After My Flash Marriage with the Sick Beauty, I Reached the Pinnacle of My Life - Chapter 67
Moving for Treatment
“Sister,” Zheng He felt so guilty he didn’t know what to say. “I’ve called you sister. Can we not talk about this?”
Unexpectedly, Wei Xixue was surprisingly accommodating and didn’t press the matter further.
“We can modify the drug dosage,” Wei Xixue circled a section on the paper, reminding Zheng He.
Based on Wen Jiao’s current test reports, the treatment approach could be more aggressive. There was no longer any concern about whether the patient’s body could withstand it. Whether she could recover depended on this attempt.
After drawing the circle, Wei Xixue’s brows slightly furrowed.
Zheng He also began to look troubled: “I’m not worried about whether Wen Jiao can endure it, but Dr. Wei, this plan is still a bit demanding for us.”
Even if Grandpa Wen moved various medical instruments into the house, creating a small private hospital in the manor, it still couldn’t compare to a formal, large hospital.
Wei Xixue was accustomed to the standards of her own hospital, but that was a top institution in the field. The treatment plan she proposed was currently beyond the Wen family’s capacity to implement.
Not only that, but Wei Xixue’s time at the manor was limited; she would be leaving in a few days. Based on Zheng He’s experience, the plan she left behind could not be perfectly executed.
In other words, this might be the best possible plan for Wen Jiao, but it would require considerable compromises.
The moment Wei Xixue’s brow furrowed, she looked at Zheng He. The solution was simple: move the patient to the hospital.
It would merely involve a few hours of flying and changing the location of treatment. As long as it offered a cure, Grandpa Wen would agree.
Wei Xixue looked into Zheng He’s eyes, then lowered her gaze to the diagnosis report: “I will personally speak with Mr. Wen about this. You should prepare the patient first.”
Zheng He nodded, realizing this was the only way.
When Xia Shishi returned, Zheng He was in Wen Jiao’s room.
They were talking, much like the day of the engagement ceremony when Wen Jiao suddenly felt unwell and Zheng He rushed her to the emergency room.
Wen Jiao had her back to Xia Shishi, so her expression was hidden.
She didn’t answer, making it difficult for Xia Shishi to understand the situation, so she hesitated to interrupt.
Xia Shishi could only stand quietly by the door and listen.
Zheng He saw Xia Shishi but didn’t acknowledge her. What he had to say was extremely important: “You’ve already resigned now, so you don’t have work concerns. It’s just moving to another city to continue treatment.”
Move to another city?
Xia Shishi grasped the key point. She looked at Wen Jiao, calculated the timing of Wei Xixue’s departure, and vaguely guessed what was happening.
If it was beneficial for Wen Jiao’s health, then she should go.
It sounded like Wen Jiao didn’t want to agree?
Xia Shishi pursed her lips. With Wen Jiao’s excellent hearing, how could she not have noticed her entering? But Wen Jiao hadn’t turned around, seeming lost in thought.
The matter must be very important to Wen Jiao, prompting Zheng He’s anxious persuasion.
They all hoped Wen Jiao’s body could recover.
This might be the best opportunity.
Zheng He grew anxious: “Before, when I asked you if you wanted to move for treatment, you said you had things to do. What things? Cleaning up the mess your father left behind, or following Xia Shishi around, afraid she would be bullied? You couldn’t let go then, but what do you have to let go of now?”
Zheng He stared intently at Wen Jiao. He had known Wen Jiao for too long; he knew more about the past than Xia Shishi did.
Wen Jiao spoke softly: “I can’t let go of my fiancée.”
Zheng He: “…”
Wen Jiao was not afraid of hardship.
Through so many treatments, what painful regimen hadn’t she endured? Wen Jiao had silently persevered.
Zheng He sometimes admired her. He knew Wen Jiao was thinking about the unfinished project in her hands, that Xia Shishi was going out tomorrow, and she worried Xia Shishi might be bullied again.
She thought about tomorrow, and so she opened her eyes once more.
This was the driving force behind Wen Jiao’s persistence, but it was also what gave Zheng He a headache.
Because the company headquarters was here, she didn’t want to change cities. Because Xia Shishi was here, she definitely didn’t want to change cities.
Now, Wen Jiao had resigned, Xia Shishi had changed her mind, and Wei Xixue had called it the most promising plan. Zheng He couldn’t think of any reason for Wen Jiao to disagree.
Yet, she said she couldn’t let go of her fiancée.
Was it possible that Xia Shishi wouldn’t go with her? Just look at her, she was like a shadow.
Wen Jiao said, “Shishi is starting school next month. I’ll definitely have to come back then.”
She couldn’t bear the days without seeing Shishi.
She didn’t know when, but Xia Shishi had become her sun for tomorrow.
One month was certainly not enough time to recover.
Interrupting the treatment would be even more troublesome.
So Wen Jiao didn’t want to agree, but she also wanted to get better and see the different ending Xia Shishi spoke of.
That’s why Wen Jiao was lost in thought, the first time she hadn’t noticed the changes around her.
Xia Shishi heard everything clearly at the door, and watched Zheng He grow exasperated and helpless. Zheng He looked helplessly at Xia Shishi: “You tell her, Fiancée.”
Wen Jiao turned around, finally seeing that Xia Shishi had returned: “Weren’t you at the film set?”
Xia Shishi forced a smile: “I said I was coming back to be a kept woman.”
If she hadn’t come back early, she might not have overheard this. If she had missed it, Xia Shishi would have regretted it for the rest of her life.
“I can take a leave of absence from school,” Xia Shishi said seriously. “Believe me, I really can take a year off. I can always continue my studies next year. I’ll go with you this year.”
