Chapter 17: A Girlfriend’s Priority Must Be Before the Client’s.
Five minutes ago.
Siren followed a Beta and an Omega into the restaurant. The Omega’s eyes were like the most brilliant black diamonds, and her every smile and gesture made Siren unable to look away.
Sure enough, the Omegas in Z3291 were all very beautiful.
Siren quickly confirmed that the Omega and Beta were just colleagues. And the beautiful Omega hadn’t been marked, so she was very likely single.
She found an empty seat at the same restaurant. Halfway through her meal, the Beta at the table suddenly took a call and then left in a hurry, leaving the Omega to eat slowly by herself.
Siren took out her makeup mirror, pulled down her V-neck, smoothed her seaweed-like blue hair, and with a captivating sway of her hips, she sat down in front of the Omega.
“Hi~”
Shi Li watched the charming and sexy Alpha in front of her with caution, tightening her grip on her knife and fork. The Alpha had a perfect figure, with a curvy chest and hips, a slender waist, and a neckline that revealed a snow-white chest that was hard to look away from. Her shoulder-area had two holes in the clothes, showing off her rounded shoulders. Her thighs were full, but her calves were very slender. She was sexy and strong, the type of body that won the genetic lottery.
“My name is Lan Yang, 27 years old, S-class Alpha. My pheromone is sandalwood. I’m currently in the Black Star Belt, repairing mechs for the Federation military. I’m single, with an average monthly income of 100,000 star coins. Interested in getting to know me?” As she spoke, her eyes with light blue eyeshadow winked, and she gave a flirtatious look.
Shi Li held up her fork defensively. “I have a girlfriend.”
“But you haven’t been marked. I can feel it.” The Alpha, Lan Yang, didn’t seem to mind at all.
Shi Li: “…I’m sorry, my girlfriend is a Beta. This seat is taken. Please leave.”
Lan Yang acted as if she hadn’t heard and continued to smile. “It was love at first sight for me, Miss Omega. Forget your Beta girlfriend. What’s the difference between being with a Beta and being a widow? I guarantee I’ll treat you better than she does.”
The next second, her head was slapped hard from behind.
Zhu Yunqi grabbed Siren and pulled her from her seat. “Lan Yang, what are you doing now?” Siren was Lan Yang’s codename in the Silver Serpent Legion.
Siren looked innocent. “I’m pursuing my own happiness, Captain Zhu. Let go, let go. Don’t mess up my hair. I spent a long time curling it before I left.” She couldn’t believe Zhu Yunqi, her captain, was still bossing her around even though they weren’t in the Black Star Belt.
Zhu Yunqi first said, “I’m sorry,” to Shi Li. Then she dragged Siren to the side and said in a sharp voice, “I don’t care who you pursue, but not her.”
“Why? Do you know each other?” Siren was confused. The next moment, she widened her eyes, her gaze darting back and forth between Zhu Yunqi and Shi Li. “Haha, Captain Zhu, haha, don’t tell me I’ve messed with your Omega. She just said her girlfriend is a Beta…” Siren gave a dry laugh. It was the first time she had seen Zhu Yunqi get angry for someone else. That ice-cold face, which always looked slightly dead, actually had such a complex range of expressions. Her gray eyes were rarely burning with anger.
Siren’s first reaction was: this Omega’s relationship with Zhu Yunqi is not simple.
“She’s not my Omega.” The relationship was complicated and also involved a Wen Yue, so Zhu Yunqi didn’t want to explain all of it to her teammate. Given Siren’s gossipy nature, she would definitely pester her until she got to the bottom of it. “Anyway, stay away from her. She has a girlfriend.”
Zhu Yunqi pulled up the V-neck on Siren’s chest. She frowned. “You go to another restaurant. I’ll be there after I talk to her.”
Zhu Yunqi returned to Shi Li. “I’m sorry, that’s my colleague. Did she scare you?”
Shi Li silently released the knife and fork she had instinctively grabbed to use as a weapon. She was still instinctively afraid of Alphas. Only Zhu Yunqi was an exception. In front of Zhu Yunqi, she not only didn’t feel scared or nervous but also unconsciously relaxed, as if she had found some kind of protection. Since she was Zhu Yunqi’s colleague, she should be lenient.
Shi Li shook her head. “It’s fine. She’s just, well, a little more uninhibited and passionate.”
