After Rebirth, I Became My Ex's "White Moonlight" - Chapter 6
The director stormed over; his face flushed with anger. Usually, he left everyone with the impression of being easygoing and generous, but this outburst—combined with him occasionally rubbing his disheveled hair—made him look like an infuriated mother hen. He wasn’t particularly intimidating; in fact, he looked somewhat ridiculous.
Yet, no one present dared to let out a laugh.
“You all finish drinking your milk tea before we resume filming. Where is mine? If there isn’t one for me, bring Shan Xiyuan’s over for me to drink. Seriously, this is infuriating!”
Everyone looked in the direction the director had come from and sure enough, they saw Shan Xiyuan flipping through his script with a look of extreme displeasure.
Turning back, Zhao Xixi belatedly handed a cup of milk tea to the director. He didn’t bother asking whose it was; he took it, poked in the straw, and began to gulp it down.
The afternoon passed quickly. Ji Yun and Cheng Siyu possessed high compatibility; their scenes were all completed in a single take, and within a day, they had finished most of their shared scenes.
Only Cheng Siyu knew that it wasn’t a matter of high compatibility; it was simply that she already understood Ji Yun well enough that she was habitually accustomed to coordinating with her many small movements.
Still, there were several times when she nearly lost her composure in front of Ji Yun. She kept feeling the habitual urge to step forward and hug her tightly or to take the hand Ji Yun reached out. Fortunately, she managed to cover it up every time.
“Let me treat you to a meal, consider it thanks for the milk tea.”
As Cheng Siyu was preparing to pack her things and return to the dormitory, Ji Yun took the initiative to walk over to her side.
“No… no need, the screenwriter treated us to the tea,” Cheng Siyu replied, not expecting Ji Yun’s sudden invitation and resorting to a casual lie to decline. “I already made plans to eat with Mo Xu.”
“That’s perfect then. The three of us can go together. She shouldn’t mind.”
Since things had reached this point, Cheng Siyu couldn’t refuse again. She could only convince herself that this would be the last time. Looking at the hand Ji Yun extended toward her, she thought: Let me indulge myself just one last time.
During the meal, Cheng Siyu had been afraid of awkwardness, but she soon realized that with Shen Moxu present, things would never be awkward regardless of how cold a person might be. Shen Moxu could always find common ground and quickly discover topics to keep the conversation warm.
“The owner of this shop is a friend of my mother’s. Order whatever you like,” Ji Yun said, holding the menu.
As Cheng Siyu looked at this restaurant and its environment, she felt a sense of familiarity mixed with strangeness.
It was here that Ji Yun had first confessed her feelings to her. At that time, having been suddenly asked out, she was still somewhat dazed until Ji Yun suddenly reached out to place a necklace around her neck and whispered into her ear.
“Siyu, let’s be together.”
In that moment, Cheng Siyu felt a mix of touched emotion and confusion. The tears at the corners of her eyes were indistinguishable between joy and sentiment, but Ji Yun had used her slender fingers to wipe the tears away one by one. Even now, Cheng Siyu could remember the sensation of Ji Yun’s fingers rubbing against the skin of her face.
“Hey, Siyu, what are you thinking about? It’s your turn to order,” Shen Moxu’s words pulled Cheng Siyu out of her memories.
“Oh, oh, I’ll just have the beef bolognese pasta,” Cheng Siyu blurted out subconsciously.
In her previous life, when Ji Yun first brought her to this restaurant, she had only ever seen this dish on television and couldn’t understand the other items on the menu. As time went on, she became accustomed to it and didn’t want to change.
“Have you been here before?” Ji Yun asked with a hint of suspicion, seeing how skillfully Cheng Siyu ordered.
Hearing Ji Yun’s words, Cheng Siyu told a lie. “I came here once with my family before.”
“Oh, I see. I was going to give you some recommendations if you hadn’t eaten here before,” Ji Yun said, smacking her lips slightly.
“Oh, come on, you can still give recommendations even if she’s been here. Besides, I haven’t been here yet. Siyu, you’re not being fair—you’ve been to such a high-end restaurant and never told me.”
“I just… didn’t get the chance,” Cheng Siyu said quietly.
At this time, Ji Yun finished ordering as well, quietly observing the interaction between the two people across from her.
“Oh right, how was filming at the set today? I heard Shan Xiyuan was replaced and they’re looking for someone new,” Shen Moxu asked curiously during the wait for the food.
At the mention of this, Cheng Siyu clearly felt Ji Yun’s expression darken.
“He was acting like a big shot on set and was kicked out by the director,” Cheng Siyu took the initiative to break the deadlock.
“I knew it. A person like him, who is trash to the core except for his looks, couldn’t possibly film properly.”
Shen Moxu seemed to know Shan Xiyuan inside out. “Oh right, Xiao Ji, you should be careful too. He isn’t a good person. Even when looking for a boyfriend, you need to keep your eyes open.”
“Thank you, Senior. Actually… I like girls.”
When these words were spoken, Shen Moxu was momentarily startled, but Cheng Siyu showed no reaction. At this point in time, Ji Yun wasn’t yet a legendary figure in the school, but later on, Ji Yun’s sexual orientation would cease to be a secret, circulating across all the school’s gossip walls.
Seeing Cheng Siyu’s calm reaction, Ji Yun felt a flicker of disappointment in her heart.
“Ahem, you still have to be careful even if you like girls. It would be bad if you ran into some major jerk,” Shen Moxu paused, then continued without reservation.
“Like you, for example,” Cheng Siyu interjected. Sure enough, the next second she received a playful smack from Shen Moxu.
“Nonsense! I am clearly keeping myself pure for when I meet my goddess.”
