After Rebirth, I Became My Ex's "White Moonlight" - Chapter 15
“I’m not afraid. What is there to fear?”
Cheng Siyu looked at Ji Yun with eyes full of determination, as if she were deeply in love. In her previous life, Ji Yun had said those exact words to her.
In reality, it was nothing more than a beautiful cloak Ji Yun used to hide the twisted obsession buried deep within her heart.
“Mm… I’m not afraid either,” Ji Yun murmured. She reached out, pretending to wipe a grease stain off Cheng Siyu’s face, but instead, she pressed a gentle kiss against her cheek.
The kiss seemed tainted with Ji Yun’s unique scent. Cheng Siyu drifted into a daze for a long moment before finally snapping back to reality.
“Do you have anything to do this morning?”
“I have to go to the company to shoot a magazine cover,” Cheng Siyu answered honestly.
“I’ll drive you. It just so happens I’m free this afternoon.”
“Cheng Siyu!”
Just as the two were sinking into a strange, ambiguous atmosphere, Shen Moxu walked over. She scanned them both with an expression as if she had caught them in the act of an affair.
“Cough, cough.” Ji Yun lowered her head, looking somewhat embarrassed, while the expression on Cheng Siyu’s face didn’t change in the slightest.
“Speak! When did this happen? Weren’t you two avoiding each other before?” Shen Moxu sat down unceremoniously.
“We only got together yesterday,” Cheng Siyu said. She then placed the menu in front of Shen Moxu and added, “My treat today.”
Only then did Shen Moxu’s anger subside slightly as she began looking at the menu.
“You mentioned yesterday that your older sister was coming? When?” Cheng Siyu quickly steered the conversation toward another topic to prevent Shen Moxu from pestering them about her relationship with Ji Yun.
“Next week, probably. She said she’s coming to stay for a few days.”
Cheng Siyu had only met Shen Zhinian once, about a year or two ago. However, the woman had left a good impression on her; in her previous life, Shen Zhinian eventually became a well-known female entrepreneur.
“Coming back to the point—when did you two get together?” Shen Moxu’s focus suddenly shifted back to Ji Yun, who was sitting quietly to the side.
For the next few minutes, Cheng Siyu briefly recounted the process of how they got together. Shen Moxu ate while sighing with emotion, “The girl is grown and cannot be kept at home.”
After finishing breakfast, Ji Yun had to leave first because she had a morning class. Before departing, she made a lunch date with Cheng Siyu. Meanwhile, Shen Moxu and Cheng Siyu had nothing to do all morning, so they decided to sit a while longer.
“Siyu, are you serious?”
Not long after Ji Yun left, Shen Moxu suddenly spoke up. Cheng Siyu replied without a second thought, “Of course.”
“I just feel that little Ji is innocent. Don’t go breaking her heart.”
Hearing this, Cheng Siyu couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. Ji Yun, innocent? The scenes of her previous life flashed before her eyes one after another; the image of Ji Yun in bed with another woman was still fresh in her memory.
Ji Yun was indeed innocent—but only the Ji Yun of this lifetime.
“Even you’re in a relationship now. I want to find someone too,” Shen Moxu sighed, looking out the window at the small groups of couples walking by hand-in-hand.
“Is President Shen actually worried about not finding a partner?” Cheng Siyu teased.
“Of course. I must find a handsome, powerful guy,” Shen Moxu mused. “Or a sophisticated, elegant beauty like my goddess would be fine, too.”
“It’s good to be young,” Cheng Siyu remarked as she watched Shen Moxu lost in her fantasies about the future. She had once fantasized like that too, but when she finally encountered her “ideal,” she didn’t just lose her heart—she lost herself entirely.
“You’re only two months older than me. You start one relationship and suddenly you aren’t young anymore?” Shen Moxu gave Cheng Siyu a playful nudge and then added, “Though, I do feel like you’ve aged quite a bit recently.”
“I call that being mature.”
“Ow!” The poked Shen Moxu let out a cry of pain.
…
After breakfast, Cheng Siyu went to browse a nearby clothing store. She felt it was time to buy herself some new clothes.
In her previous life, all of Cheng Siyu’s clothes had been gifts from Ji Yun, who claimed they were high-end luxury brands customized specifically for her. At first, she had been filled with joy, but later she discovered they were simply clothes Ji Yun bought for her to mimic the fashion style of her “White Moonlight” (first love).
At that time, even after finding out, she hadn’t dared to confront Ji Yun. Even though she was sensitive enough to sense that Ji Yun was constantly peering through her eyes to catch a glimpse of someone else’s shadow.
Looking at the brands and styles she now knew by heart, Cheng Siyu suppressed her revulsion and chose several pieces to buy. For some reason, a sense of vengeful pleasure welled up in her heart.
She was suddenly looking forward to seeing the expression on this lifetime’s Ji Yun when she saw her dressed so similarly to that person.
The morning passed quickly. After dressing herself up, Cheng Siyu arrived at the restaurant she had booked with Ji Yun. After standing at the entrance for a moment, Ji Yun arrived as scheduled.
However, the moment Ji Yun saw her, a flicker of hesitation and doubt appeared in her eyes. Cheng Siyu skillfully caught the look but feigned ignorance. With the corners of her mouth curling slightly, she asked Ji Yun:
“Do I look good today?”
“You look good,” Ji Yun answered, her reaction a beat slow, but her gaze remained fixed on Cheng Siyu’s clothes.
Cheng Siyu acted as if she hadn’t noticed and went straight to take her hand, saying, “Let’s go inside.”
Vaguely, she felt the hand she was holding stiffen for a few seconds before it gripped her back a little tighter.
During lunch, both of them simultaneously received a message from the film crew. It was an invitation for all the lead actors to participate in a variety show to promote the movie.
The director also mentioned in the group chat that he would be attending as well, effectively marking the final chapter of his professional career.
“Are you going?” After listening to the director’s long-winded and emotional voice message, Ji Yun looked at Cheng Siyu and asked.
Cheng Siyu met her gaze and was dazed for a split second. She then retracted her emotions and said in a gentle tone, “If you go, I’ll go.”
She added with a smile, “It’s fine for people close to us to know about our relationship, but in front of the screen, we should just be good friends.”
She remembered that once upon a time, Ji Yun had said the exact same thing to her. The tone hadn’t been this gentle back then, but she had agreed nonetheless.
Right now, Cheng Siyu’s eyes were bright as she looked at Ji Yun, as if they held the stars. However, she knew it was merely the light reflecting off the tears that were gradually flooding her eyes.
“Okay.”
After finishing their meal, Ji Yun led Cheng Siyu to her new car in the parking lot.
“My new car. Does it look good?”
Ji Yun’s new car didn’t look as eye-catching or dazzling as Shen Moxu’s; it was a low-profile silver-gray. However, Cheng Siyu recognized at a glance that it was the latest model from a certain luxury brand.
“When did you buy this?” Cheng Siyu asked.
“I thought Shen Moxu’s car looked really nice before, and I just happened to get my driver’s license recently, so I went and bought it. You’re the first to know.”
As Ji Yun spoke, she personally opened the passenger door for Cheng Siyu. Looking at Ji Yun like this felt strange to Cheng Siyu, and a sense of discomfort rose within her.
But in order not to give herself away, she got in anyway.
