly have guessed you would do, to add a little novelty. The “provocative” bloggers taught her “one move to win your girlfriend over.”
Shi Li didn’t like sex. But she had to admit that sex was sometimes a very useful weapon.
And she had never used it before.
She had originally planned to wait until their 2,500-day anniversary to wear it, but to appease Wen Yue today, she decided to wear it early.
Shi Li held the clothes up to her body to check the size and then went into the bathroom to take a shower.
After her shower, following the pictures provided by the seller, Shi Li put on the little devil slip dress.
The dress was uncomfortable, hugging her body tightly, but it also outlined Shi Li’s most seductive curves. The dress was so short that it only covered her butt and the tops of her thighs, revealing her fair and straight legs. The chest was designed to be very flattering, but in contrast to the short hemline, the halter neck was much more conservative, reaching just below her collarbone, only showing a hint of her cleavage from the front.
Shi Li put on the black leather choker that came with it. A small silver heart was attached to the middle of the choker. On the side, there was also a small silver Cupid’s arrow pointing to the back of the Omega’s neck, with a line of small text engraved on it: Bite here.
However, moving around in this outfit was difficult. Shi Li forced herself into a few poses, took a few pictures, and then quickly took the dress off.
She was breathing heavily.
The dress was so incredibly designed that it was hurting her ribs.
Then she changed into the next one.
…
By the time she had finished taking pictures in all the outfits, it was almost nine o’clock. Shi Li browsed through the photos she had just taken, her face flushed to her ears. It was a little hard to look at. She had never thought she would ever wear these kinds of clothes and take pictures for someone else.
She had to give Wen Yue a little novelty.
Shi Li changed into comfortable pajamas and lay on her bed, selecting photos. The little plant on her bedside table seemed to have grown a little taller since she left this morning. From a distance, it looked like a patch of green fluff.
Thinking about the growth record post she had deleted, Shi Li’s mood, which she had just managed to lift, sank again.
She couldn’t help but remember what Lan Yang had said about her vacation ending in a month and her having to go back to the Black Star Belt.
What about Zhu Yunqi? Would Zhu Yunqi also have to go back after a month? Zhu Yunqi had said that she was on vacation, which was why she had so much free time.
Shi Li didn’t know what was wrong with her. When she thought of Zhu Yunqi, her emotions would be exceptionally full and intense.
She opened her contacts, found Zhu Yunqi, and clicked on her community post history. She found that Zhu Yunqi’s page was empty; she had never posted a single word.
She should do something productive and see if there were any single Omegas suitable for Lan Yang. Not only did Lan Yang have to like them, but the other person also had to like Lan Yang’s type and want to be in a relationship right now.
Shi Li belatedly realized that being a matchmaker was quite difficult. She had to consider both parties’ preferences and feelings.
After a thorough search of the people she knew, Shi Li remembered that a junior from her university seemed to be looking for a partner recently. She was quite close to the junior, who had interned in her group before and was now working at another car company.
She checked the time. It was almost nine o’clock, which was a little late. She would just ask her tomorrow at work. Dealing with personal matters during work hours was a great feeling.
Shi Li switched to the chat page and sent the photos right on time.
The tutorial said that after sending beautiful photos, you should not wait for a reply, even if the other person sends many messages. You should pretend you don’t see them. Leave them hanging to build anticipation and keep them guessing. Then, reply at the right time.
Shi Li strictly followed the tutorial. After sending the photos, she went to review her professional knowledge of mechs. She still had her university textbooks.
To avoid being disturbed by Wen Yue’s messages and to “leave her hanging” peacefully, Shi Li turned off her light brain message notifications.
She seriously read a dozen pages to refresh her memory. About half an hour passed.
Half an hour should be enough.
Shi Li opened her light brain messages. As expected, Wen Yue had sent her dozens of messages and called her, sounding extremely anxious.
Unexpectedly, below Wen Yue’s messages were unread messages from Zhu Yunqi. There were several of them, too.
Zhu Yunqi: ? (21:05)
Zhu Yunqi: Shi Li, were you kidnapped? (21:10)
Zhu Yunqi: Who are you? I warn you not to hurt her. (21:12)
Zhu Yunqi: My apologies. You’ve threatened the wrong person. I’m just a normal friend she recently met. (21:20)
Zhu Yunqi: How much money do you want? (21:23)
Zhu Yunqi: I’m downstairs right now. You can’t get away. (21:29)
Why would Zhu Yunqi send her a message?
Shi Li opened her chat with Zhu Yunqi.
With just one look, she almost fainted on the spot.
When she sent the photos, she had forgotten to switch chat windows and had sent the photos to Zhu Yunqi!
