After Rebirth, My Archrival Omega Looks at Me Differently - Chapter 26
Chi Yan stared at her phone for a moment before quickly typing back.
[I know. I was there.]
Zhong Yi’s next message came almost instantly.
[What? You were with her? What happened? Is she alright now?]
Chi Yan lowered her phone slightly and glanced toward the breakfast table where Yan Youqing was calmly pouring soy milk into two cups. She looked quiet and well, as if nothing serious had happened the day before.
Chi Yan lifted her phone again and typed slowly.
[She’s fine now. It got bad for a while, but I helped her get to the hospital.]
Zhong Yi’s reply came with a pause.
[I heard the school is already investigating Xu Minxue. Some people said he might be suspended or even expelled.]
Chi Yan was not surprised. After speaking to the lawyer yesterday and giving her full statement, she had already expected this outcome.
She quickly replied.
[That’s the school’s decision. I don’t care what happens to him.]
There was another moment of silence before Zhong Yi sent her final message.
[Anyway, you’re okay, right? Just don’t disappear without saying anything. I was worried.]
Chi Yan’s heart softened.
[I’m fine. I’ll see you tomorrow.]
She locked her phone and looked up just as Yan Youqing placed a bowl of warm porridge in front of her seat.
Without saying a word, the girl returned to her own spot and began eating in quiet, steady movements.
Chi Yan stood for a moment, then finally walked over and sat down.
The bowl in front of her was still steaming. The smell of freshly made food mixed with the early morning light made everything feel peaceful and steady.
She picked up the spoon and took a bite.
It was hot and mild, exactly what her empty stomach needed.
She glanced across the table at Yan Youqing, who was eating without looking up. Her expression was calm and focused, as always.
Chi Yan took another bite, then slowly said, “You really didn’t have to get breakfast for me.”
Yan Youqing did not lift her eyes. Her voice was quiet but firm.
“You didn’t have to stay last night either.”
The two sentences hung in the air for a moment. Chi Yan stared at her, then lowered her eyes and smiled faintly.
It was a quiet morning, full of light, warm food, and the kind of silence that no longer felt awkward.
She did not say thank you. She just kept eating.
And Yan Youqing didn’t expect her to.
Chi Yan suddenly felt tense. The last thing she wanted was for anyone to find out she had helped Yan Youqing.
They were supposed to be rivals. If word got out, people might start speculating all kinds of things.
Especially since she still had to deal with Wang Chun-ning, who had almost betrayed her just to go off and support some fantasy couple pairing.
[How did you find out?] Chi Yan typed.
Zhong Yi responded right away.
[You really don’t check the forums, do you? The school’s forum exploded early this morning.]
[No one knows exactly what kind of background Yan Youqing has, but just after midnight, the ABO system updated. Xu Minxue’s file got tagged with a yellow alert and a warning. That’s serious. With that mark, he’s basically done for. His future is ruined.]
[I passed by the disciplinary office earlier and heard someone crying and yelling inside. I’m pretty sure your lovely aunt was in there putting on a show.]
Chi Yan read Zhong Yi’s rapid messages, and her eyes took on a thoughtful look.
The events of her past life seemed to be overlapping with the present. In her previous life, Xu Minxue had also received a yellow warning. This time, it just happened earlier.
Maybe it was what he deserved.
A lack of proper family upbringing always found a way to make you pay, often in the harshest and most irreversible ways.
Just as she was thinking about that, Zhong Yi sent another message.
[By the way, didn’t you go back to the classroom yesterday? Did you run into Yan Youqing at all?]
Chi Yan immediately tensed again. She glanced sideways at Yan Youqing, who was quietly eating her breakfast next to her, and quickly typed back.
[No, of course not. Why would I run into her?]
Zhong Yi didn’t question it.
[That makes sense. I doubt Xu Minxue would dare mess with her in our classroom. He wouldn’t be that bold.]
Chi Yan saw the message and realized that no one at school seemed to know how Yan Youqing had been rescued. She decided to test the waters.
[Do you know where it happened or who helped her?]
As expected, Zhong Yi replied,
[Who knows? After school yesterday, all the surveillance footage was taken by Yan Youqing’s family lawyer. No one had a chance to check it. Anyway, her family is rich, and she has a driver. Probably the driver couldn’t find her and came in to get her.]
Reading that, Chi Yan finally relaxed a little.
[Yeah, that sounds about right.] she replied.
Zhong Yi sounded satisfied.
[Right? I thought so too.]
Then she suddenly seemed to remember something and quickly sent another message.
[Ah Yan, you didn’t get dragged into all this, did you?]
Chi Yan was going to reply [No], but when she remembered how late she woke up this morning, she hesitated and changed it.
[Kind of. Things got a little chaotic at home last night. I didn’t sleep well.]
Zhong Yi asked,
[Did you at least get permission from the head teacher?]
Chi Yan read the message and paused. She turned to look at Yan Youqing and asked quietly, “Um… Did you ask our homeroom teacher for leave?”
Yan Youqing didn’t look up. “I did.”
Chi Yan immediately smiled. “Wow, didn’t expect you to be this reliable.”
The morning sunlight was a bit too bright, falling across her face like a spotlight.
Yan Youqing felt her heart skip a beat, just slightly. She didn’t say anything more and simply lowered her head to take another spoonful of porridge.
She hid her reaction well. Chi Yan didn’t notice any change in her expression. She picked up her phone and typed back to Zhong Yi.
[Got it covered.]
Zhong Yi sounded relieved.
[Good. You have no idea how many people were worried about you this morning.]
Chi Yan replied with a bit of doubt.
[That sounds kind of fake.]
Zhong Yi insisted.
[Chi Yan, please remember your current status as an S-rank Alpha.]
[Right after morning study, I had several Omegas from our class ask me where you were. Even some from the class next door. It was emotionally damaging.]
She followed that with a dramatic sticker of a sad cartoon collapsing into despair. Chi Yan couldn’t help but laugh.
She was about to respond when she noticed her bowl of porridge being gently pushed toward her.
Yan Youqing didn’t show much expression, but her voice was calm as she reminded her, “If you don’t eat soon, it’ll get cold.”
Chi Yan realized that playing on her phone at the table probably wasn’t polite, so she quickly nodded. “Oh, okay.”
Before she put her phone down, she sent one last message to Zhong Yi.
[Focus on studying, or I’ll report you.]
Yan Youqing watched the entire scene quietly. From the moment Chi Yan sat down until she finally put her phone away, she observed everything. Then she asked in a calm tone, “Are you very busy?”
“Not really,” Chi Yan answered, then paused for a second.
She looked at the girl sitting across from her and, for some reason, felt the sudden urge to show off.
“It’s just that I didn’t come to school today, and apparently a lot of people were worried about me.”
With that, she leaned on her elbow, resting her chin on her hand, and looked at Yan Youqing with an exaggerated smile.
“You know, being an S-rank Alpha means all the Omegas in class are lining up just to check on me. The line probably stretches from our classroom door all the way to here.”