Xia Shishi’s eyes were slightly red. Though she looked soft on the outside, she was extremely tenacious at heart. She gazed into Wen Jiao’s eyes, determined to send her off.
“I even sold out Ye Murou to pay for your treatment,” Xia Shishi said with a laugh, but tears welled up.
Zheng He coughed violently, waving his hand, wishing he hadn’t heard that.
“If I don’t go with you, won’t Ye Murou look down on me? I absolutely won’t allow that.”
Xia Shishi wiped away her tears.
She cried too easily, especially in front of Wen Jiao.
Wen Jiao withdrew the hand she had intended to reach out.
She sighed softly.
“You don’t have to do this, Shishi,” Wen Jiao interrupted Xia Shishi. “You don’t need to go with me. Don’t you want to inherit your family’s company? You’ve worked so hard for the family business.”
Xia Shishi choked up.
Wen Jiao looked at Xia Shishi with a complicated expression: “You love researching skincare products and want to create the best products to make everyone more beautiful. You’ve been busy for the group’s reputation, even carefully paying attention to every employee.”
Xia Shishi: “You…”
How did Wen Jiao know?
In the previous life, it would have been normal for Wen Jiao to know, as she had been secretly paying attention to her all along.
But since returning, she had spent most of her time by Wen Jiao’s side. When she thought about or worked on these things, she was usually just holding her phone and not acting seriously.
Yet Wen Jiao still noticed this?
Wen Jiao smiled: “Didn’t you always say I was smart?”
Zheng He curled his lip, thinking to himself that Wen Jiao’s long-term private investigator must have made a fortune this month.
Xia Shishi understood Wen Jiao’s thoughts.
She could have graduated earlier and inherited the family company sooner, transforming from the eldest daughter of the Xia family into the group’s successor.
In Wen Jiao’s view, this was the perfect ending for Xia Shishi.
As long as Xia Shishi was doing well, that was all that mattered—a belief Wen Jiao had held for years.
But Xia Shishi didn’t understand.
“Without you by my side, I am not doing well,” Xia Shishi took a deep breath.
The events of the previous life were vivid in her memory. If not for Wen Jiao serving as her strength after rebirth, she wouldn’t be doing this so determinedly.
She was devastated after being betrayed by Qi Xue and fell into an abyss after being schemed against by Zhou Xiaojiang.
She was never an overly active person to begin with.
“You don’t need to only think about what’s best for me,” Xia Shishi said earnestly. “This is my decision, and I have decided to stay by your side.”
Wen Jiao’s eyes deepened, her mood becoming even more complex, accompanied by a small flicker of delight.
That’s great, she’s decided to stay.
She won’t leave.
Wen Jiao curved her lips, looking gently at Xia Shishi.
Since they had decided to move the treatment to another hospital, it was best to start preparations immediately.
When Grandpa Wen found out, he looked a little downcast, and then began thinking about whether he should bring her game console along.
Upon learning that Wen Jiao’s treatment might be successful this time, even Wen Jiao’s father and mother specially returned to the manor, their faces beaming with unconcealed joy.
Aunts and uncles also came back.
Everyone carried their own intentions as they congratulated Wen Jiao, acting as if she had already recovered.
Someone looked at Xia Shishi: “She really is a little lucky star! No wonder your parents spoil you like this; I would too.”
Once they put it that way, it did seem true.
The Xia Group had also risen suddenly in the last twenty years, and Xia Shishi just happened to be twenty this year. Wen Jiao had always been in poor health, and everyone thought her days were numbered. After her engagement to Xia Shishi, however, her health improved day by day, and now there was a chance for a complete recovery.
Thinking this, their eyes on Xia Shishi changed, whether genuine or not, their tone became much warmer.
However, apart from Wen Jiao’s father, not all the siblings were genuinely happy about Wen Jiao’s move for treatment.
Everyone knew that the Old Man was most pleased with Wen Jiao among the younger generation. If not for Wen Jiao’s poor health, she would have been named the successor long ago.
They had finally managed to establish their own footing while Wen Jiao was away from the company, only to hear this “bad news.” It was a struggle for them to come over smiling.
Grandpa Wen sighed: “They truly are the children I raised.”
Their minds were too sharp.
If thrown into the sea, they could even scoop up all the fish fry.
Xia Shishi couldn’t be bothered to deal with them. Lucky star? If they had read the original book’s plot, they would probably be avoiding her like a plague.
She wanted to sneak away but was stopped by Grandpa Wen. Xia Shishi understood Grandpa Wen’s intention: even for Wen Jiao’s sake, she had to play along.
Raised as an only child and pampered by her parents, this was the first time Xia Shishi learned to swallow her pride. Only after these people had nothing left to say did Grandpa Wen finally speak: “Shishi, have you talked to your parents about this?”
Xia Shishi quickly replied: “Not yet, Grandpa.”
Grandpa Wen: “This is such a big matter, you must tell them. Go now.”
And so, Xia Shishi was able to escape the family dinner. She thought things were much better now, at least they didn’t live together.
Xia Shishi walked to a quiet spot, but didn’t make the call immediately.
She felt a little irritated and wanted to wait a bit longer.
She had come out to find some peace and quiet, and after her mood calmed down, she realized someone was already hiding there.
It was Wei Xixue.
As the key doctor in the whole process, she had completely isolated herself, ignoring what the people inside were saying. She was just standing there, smoking, looking at the moonlight, lost in thought.
Wei Xixue had only planned to stay for a week. Now that they decided to move the treatment to her hospital, she was suddenly idle for the remaining days.
No one criticized her; after all, she genuinely wanted Wen Jiao to get better.
Xia Shishi was still embarrassed about the “honey trap” incident. She wanted to sneak away before being noticed, but Wei Xixue called out to her.
