After My Flash Marriage with the Sick Beauty, I Reached the Pinnacle of My Life - Chapter 53
Ye Murou still didn’t know she was being thought of; she was diligently focused on her studies.
Unlike Xia Shishi, whose goal was clear from a young age, Ye Murou was a transfer. To work in the R&D department, she had to spend her off-hours studying just to barely keep up.
When Xia Shishi called, she was still reading.
Upon answering the phone, Ye Murou thought Xia Shishi was calling to ask about Ji Yan and was about to answer when she heard Xia Shishi ask, “Do you have a girlfriend?”
Ye Murou: “?”
She hadn’t even been in a relationship; where would she get a girlfriend?
She felt her time was better spent on studying.
Falling in love would dull her edge.
Ye Murou turned to the next page and rubbed her eyes; the sheer amount of text gave her a headache.
How had Xia Shishi, who was only just starting university, managed to memorize so much content and be qualified for the R&D department? Ye Murou respected her immensely, which further solidified her decision not to date.
“I want to introduce you to someone,” Xia Shishi said.
Arranging a job and a partner.
She couldn’t understand the hobbies of the rich.
Ye Murou hesitated to refuse: “I don’t have time, and besides…”
Xia Shishi’s deep breath traveled through the phone. It sounded like she had made a great decision: “Do me a favor! Even if it doesn’t work out, it’s fine. You’re the only one I know!”
Her words were so mournful that Ye Murou didn’t know how to refuse.
But she still needed to monitor the movements of her R&D colleagues and take time to study; she truly didn’t have the time.
Yet, this was Xia Shishi’s request.
Xia Shishi had given her so much; it was just a small favor, even if she didn’t understand what it was about. Ye Murou closed her book. She would just think of it as a blind date.
It was just one meeting; if it didn’t work out, there was nothing she could do.
“Alright then.”
As soon as Ye Murou agreed, Xia Shishi immediately told Zheng He the news.
Zheng He was also clearly looking forward to it: “I really hope Wei Xixue likes your friend.”
Xia Shishi stared intently at Zheng He, feeling a sense of guilt for being complicit.
“When should we arrange for them to meet?” His wife was more important; if he had to commit a crime, so be it.
“According to the appointment time, it’ll be next week. Let’s set the location at the Old Man’s house,” Zheng He laid out the situation.
Their plan was very simple: they hoped Wei Xixue would fall in love with Ye Murou at first sight and voluntarily stay. With her here, Wen Jiao’s legs would definitely have a chance to walk again!
If even Wei Xixue couldn’t do it, then it would likely be difficult.
Neither of them wanted to think about that possibility; they were more concerned with how to ensure Ye Murou’s “entrapment” was successful.
Truly, it felt so sinful.
In the early morning, Wen Jiao pushed her wheelchair out of the room.
She happened to run into Mother Xia passing by outside. Mother Xia paused, seemingly surprised that Wen Jiao was up so early.
And Wen Jiao was alone in the room; did she get up by herself?
Mother Xia suppressed the questions in her heart and greeted her with a smile: “Good morning. I’m about to go check the garden. Would you like to join me?”
Wen Jiao lowered her gaze.
She had deliberately come out after hearing Mother Xia’s footsteps pass by.
She nodded at Mother Xia’s invitation.
Mother Xia was a kind and gentle mother, very patient. She treated Wen Jiao just as she treated Xia Shishi—with equal consideration.
The two headed to the garden.
The temperature in the garden was perfect in the early morning, and there were fresh dew drops on the plants. Stepping inside, the air smelled wonderful.
Mother Xia recalled something and shared a memory of Xia Shishi’s childhood with Wen Jiao: “She insisted on planting all of these when she was little.”
The array of flowers and trees indicated how many times Xia Shishi must have insisted.
In Mother Xia’s eyes, there was only the lament that time flew by so quickly. Wen Jiao watched silently. She had never seen her mother display such an expression at home, so it felt unfamiliar.
Her parents only hoped she would live longer, and longer still.
But not for her sake, but for the sake of the profit at hand.
Wen Jiao had never cared much about any of it. Her life space was so small anyway. If these were the only things she could do, then she would do them.
