After Redeeming The Beautiful and Tragic Heroine [Transmigration] - Chapter 38
After enjoying the morning tea, they returned to the Mo Residence.
Yu Yuan followed Xue Qingshu, not back to her own courtyard, but to Xue Qingshu’s.
The courtyard was quiet and empty.
Xue Qingshu pushed open the wing room door and walked in.
Yu Yuan followed, closing the door behind her. “Is that person’s aura still present?” she asked.
Xue Qingshu sat down on the edge of the bed and removed her outer robes as she replied to Yu Yuan, “It is.”
Yu Yuan glanced toward the window and set up a barrier. “It seems that person intends to stick close to us.”
As she spoke, she retrieved the medicine from her storage pouch and arranged it on the small table beside the bed.
Xue Qingshu lowered her gaze at the familiar medicines, then obediently lay down on the bed, exposing the wound on her lower abdomen.
“Who do you think that person could be?” Xue Qingshu asked, watching the shifting reflections on the bed curtains.
Yu Yuan pondered the question, then confessed frankly, “I have no leads.”
With that, she removed the blood-stained white gauze wrapped around Xue Qingshu’s waist and began to methodically change the dressing.
Xue Qingshu watched her silently, then, after a long pause, said seriously, “That person has clearly been following us the whole time. Don’t you suspect anyone?”
Yu Yuan’s hands paused.
Suspect someone close by. It wasn’t that she hadn’t considered it.
She had suspected everyone around her except Yu Yan.
But on the day of the Sect Tournament, all the people she suspected had no opportunity to strike.
Yet, she still got hurt.
Therefore, Yu Yuan simply didn’t want to think about it anymore.
“Suspecting people is too tiring. I just need to be extra cautious,” Yu Yuan replied to Xue Qingshu.
Upon hearing this, Xue Qingshu shifted her gaze back to the canopy above. After a moment of silence, she said earnestly, “Wouldn’t it be better to just kill them all?”
If everyone was killed, it would save her the trouble of suspicion and the daily anxiety.
Yu Yuan was speechless.
For some reason, she instantly understood Xue Qingshu’s logic.
It was as if she had heard the explanation for that phrase before.
However, after considering killing everyone, Yu Yuan still told Xue Qingshu, “That really isn’t necessary.”
Xue Qingshu fell silent again.
Yu Yuan looked at Xue Qingshu’s quiet expression and was reminded of the original novel’s ending, where everyone except the female protagonist was thrown into the pit of eternal fire.
Since learning that Xue Qingshu had the ‘reborn’ script, Yu Yuan had assumed Xue Qingshu would now be in a state of accepting life and death, and wouldn’t engage in large-scale slaughter again.
But now, it seemed she had overthink things.
Yu Yuan silently activated the System that had been in hibernation mode in her Sea of Consciousness. “Measure Immortal Lord Wen Ti’s descent into darkness value.”
Inside her Sea of Consciousness, the electronic panel flickered, and a mechanical voice began to speak.
[System loading…]
[System receiving host’s command.]
[Beginning to measure the Darkness Level of the villain, Immortal Wen Ti…]
[Test completed.]
[Immortal Wen Ti Darkness Level: 99.9999%]
Yu Yuan: …
She paused, then asked, “What about Xue Qingshu’s Darkness Level?”
System: [99.999%]
Yu Yuan: …More or less the same.

After applying the medicine, Yu Yuan began wrapping Xue Qingshu in fresh gauze.
Xue Qingshu sat on the bed, and Yu Yuan wrapped her arms around the other person’s waist, encircling the gauze layer by layer.
“After this dressing change, the injury should be almost healed,” Yu Yuan said.
Xue Qingshu lowered her eyes to the back of Yu Yuan’s head, then looked up at the door, which had no screen to obstruct it. She silently counted: three, two, one…
BAM— The door was kicked open from the outside.
A figure in peach-pink robes burst into the wing room, shouting, “Master, Master!”
Yu Yuan froze completely. She mechanically looked behind her, her eyes colliding with Yu Yan, who had just rushed in.
Yu Yan gasped!
Her pupils shrank; she sucked in a sharp breath, instantly darted back out of the wing room, and, in passing, shoved Qin Beilu out of the way who was preparing to enter ensuring no one else could come in.
Yu Yuan: …
She stared at the tightly closed door with complex emotions for a few seconds. She took a deep breath, then met Xue Qingshu’s eyes.
“You did that on purpose,” she stated flatly.
Xue Qingshu avoided Yu Yuan’s gaze, which counted as an admission.
Yu Yuan said nothing more. She sped up her movements and finished bandaging Xue Qingshu’s wound.
Once the wound was dressed, Yu Yuan got up, tidied the messy white gauze on the bed and the bottles on the small table, and opened the door to the wing room.
Outside, Yu Yan stood awkwardly. Beside her was Qin Beilu who was holding her chiba flute, asked her, “Was the Immortal Lord telling the Young Sect Master something you weren’t supposed to hear?”
