After Secretly Marrying the Top Celebrity, I Fell in Love - Chapter 3
Ye Manqing leaned against the headboard, a cascade of smooth, dark hair falling on either side of her chest. She narrowed her beautiful, slender eyes and gave Bai Yiyan a slight nod in acknowledgment.
Though her heart was filled with curiosity, Ye Manqing did not reveal any such emotion on her face.
“So you two know each other!” Lin Yu realized, a smile reaching her eyes. She then waved a hand towards Bai Yiyan.
“Don’t just stand at the door, come in quickly.”
Bai Yiyan couldn’t refuse, so she stepped into the hospital room and offered the box of green grapes to the customer with both hands.
“Please check the fruit,” Bai Yiyan said politely to Lin Yu, recalling the instruction from the fruit shop clerk. “If there are no issues, I’ll confirm your receipt.”
“No need to check, it’s just a few bunches of green grapes,” Lin Yu smiled, taking the box of green grapes from Bai Yiyan.
Turning around, Lin Yu carried the grapes to the bedside and set the cardboard box on the nightstand.
She bent down and quickly opened the box. She took a look and confirmed they were indeed authentic Nagano Shine Muscat grapes.
“You’ve worked hard delivering in this heat,” Lin Yu said with a gentle smile, taking a bunch of grapes and offering it to Bai Yiyan generously.
“Little sister, this bunch of grapes is for you.”
“Thank you! No need,” Bai Yiyan was briefly stunned, then quickly expressed her thanks after recovering.
“It’s just a bunch of grapes, why be so polite?” Lin Yu kept her hand extended, with no intention of retracting it. “Besides, you know our Teacher Ye.”
“Just think of it as a treat from Teacher Ye.” As she spoke, Lin Yu turned to look at Ye Manqing in the hospital bed and winked.
Ye Manqing understood immediately. Her gaze shifted to Bai Yiyan and she said, “Little Bai, these grapes are quite sweet, you should try them.”
“…” Bai Yiyan looked up, meeting Ye Manqing’s eyes. Since even Ye Manqing had spoken, it was difficult for her to decline further.
“Thank you, Teacher Ye, I’ll accept them then.”
Bai Yiyan extended both hands to take the bunch of grapes from Lin Yu and smiled as she said “Thank you.”
“I have more orders to deliver, so I’ll be going now.”
Lin Yu waved lightly and said, “Bye-bye~”
Only after Bai Yiyan’s figure had completely disappeared from the doorway did Lin Yu turn back to the bedside.
Ye Manqing, resting against a soft pillow, lightly raised her pale eyelids and spoke plainly to her friend, “Why were you suddenly so attentive to a stranger?”
“I heard you call her Little Bai just now. If I’m not mistaken, she’s your lifesaver, isn’t she?” Lin Yu stood in front of the nightstand, casually picking up one of the three remaining bunches of grapes, intending to go wash them.
Ye Manqing nodded slightly: “Yes, it’s her.”
“So, it’s only right for me to be nice to her, and it’s just a bunch of grapes anyway.” Lin Yu finished, then turned to look at Ye Manqing.
“Honestly, she is truly beautiful.”
Lin Yu usually moved in the circles of top-tier wealthy businessmen, so she had seen all sorts of beautiful women. But even in a delivery uniform, this ‘Little Bai’ couldn’t conceal her beauty.
And she wasn’t even wearing makeup!
When Lin Yu first saw Bai Yiyan, her momentary distraction was due to the girl’s stunning looks.
With Bai Yiyan wearing a mask, her eyes and eyebrows became the primary focus.
Her eye shape was the typical Rui Feng eye (a type of beautiful, slender eye with a long, upturned outer corner), and the outer corners were narrow and elongated. Her two long, dark eyebrows had a natural shape, demonstrating the elegance of a “distant mountain veil” (a classical Chinese term describing graceful, distant eyebrows).
Her eyelashes were thick and long, like two small brushes, further enhancing the beauty of her eyes.
Ye Manqing: “…”
Lin Yu: “She matches you quite well.”
Ye Manqing’s cheeks were slightly flushed, but she still didn’t say anything.
Lin Yu continued talking to herself, “She matches me quite well, too.”
Ye Manqing paused, then made a bold guess: “You want to pursue her?”
Lin Yu’s lips curved into a high smile, and she gave Ye Manqing a mysterious look.
“That’s a rather good suggestion.”
…
At nine in the evening, after delivering food for a full ten hours, Bai Yiyan finally brought herself to close the order-receiving app and rode her electric scooter back to the old city district.
Dragging her tired body, Bai Yiyan returned to her rental room.
It was a dilapidated one-room apartment. The walls were yellowing everywhere, and there was an unpleasant musty odor. The rent for this old, tiny place was relatively cheap.
There were leftovers and congee from lunch in the refrigerator; she just needed to heat the food to eat.
At this moment, Bai Yiyan was exhausted and hungry, and she almost fell asleep lying on the sofa. If not for the relentless waves of unbearable hunger, Bai Yiyan would have already been asleep.
Bai Yiyan forced herself up from the sofa, planning to eat dinner before sleeping.