“Don’t mind her. I’ll have a word with her later. Are you eating alone? Are you going back to the company this afternoon?” Shi Li didn’t feel annoyed by Zhu Yunqi’s questions. She answered each one. “I was with my colleague, the Beta I was with earlier today, but her child suddenly got sick, so she went home.” “Yes, I’m going back. I have to write a report and review a few designs.”
“Be careful when you go out these days.” Zhu Yunqi remembered the mission Cheng Yin had assigned her. Z3291 had already received the alert, but to avoid public panic and because the purpose of the interstellar pirates was unknown, they had not issued a public warning, only quietly increasing urban security.
“Do you have any self-defense tools?”
Shi Li didn’t understand why Zhu Yunqi was suddenly giving her such a warning. But Zhu Yunqi wouldn’t harm her. So she answered, “Does pepper spray count? And a mini stun gun.”
Zhu Yunqi heard this and felt it wasn’t enough. Pepper spray and a mini stun gun were fine for defending against ordinary citizens. They would be useless against ruthless interstellar pirates. To be on the safe side, she needed to give her a better weapon.
Zhu Yunqi glanced and saw a new, three-inch-long mini particle handgun tucked into Siren’s waistband. She strode over and casually took it. “I’ll get you a new one later.”
Siren: ???
Zhu Yunqi returned and handed the handgun to Shi Li. “Don’t worry, it’s not a restricted weapon. You probably won’t need to use it under normal circumstances, but it’s better to have it just in case.”
Shi Li took the gun and looked at it curiously. Then she had a thought. “Do you repairmen also carry guns with you?” Has the environment in the Black Star Belt gotten so bad that even repairmen have to carry guns?
Zhu Yunqi didn’t react for a moment. After two seconds, she realized that they couldn’t casually reveal their work. “Repairman” must have been a job that Siren had made up on the spot, and Shi Li had believed it.
She went along with Siren’s “repairman” story. “Sometimes, yes. I have something to do this afternoon. You take your time. If you feel unwell, remember to contact a doctor, and contact me too—” As she spoke, Zhu Yunqi suddenly realized she had said the wrong thing. She had just warned Siren that Shi Li had a girlfriend.
A girlfriend’s priority must be before the client’s. So she changed her words: “Contact Wen Yue.”
Shi Li replied softly, “Okay.”
To compensate for the scare Siren had given Shi Li, Zhu Yunqi paid for Shi Li’s table before she left. She saw that the menu had Basque cheesecake, which Shi Li liked, and since Shi Li hadn’t ordered dessert, she added one for her.
After leaving the restaurant, Zhu Yunqi took Siren to another restaurant nearby for dinner. Until the food arrived, the usually talkative Siren didn’t say a single word.
“Siren?”
Siren snapped out of her daze. She looked at Zhu Yunqi and said with a pained expression, “Captain, sometimes you don’t need to use such high morals to constrain yourself. If a person is shameless, they only have one regret, and that is that it feels so good.”
Siren recalled the scene she had just witnessed in the restaurant. Her captain, who was usually decisive, spoke little, and had an ice-cold face, was talking to that delicate Omega with a gentleness and patience usually reserved for a child. Throughout the conversation, the captain was slightly leaning in, her gaze focused and gentle, while the Omega never left her seat, simply listening with her head up, as if she was used to someone in a superior position kneeling for her.
That new particle handgun cost her three full months’ salary—300,000 star coins! The captain just gave it away like that. The wretched capitalist. Was she supposed to believe that there was nothing between them, or was she supposed to believe that she, Siren, was the Federation’s number one Alpha?
And from the looks of it, this was most likely a story of unrequited love. The captain must have been constrained by some damn sense of morality, feeling too awkward to be a mistress and take the person for herself, so she could only be a silent guardian.
But now she had arrived. Besides her beauty, Siren’s shamelessness was also first-rate. She could get the Omega for the captain in a matter of minutes.
Zhu Yunqi could tell she was thinking twisted thoughts. She cleared her throat to clarify. “She’s my contractor, executing a very important mission for me. Don’t use your sub-zero morals to imagine me.”
“Colonel Cheng has sent the latest investigation report. This group of interstellar pirates is a squad of about ten people and they are armed.”
“Get to work. This afternoon, you’ll meet with the combat department and get your weapons. The investigation will begin tomorrow.”