Yu Yan was silent, then shook her head.
Qin Beilu then asked, “Then was it something you didn’t want to hear?”
Yu Yan hesitated. Recalling the image of Yu Yuan embracing ‘Immortal Lord Wen Ti’, a shiver ran through her, and she nodded. “Mmm… I guess so.”
Big Sister and Master having a secret master-disciple relationship was definitely something she didn’t want to see or hear about.
Yu Yuan stood behind them, listening to their conversation. She cleared her throat, signaling her presence.
Yu Yan turned around to face Yu Yuan. “Big Sister, you…”
She trailed off, unsure what to say.
Yu Yuan felt too weary to explain, so she asked, “Why did you come looking for Master?”
On a normal day, Yu Yan, like her, would avoid Immortal Lord Wen Ti whenever possible, and never sought her out actively.
For her to suddenly seek her out today, something important must have happened.
“I looked for you, and when you weren’t in your courtyard, I came to find the Master,” Yu Yan explained first.
Then, she craned her neck, glanced at Xue Qingshu, who was calmly drinking tea behind Yu Yuan, swallowed hard, shook the inappropriate thoughts from her mind, and got to the point. “Big Sister, Xi Mengjiao has been locked up by Mo Zhao. Mo Zhao is the problem.”
Mo Zhao is the problem? Yu Yuan’s gaze went past Yu Yan to what was behind her. “There certainly is a problem.”
Yu Yan looked confused.
She and Qin Beilu followed Yu Yuan’s line of sight and looked behind them, only to find a group of black-robed figures had appeared.
Yu Yan’s breath hitched. “Big Sister, who are they?”
“The Shalemo,” Yu Yuan said, her eyes narrowing as she stared at the skull masks covering the assassins’ faces.
Shalemo, a notorious assassin organization in the cultivation world.
They had never failed a killing mission they accepted.
Yu Yuan met the gaze of the leader with a complex expression, her hand, hidden in her sleeve, silently gripping a talisman.
The Shalemo were also staring intently at the three of them.
The leader’s gaze scanned between Yu Yuan and Yu Yan, finally settling on Yu Yuan. “Except for the one in the goose-yellow gown, the rest were…”
His husky voice paused, and he let out a chilling chuckle.
Yu Yan and Qin Beilu’s hearts sank. Their hands flashed, their spiritual artifacts already charged and ready.
Then, they heard the black-robed leader say, “—let them all go. Not even a single strand of hair should be touched.”
Yu Yuan: …
She knew these people were here for her.
Her mind immediately focused. She stepped out from behind Yu Yan and Qin Beilu, directly facing the Shalemo leader.
“You’re here to kill me, aren’t you?” Yu Yuan stared at him.
The leader sized Yu Yuan up and scoffed. “That’s right.”
Yu Yuan subtly shifted her hand and asked, “Who sent you to kill me?”
The leader’s keen eye noticed Yu Yuan’s small movement.
He slowly raised the blade in his hand, blocking his front, and raised his voice to answer, “Naturally, someone that Young Master has offended.”
As he finished speaking, he raised his hand to signal the people behind him, then with a flash, he was the first to attack Yu Yuan.
Qin Beilu was standing behind Yu Yuan.
Seeing this, she immediately prepared to step forward to help Yu Yuan deal with the Shalemo.
But Yu Yan pressed down on Qin Beilu’s arm, stopping her. “It’s fine. Big Sister can deal with these few in a couple of moves.”
As soon as Yu Yan spoke, a bright yellow talisman flew out from Yu Yuan’s sleeve, darting toward the Shalemo assassins.
The assassins didn’t clearly see what was drawn on the talisman.
However, they knew instinctively that this must be an offensive talisman.
So, the moment the talisman flew toward them, they flashed and scattered, all avoiding the paper.
The talisman stuck to the ground where they had previously stood, completely still.
Seeing this, the Shalemo leader frowned slightly. He warily glanced at the talisman and signaled the closest black-robed man to investigate.
The black-robed man received the order and cautiously approached, using a hand-held sword to poke the talisman, repeatedly testing it.
Meanwhile, the remaining assassins turned back towards Yu Yuan, raising their blades and swords.
“Kill!” With the leader’s command, everyone immediately rushed toward Yu Yuan from three directions.
Yu Yuan watched them, her expression calm, her feet not moving an inch.
Three, two, one.
Yu Yuan counted silently in her heart. The instant the last number fell, the corner of her mouth lifted slightly. She waved at the Shalemo figures. Her thin lips parted. “Gentlemen, farewell.”
Farewell? What farewell?
The Shalemo assassins froze for a moment. The next second, they heard a surprised cry from the assassin investigating the talisman. Immediately after, a strange force suddenly grabbed them, pulling them into the talisman fluttering on the ground.
