After Rebirth, I Became My Ex's "White Moonlight" - Chapter 31.2: Traces Left Behind
During the wait, Ji Yun’s gaze lingered on Cheng Siyu’s neck. Seeing that the mark she left yesterday had not yet disappeared, her mood brightened significantly.
“Siyu, how has filming been lately? Met anyone? These days I only see news about you on the trending searches.”
As soon as they sat down, Shen Moxu began her familiar chatter. Cheng Siyu was long used to it and answered each question one by one.
“It’s alright. No one. The trending searches aren’t based on real news.” At this point, Cheng Siyu asked back, “How has your life as a production assistant been lately?”
“Very happy! I’ve even seen a lot of handsome guys…” Shen Moxu stopped mid-sentence, stealing a glance at Qin Xiangqing. Qin Xiangqing just coughed twice, and she lowered her voice. “No, I haven’t seen any handsome guys.”
Cheng Siyu never thought she’d see the day Shen Moxu would be intimidated. She couldn’t help but feel that love really could change a person.
Meanwhile, Ji Yun looked at the two sitting opposite her and then at Cheng Siyu. She felt that she and Cheng Siyu didn’t seem like a real couple; it felt as though there was still something separating them, but she couldn’t quite grasp it.
“I’ve ordered these for now; order more if you want something else.” After the waiter left, Qin Xiangqing placed the menu back on the table.
The atmosphere at the table was quiet for a while. Qin Xiangqing’s phone rang; she picked it up and walked out.
It was then that Cheng Siyu noticed the jacket she was wearing was the same style as Shen Moxu’s, just with different colors and pocket placements—they were essentially wearing a variation of a couple’s outfit.
“Do you only plan on being an assistant? No plans to act anymore?”
After confirming Qin Xiangqing was far away, Cheng Siyu looked at Shen Moxu and asked.
“Not necessarily, it’s just that she doesn’t like me going to act. Besides, as an assistant now, she pays me, the work is light, and I get to gain experience. There’s nothing bad about it.”
Hearing this, Cheng Siyu pondered for a few minutes before finally saying, “I feel like once you have a few works under your belt, you’ll feel more comfortable in the relationship.”
In her previous life, she had given up everything for Ji Yun, only to realize it was all one-sided. Ji Yun only liked her because of her resemblance to Ji Yan; in the end, she had gained nothing.
“Stop worrying about me. I know what kind of person she is. Besides, even if we really break up and I have no career, don’t I still have my sister to rely on?”
“Mhm.” Cheng Siyu didn’t try to persuade her further. It was true. However, she recalled the lonely Shen Moxu from her previous life and felt something wasn’t quite right. Furthermore, her personality was prone to suffering losses in this industry.
“And let me tell you, during these few days on set, I’ve gotten quite a few celebrity signatures.”
Shen Moxu continued talking to herself, while Cheng Siyu merely gave perfunctory responses, eventually deciding not to think too much about it.
“Oh right, Siyu, you and Little Ji have such a good relationship, have you done… that?”
Shen Moxu suddenly changed the subject. Cheng Siyu knew what she was talking about and chose to remain silent. Ji Yun, however, nodded subtly.
“Seriously? Siyu, this person who lives in the last century?” Shen Moxu leaned close to Ji Yun’s ear, and the two whispered together.
“No way?”
While the two were chatting happily, Qin Xiangqing opened the door and walked in.
“Sorry, I ran into an acquaintance and chatted for a bit.”
After she entered, the food arrived quickly. At the table, Shen Moxu would occasionally turn to chat with Qin Xiangqing or ask Ji Yun a few questions. Cheng Siyu just ate in silence, taking small bites.
“Do you guys want to drink?”
Midway through the meal, Qin Xiangqing suddenly suggested it. Shen Moxu and Ji Yun both indicated they would.
“I won’t drink. I have to film tomorrow.” Only Cheng Siyu used an excuse to decline.
However, as the meal neared its end, Shen Moxu—the first to agree—was already passed out drunk, and Ji Yun’s face showed she was completely intoxicated as well.
Cheng Siyu had planned to say goodbye to Qin Xiangqing and Shen Moxu and then call a taxi to take the two back.
Yet, upon walking out the door, she saw a familiar car.
“Siyu?” It was Jiang Shizi. “Are you going back to the hotel? Me too. It’s on the way; I’ll give you a lift.”
“Thanks.”
In the end, Cheng Siyu got into Jiang Shizi’s car. Meanwhile, Ji Yun, who had always viewed Jiang Shizi as a romantic rival, was already leaning against Cheng Siyu, fast asleep.
“Were you here for dinner too?” Cheng Siyu asked.
“Mhm, I used to come here often when I was a student.” Jiang Shizi then remembered something and asked, “Did you come with Qin Xiangqing?”
“Mhm,” Cheng Siyu answered casually. “She’s my best friend’s girlfriend. Do you know her?”
“College classmates,” Jiang Shizi replied, then glanced at Cheng Siyu through the rearview mirror. “Is that best friend of yours surnamed Shen?”
“How did you know?” Cheng Siyu turned her gaze toward Jiang Shizi.
“Just a guess.” Jiang Shizi seemed to understand something, then cautioned Cheng Siyu, “Tell your friend to be careful.”
“Is something wrong with her?”
Cheng Siyu asked back, confused. But then she remembered—the “acquaintance” Qin Xiangqing mentioned meeting earlier might have been Jiang Shizi.
Jiang Shizi opened her mouth as if wanting to say something, but in the end, she only said, “Just act like I didn’t say anything.”
