After Rebirth, I Became My Ex's "White Moonlight" - Chapter 27.2
“Young lady, next time don’t let your friend drink so much. Two girls out so late isn’t very safe.”
The driver was a kind-looking uncle in his forties or fifties. Seeing them like this, he kindly offered a word of advice.
“Okay.” Cheng Siyu paid the fare and, limping slightly, helped Ji Yun into the elevator.
This scene had happened countless times, but this time, many things were different.
Cheng Siyu struggled to bring Ji Yun to her room and tossed her onto the bed, then collapsed into a lounge chair herself.
Looking at Ji Yun on the bed, it was only now that she seemed to realize what she had done.
She still couldn’t leave her abandoned. Cheng Siyu smiled ironically.
If loving Ji Yun was a disease, then Cheng Siyu was likely beyond cure.
Let it be, she thought. She no longer concerned herself with Ji Yun, yet despite this, there were too many emotions in her heart that she couldn’t resolve.
In a daze, she recalled the first time she saw her. Back then, she had been late for an event, but at that moment, she caught sight of Ji Yun sitting on stage playing the piano.
When she appeared, and the stage lights gathered on her, everything around her seemed to pale in comparison.
At that moment, Cheng Siyu couldn’t even notice Shen Moxu calling her.
With one piano piece on that stage, she won everyone’s applause and cheers—and she won ten years of Cheng Siyu’s life.
When did her heart start beating for Ji Yun?
A film crew came to the school to recruit. Cheng Siyu was again late and missed out, eventually having to work as a crew hand.
“Siyu, it’s okay. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future,” Shen Moxu comforted her. Cheng Siyu said nothing, only giving a muffled “mm.”
The next moment, Shen Moxu went to talk to the screenwriter about the script, leaving Cheng Siyu standing there alone.
“Siyu, go to the prop room and push that large cart over from the floor.” The senior’s voice broke her silence.
“Okay,” Cheng Siyu replied, moving toward the prop room.
She felt somewhat miserable. Since she was a child, it seemed that all good opportunities evaded her. Even when she and Cheng Hanyi liked the same pair of shoes, her stepmother would only tell her they didn’t have the money and would buy them next time.
The next day, she would see Cheng Hanyi happily showing off her newly bought shoes.
Perhaps, she was never someone with a fighting spirit; her personality was one of submissive acceptance.
“Siyu, right?”
As Cheng Siyu was accepting the hand fate dealt her, a clear, gentle voice brought her back.
She turned around and saw the girl she had seen playing the piano on the school’s anniversary. Cheng Siyu had thought the two would never meet again.
Now, she had changed into simple clothes, but although they were simple, the image of her shining on that stage seemed to have been engraved into Cheng Siyu’s soul long ago.
“Yes.”
Cheng Siyu answered a beat late.
“Here, this is the milk tea I bought for the crew. This one is yours.”
Having said that, Ji Yun handed the milk tea to Cheng Siyu. She froze in place, everything feeling like a dream.
She had once thought that she and someone of Ji Yun’s social class would never have any intersection.
“Tha—thank you.”
“Maybe we could be friends.”
Back then, her perception was too dull; she didn’t notice that in the way Ji Yun looked at her, there was someone else hidden.
“So hot.”
At that moment, Ji Yun’s voice interrupted Cheng Siyu’s memories. Cheng Siyu turned her head and saw that a flush had appeared on Ji Yun’s face at some point.
An ominous thought surged in her mind. Cheng Siyu stood up, wanting to check Ji Yun’s condition, only to be suddenly grabbed and hugged by her as she sat up.
“Siyu, I’m so hot.”
Hearing her own name, Cheng Siyu’s heart trembled. She asked once more, “Who am I?”
“Cheng Siyu. My Siyu.”
Ji Yun’s voice entered her ears again. Cheng Siyu felt the empty place in her heart finally being filled.
Like a child who had begged for a long time finally receiving their favorite toy.
Finally, the string named “reason” tightened and snapped.
“Ji Yun, this is the last time I will love you.”
The next day, Cheng Siyu startled awake from a dream, but at that moment, she felt the warmth of the person beside her. She was dazed for a moment, and memories came rushing back.
“Siyu.” Ji Yun beside her let out a muffled groan, as if displeased by her sudden sitting up.
Cheng Siyu looked at her, then glanced at the tissues scattered on the floor and the shredded clothing.
She had ultimately helped Ji Yun, but long-lost emotions and possessiveness had finally collapsed. Ji Yun’s body was covered in the marks she had left.
