After Redeeming the Paranoid Villain [Transmigration] - Chapter 11
Su Yu looked at Gu Chen, who was leaning against the bed with his eyes closed, resting. It was as if that terrifying, predatory gaze from moments ago had been nothing more than an illusion. Su Yu shook his head and walked toward the door. He told himself that the look must have just been a trick of his mind.
After Su Yu left, Gu Chen opened his eyes. His expression remained calm, but beneath that placid surface, a violent storm was brewing. The gaze that had frightened Su Yu was now displayed without any restraint.
Gu Chen looked in the direction Su Yu had gone. He could still sense Su Yu’s scent lingering around him, clean and pure like the first snowfall of winter. Gu Chen narrowed his eyes slightly.
All his embarrassment, all his wretchedness, and all his vulnerability had been seen by Su Yu alone. From now on, it would stay that way. He would never allow Su Yu to leave him.
At that thought, a cruel smile touched the corners of Gu Chen’s lips. In this dim room, a terrifying beast had finally found its beloved prey. From this moment on, he would encircle that prey within his territory and never allow it to stray even half a step away.
When Su Yu returned to his own room, he let out an instinctive sigh of relief. He touched the treated wound on his neck and looked back toward Gu Chen’s room with lingering fear. Although his reflexes were often slow and he could be a bit dense, even he had sensed extreme danger in that instant. The aura Gu Chen exuded was so powerful that Su Yu could not tell what the man was actually thinking.
Su Yu sighed and lay down on the bed. He decided he could only take things as they came and adapt to Gu Chen’s sudden change in temperament.
Between sleep and wakefulness, a ringtone startled Su Yu. He checked the caller ID and saw the name “Xia Maoyan.” He had absolutely no memory of this person, but he answered the call anyway.
As soon as Su Yu muttered a greeting, a blast of noisy music filled his ears, making his head throb.
“Su Yu, you kid have not called us in so long. Did you forget about us already?” a playful male voice shouted over the music. “Or is it that after marrying Gu Chen, you have started behaving yourself and playing the part of the dutiful spouse? If so, that is truly impressive.”
Su Yu frowned, instinctively wanting to ignore the comments. He did not get a good feeling from this person as the caller sounded like a bit of a hoodlum.
“I have been talking to you for ages and there is no reaction. You did not hang up on me, did you?” the voice asked. The person then muttered to himself, “No, it is still connected. Why are you not talking? Hello, Su Yu?”
Despite his reluctance, Su Yu had to respond. “What is it?”
“Are you coming out to play? Think about how long it has been since you went out. Did that freak Gu Chen really lock you up at home?” the man teased.
Su Yu did not like hearing people speak ill of Gu Chen, even in jest. He lowered his eyes, gripped the phone, and said, “No. Gu Chen is very good.”
The person on the other end went silent for a moment, then laughed to cover the awkwardness. “Alright, do not take it so seriously. I was just joking with you. Hurry up and come out. We are at the old place.”
“What old place?” Su Yu asked.
“No way. Have you really turned into a brainless house husband at the Gu house? You do not even know our old place?” Another playful voice drifted through the phone. Su Yu guessed the person had the call on speaker. “Enough talk. It is at Shan Mian. Get over here fast because we are all waiting for you.”
Before Su Yu could refuse, the person hung up. Su Yu sat on the bed staring at his phone in a daze.
He actually had no desire to attend social gatherings. In the real world, he suffered from social anxiety and avoided such events whenever possible. But this time was different. Su Yu deduced that the original owner of this body must have been a social butterfly. He did not want to go, but his understanding of the original Su Yu was limited to what he had read in the book. Since the original Su Yu was just a minor character, the author had not provided much detail. To ensure he did not blow his cover, Su Yu realized he had to interact with the original owner’s friends. He needed to learn what the original Su Yu was like from their perspective so he would not be caught in his day-to-day life.
Su Yu forced himself to focus and searched the name “Xia Maoyan” online. As a young master of the Su family, his friends would not be nobodies. He hoped to find information on the internet so he would not make a mistake or fail to recognize someone when they met.