When the car reached the hotel, Jiang Shizi suddenly asked Cheng Siyu, “She didn’t make things difficult for you, did she?”
Cheng Siyu searched her memory for a long time before realizing she was talking about Qi Yan. By the time she wanted to answer, Jiang Shizi had already disappeared.
In the elevator, Cheng Siyu was trying to find Ji Yun’s room card on her person when her hand was caught.
“I like you so much,” Ji Yun murmured. Cheng Siyu turned a deaf ear, shook off her hand, and continued searching.
“But you don’t seem to like me.”
Hearing this, Cheng Siyu froze and looked up at Ji Yun. At this moment, her gaze was focused clearly on Cheng Siyu; just like on ordinary days, her eyes held a spark of light.
“I have loved, just not now.” Cheng Siyu reached out to wipe a tear from the corner of her eye, and Ji Yun immediately closed her eyes and fell back asleep.
Finally, Cheng Siyu found the room card in Ji Yun’s inner pocket and brought her back to her room.
Upon entering, Cheng Siyu saw the glowing music box on Ji Yun’s bedside table was spinning.
She helped the sleeping Ji Yun onto the bed. Fortunately, she was no longer the naive, ignorant Cheng Siyu of her previous life; she wouldn’t soften her heart just because of a few pleas.
Cheng Siyu finally closed the door to Ji Yun’s room and walked out.
Just then, her phone buzzed. She clicked on WeChat to see a message from Xi You.
The content was: “The moonlight is beautiful tonight, and the wind is gentle,” accompanied by a selfie of her under the moonlight.
Cheng Siyu knew that this sentence coming from Xi You’s WeChat carried the subtext: “You’re beautiful, I want to sleep with you.”
She casually typed back, “It is quite nice.”
“I have another program to film. Any interest in being my invited guest?”
With the phone’s vibration, another paragraph came through. Cheng Siyu happened to reach her own room and closed the door.
“Conditions?” Cheng Siyu typed two words and sent them back, then lay down on the sofa. She knew Xi You and Ji Yun were the same type of person—one couldn’t get emotionally involved—but if she just wanted to have some fun, she was a good candidate.
Then, Cheng Siyu’s phone buzzed again. She picked it up to see Xi You’s reply: “If you don’t want things to move too fast, we can start with a date.”
Cheng Siyu hesitated for a few seconds. In her mind’s eye, she could already see Xi You’s eyebrow-raising expression. She reached out and typed a few words: “One condition: don’t let my girlfriend find out.”
“Of course,” Xi You replied, getting exactly what she wanted. After those two words, she added another sentence: “Who is your girlfriend? Jiang Shizi?”
Cheng Siyu smiled and replied, “No.”
“I knew it. Her heart is still tied to Qi Yan.”
“You know each other?”
“We know each other. We used to play together back in the day, but I haven’t seen her since she started dating Qi Yan.”
The word “play” was quite suggestive. Cheng Siyu understood what it meant. “It’s late, I’m going to sleep.”
“See you tomorrow.”
The next day, upon arriving at the set, Cheng Siyu discovered that the usually punctual Jiang Shizi had uncharacteristically failed to show up, and hadn’t even requested leave from the director.
With no other choice, Cheng Siyu had to first film scenes with Ji Yun and Su Mingshu that didn’t include Jiang Shizi.
After one scene, Li Yexing reminded Cheng Siyu to check the trending searches. However, this trending topic wasn’t about Jiang Shizi; it was about Qi Yan’s husband, He Jinnian.
The trending report stated that last night he had taken two beauties to a themed hotel for a tryst and was caught red-handed by the media lying in wait.
In the topic threads, Qi Yan’s fans were all accusing him of having such a lovely daughter and wife at home yet still going out to seek excitement.
Cheng Siyu wasn’t someone who enjoyed gossiping about others, so she put her phone away.
At that moment, Ji Yun sat down beside her. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, she leaned her head on Cheng Siyu’s shoulder and whispered, “My head hurts.”
“You drank so much with Shen Moxu yesterday,” Cheng Siyu replied.
“Wasn’t that because you were there?” After Ji Yun finished speaking, she tugged Cheng Siyu’s collar down slightly. The bite mark had faded into just a faint trace.
“Someone’s coming.” Cheng Siyu pulled her arm back and moved over a bit before Li Yexing sat down behind her.
Lin Zhizhi also returned then, sitting down next to Cheng Siyu.
“Siyu-jie, how was it with your boyfriend last night? I heard S-City center is a dating hotspot; did you go?”
“Mhm… no.” Cheng Siyu remained silent for a long time. This was overheard by Ji Yun next to her, who leaned in and asked, “Siyu-jie has a boyfriend?”
Lin Zhizhi couldn’t quite react to Ji Yun’s sudden interjection, but she still replied decisively, “Yes! Xixi-jie said so. Apparently, they’ve been dating for quite a while, but he’s always been very mysterious. Siyu-jie hasn’t even shown us a single photo.”
Cheng Siyu paused. Her so-called “boyfriend” was sitting right there beside them. Finally, she stood up on the pretext of needing the bathroom to avoid Lin Zhizhi’s questioning.
However, as she came out of the restroom, she ran right into Xi You.
“I was just looking for you.” Xi You pulled a bracelet out of her bag. Before Cheng Siyu could react, the bracelet was already tied around her wrist.
“Look, my intuition was right. This bracelet was tailor-made for you.”
After saying this, Xi You—just like last time—placed a kiss on Cheng Siyu’s fair arm. The difference was that this time, Cheng Siyu didn’t pull away.
