After My Flash Marriage with the Sick Beauty, I Reached the Pinnacle of My Life - Chapter 47
“Shishi, let’s go eat.”
Wen Jiao told her not to overthink things.
“I can’t eat…” Xia Shishi lightly bit her lip, constantly worried that the reporter might release the footage.
This situation was different from her experience in her past life; she needed to spend more time figuring out how to handle it. It was no longer just a matter of gathering Qi Xue’s information to clear things up.
“Eat!” Wen Jiao, uncharacteristically, hardened her tone, then immediately softened it again: “You need to eat to have the strength to resolve the problem.”
She was right. Xia Shishi’s anxious heart calmed down: “Then let’s go home first…”
Wen Jiao: “Let’s eat out.”
Xia Shishi blinked.
Wen Jiao chuckled lightly: “We haven’t eaten out together yet, have we? What do you want to eat?”
Wen Jiao’s three meals a day were handled by a dedicated person; she had never been to an outside restaurant. Although she intended to arrange everything, she still asked for Xia Shishi’s suggestion.
It had been a long time since Xia Shishi felt this relaxed. Thinking along with Wen Jiao’s words, her mood brightened. Was this considered a date, especially since Wen Jiao initiated it? Maybe things weren’t so bad after all.
Xia Shishi thought seriously: “I remember a newly opened restaurant, that place…”
Wait.
That restaurant hadn’t opened yet. Luckily, Xia Shishi remembered in time, and she quickly hushed herself, feeling a little regretful at the same time.
She had heard the restaurant had an excellent reputation, and its interior design and tableware matched her taste. She had always wanted to go, but unfortunately, the Xia family went bankrupt shortly after, and she never got the chance.
After that, the opportunity was completely lost. She wondered if it would open later. If so, she’d take Wen Jiao there then.
“What about that restaurant?” Wen Jiao waited for a while but didn’t get the rest of the story.
“Nothing,” Xia Shishi snapped back to reality. “I suddenly thought of another place that is better suited for us.”
Soon, the driver returned. Wen Jiao didn’t blame him. After Xia Shishi provided the address, the driver drove them there.
They arrived at a private club.
Xia Shishi helped Wen Jiao out of the car, then pushed the wheelchair to the entrance: “The average person can’t find this place, so it’s very quiet. Also, it’s invitation-only. If you haven’t been invited by one of their VIP members, they won’t serve you.”
Wen Jiao rested her hand on her chin: “Quite the attitude.”
“Exactly.” Xia Shishi used to fall for this kind of exclusivity.
Hearing about the place, she specifically found someone to invite her, but the food there was indeed something special.
“I heard the owner’s ancestors were Imperial Chefs. Not only is the skill excellent, but the ingredients are meticulously selected.” When taking Wen Jiao out to eat, she definitely couldn’t go to an ordinary restaurant. If any health problems arose, no amount of compensation from the restaurant would be enough.
There was no such concern here. They customize the meal according to the guests’ dietary restrictions and preferences, so there’s no need to worry about what to order.
Wen Jiao had never tried it, but seeing Xia Shishi talk with such excitement, she grew more expectant.
“Two honored guests, please wait a moment.” The server respectfully bowed to them.
Both of them were long accustomed to such scenes, so their reactions were calm as they patiently waited for the server to arrange a private room.
However, after a while, the server returned with an apology: “All the private rooms have been fully booked. How about dining in the main hall? We can set up a screen to protect your privacy.”
They had arrived a bit late, so it wasn’t surprising that there were no private rooms available.
But Xia Shishi’s hand rested on Wen Jiao’s arm, and she pursed her lips, clearly unwilling, debating whether she should insist.
She worried that being too willful in front of Wen Jiao would make Wen Jiao dislike her.
Unexpectedly, Wen Jiao spoke first: “When will the soonest private room be available? We don’t mind waiting a little longer.”
Xia Shishi looked eagerly at Wen Jiao, seemingly conveying with her eyes: You also think eating in the main hall isn’t good, right?
Wen Jiao actually didn’t mind eating in the main hall; she just noticed Xia Shishi’s reluctance. Waiting a bit longer was no trouble.
Xia Shishi had originally intended to try and get someone to leave, but since Wen Jiao said that, she could only wait with her. The server arranged a waiting area for them and provided tea.
At this moment, Xia Shishi also asked, “There were other noises when I called you. Were you not at home then?”
“Mhm, I was at the company.” Wen Jiao had planned to tell Xia Shishi this today anyway, but then that incident happened. Xia Shishi really did have sharp ears.
Wen Jiao: “I went to the company today and held a board meeting to discuss the share transfer.”
Xia Shishi was shocked: “That fast? I thought you’d at least wait until you felt better… What did the board members say?”
Wen Jiao: “They agreed.”
Xia Shishi was still a bit incredulous, both about Wen Jiao’s speed and the board’s attitude.
“My father didn’t agree, but it was useless,” Wen Jiao didn’t hide anything.
“Also, I resigned from the position of Acting Director. Once I finish up my work for this period, I will stay home and recover.”
“That’s good.”
Xia Shishi breathed a sigh of relief. She secretly glanced at Wen Jiao, the corner of her mouth lifting: “Do you think the board members will consider me a femme fatale who has bewitched the boss?”
Wen Jiao: …What idiom are you misusing now?
Xia Shishi cupped her face: “I’m only your fiancée, yet I’m taking your shares and making you resign—if I were a wicked woman, I’d definitely make a move on you right now.”
Wen Jiao’s lowered eyes flickered slightly.
You actually can make a move now. Seriously.
