After Redeeming the Female Lead, I Faked My Death and Escaped - Chapter 19.2
Xu Ying’s grave wasn’t hard to find.
It stood at the very center of the cemetery.
Only one line was inscribed on it: [Xu Ying’s Grave]
Below were the dates of birth and death.
At the foot of the tombstone, a bouquet of white roses had already been soaked by the rain, clearly left by earlier visitors.
Staring at the flowers for a few seconds, Gu Qingzhu didn’t move them. Instead, she slowly knelt and placed her own bouquet beside them.
Ying Xu had thought Gu Qingzhu went to such lengths to see Xu Ying because she had something to say to the Beta.
Death extinguishes life like a snuffed candle, but if speaking to a tombstone could offer some psychological solace, it might still hold value.
But Gu Qingzhu remained silent.
After placing the flowers, she did nothing else, simply gazing quietly at the tombstone. Her solitary figure, drenched by the downpour, seemed on the verge of dissolving into the gray desolation.
Ying Xu suddenly recalled how Gu Qingzhu had looked in the car.
Her eyes were filled with panic, fear drowning out the once-arrogant expression on her face.
She stared at the tombstone, which bore no photo of Xu Ying just a brief epitaph, much like Xu Ying’s own life.
From an objective standpoint, Xu Ying had been brilliant, born into privilege, with a future full of promise. Her death in an accident was like a dazzling firework abruptly snuffed out undeniably tragic.
But from Ying Xu’s subjective perspective,
She gazed at the tombstone, feeling nothing but boredom and irritation.
The only reason she had accompanied Gu Qingzhu here was purely due to Shan Qiaoyun’s threats.
Ying Xu set down the umbrella, indifferent to whether Gu Qingzhu would pick it up to shield herself from the rain, and simply walked away to the other side.
Raindrops slapped against her face with the wind. She unlocked her phone absentmindedly, finally finding the time to contact Sheng Qiuyu.
Just as she finished drafting and sent the message.
A brand-new, unfamiliar number sent her a text at the same moment.
The last unknown number had stopped bothering her after she blocked it. She had assumed the sender was afraid of being reported and had slunk away with their tail between their legs.
Who would have thought that, after just a short while, they’d come back with a vengeance?
This time, they sent the same intimate photos as before no words, but the threat was unmistakable.
Staring at the images, Ying Xu curled her lips and, without hesitation, forwarded Shan Qiaoyun’s contact information to the sender.
If they insisted on threatening her, they could go argue with Shan Qiaoyun. Let the dogs fight, why should she be dragged into it?
Sheng Qiuyu hadn’t replied. Ying Xu tapped the edge of her phone screen idly with her knuckles, contemplating her next steps.
Shan Qiaoyun’s threats had bluntly reminded Ying Xu of two things.
First, she currently lacked the ability to resist. Second, it wasn’t Ying Xu who needed Gu Qingzhu’s love.
From the very beginning, it had always been Gu Qingzhu unilaterally demanding everything from Ying Xu, whether it was her resemblance to Xu Ying, the pheromones that could alleviate her illness, or even cure it entirely.
As long as Gu Qingzhu didn’t want to die young like Xu Ying.
She would always need Ying Xu.
Desperately trying to escape or appease her would be utterly futile.
The Omega was a complete madwoman, living in delusion, never once stepping into reality.
Those who cared for her lamented this, but Ying Xu saw it as the perfect opportunity.
Why should Ying Xu be forced to live in Xu Ying’s shadow?
A madwoman, susceptible to the influence of past memories, could just as easily be swayed by stronger emotions in the present changed.
Until she became exactly what Ying Xu wanted.
Ying Xu turned her head slightly, looking through the rain’s haze at the woman standing silently before the grave.
Rain slid down her hair, soaking her long dress. Ying Xu took slow steps forward but paused midway.
“Gu Qingzhu?”
The rain blurred her vision. Only when Gu Qingzhu looked up in surprise did she realize she was drenched.
Her lashes trembled, tears slipping unconsciously. She wiped them away, only to find a group of people standing before her.
Wei Xuyan was dressed sharply, her face weathered, fine wrinkles at the corners of her eyes, her gaze icy as she stared at Gu Qingzhu.
But it wasn’t her who spoke it was another, well-dressed Beta.
He was the Xu family member who had previously contacted Gu Qingzhu. After Wei Xuyan discovered this, fearing repercussions, he had immediately thrown all the blame onto Gu Qingzhu, slandering her relentlessly.
When he suddenly spotted the Omega, he assumed she had sneaked in by leveraging her status. Swelling with arrogance and fearing reprimand from Wei Xuyan, he immediately snapped, “What are you doing here? Haven’t you done enough harm to Second Sister already? She’s now ”
If it weren’t for Xu Ying, Gu Qingzhu would never have had to deal with such trash in her life.
She paid no attention to the fuming man, instead turning to Wei Xuyan. Her lips moved slightly as she murmured softly, “Ms. Wei, I came with”
“Are you deaf?” The Beta, incensed by her disregard, flared up, ready to unleash another tirade when a calm female voice cut in, “We should leave now.”
“Ms. Shan has been waiting for us.”
The man’s eyes lingered on Gu Qingzhu’s face, itching to pick a fight, but upon hearing the voice, he merely sneered, “How did such riffraff even get in here? Is the award-winning actress treating this place like a dump Second Sister!”
His tone shifted from haughty to horrified in the instant he looked up.
His eyes widened in disbelief at the woman approaching the group. She exuded an intellectual beauty, her fingers tapping rhythmically on her phone, just like Xu Ying used to do every afternoon, idly drumming the table while analyzing data on her screen.
For a moment, everyone’s emotions were thrown into disarray.
Gu Qingzhu whispered, “This visit is very abrupt. I just wanted you to meet Ying Xu.”
“And to let me see her too”
She trailed off because, before she could finish, Wei Xuyan had already turned her gaze to the woman behind her.
“Ying Xu,” Wei Xuyan spoke.
Just two words, yet they carried an inexplicable familiarity for Ying Xu, as if she had been called that many times before without any resistance.
