After Secretly Marrying the Top Celebrity, I Fell in Love - Chapter 7
The audition location was set up at a certain film studio.
Last night, Bai Yiyan had trouble sleeping. This morning, she woke up before her alarm clock went off. The consequence of her insomnia was a faint, barely noticeable dark circle under her lower eyelids. To cover the dark circles, Bai Yiyan put on some makeup.
Normally, Bai Yiyan was accustomed to wearing casual T-shirts paired with jeans, sneakers, or sports shoes. There wasn’t a single dress to be found in her closet. In her shoe cabinet, there were no high heels either.
Bo Yiyan turned her closet upside down and finally found an outfit she was somewhat satisfied with.
A white T-shirt paired with light blue denim overalls, and a pair of white sneakers.
Her long hair was tied up in a high ponytail at the back of her head, revealing a fair and smooth forehead. She didn’t wear any jewelry on her body, except for a pair of small gold bead earrings.
Down at the alley entrance, a silver commercial van arrived ten minutes earlier than the scheduled time.
Inside the comfortable and quiet cabin, Ye Manqing, wearing sunglasses, was seated upright in the back row, holding a steaming cup of cappuccino, black with no sugar or milk.
The woman was dressed in an elegant black halter-neck long dress, with the hem reaching her ankles, and a black suit jacket draped over her shoulders.
“Teacher Ye, here’s your sandwich,” the exhausted-looking assistant next to her handed over a sandwich.
“No, you eat it yourself,” Ye Manqing took a sip of her coffee, her gaze still fixed on the car window.
Qingqing retracted the hand holding the sandwich and looked down at the other sandwich in the paper bag, confused, “But Teacher Ye, I can’t eat two by myself.”
Ye Manqing answered with an unrelated question, “Did you buy the milk?”
Qingqing nodded repeatedly, “Yes, I did!”
Ye Manqing: “Give the milk and the sandwich to Xiao Bo later.”
Qingqing: “… Oh.”
Although Qingqing didn’t say anything, she couldn’t help but grumble inwardly.
Envy and jealousy! Teacher Ye is so good to this Xiao Bo!
Sure enough, just as Ye Manqing had expected, Bo Yiyan hadn’t eaten breakfast. Because time was tight and Bo Yiyan had spent quite some time on her makeup, she didn’t have time to prepare breakfast.
Seeing that it was time to leave, Bai Yiyan rushed downstairs without eating anything.
Opening the car door, Bai Yiyan bent down and entered the spacious cabin. Her eyes immediately met Ye Manqing’s gaze.
“Teacher Ye, good morning,” Bai Yiyan smiled and greeted her proactively.
Ye Manqing raised her hand, her fingers, like early spring bamboo twigs, lightly pinching the frame of her sunglasses. The moment the sunglasses were removed, a pair of slender, beautiful snow fox eyes were revealed.
“Good morning,” the woman’s eyes curved slightly, filled with a gentle ripple of light.
Diagonally opposite her, Qingqing happened to take in the whole scene. It was a very normal greeting, but Qingqing perceived something different in Teacher Ye’s eyes.
Qingqing had been with Ye Manqing for nearly ten years and knew her preferences and temperament very well. Although Teacher Ye was polite and courteous to everyone, showing no airs of a big star, genuine care was different from superficial politeness.
Could it be… Teacher Ye’s spring has finally arrived?!
Bai Yiyan sat properly in the back seat of the commercial van, side-by-side with Ye Manqing. She held a sandwich in one hand and a bottle of milk in the other.
The sandwiches from this bakery were famous, firstly because they were expensive, and secondly because the preparation and ingredients were very meticulous.
Because the bread at this shop was too expensive, Bai Yiyan had never eaten any of their bread, though she had delivered takeout from there several times, almost always to villa areas and some high-end residential complexes.
Bai Yiyan felt somewhat uneasy. After hesitating for a moment, she still tore open the wrapper of the sandwich and took a small bite.
“Is it good?” Ye Manqing’s soft voice suddenly came from beside her.
Bai Yiyan was stunned for a moment, turned her head, and instantly met a pair of light tea-colored pupils filled with a smile.
“It’s delicious,” Bai Yiyan nodded and answered softly.
Ye Manqing just “Mm-hmm’d” to show she was listening to Bai Yiyan.
The next second, Ye Manqing turned her head away and put her sunglasses back on. Bai Yiyan also turned her head back and continued eating her sandwich, her mind preoccupied with the audition.
Half an hour later, the group arrived at the film studio.
Ye Manqing and her assistant remained in the car and didn’t go inside. Bai Yiyan got out of the car and went directly to the lobby outside the waiting room.
