After Redeeming the Paranoid Villain [Transmigration] - Chapter 15
When Su Yu woke up, he was already back in his own room. He had been wondering how he returned until the housekeeper mentioned that Gu Chen had ordered someone to carry him home. Only then did the entire situation become clear to him.
At this moment, Su Yu had just finished his meal and was in a state of zoning out. Suddenly, his phone began to ring. He glanced at the caller ID and saw it was his mother, which immediately gave him a headache. To be honest, he was capable of dealing with outsiders because they did not know much about him. As long as he hid his true self well enough, no one would notice his changes. However, when facing Zhou Chuyao, he always subconsciously avoided her eyes. He feared that he might inadvertently reveal his true identity.
Despite his desire to avoid her, he still had to answer the call. As soon as he picked up, Zhou Chuyao’s voice came through the line. “What is wrong with you? How did you end up getting into a fight with someone at the club? Are you trying to rebel? I even heard you went to the police station. How is it that I knew nothing about this? Are you hurt anywhere?”
Zhou Chuyao was the complete opposite of her name; she was incredibly impatient, especially regarding matters involving Su Yu. Her temperament became even more agitated in these situations. After a barrage of questions fired like a machine gun, Su Yu felt dizzy and was momentarily unsure which question to answer first.
“Mom, please let me catch my breath. Which one do you want me to answer first?” Su Yu said helplessly into the phone.
“I want you to come back here right now and explain everything to me,” Zhou Chuyao’s sharp voice returned. Her tone suggested that if he did not return, she would storm into Gu Chen’s house and drag him out herself.
“Alright, I will be back immediately. But Mom, how did you know I got into a fight?” Su Yu asked quickly before she could hang up.
“You have the nerve to ask that? Do you not know how small the social circles in the capital are? Within a single night, the entire business world found out about this stunt,” Zhou Chuyao continued to scold him, sounding utterly exasperated. “It is just like a year ago when you suddenly announced you were going to pursue Gu Chen.”
Su Yu felt a flash of embarrassment. He took responsibility for the fight at the club because it was genuinely embarrassing. However, the matter of confessing to Gu Chen had absolutely nothing to do with him. That was entirely the decision of the original soul who inhabited this body. What did the original Su Yu’s reputation have to do with the current Su Yu?
Su Yu’s heart was filled with indignation. When others transmigrated into books, they were either villains or possessed special powers. Since he transmigrated, he had nothing but a strong sense of justice. Lamenting his fate, Su Yu resigned himself to his situation, grabbed his car keys from the table, and set off to apologize to his mother.
The Maybach drove smoothly until Su Yu reached a central plaza, where he slowed down. He remembered that Zhou Chuyao liked flowers. After all, few women disliked them. To ease the upcoming awkwardness and promote harmony, Su Yu pulled over in front of a flower shop.
He looked at the wide array of flowers before choosing ninety-nine brilliant red roses and asking the shopkeeper to wrap them. Su Yu recalled that the first time he arrived at the Su family home, the roses displayed in the living room had immediately caught his eye. Thus, he knew Zhou Chuyao loved them.
Su Yu walked out of the flower shop clutching the massive bouquet, but he had barely taken a step when someone blocked his path. A man wearing glasses scrutinized Su Yu for a long time. In that short span, Su Yu broke out in a cold sweat. He worried he was unlucky enough to have run into one of the original Su Yu’s friends, as he had no memory of those people.
Fortunately, the man withdrew his gaze after a moment and handed a business card to Su Yu. “Hello, sir. I am Li Wen, a celebrity manager from Huaxing Entertainment. I have been watching you since you were buying flowers. I noticed your physical attributes are excellent. Do you have any interest in entering the entertainment industry? With your looks, you would be very popular. If you are willing, I will convince the CEO to assign you to me, and I will do my utmost to secure the best resources for you.”
Su Yu had not expected to be scouted while simply buying flowers. The man’s speech left him stunned. Seeing how confident the man was, Su Yu wondered why he was so certain that he would sign the contract. Curiosity got the better of him, so Su Yu paused and asked, “Why did you pick me? There are plenty of people on this street with great physical attributes.” As he spoke, he glanced toward the influencers filming videos nearby.