Perhaps no one expected that Wen Jiao would one day actively resign.
Everyone probably assumed now that she was on the verge of death and was forced to step down.
In the midst of this silence, Mother Xia had finished checking the growth of all the plants. After confirming everything was fine, she prepared to go to the company.
She didn’t rush off but stayed to talk a little longer with Wen Jiao: “In the blink of an eye, Shishi has grown up. Although I’m very reluctant, if it’s you, my husband and I are very relieved.”
No one could accept their daughter marrying a person in poor health without a reason.
The same was true for Father and Mother Xia.
The reason they agreed was entirely based on Wen Jiao’s every action, which they observed firsthand.
She genuinely liked Shishi.
“Shishi has changed a lot since the engagement banquet,” Mother Xia smiled, attributing her daughter’s complete maturation to Wen Jiao.
Wen Jiao’s eyes flickered slightly. She leaned forward and tentatively asked a question: “Did Shishi go out the night before the engagement banquet?”
Mother Xia was puzzled, then looked a little embarrassed: “She was making a fuss very late that day. Then she got tired and just went back to her room to sleep. She didn’t go out.”
Speaking of this, Mother Xia was also a little puzzled.
In just one night, Xia Shishi suddenly seemed to have come to her senses.
But coming to her senses was a good thing. Mother Xia didn’t want to bring up Xia Shishi’s previous violent opposition, fearing it would affect their relationship: “Alas, we confidently let Qi Xue stay with Shishi, who knew someone was pulling strings behind the scenes.”
Thinking that Qi Xue was threatened and bribed by Fu Yunhan.
Then it was highly likely that they were also responsible for Qi Xue secretly slandering Wen Jiao in the past.
Mother Xia’s fist immediately tightened.
The two families had at least ten years of friendship. Why couldn’t they be direct? What were they trying to achieve with such underhanded actions?
Wen Jiao’s gaze held understanding. She comforted Mother Xia a few times and then watched her leave for the company.
She didn’t go out?
So, how exactly did Xia Shishi discover the clue?
She turned her head to look at the building behind her, looked up at the room on the second floor, and finally turned her wheelchair around without a word and went back inside.
Xia Shishi came downstairs yawning.
The Qi Xue matter was completely resolved. Next, all she had to do was drive out the mole in the company, and that would be the end of it. Then she would have plenty of time to be close to Wen Jiao.
Thinking of this, Xia Shishi’s heart became restless.
When would they get married?
She didn’t want to wait until school started, then wait for the holidays to get married.
“Darling~” Xia Shishi ran with small steps to sit next to Wen Jiao, starting with, “We should get married now~”
Breakfast was bread and a fried egg, with bacon, lettuce, and salad dressing on the side.
Wen Jiao slowly and methodically placed a sandwich next to Xia Shishi: “No rush.”
Xia Shishi was instantly stunned, wondering if she had misheard.
It was “no rush,” not “I’m in a hurry, so let’s go get our marriage certificate today.”
How could those two words come out of Wen Jiao’s mouth?!
“You don’t like me anymore!” Xia Shishi cried out immediately.
She couldn’t figure out where the problem was. Clearly, Wen Jiao still loved her so much, had prepared her breakfast, and was so considerate with her actions.
The only thing left before they were completely together was marriage. After marriage, no matter what happened, they would face it together.
Why was Wen Jiao suddenly “not in a rush”?
Did something happen?
Company matters? Health issues? All of those could be solved!
Xia Shishi sat down with wide eyes, looking at the person next to her. Grievance and unwillingness welled up: “Woman, I shouldn’t have been so nice to you, making you think you could have me whenever you wanted! From now on, I’m not talking to you!”
Wen Jiao was the one who pursued her before. She had only just reciprocated, and now Wen Jiao was playing hard to get!
She had been too lenient!
After venting, Xia Shishi didn’t get the response she had imagined.
It was then that she panicked. Her eyes became watery, and she looked at Wen Jiao with confusion: “Say something.”
Wen Jiao seemed to have calmed down from the relationship. Her current actions showed none of the indulgence towards Xia Shishi or the underlying restlessness that used to be present.
