- After Returning from a Faked Death, My Crazed, Rebellious Disciple Forced His Love Upon Me
- Chapter 15 - It Turns Out the Sovereign Likes Picking Up Trash
Although he knew they were very likely the same person, Ji Chen had no choice but to follow Yuan Yi. He could not let a cooked duck fly away; otherwise, his hard work all night would be for nothing.
Ji Chen followed Yuan Yi to Kui Mu’s house. When they knocked on the door, a drunken head peeked out. “Who is it?”
Ji Chen looked and saw that it was indeed that Brother Kui.
Although Kui Mu was still hungover, he was not even surprised to see Yuan Yi knocking at his door. Instead, he was shocked by Ji Chen’s appearance. “It is you?”
Yuan Yi was slightly stunned. “You two know each other?”
Kui Mu’s home was not very large; it was a typical ancient residential house. There was a main room and a courtyard, and the bedroom contained only a single bed. Just as Ji Chen had expected, there was no sex life to speak of.
At the round table, Kui Mu was treating the wound on Yuan Yi’s abdomen. During the treatment, Yuan Yi took the opportunity to tell Kui Mu about everything that had happened to him recently.
After hearing the story, Kui Mu sobered up considerably. He felt indignant on Yuan Yi’s behalf. “What kind of Demon Sovereign is that! You have followed him for so many years, serving him with absolute loyalty and diligence. Yet, over such a small matter, a matter intended for his own good, he actually wanted to kill you!”
Yuan Yi, however, spoke up for Guitong.
“I cannot really blame the Sovereign. It was my fault for not informing him in advance. I acted on my own authority and provoked his anger. I knew he hated the Immortal Path, but I did not realize he could hate it to such an extent.”
Kui Mu continued, “The Sovereign’s hatred for the Immortal Path is not exactly news. If others do not know about it, you certainly should. I reckon he was harmed by some great Immortal expert in the past, and it left him with a psychological shadow ever since.”
“Paranoid!” Kui Mu said, pointing a finger at his own temple. His meaning was clear: the Demon Sovereign was not right in the head.
Ji Chen listened to their conversation from the side. He did not interrupt, remaining as quiet as a doll. However, when he heard Kui Mu say that Guitong’s brain was not normal, he finally could not help but give Kui Mu a thumbs up in approval.
Kui Mu caught Ji Chen’s strange gesture and turned his eyes back to Yuan Yi. “This kid, how do you two know each other?”
Yuan Yi asked in return, “I was about to ask you the same thing.”
Kui Mu turned his head away sheepishly. “Sigh, this matter, it is better not to mention it.”
But the more Kui Mu did not want to speak, the more curious Yuan Yi became about his secretive attitude.
“What exactly happened? You did not do that to him, did you? This is the Demon Sovereign’s Consort!”
“What!” Kui Mu was shocked beyond measure upon hearing this. He pointed at Ji Chen. “Him? The Demon Sovereign’s Consort! Is the Sovereign blind?”
Ji Chen was dissatisfied with Kui Mu’s remark and finally interrupted. “Hey, do not be so shocked, okay? And since you think I am so beneath you, why did you say you wanted to let me give you a good time earlier?”
Yuan Yi knew Kui Mu’s old habits had flared up again, and his face instantly darkened. “You really did do that to him. You are dead meat now.”
“No, there is really nothing between us,” Kui Mu explained. “This kid is a thief when it comes to drinking. Originally, we made a bet on our drinking capacity. If he lost, only then would we have done that.”
“And the result?”
“The result, I lost. He walked away with all of my belongings.”
Upon hearing this, Yuan Yi laughed uncontrollably. He looked completely gloating, ignoring the dark lines of frustration on Kui Mu’s forehead.
Looking at this scene, Ji Chen knew these two were likely close friends who enjoyed each other’s misfortunes. By this point, Yuan Yi’s injuries had been completely healed by Kui Mu’s spiritual power. Ji Chen really had not expected that someone as muscular as Kui Mu would have a Wood Spiritual Root and be a healer. He wondered if this was what people called gap moe.
Yuan Yi stood up and moved his body. After feeling that nothing was wrong, he said to Kui Mu, “To thank you for saving my life tonight, I will compensate you for the things he took from you.”
“Now that is what I like to hear. As expected of the Right Protector, you are truly generous.” Kui Mu was not shy about accepting it and immediately beamed with joy. “Tell me, what was it?”
Kui Mu then listed the items he had lost. When he mentioned the Gilded Sword, Yuan Yi interrupted him without a second thought. “Wait, the Gilded Sword?”
“What about it? It is just the most ordinary Metal attribute spiritual sword. Can you not afford it?”
“It is not that.” Yuan Yi’s confused expression from the forest returned. His gaze fell on Ji Chen. “That golden light.”
Ji Chen feared he would be suspected, so he blurted out, “The Gilded Sword has been in the storage bag the whole time. I have not even taken it out, and besides, I do not know how to use it.”
“Are you not a sword cultivator? You do not know how to use a sword?” Kui Mu asked.
“But I do not have a Spiritual Root.”
“You can hold a sword even without a Spiritual Root; you just cannot release sword qi. Your clothes are clearly from the Wuji Sect. To enter the number one Immortal Sect in the world, which is also a sword sect, it does not make sense even if you have no Spiritual Root and do not know how to use a sword.”
Ji Chen found himself at a loss for words.
In the end, it was Yuan Yi who smoothed things over. “Brother Ji, we do not mean to look down on you.”
“I was overthinking. I originally thought it was you who used the Gilded Sword to save me. Thinking about it now, it seems completely impossible.”
“Right,” Ji Chen said. Although he appeared calm on the surface, he was sweating internally. He maintained a composed front. “I am just a weak little chicken who knows nothing.”
Kui Mu added a perfectly timed jab: “I only just realized that it turns out the Sovereign likes picking up trash.”
Ji Chen: “I thank you.”
Just as the atmosphere was about to turn awkward, it was broken by a low, rumbling sound. Both men turned their eyes toward Ji Chen, from whom the strange noise had originated. The sound came from Ji Chen’s stomach.
Ji Chen rubbed his belly. “I have not achieved Inedia. I have not eaten for several days. I am hungry.”
Yuan Yi and Kui Mu looked at each other for a moment.
Finally, Yuan Yi spoke first. “There is nothing edible for humans in the Demon Realm. The miasma here is too heavy for grains to grow, and any plants or animals are consumed by poisonous insects and beasts.”
Ji Chen did not give up. “Can we not import from the mortal world?”
“Import?”
“I mean, buying ingredients from them.”
Yuan Yi shook his head. “The currency used in the Demon Realm and the outside world is different. The Immortal and mortal realms use silver, but here, we use spiritual stones and barter.”
No wonder Kui Mu had no money; it turned out spiritual stones were the currency.
“So, if I want to eat, I have to run out of the Demon Realm?”
“You probably cannot get out. Even I barely manage. You have no spiritual power. Once you pass the Black Cloud Ridge, there is a patch of extremely toxic miasma. A mortal body like yours would be instantly turned into blood.”
Ji Chen immediately lost his spirit and wilted. “But I am going to starve to death.”
Kui Mu suddenly said, “I have a piece of toxic beast meat at home. It is fresh. I originally wanted to eat it myself to satisfy a craving. If you can eat it, I can give it to you.”
“Toxic beast meat,” Ji Chen thought for a moment, sounding uncertain. “It will not be poisonous, will it?”
“It should be fine once it is cooked.”
“Should be?”