“President Shi, look over there.”
Shi Cun had just walked out of her private room when her subordinate signaled her to look in another direction.
She thought it was a business partner. Shi Cun had been completely overwhelmed with worry about these matters recently.
The Wen Group had finally agreed to a discussion, but the person she met with was just a manager, and after several days of talks, they still refused, making Shi Cun furious enough to curse.
She had specifically scheduled a meeting with a new collaborator here today, but the outcome wasn’t great.
Shi Cun was in a depressed mood, and when reminded by her subordinate, she merely frowned and looked over. She then saw Wen Jiao.
“Should we go over?” the subordinate asked nervously.
The company’s current crisis could only be overcome if Wen Jiao agreed to help. Otherwise, other collaborators would just seize the opportunity to make more unreasonable demands.
However, Wen Jiao’s side had consistently refused, and Shi Cun had played the thankless role of the eager petitioner countless times. Should she go over this time?
Shi Cun took a deep breath: “Go over and try.”
It’s about making money; there’s no shame in it. If she could successfully negotiate, losing a little face was nothing.
Shi Cun had already mentally prepared for various compromises; in any case, they wouldn’t be more outrageous than the demands made by those old men. When she heard those demands, she had wanted to physically lash out.
Shi Cun approached with her subordinate. Because the private club’s atmosphere was quiet, making too loud a noise would draw unwanted attention, so Shi Cun softened her footsteps.
Just as she got close, intending to call out “Director Wen,” she heard Wen Jiao and Xia Shishi talking: “I resigned from the position of Acting Director.”
…If she resigned, what was there left to talk about?
Despair flashed in Shi Cun’s eyes. The deadline was rapidly approaching, and if they couldn’t secure investment, the company would be completely finished!
Now that her only hope was gone, what could she do?
Her subordinate also heard the sentence and realized Shi Cun was thinking the same thing. He sighed and asked, “Should we go talk to President Fu?”
Besides Wen Jiao, it seemed only Fu Yunhan had the substantial family wealth that could help them.
However, Shi Cun’s company had no business relation to the Fu family; even if they cooperated, there wasn’t much common ground. Why would the Fu family help them? That option was Shi Cun’s last resort. Now that Wen Jiao was out of the picture, it seemed Fu Yunhan was the only option left…
Shi Cun still felt unwilling to give up. Her feet remained planted where she stood. Was there any other opportunity? There had to be.
Why would Wen Jiao resign when she seemed fine? Was her health failing?
Xia Shishi: “Then after you resign, who will take that position?”
Shi Cun’s eyes suddenly lit up. Right! If Wen Jiao wasn’t doing it, others would want the job, and maybe they would be easier to negotiate with than Wen Jiao.
Wen Jiao: “I want my mother to stay in the country and let her be the Acting Director. But my aunt is also coveting this position, so it depends on whether my father is muddled or not.”
Xia Shishi scoffed: “If your aunt becomes the Acting Director, then the company won’t be worth much.” Wen Jiao: “Let’s wait and see.”
Shi Cun muttered to herself while hiding behind the potted plant: “Wen Jiao’s aunt… investigate her.”
Xia Shishi turned her head.
She thought she had heard something. When she looked back, she saw the leaves of the potted plant shaking slightly. She was a little worried it was a reporter.
Xia Shishi was about to go over and check, but the server came over at that moment: “Two honored guests, the private room has been cleaned. I will take you there now.”
Xia Shishi looked at Wen Jiao in the wheelchair and thought, Never mind. Reporter or not, she was out eating with her wife. Why should she be afraid of being photographed?
Entering the private room, the server meticulously recorded Wen Jiao’s dietary restrictions and preferences before leaving. Xia Shishi’s information was already on file, so no questions were needed.
It had been a long time since Xia Shishi had eaten here; although her transaction history showed she had visited last month, the moment the food entered her mouth, she still felt a sense of nostalgia.
Seeing her eat happily, Wen Jiao’s appetite also improved.
After finishing the meal, Xia Shishi was fully satisfied: “Wife, do you like this place? We should come often!”
Wen Jiao nodded. Her phone rang in her pocket: “I need to take this call first.”
Xia Shishi sat obediently in her seat, watching curiously as Wen Jiao answered, wondering who was calling. Was someone asking why they hadn’t returned home to eat yet? Why hadn’t she received a call?
“Alright, I understand.” Wen Jiao’s tone was particularly cold, sounding like she was discussing business. Her tightly furrowed brows showed her dissatisfaction.
After Wen Jiao hung up, Xia Shishi tentatively asked, “What was it?”
“My detective.”
Wen Jiao answered quickly, then remembered she had hired a detective to investigate Xia Shishi. Worried that Xia Shishi might realize it, Wen Jiao paused for a few seconds, but saw that Xia Shishi showed no other reaction.
Only then did she continue: “I had previously asked someone to investigate who Qi Xue had been in contact with. The detective ran into some temporary issues, and since I saw that you had already figured out who the person was, I didn’t push him to expedite the action.”
“On the way here, I told him to look for that reporter.”
“Did he find him?” Xia Shishi asked nervously.
“No, but he told me some things about Qi Xue.” Wen Jiao thought with a grave expression, “You should know about Qi Xue’s family background. The detective said he couldn’t get close to the Fu family, so he couldn’t find Qi Xue’s recent whereabouts. He only knows that Qi Xue rarely appears, so he switched his direction of investigation.”
Wen Jiao looked at Xia Shishi: “He went to Qi Xue’s home and discovered many suspicious people loitering near her house, and he was almost discovered himself.”