He was right. A search for the name immediately brought up a profile. Xia Maoyan was the eldest son of the Xia Group. There was even a photo of him, and Su Yu could tell from the picture that the man had a cynical, playboy-like air about him. He was probably just another useless second-generation rich kid.
Su Yu put his phone in his pocket, grabbed the keys to the Maybach from his desk, and headed toward the garage. He sat in the car, staring at the steering wheel and falling into thought. Many people said Gu Chen was cold and heartless, so cold that when his mother died in front of him, he only reached up to wipe the blood from his face as if the person bleeding were a stranger.
But in Su Yu’s eyes, Gu Chen was not like that. Gu Chen was attentive. That day, when Su Yu drove the Maybach back to return the keys, Gu Chen had merely glanced at him and said, “You like it? If you like it, then take it.”
Before Su Yu could even react, Gu Chen had already taken the elevator up. Since then, the keys had remained with Su Yu. It was as if Gu Chen had simply given him the car.
Su Yu drove to Shan Mian. He had researched the place before leaving; it was an exclusive, high-end entertainment club that required a membership card for entry. Just as Su Yu was worrying about not having a card, a security guard saw him park. The guard hurried to Su Yu’s window and spoke enthusiastically, “Young Master Su, you have not been here in a while!”
The guard looked at the car and added, “Did you get a new car?”
Su Yu did not know how to respond, so he simply gave a cold “mm” and said nothing else. Seeing Su Yu’s attitude, the guard assumed it was just the unpredictable temper of a wealthy young master. He quickly took the keys to park the car for him.
As Su Yu walked through the entrance, several staff members greeted him. He realized that the original Su Yu was indeed a regular at such scenes. This realization gave Su Yu a headache. His personality was the exact opposite of the original owner’s. Any move he made could potentially reveal that he was not the real Su Yu. He felt he was frowning more and more often and sighed helplessly, deciding to just take it one step at a time.
Following the room number he was given, Su Yu navigated through the decadent atmosphere of the main hall and pushed open a door in the hallway. As he entered, the people singing on the sofas all looked toward the door. In the center of the sofa, a man released the woman he was holding and stood up. “Man, I thought you were not coming!”
Under the dim lights, the man walked forward, and Su Yu could finally see his face. He was quite handsome with expressive eyes that seemed full of emotion. His slightly upturned lips gave him a cynical and carefree attitude, embodying the peak of casual indifference.
Su Yu nodded and, mimicking the original Su Yu’s personality, greeted the man. “If I did not come, would I not be wasting your kind invitation?”
Xia Maoyan froze for a second, then laughed heartily. “Exactly! It looks like you are back to your old self. We heard you were being all hardworking and submissive at the Gu house; we thought you were possessed by a ghost.”
At the mention of being “possessed by a ghost,” Su Yu’s body instinctively tensed, but he quickly forced himself to relax. Based on how people had treated him on the way in, Su Yu could guess the original owner’s temperament and did his best to imitate it. Although he appeared calm, his palms were soaked with sweat. Fortunately, his disguise seemed successful.
Xia Maoyan led Su Yu to a seat in the center. The sofas were filled with young men and women. Some were wealthy socialites like Su Yu, while others had been brought along to liven up the atmosphere. Seeing Su Yu sit down, some people began plotting ways to get close to him. They knew that everyone in this room was wealthy or influential. Compared to the others, Su Yu looked young and easy to handle, so people intentionally crowded around him to get his attention.
Frowning, Su Yu pushed away a drink offered by a young lady. He clearly disliked the atmosphere. The heavy scent of various perfumes in the air made it difficult to breathe. He began to regret participating in an event he had never wanted to attend in the first place.
Xia Maoyan was the first to notice the change in Su Yu’s mood. He blocked the people trying to crowd Su Yu and joked, “That is enough, you lot. Su Yu is a married man now.”
The others in the room began to jeer. “That is right! You better stay away from him. That one at his house is very terrifying.”