The woman stretched luxuriously, her arms suddenly freezing in mid-air as she remembered something was left in the back storage box of her electric scooter.
A bunch of green grapes valued at over eight hundred yuan.
Bai Yiyan went downstairs, took the grapes out of the storage box, then carried them back upstairs and into her apartment.
The grapes were put into the refrigerator.
Bai Yiyan first took a shower, then had a simple dinner.
The weather was too hot, and Bai Yiyan had little appetite, only managing to drink half a bowl of congee. She suddenly thought of the grapes in the refrigerator and really wanted to taste them.
Bai Yiyan had never eaten such expensive grapes and felt a little reluctant. So, she used scissors to cut the grape stem in the middle, dividing the bunch into two halves.
Standing at the sink, Bai Yiyan meticulously washed half a bunch of grapes with clean water, then placed the washed grapes into a transparent glass bowl.
Bai Yiyan carried the glass bowl out of the kitchen and went straight back to the bedroom, placing the bowl of grapes on the nightstand.
Only the bedroom in the rental unit had air conditioning; the living room only had an old electric fan. To save on electricity, Bai Yiyan only turned on the bedroom A/C when she slept at night.
It was simply too hot that day; she couldn’t fall asleep, let alone sleep well, without the air conditioning.
Bai Yiyan sat on the edge of the bed, holding the transparent glass bowl, which contained round, jade-green grapes.
She was a little curious about what made these grapes so different that they could sell for such a high price!
Lowering her gaze, Bai Yiyan reached into the bowl and picked up one of the grapes, which was as clear as crystal. She examined it carefully under the light, then put the grape into her mouth and bit into it.
The flesh was firm, and the juice was clean and sweet. It was very juicy, with a slight burst of flavor. She couldn’t pinpoint exactly what made it different from other green grapes, but the texture was much better, and it was especially sweet.
Suddenly, Ye Manqing’s face popped into Bai Yiyan’s mind, along with the words the actress had spoken to her in the hospital room.
“Little Bai, these grapes are quite sweet, you should try them.”
“…” Bai Yiyan’s expression froze slightly. She put the remaining half-grape into her mouth, and her tongue was once again enveloped by the clean, delicious juice.
Picking up her phone, Bai Yiyan took a picture of the glass bowl, then tapped ‘Collect.’ The photo was saved to her ‘My Collections.’
…
In the night sky, a bright moon lightly draped a mysterious veil, its watery moonlight pouring down. It shone through the window into the hospital room.
“It’s late, I’ll head back now and visit you again tomorrow.” Lin Yu got up from the chair, picking up the designer bag placed on the nightstand as she spoke.
“Alright,” Ye Manqing closed the script in her hand and lifted her head to nod slightly at Lin Yu.
“Bye~” Lin Yu carried a Hermès Birkin bag on one arm and made a “bye-bye” gesture to her friend with the other hand.
As soon as she turned around, Ye Manqing immediately called out to her.
“Lin Yu!”
“…” Lin Yu paused, turning sideways to face Ye Manqing, a smile suddenly playing on her lips. “What’s wrong? You don’t want me to leave?”
Ye Manqing: “No.”
Lin Yu feigned a pampered pout: “Hmph~”
Ye Manqing: “Are you really planning to pursue her? I mean Little Bai.”
Lin Yu felt playful: “Of course! She fits my aesthetic perfectly.”
Ye Manqing: “If you’re only interested because of her face, I can introduce you to other actresses in the industry.”
Lin Yu looked at Ye Manqing in surprise and asked, “Are you jealous? Do you like her too?”
Ye Manqing’s eyes were as deep as an abyss. Her slender, fox-like eyes stared fixedly at Lin Yu, and she said flatly, “I don’t.”
Lin Yu: “I’m not sure I believe you.”
Ye Manqing leaned against the headboard, her expression suddenly turning cold, like a thousand-year-old snow mountain shrouded in bone-chilling frost.
“Don’t set your sights on her.” The woman’s voice abruptly dropped an octave.
The first thing Ye Manqing did after being discharged from the hospital was to personally visit Bai Yiyan to express her thanks, using the address provided by Director Zhang.
Since Ye Manqing didn’t have Bai Yiyan’s contact information and didn’t know when she finished work and came home, Ye Manqing had her driver park the car outside the alley entrance and waited inside the car.
She waited from early evening until ten at night. After a long three-hour wait, she finally saw the person she was waiting for.
Not even the paparazzi could have imagined that Ye Manqing would appear in such a place.
In the dilapidated residential area, due to the recent heavy rain, there were potholes of standing water everywhere on the ground. The iron of the streetlights was rusted to varying degrees, showing patchy discoloration.
“Little Bai!” Ye Manqing suddenly called out to Bai Yiyan, who was bending over to lock her electric scooter.
“…!” Bai Yiyan’s hands paused instantly. She straightened up and slowly turned to look towards the source of the voice.
Standing under the streetlight was a tall, graceful woman. She wore a black dress that blended into the night, and black stiletto heels.
A head of dark hair, gleaming with a healthy sheen, cascaded down. One strand, like flowing water, slipped over her right shoulder, its ends slightly curled into an elegant arc.