Golden dust sparkled and scattered around the talisman’s edges in the sunlight.
Yu Yuan snapped her fingers, and the talisman turned into dust.
“Big Sister, your Teleportation Talisman has been upgraded again?” Yu Yan stepped forward, standing beside Yu Yuan.
Yu Yuan nodded. “I added a little bit of the Positioning Talisman’s function to it.”
Yu Yan looked at the footprints remaining in the golden dust on the ground. “Where did Big Sister send them?”
Yu Yuan smiled, explaining concisely, “To the Council Hall of the Miaoyin Sect.”
Yu Yan’s eyes widened.
She quickly calculated the time. The council meeting should be halfway through right now.
“Big Sister, that’s ruthless,” Yu Yan gave Yu Yuan a thumbs up.
This particular time slot was when the short-tempered elders in the Council Hall were usually at a deadlock in their discussions.
For these Shalemo to arrive in the Council Hall now was equivalent to them walking straight into the firing line.
“Big Sister, what do you think the Elders will do to vent their anger on these people?” Yu Yan asked, grinning broadly.
Yu Yuan pondered the question seriously. “I imagine the Demon Prison Pavilion will have to change its name.”
“Change its name?” Yu Yan thought about it, then smiled knowingly. “It looks like the Demon Prison Pavilion is going to be lively for quite a while.”
Most of the demons in the Demon Prison Pavilion were ferocious. These Shalemo entering there would certainly lose a layer of skin, at the very least.
Yu Yuan nodded in agreement and glanced toward the wing room.
Inside, Xue Qingshu was still calmly drinking tea.
Seeing Yu Yuan look her way, she placed the teacup on the table.
“Is it over?” Xue Qingshu turned her head to meet Yu Yuan’s eyes.
Yu Yuan shook her head and pointed toward the signal flare that had just lit up in the distant sky, launched by the Miaoyin Sect. “Not yet.”
*******
In the Mo Manor Pavilion.
A black-robed figure sat in a pavilion. Before him lay the shattered pieces of a glazed jade brush.
He turned his head to look at a woman in a long golden skirt in his peripheral vision, asking in a low voice, “Did you retrieve the item?”
The woman looked up at the black-robed man, then immediately bowed her head. “I did, Master,” she replied.
As she spoke, she presented a wooden box engraved with the character ‘Mo’.
The black-robed man opened the box. Inside was a slender, clear porcelain bottle containing a light blue liquid.
“Condensation Water Paste. I didn’t expect to have to use it now.”
The black-robed man chuckled, placed the fragments of the glazed jade brush into the small wooden box, and then stood up. He spoke to the woman in gold, “You didn’t manage to deal with that tail, did you?”
He was referring to Xi Mengjiao, who had followed the woman to the Mo Family’s treasure house.
“This—” The woman dropped to her knees with a thud, trembling with fear. “Forgive me, Master. That Xi Mengjiao was extremely troublesome, and since you urgently summoned this subordinate, I—I simply locked her in the secret dungeon. I haven’t taken her life yet.”
The black-robed man immediately slapped the woman and laughed unnervingly. “Do you know what Xi Mengjiao did?”
The woman shook like a sieve. “This… this subordinate does not know.”
The black-robed man sneered. “She sent a message to Yu Yan saying that Mo Zhao is the problem. Now, Yu Yuan and the others will surely investigate to find Xi Mengjiao. If they happen to find out where the real Mo Zhao is locked up, then you—the fake Mo Zhao—”
He let out a cold snort. “You had better hurry and figure out how to escape.”
As he spoke, a spiritual pressure heavily descended, crushing the woman’s back until she was flat on the ground.
The woman cried out, “Master, this subordinate knows she was wrong. It was this subordinate who ruined the Master’s great plan. Please punish me!”
Originally, the black-robed man had intended for her to replace Mo Zhao’s identity, seize the Mo Residence’s assets, and bring Changyu Lin under his control.
But now, all their plans had been disrupted because she failed to properly dispose of Xi Mengjiao.
Her mind was in chaos, and she trembled even more violently.
Fortunately, the black-robed man merely glanced at her and didn’t continue the topic. He sat down again, changing the subject. “I set a trap for Yu Yuan just now, but she didn’t fall for it.”
The black-robed man remembered how he had deliberately released his aura for a long time, yet Yu Yuan acted as if she hadn’t noticed anything. The corner of his mouth couldn’t help but curve up slightly.
This Young Sect Master is slightly smarter than he anticipated.
The woman in gold had her face to the ground and couldn’t see the expression beneath the black-robed man’s hood.
So, she subconsciously assumed the black-robed man was regretting his missed opportunity. She immediately volunteered, “Don’t worry, Master. This subordinate will arrange things immediately. I absolutely will not waste the people Master went to the trouble of hiring.”
The black-robed man narrowed his eyes. “You won’t waste them?”
He smiled. “You better hope you succeed.”