“Do you follow celebrities, Senior?”
The rest of the time passed with Ji Yun and Shen Moxu chatting about topics related to being a fan.
“Siyu-jie’s habits don’t seem like those of someone who has only been here twice.”
As the meal was nearly over, Ji Yun suddenly spoke up. Cheng Siyu’s dining habits, the way she held her cutlery, and the placement of her napkin were all as practiced as if she had done them hundreds of times.
Hearing Ji Yun’s words, Cheng Siyu only gave a faint smile. In her previous life, Ji Yun had never neglected her in terms of food, clothing, or lifestyle; they had even visited five-star restaurants countless times. Her habits had been forged through date after date with Ji Yun.
“Siyu, where are you going after dinner?”
“I’ll… go back to the dorm,” Cheng Siyu thought for a few seconds before deciding.
“Why do you go back to the dorm so early every day? There’s a department gathering tonight, do you want to come along?” Shen Moxu said, then tugged at Ji Yun. “Xiao Ji, you should come too. It’s all familiar faces.”
Fifteen minutes later, the unable-to-resist Cheng Siyu was dragged by Shen Moxu to a large-scale entertainment KTV.
Looking at the noisy and chaotic environment, Cheng Siyu felt a bit of a headache. Ever since Ji Yun had mentioned that she didn’t like her coming home from a KTV smelling like other people, she had never set foot in one again.
But Shen Moxu and Ji Yun acted as if they were coming home, leading her familiar path into the elevator and pressing the floor button.
“Xiao Ji, this isn’t your first time here, is it?” Shen Moxu asked.
“No, I’ve been here a few times with friends before,” Ji Yun did not deny it. Cheng Siyu knew that in their social circle, if you hadn’t been to entertainment venues a few times, you weren’t considered part of the upper class.
“It’s Siyu’s first time, though,” Shen Moxu glanced at the uneasy Cheng Siyu.
“Really?” Ji Yun was somewhat surprised.
“Yes.” Her first time in this life. It was only after her eyes were opened by Shen Moxu and Ji Yun during college that Cheng Siyu realized university was about more than just attending classes and being an extra.
“Hey, Senior, you’re here!”
Unsurprisingly, Cheng Siyu saw many familiar faces in the private room. There were seniors and even some young instructors. As soon as she entered, the smell of cigarettes mixed with alcohol wafted toward her.
Having not smelled this scent for a long time, Cheng Siyu felt a bit uncomfortable, but before she could show it, she was pulled down onto the sofa by Shen Moxu.
“Sister Xu, you’re late today. You have to take a penalty drink first.”
Shen Moxu seemed very well-acquainted with these people. As soon as she sat down, a junior student familiarly poured her a glass of wine, which she took and drained in one gulp.
“Siyu, what a rare guest!” At this time, a senior girl noticed Cheng Siyu sitting next to Shen Moxu and poured her a glass of wine as well.
“It seems like I never see you anywhere except in the classroom during the day.”
“I don’t go out very often, haha.”
Under the catalyst of alcohol, everyone became somewhat excited. Cheng Siyu knew she couldn’t avoid the first glass, so she took it and poured it into her mouth in small sips.
She wasn’t used to drinking. Even in her previous life with Ji Yun, it was limited to just a light sip; Ji Yun had often teased her for not understanding romance because of it.
Everyone was an acquaintance, so they were soon chatting freely. At this point, someone suggested that Ji Yun sing a song, as Ji Yun was quite a famous amateur singer within their circle.
In her previous life, Cheng Siyu also loved listening to Ji Yun sing. She always felt that Ji Yun’s voice was very moving, easily piercing through to the most vulnerable part of one’s heart.
Under the prodding of several people, Ji Yun took the microphone and selected a popular, catchy love song that everyone knew.
The beautiful singing voice drifted into Cheng Siyu’s ears. Watching Ji Yun from a distance, many emotions welled up in Cheng Siyu’s heart. She began to pour wine into her own glass.
She no longer cared about her limit; she wanted to numb herself. Even at this moment, she found that her mind was still entirely filled with Ji Yun’s figure.
She reminded herself once again: The last time. It can only be the last time. She let herself go, allowing the alcohol to erode her mind and her stomach.
By the time Ji Yun finished her song, Cheng Siyu’s consciousness was already somewhat blurred, with only the ceiling lights keeping her aware.
“Ji Yun.”
Ji Yun’s appearance surfaced in Cheng Siyu’s mind again—the way she leaned against her side and spoke promises to her.
“I love this side of you so much. What should I do? I feel like I can’t leave you anymore,” Ji Yun’s captivating voice seemed to appear in her ear again.
“Is Siyu-jie drunk?”
After singing, Ji Yun came over to grab a slice of fruit and took the opportunity to sit beside Shen Moxu and Cheng Siyu.
“Probably,” Shen Moxu reached out and waved her hand in front of Cheng Siyu, but Cheng Siyu’s consciousness had become indistinct. “It’s fine, we can just shake her awake when it’s time to go back.”
“Oh, okay,” Ji Yun replied, but she seemed to sense Cheng Siyu murmuring something. She leaned in to listen and heard her own name.
Her heart skipped a beat. She slowly spoke, asking, “Are you calling me?”
In the next second, the blurry-eyed Cheng Siyu suddenly moved closer to her. A moist, soft sensation instantly traveled from her lips. In an instant, the surrounding air seemed to freeze, and only the sound of Cheng Siyu’s breathing could be heard.
“Mmph.”
This kiss lasted for over ten seconds. Ji Yun felt like she was about to lose her breath, but Cheng Siyu was reluctant to let go. Just this once, she thought, let me follow my heart one last time.
