- Chapter 19 - The Disciple Misunderstands Shizun Again!
This peach demon was intentionally trying to separate them!
At that moment, the mission plaque lit up. The display showed that only one day remained before the mission ended. Was time flowing that quickly within this illusion? In his mind, it felt as though only half a day had passed. It seemed this mission could no longer be delayed.
Lin Sui immediately activated a teleportation talisman. With a flash of his silhouette, he saw the Scholar. However, the Scholar did not appear to be alive. His ashen face was covered in thick rouge, with two pink circles on his cheeks and a peach blossom mark on his forehead. His pitch-black pupils were dull and lifeless.
The peach demon leaned into the Scholar’s embrace, placing his hand onto her slightly protruding belly. “Husband. We will have a child soon. Among the cultivators who arrived recently, there is one with an Innate Demon Body. The Taoist’s ancient records mentioned that the heart blood of an Innate Demon Body can heal the dead and regrow bones. I only need a few drops of his heart blood, and our child will surely grow up well.”
An Innate Demon Body?
[Yes, Host. The villain possesses the Innate Demon Body and is destined to become a demon.]
Destined to become a demon? Then what was the point of this mission? In his memory, the male leads in cultivation novels were always from the righteous path. How was he supposed to change a villain who was destined for demonhood?
“However, what is interesting is that a sect was actually willing to take in this Innate Demon Body. Are those cultivators not supposed to loathe demons the most? After all, they would not even let go of a demon like me, who has never done anything wrong.”
The peach demon cupped the Scholar’s face. As she spoke, her eyes reddened and tears fell onto the peach blossoms on the ground, burning them to ash. The Scholar gave her no response; from beginning to end, the peach demon was only talking to herself.
The courtyard gate swung open, and Xiao Qingyan appeared at the entrance. He curled his lips into a faint smile. “Sister Peach Demon, you went to such great lengths to lure me here. What kind of deal did you make with my Shizun?”
“Your Shizun?” The peach demon’s face twisted, revealing hideous burn scars on her once beautiful features.
The Scholar stood there dazed. Upon seeing the burns on her face, he reacted slightly. Pain swirled in his eyes as he raised a hand to touch her. “Qin Niang, does it hurt?”
The peach demon grabbed the Scholar’s hand, and her face shifted back to its beautiful form. “Zhang Lang, it does not hurt. Once I kill this Innate Demon Body, our family of three can be together forever.”
Before Lin Sui could react, the scene in the illusion shifted again.
“Peach demon, you killed the Scholar’s family after all! You deserve to die!” Feng Feibai roared. He had already learned the truth behind the events. All that remained was to slay the peach demon and return to the sect to submit the mission.
“And did the Scholar’s family not deserve to die? How old was the child in my womb! That Taoist ripped him out alive, hooked my child’s soul to refine a puppet, and turned my child into a peach wood bracelet! All for five hundred silver taels!” The peach demon’s voice was filled with bloody anguish.
“But that is no excuse for your cruel murder of the Scholar’s family!” Feng Feibai drew his sword and engaged the peach demon.
Xiao Qingyan also drew his natal sword and joined the fray. At first, the two men and the demon fought to a stalemate. However, the peach demon had cultivated for a hundred years and had swallowed the cultivation of the Taoist who had butchered her child. Dealing with two Foundation Building disciples was easy for her.
Soon, Feng Feibai’s sword was snatched away by her branches. His spiritual energy exhausted, he fell to the ground. Xiao Qingyan also began to struggle; he could not expose his true cultivation level yet. He could only grit his teeth and hold his ground against her.
The peach demon’s target had always been Xiao Qingyan; she did not care about the other cultivators. However, she had underestimated the youth. Though he was only at the Foundation Building stage, his swordsmanship was excellent.
Lin Sui looked up at the man and demon fighting in mid air. Suddenly, Feng Feibai, who had been sitting nearby, pressed two fingers together and shot a burst of spiritual energy into the back of Xiao Qingyan’s heart. Xiao Qingyan’s sword stroke slowed for an instant, allowing the peach demon to find an opening. A branch as thick as an arm pierced through his right shoulder blade, locking him in place.
He seemed oblivious to the pain as he hacked at the branch. The peach demon shrieked in pain and violently withdrew the branch from Xiao Qingyan’s right shoulder, yet no wound appeared on his body.
Lin Sui, however, was in agony. A piercing pain in his right shoulder made his entire arm shake. Blood stained half of his body. Large beads of sweat wet his eyelashes, sticking them together. He bit his lip hard to keep from making a sound while the battle in the air continued. Feng Feibai had disappeared, likely having escaped the illusion.
Lin Sui’s hand trembled as he pinched a wand sign, finally healing the wound on his shoulder. Why was the villain’s injury being transferred to him? Did this dog villain not lack a sense of pain?
“Ugh.”
A large hole appeared in Lin Sui’s abdomen. He immediately fell to his knees, his back convulsing with pain. His breathing became erratic as his chest heaved. He felt as though his teammate was fighting a monster while he was the one absorbing all the damage. Warm liquid flowed down his neck, and his breathing grew weak.
As his hand stopped mid air during the wand sign, a sudden burst of silver white light exploded from Xiao Qingyan’s chest. It forced the peach demon’s branches back. Then, Lin Sui realized he was in the air and had lost his sight again.
“Shizun?” Xiao Qingyan looked at the figure that had suddenly appeared before him in disbelief. So what Shizun said before was true? He really had left several bursts of spiritual energy in his chest? Then why did he treat me like that?
Lin Sui gave a faint response. This body could not produce much spiritual energy. That single move just now had already caused the Cold Poison suppressed at his heart to show signs of loosening. He could not stay long, otherwise this wolf cub behind him might take the opportunity to kill him. He could clearly feel how broken this body was; he might only achieve a narrow victory against the peach demon.
“I wondered who it was. It turns out to be the little Immortal Lord! No wonder that disciple of yours said his Shizun made a deal with me. I truly did not expect the Immortal Lord to be so handsome yet possess such a wicked heart.”
As the peach demon spoke, a dozen branches sprouted from her body and flew toward them. Lin Sui threw a barrier around Xiao Qingyan to protect him. The silver white natal sword in his hand carried a bone chilling coldness, its blade flowing with silver light. Everywhere the sword intent passed, frost followed.
Xiao Qingyan froze. The reason his sword movement had been a step slow earlier was that a wave of cold air had entered his heart. Combined with the peach demon’s words, Xiao Qingyan let out a cold laugh. As expected, his Shizun was manipulating everything from the shadows!
Lin Sui looked composed, but in reality, his heart had begun to ache, and the light on his sword had dimmed significantly. Hearing Xiao Qingyan’s inner thoughts, the sword in his hand became reluctant to strike, instead pouring all its spiritual energy into his body.
The peach demon spoke with ease, a faint smile at the corners of her eyes as she plucked a peach blossom from her body. “Little Immortal Lord, what you said to me that day was completely different from how you are acting now! You sent your disciple here to die, so why are you pretending to be a good Shizun now?”
As she spoke, her hand turned into a branch, bringing the peach blossom toward Lin Sui’s hair.
