- Chapter 28 - The Disciple Fears the Junior Brother Will Know He Is a Demon
That might be true. However, Xiao Qingyan was his mission target. Only by completing the tasks assigned by the system could he return home.
“Junior Brother, these are candied fruits. Before you fainted, did you not say you wanted to eat something sweet? I brought them for you.” Xiao Qingyan spoke in an extremely soft voice, seemingly afraid that a louder tone might startle the youth.
As Xiao Qingyan reached out his hand, Lin Sui suppressed the terror in his heart. He extended his own hand, palm facing upward toward the space in front of him. Xiao Qingyan placed a candied fruit into Lin Sui’s palm. The youth’s fair palm had been pinched until it bled due to fright. As Xiao Qingyan’s fingertip touched those tiny bloodstains, the youth suddenly recoiled, and the candied fruit rolled onto the floor.
“Do not come over here!” Lin Sui was pushed to the brink of panic, trying to shrink further under the table.
This behavior clearly showed that the junior brother was trapped in a nightmare. Xiao Qingyan could only crouch before him, patiently calling his name in hopes of waking him. A gaze fell upon Lin Sui, carrying unidentifiable emotions. Lin Sui felt as though he was about to be seen through by the great villain, yet he could not control the rolling fear in his heart. It felt as though the villain intended to tear him apart and consume him entirely.
Xiao Qingyan did not get angry; instead, he grew even more worried about Lin Sui’s condition. However, with Feng Feibai missing, they had no way to return to the sect. He had already reached the Golden Core stage, but returning by sword flight would take three months. Xiao Qingyan set up a barrier in the room before stepping out to find Zhu Jiayu. The priority was to locate Feng Feibai so they could take a flying vessel back.
“Junior Brother Zhu.” Xiao Qingyan knocked on Zhu Jiayu’s door. “We need to set out to find Feng Feibai’s whereabouts.”
Yet, after waiting for fifteen minutes, there was still no response from Zhu Jiayu. Was he asleep? No. There was no one in the room! Xiao Qingyan pushed open the door to find it empty. The window was wide open, and the wind sent the bed curtains flying. Suddenly, the barrier he had set up began to loosen.
Someone was there! Who was it? They had kidnapped Zhu Jiayu, and now they were targeting Lin Sui. Xiao Qingyan flashed back into the room, his demonic whip lashing out at the person who had forced their way into the barrier.
The figure fell to the ground, scattering into demonic energy before reforming into a human shape. A dark red cloak concealed the entire demon, leaving only a pair of crimson eyes visible. The demon knelt at Xiao Qingyan’s feet, speaking with profound respect, “Greetings, Demon Lord.”
Xiao Qingyan’s whip struck the demon again. “Who are you? Why do you call me Demon Lord?”
The demon seemed oblivious to the pain and looked up, ignoring the question. “Demon Lord, the demon race is naturally devoid of the sense of pain. No matter how hard you strike, you cannot hurt me.”
The demon race has no sense of pain by birth? Was he one of them? No. He did not want that. If he were the Demon Lord, then his junior brother would surely hate him to death. His hand clutched the demonic whip so tightly it began to shake. He kicked the demon in the chest. “Get out! I am not the Demon Lord! I am an inner disciple of the Sanqing Sect!”
The demon was in no rush to leave. He climbed back up and continued, “Demon Lord, your subordinate has searched for you for a long time. You possess the Innate Demon Body and are destined to become a demon.”
The demon continued to plead with Xiao Qingyan. Xiao Qingyan’s mind was filled with the phrase “destined to become a demon.” He did not want that! He did not want to cultivate the path of demons.
“Get out! Get out! I am not a demonic cultivator! Nor am I a Demon Lord. I am a cultivator!”
“Fate cannot be defied. My Lord, we did not work so hard to bring about your rebirth just so you could cultivate immortality. My Lord, do you know why our demon race is born without the ability to feel pain? It was those hypocritical, sanctimonious cultivators! They kidnapped our young and used them to refine medicine! They locked us in dungeons and fed that medicine back to our race to ensure we lost the ability to feel pain!”
“Furthermore, they are shameless! While they loathe our filth, they also take our blood for their medicine. My Lord, do you know what the painkillers in the immortal sects are made of? The blood of us demonic cultivators!”
As the demon spoke, the demonic energy around him surged. His blood red eyes looked as though they might drip blood. He knelt at Xiao Qingyan’s feet, recounting the atrocities the cultivation world had committed against the demon race over the years. If not for that war a hundred years ago, how could the demon race have fallen to such a state! His eyes were bloodshot; he wished he could swallow everyone in the cultivation world alive!
Xiao Qingyan was affected by the demon’s emotions. So his lack of pain was the work of the cultivation world? Did the senior uncles already know he was a demon? He possessed the Innate Demon Body and was destined for demonhood. Hahaha. The world was so unfair.
Seeing that his words had taken effect, the demon looked joyful. They could finally have their revenge. He immediately prostrated himself. “Welcome, Demon Lord.”
Xiao Qingyan bypassed the demon. Seeing that Lin Sui, who was inside the barrier, had not been disturbed by the commotion, he felt a sense of relief. He turned and commanded the demon, “Follow me.”
The demon was overjoyed and followed Xiao Qingyan out. However, as they reached the door, he looked at the demonic whip in his chest in disbelief. The whip had pierced through his body, shattering his heart. The moment the whip entered, it absorbed all the demonic energy within him.
Xiao Qingyan withdrew the whip and said coldly, “That was only my past life. What does it have to do with me in this life? Moreover, you say I have the Innate Demon Body? Then would it not be fine if I simply got rid of it?”
He had forced a great deal of information about the Innate Demon Body out of the peach demon. Literally, it meant one was born to become a demonic cultivator. Furthermore, the Innate Demon Body was the symbol of the Demon Lord. Where there was an Innate Demon Body, there would be an Innate Spiritual Body; the two existed in a state of balance. If this balance were broken, the consequences would be unimaginable.
A hundred years ago, this balance was nearly destroyed, but it was restored through unknown means. The reason it was nearly broken back then was made clear by the demon’s words. However, in this life, he was only himself. He could not carry the grudges of a past life into the present.
As the demon neared death, he laughed loudly. “Hahaha! The Demon Lord is so naive! Naive! You can never escape the Innate Demon Body unless you die!”
Xiao Qingyan raised his hand and turned the demon to ash before pushing the door back open. He could not be certain if his junior brother had heard the demon’s words. Xiao Qingyan knelt before Lin Sui, his finger touching the cinnabar mark on the youth’s forehead. He forcibly poured demonic energy into Lin Sui’s sea of consciousness, intending to erase the memory of what had just been said.
He could not let the junior brother know he was a demon. If he knew, the junior brother would loathe him! Injuries to the sea of consciousness were irreversible, but he was afraid.
A purple light suddenly glowed on Lin Sui’s forehead, entwined with black and purple. Xiao Qingyan was determined to wipe away that memory. His mind was in turmoil, and the meridians at his heart began to snap. He coughed up large mouthfuls of blood, staining his light blue collar dark.
The heavy scent of blood made Lin Sui speak. “Senior Brother Xiao, what is wrong?”
Xiao Qingyan did not answer. He had exhausted his demonic energy, yet he had failed to enter the youth’s sea of consciousness.
“Senior Brother Xiao? Are you injured?”