Wen Jiao gestured for Xia Shishi to eat first: “I need to think carefully.”
“Think about what?” Xia Shishi no longer had her usual arrogance, only a slight panic, which was growing infinitely.
“Wife, are you feeling unwell?” Xia Shishi’s clenched hand tightened.
That was the only reason she could think of.
Someone as reserved as Wen Jiao might very likely go into a tailspin because of some discomfort, believing she couldn’t continue to walk the path with her.
Xia Shishi urgently said, “Didn’t we hire a doctor? After she examines you, you’ll get better.”
Wen Jiao closed her eyes and didn’t speak.
This made Xia Shishi anxious.
She couldn’t think of any other reason, and Wen Jiao wasn’t willing to explain to her. The sudden coldness felt worse than falling into an ice cellar. Xia Shishi kept internally reviewing where she had gone wrong, feeling so stressed she didn’t even want to go to work.
She followed closely behind Wen Jiao, wanting to figure things out.
After finishing breakfast, Wen Jiao headed toward her room. Seeing Xia Shishi about to follow, she simply reminded her, “You should go to the company.”
Xia Shishi stood rooted to the spot.
Her eyes were fixed on Wen Jiao, looking even more pitiful than before. After a long moment of deadlock, Xia Shishi finally nodded: “Then we’ll talk when I get back.”
Xia Shishi arrived at the company listlessly.
She was about to walk toward the R&D department when she remembered she had chosen to leave the department because of the Qi Xue incident.
Xia Shishi suddenly stopped, turned, and walked toward the elevator, going straight to Father Xia’s office.
Unfortunately, there was someone else in the office.
It was Fang Yingcai.
Father Xia was very happy to see Fang Yingcai and temporarily couldn’t attend to Xia Shishi, only asking her to sit down and wait. Fang Yingcai smiled and nodded at Xia Shishi, then praised her to Father Xia: “Your daughter is quite impressive.”
In Father Xia’s eyes, his daughter had always been excellent: “Of course.”
Following that statement, Father Xia then asked Xia Shishi, “Why did you come to see me today?”
Xia Shishi was still trying to manage her emotions.
She was very annoyed right now.
She had always felt that Wen Jiao was her emotional salvation, and she enjoyed revolving around Wen Jiao. But it seemed, perhaps unknowingly, this feeling had become uncontrollable.
She had only just gotten close to Wen Jiao and couldn’t bear this sudden change.
If she weren’t constantly reminding herself of her original plan, Xia Shishi would have been so upset that she’d want to go back and wail in front of Wen Jiao.
Xia Shishi pouted: “There’s no position for me in the R&D department anymore.”
“What?” Father Xia was confused.
The Xia Group would belong to Xia Shishi in the future; how could there be no position for her?
Fang Yingcai laughed heartily: “I thought you already knew. Actually, I came today hoping to shamelessly ask you to build another R&D department for us old guys to retire in, and then let us mentor your daughter.”
Upon hearing this, Father Xia was immediately delighted.
He hadn’t wanted this group of old friends to leave the R&D department in the first place, and building another one was no big deal. He felt comfortable handing his daughter over to them.
But why did Fang Yingcai suddenly change his mind for no reason?
Father Xia looked at Xia Shishi.
He remembered Xia Shishi asking him about Fang Yingcai and the others’ preferences, saying she wanted to pay them a visit. So, did Xia Shishi persuade them to come back?
Father Xia felt a surge of pride, feeling that his daughter had matured significantly. In the past, he couldn’t have imagined it.
Wen Jiao was truly good. Since his daughter was with her, she had improved so much.
Father Xia attributed all the credit to Wen Jiao. He was overjoyed: “That’s nothing, I’ll have someone handle it right away. But you all have to be mindful. I still remember how you used to not come home for days to develop products, causing your wives to come to me to complain. I don’t want my daughter to be like you.”
Fang Yingcai recalled the way Xia Shishi spoke about her wife in front of him.
It was truly sickeningly sweet.
Listening to their conversation, Xia Shishi suddenly wanted to seek their advice, so she asked: “Do you know why your wife would suddenly give you the silent treatment?”
Father Xia: “…”
Fang Yingcai: “…”