In the past, Ji Yun never allowed her to leave even a single mark on her body.
“A substitute is just a substitute.”
Perhaps in her eyes, she was just a tool for venting, only receiving a few points of preferential treatment because she resembled Ji Yan.
When she first tried to kiss Ji Yun in bed, Ji Yun had suddenly snapped awake and coldly told her to get lost.
And now, looking at the Ji Yun who had become her tool, Cheng Siyu suddenly laughed out loud, though tears also fell.
Finally, she had done something for herself once. Then, her gaze turned cold.
This should also be the last time.
Ji Yun beside her didn’t notice the change; she just shifted her position to hug Cheng Siyu’s waist, rubbing her nose against her waist as if to bind her that way.
Cheng Siyu broke free from her grasp, got up, and picked up her phone from the bedside. There were several missed calls and a few messages.
She sent a message to Ji Wanli’s assistant saying she had found the person, then checked WeChat.
Today’s filming location had been borrowed by another crew, and since there was still no news from Ji Yun, work was suspended for the day.
Seeing this, Cheng Siyu breathed a sigh of relief, then stood up to go to the bathroom to wash. One moment of irrationality was enough; furthermore, although the current Ji Yun was clean, Cheng Siyu, possessing the memories of her past life, still inevitably felt she was dirty.
Bringing her back from the bar yesterday could be considered a way to repay her for being the beam of light that once lit up her previous life—even if she later personally crushed that life to pieces.
Just as Cheng Siyu filled the tub with water, she heard her phone ring. She tapped it; it was Jiang Shizi.
“I have nothing to do today. Want to grab breakfast together in a bit?”
Cheng Siyu thought for three seconds and sent back: “Okay.”
Afterward, she and Jiang Shizi agreed on a time. She slowly stepped into the bathtub. As the warm water gradually submerged her body, she felt like a dying person being washed back onto the shore, gaining a moment’s reprieve.
Thirty minutes later, there was a knock at the door. It was Jiang Shizi. Cheng Siyu had changed her clothes and walked out without a hint of hesitation—just as Ji Yun had abandoned her before, without pause.
“You’re in a good state today,” Jiang Shizi remarked. Previously, Cheng Siyu always seemed to carry a sort of melancholy; today, it was rare to see her brow unfrowned, with a hint of a smile on her lips.
“You too. Probably because we aren’t being rushed by the director to film,” Cheng Siyu replied, following her lead. She also felt that starting from today, many things seemed to have cleared up.
The two then went to the parking lot. Jiang Shizi said she wanted to treat her to a coffee shop where the bread was delicious, as a way to repay her for helping with the acting last time.
In the car, Cheng Siyu spent a long time looking at her phone and found that the heat surrounding Jiang Shizi had quickly passed; no one cared about her anymore. Perhaps because she was already alone, having terminated her contract with the company. Or perhaps because of Qi Yan’s intentional suppression.
But Cheng Siyu still couldn’t perceive any emotions from Jiang Shizi’s eyes.
The car gradually moved away from the city center, reaching the nearby suburbs, then drove through the suburbs to an affluent area lined with villas.
Cheng Siyu just watched quietly, not asking any questions. In her heart, she felt that Jiang Shizi wasn’t as scandalous as others said; instead, she was very much like herself.
“We’re here.”
The car stopped at the entrance of the villa district. Cheng Siyu saw a coffee shop standing on the street corner, like a lighthouse at sea.
The staff in the shop seemed very familiar with Jiang Shizi; they all greeted her when they saw her.
The two took a seat by the window. The shop’s windows were one-way glass; the people inside could see everything outside, while those outside could only see a mirror.
Jiang Shizi told the staff to bring the usual, then handed the menu to Cheng Siyu. Cheng Siyu took a look and ordered the signature coffee and bread.
During this time, Cheng Siyu noticed that Jiang Shizi occasionally looked at the clock on the wall, as if waiting for something.
However, Cheng Siyu didn’t ask for details; instead, she looked at her phone. Images of Ji Yun still popped into her mind occasionally, but she just told herself: leave after venting. Isn’t that exactly what Ji Yun did to her in the previous life?
When the clock on the wall chimed, Jiang Shizi’s gaze turned toward the window. Only then did Cheng Siyu notice two figures, one tall and one short, gradually approaching.
It was Qi Yan and that little sprout. Cheng Siyu remembered Ji Yun once telling her the little sprout’s name was, He Wuyou.
Looking out the window, Jiang Shizi’s eyes gradually softened, but there was also a hint of despondent sadness.
“Since you like her, why not try again?”
