After Redeeming the Female Lead, I Faked My Death and Escaped - Chapter 33.2
Lin Yu finally realized she would never leave this hospital.
In the eyes of her family, she had become nothing but a complete madwoman.
When Liang Ruoyan pushed open the ward door again, she saw her patient lying peacefully in bed.
She would never suffer again.
Lin Yu was seen as a disgrace. No one held a funeral for her.
The husband who had played the role of a devoted man for ten years was finally “freed.” After hastily posting an obituary on social media, he threw himself back into high-society banquets.
It seemed as if the whole world had forgotten Lin Yu except for Liang Ruoyan.
Today’s scene took place in midsummer.
In the stark white room, natural light streamed in through the fan-shaped window, illuminating a desk covered in letters.
The letter in Liang Ruoyan’s hand still carried the faint scent of ink. The sunlight burned against it, as if touching the lingering warmth of the woman’s skin.
It was a handwritten letter from Lin Yu, delivered months ago.
At the time, Liang Ruoyan had been drowning in grief over her death and hadn’t returned to the neighboring city. Only today, stumbling upon it by chance, did she finally open it.
The letter wasn’t long, but the information it contained left Liang Ruoyan stunned. With just a few words, Lin Yu completely shattered the image of the perfect politician in the public eye revealing him as a hypocrite, a criminal who disregarded human lives, a side of him no one could have imagined.
But this letter wasn’t written in the hope that Liang Ruoyan would speak out for her or seek justice that was too distant.
Her only wish was for Liang Ruoyan to anonymously tell her daughter the whole truth once she came of age.
This was a long psychological scene, with very few lines. The emotions had to be conveyed solely through subtle shifts in expression.
To the audience, it was excruciatingly dull. Even Ying Xu, who played Liang Ruoyan, lost focus for the first time during today’s shoot.
Acting had always come naturally to Ying Xu, like an innate talent. She often saw herself as an observer, rarely slipping out of character.
But in this scene, those simple words seemed to piece together a figure a pale, frail woman lying on a bed in a solemn, sterile hospital room. She had the most familiar face to this body, the person Ying Xu was most “intimate” with Gu Qingzhu.
Without realizing it, Ying Xu shifted from being an observer to a “participant.”
When she first read the script, Ying Xu had suspected this drama was closely tied to the original story. But the plot was too exaggerated, with no direct parallels to reality, so she hadn’t dwelled on it.
Yet after leaving the hospital, when Ying Xu reread the part where Lin Yu was forcibly admitted, the first person she thought of was still Gu Qingzhu.
Even now, she still didn’t understand the reason for Gu Qingzhu’s hospitalization.
If it was for treatment, then medication would be inevitable. But in all the time they’d lived together in the mansion, Ying Xu had never seen Gu Qingzhu take any pills.
Nor had she ever displayed any physical reactions or side effects from medication.
Refusing medication and any other treatments would make the hospital visit meaningless. Gu Qingzhu wouldn’t bother with such a thankless task.
Ying Xu had always struggled to understand the reasoning behind it, but now a vague thought surfaced: Could Gu Qingzhu have been forcibly admitted to the hospital as well?
But unlike Lin Yu, an Omega, Gu Qingzhu was in a completely different position. Lin Yu was defenseless and unable to resist, while Gu Qingzhu was decisive and authoritative. Their identities and statuses were worlds apart, with no common ground.
“Clack ”
The sound of a clapperboard snapped Ying Xu out of her thoughts. As she stood up, she was met with admiring gazes from all around.
One gaze stood out in particular. She turned slightly to see Luo Zhu standing behind the director. Bundled in a coat, the woman handed her a bottle of water, her admiration undisguised. “Ying… Ying Xu.”
To understand Ying Xu better, Luo Zhu had recently watched several of her dramas. On screen, the woman was undeniably beautiful, but her acting was stiff and lifeless.
Today’s visit to the set had been entirely unplanned. Luo Zhu had come expecting to be “blinded by bad acting,” but to her surprise, Ying Xu had delivered far more than just “a personality completely different from the rumors.”
She was so stunned that her words stumbled, her nerves getting the better of her.
Ying Xu hadn’t expected to see Luo Zhu here. Responding gently, she cut straight to the point. “Is… there something from the company?”
Hadn’t Gu Qingzhu just increased her favorability last night? Could she have already concocted some new way to torment her in just one evening?
Ying Xu never hesitated to assume the worst in any situation.
Luo Zhu nodded and led Ying Xu to an empty dressing room before pulling several folders from her bag.
“These are all the key projects Feiyun is focusing on for the first half of the year.”
Ying Xu raised a brow slightly. “Am I supposed to choose?”
Recalling the higher-ups’ exact words, Luo Zhu weighed her response carefully. “As long as your schedule allows, you can select multiple options.”
As expected.
No more humiliating variety show roles. Instead, there were well-written supporting roles in high-quality dramas, makeup endorsements, magazine shoots every type of project imaginable.
Many of these opportunities had once been beyond Ying Xu’s reach, but judging by Luo Zhu’s attitude, it was clear she had been assured, whatever project Ying Xu wanted, someone would secure it for her.
Luo Zhu watched as Ying Xu flipped through the folders, expecting her to make ambitious demands or even try to claim them all.
But as Ying Xu reached the end, where the projects were clearly scraps tossed to lesser-known artists, her slender finger suddenly tapped one of them.
Her voice was soft. “This one will do.”
Luo Zhu glanced down. The title was simple: #Caring for Orphaned Children#. The project itself was straightforward, spend a day with children at an orphanage, accompanied by a photographer to document the company’s charitable efforts.
“And the others?”
Given Ying Xu’s current poor reputation, using children to rehabilitate her image was a risky move, but not entirely unreasonable.
Still, she couldn’t possibly settle for just this one, could she? Even if the public bought into the “kind and virtuous” act, Ying Xu couldn’t rely solely on this to clean up her image.
“Nothing else for now,” Ying Xu replied with a smile. “I’d like to focus on doing this well first.”
Luo Zhu was moved by her sincerity and didn’t press further, simply nodding in agreement.
After resting in the dressing room for a while, Ying Xu stepped out only to overhear a conversation.
“What’s wrong with Gu Qingzhu? She suddenly looked awful during filming just now.”
“I’m not sure. But after Sheng Qiuyu scolded her like that, she can still act normally with her what incredible restraint.”
Ying Xu’s footsteps faltered.
According to the original shooting schedule, Sheng Qiuyu and Gu Qingzhu shouldn’t have had any scenes together today.