“No, you are different from them. I can feel it,” Li Wen said.
“What is the difference?” Su Yu became even more curious.
“In terms of appearance alone, you are indeed outstanding, but there are others as striking as you. However, those people lack a certain quality you possess. It is a trait many in the industry try to mimic, but it always feels fake. They do not have your natural, effortless aura.”
“What quality is that?” Su Yu asked.
“Nobility,” Li Wen replied, recalling the breathtaking first glimpse he caught of Su Yu. “You do not realize it, but when you were standing in the flower shop holding those roses, you gave off the feeling that you are very expensive and that no one is worthy of you. You know that feeling, right?”
Su Yu coughed awkwardly and remained silent for a long time. He thought about the original host’s background, how his mother would casually give him millions in pocket money, and finally about Gu Chen, who was currently his husband. Admittedly, he was quite “expensive.” Li Wen was not wrong to say he carried a natural air of nobility.
Su Yu gave an awkward smile and declined Li Wen’s offer. He had no plans to enter the entertainment industry for the time being. However, Li Wen was persistent, following him and even stuffing a business card into his pocket as he left. It was not until Su Yu returned to his car that he found the card and tucked it away.
When Su Yu entered his mother’s house carrying the large bouquet, Zhou Chuyao was sitting on the sofa sulking. She saw the roses first, but as soon as she saw Su Yu behind them, her face hardened again.
“What is this? Are you trying to win me over with roses now? Is this all you have learned over the years?” Zhou Chuyao spoke mercilessly, but her tone had clearly softened.
Su Yu immediately pressed his advantage and handed the roses to her. “Mom, they are so heavy. Quick, please take them. You have no idea. I was driving past a flower shop today, and the moment I saw these roses, they were so beautiful they instantly made me think of you.”
Sweet talk was particularly effective on Zhou Chuyao. Seeing the anger on her face fade, she finally took the roses and huffed. “It is always like this. Whenever you do something wrong, you find something I like to appease me. You are exactly like your father.”
Su Yu thought of his father, who had been away across the Atlantic since he arrived, and gave an awkward cough.
“Speak up. Honestly, how did you end up fighting with people?” Although she was still questioning him, she was clearly no longer angry.
“I was just sitting there listening to them talk, but they said bad things about Gu Chen. I had a bit too much to drink at the time and could not control myself,” Su Yu explained.
“Just because they said bad things about Gu Chen?” Zhou Chuyao looked at him in disbelief.
Su Yu lowered his head and nodded. “I could not stand hearing them insult him, so I lost my temper.” At this point, Su Yu gritted his teeth, looking like a martyr prepared for execution. “Mom, hit me if you want. I know I was wrong.”
Upon hearing this, Zhou Chuyao’s eyes widened in shock. “You want me to hit you? When you were little and I wanted to discipline you, you would run all over the house. When you grew up and got into trouble, you would run away if I tried to hit you. And now, for Gu Chen’s sake, you are actually saying this?”
She looked at her son, still immersed in shock. After a long silence, she spoke with a complex expression. “Just how much do you love Gu Chen?”
Su Yu choked on his words. He wanted to explain, but he could not find a good reason to justify the situation. He certainly could not tell her the truth: that he was not from this world, that he had transmigrated into a book, and that his purpose was to help Gu Chen. While that was the truth, if he said it out loud, he would surely be sent to a psychiatric hospital.
During the silence, Zhou Chuyao took his lack of response as confirmation. She pointed at him helplessly. “I have been clever my whole life. How did I give birth to a son who is so hopelessly in love?”
Su Yu looked up at her, completely dazed. “What?”
Looking at her son, Zhou Chuyao could only sigh in resignation. “Is the injury serious? Did you go to the hospital?”
Su Yu snapped out of his daze and replied, “It is not serious. It was just a minor injury. It is fine now.”
Seeing her son so willing to give everything for someone else, Zhou Chuyao finally asked, “Is it worth it? I mean, is it worth being so devoted to Gu Chen?”
Su Yu lowered his eyes, and his voice was very soft. “It is worth it.”