Although Bai Yiyan arrived five minutes early, a female artist had already arrived before her: Xia Xinglu.
Xia Xinglu was making a mark among the post-2000s actresses, and her popularity was not to be underestimated; she was a bona fide traffic artist.
A drama she had a role in was currently airing this summer, where Xia Xinglu played the female second lead. With the drama’s popularity, Xia Xinglu had gained a large wave of new fans.
However, the other female artist auditioning was none other than Bai Youcen.
Xia Xinglu’s star power couldn’t compare to Bai Youcen’s, and her slightly immature acting skills were even less comparable. Therefore, Bai Youcen didn’t pay any attention to Xia Xinglu.
This role, Bai Youcen was determined to get!
However, what Bai Youcen never expected was to actually see Bai Yiyan at the studio!
“Xiao Bo? Is that really you?” In surprise, Bai Youcen quickly took off the sunglasses on her nose. “Why are you here too?”
“Teacher Bai, good morning,” Bai Yiyan faced Bai Youcen and said politely, “I’m here for the audition.”
Bai Youcen was so surprised that she almost lost control of her expression, staring at Bai Yiyan with wide eyes, and retorted, “You’re also here for the audition? This is the audition for the female second lead.”
In her tone, she deliberately emphasized the words “female second lead.”
“Yes,” Bai Yiyan nodded slightly, her face slightly flushed with embarrassment.
“…” Bai Youcen’s mouth twitched, and a feeling of being humiliated welled up in her heart. A small extra, and her own body double, at that.
Does she even qualify to compete for the female second lead?!
It’s simply ridiculous!
The order of auditions was determined by drawing lots. Xia Xinglu drew the first slot to go in, Bai Youcen was second, and Bai Yiyan was the last.
Xia Xinglu was visibly nervous; she was still frantically flipping through her script before going in, her palms clammy with cold sweat.
Diagonally opposite her, Bai Youcen glanced at Xia Xinglu with disdain, not taking this young girl seriously at all. Her only advantage was being a few years younger than herself, but she wouldn’t amount to anything.
Who was Bai Youcen? She was someone who could hold her own against Ye Manqing in a scene. Counting the entire entertainment industry, there were probably only a few people who could manage to act opposite Ye Manqing.
“Number one, Xia Xinglu.” Along with the sound of the door opening, the door of the waiting room was opened, followed by the staff member’s voice.
Xia Xinglu abruptly stood up from her seat, nervously swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and handed the script to her assistant nearby.
“Here!”
About a quarter of an hour later, the tightly shut waiting room door opened.
The assistant next to Xia Xinglu quickly went forward. As soon as she got close, before she even had a chance to ask about the result, Xia Xinglu suddenly burst into tears and threw herself into the female assistant’s arms.
“Teacher Xia, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” the assistant anxiously asked repeatedly.
“Wuwu… Wuwu… I’m fine,” Xia Xinglu said tearfully, “Let’s go.”
With a pair of red, tearful rabbit eyes, Xia Xinglu, looking pitiful and vulnerable with two streams of pearl-like tears hanging from the corners of her eyes, left first, accompanied by her assistant.
Having watched the whole thing, Bai Yiyan, who wasn’t originally so nervous, also started to feel inexplicably anxious and uneasy.
“Next!”
“Number two, Bai…” When the staff member’s gaze fell on Bai Youcen’s face, the previously drawn-out face immediately broke into a smile, and even the address changed.
“Teacher Bai!”
Outside the waiting room, Bo Yiyan forced herself to calm down and not be nervous. She flipped through the script in her hand, but couldn’t focus on a single word.
Getting up, Bai Yiyan went to the restroom next door, used the toilet, and then touched up her makeup in the mirror, patting some powder on both sides of her nose and touching up her lipstick.
When Bai Yiyan returned to the area outside the waiting room, she just happened to hear the staff member calling her name, with obvious impatience in their tone.
“Bai Yiyan! Is Bo Yiyan here or not!”
“Here!” Bai Yiyan raised her voice to answer and quickly stepped forward.
“Hurry up and go in,” the staff member urged with a displeased look.
Bai Yiyan nodded, “Mm-hmm,” and hurried forward, placing her hand on the doorknob. She took a deep breath, adjusting her anxious emotions.
She pulled open the waiting room door.
“…!” Bai Yiyan looked up and her eyes met a pair of light tea-colored pupils on the judging panel.
The woman had a pair of slender and exquisite snow fox eyes, the corners slightly upturned, and her eyes held a soft smile, looking directly and openly at Bai Yiyan.
Ye Manqing… Why was she on the judging panel?
