After My Flash Marriage with the Sick Beauty, I Reached the Pinnacle of My Life - Chapter 3
The dress had been custom-made a long time ago.
A few days ago, Wen Jiao had specially sent someone to deliver it, expecting her to wear it to the engagement party.
The pink, off-the-shoulder gown suited Xia Shishi very well; she was already charming and lovely, and now the dress complemented her snow-white skin even more.
Around her elegant neck, she wore only a small pendant, which was inconsistent with her usual preference for large, expensive jewels.
This was intentional on Xia Shishi’s part.
Xia Shishi bit her lip, clutching the pendant at her chest, trying hard to suppress the surging emotions.
“I’ve come to find you.”
Xia Shishi’s nose stung, and her eyes were once again clouded with a thin film of tears.
The small pendant was a gift Wen Jiao had given her in the past. She’d disliked its appearance and had kept it in her jewelry box, never wearing it. Later, when the Xia family fell into decline, this pendant had gone missing.
Now, she would hold onto this necklace tightly, just as she was holding onto Wen Jiao.
Xia Shishi took a deep breath and, accompanied by her parents, rushed to the hotel.
Inside the villa, Qi Xue’s eyes gradually darkened.
The Engagement Party
In the lively and luxurious banquet hall, the lights were dazzling, and guests mingled, clinking glasses.
The dignitaries invited by Wen Jiao had gathered here, and Wen Jiao, who was unusually dressed in a white gown, sat in her wheelchair, her eyes repeatedly scanning the entrance.
The banquet had begun nearly an hour ago, and Xia Shishi still hadn’t arrived.
Zheng He, standing by the wheelchair, irritably raised his red wine glass: “I told you she wouldn’t come.”
Wen Jiao lowered her eyes and said nothing.
“You are a patient now. Instead of wasting this time, you should go back to the hospital for another checkup,” Zheng He was Wen Jiao’s private doctor, and they had been friends for over ten years.
Wen Jiao immediately finished his sentence: “And then return to the villa to recuperate, perhaps to live a few more years.”
Zheng He paused his drinking, saying listlessly, “I didn’t say that.”
Under the light, Wen Jiao’s extraordinarily beautiful and brilliant face looked even more translucent. Although she wore foundation, the pale color beneath her skin was still noticeable.
Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and her dark eyes seemed to be suppressing something.
“How boring that would be.”
Without Xia Shishi, living would be too boring.
Wen Jiao closed her eyes, her fingers tracing Xia Shishi’s vibrant face on the armrest of the wheelchair. Even just having the person by her side to cherish made her feel like life had gained some strength.
Wen Jiao’s voice was almost hoarse as she spoke: “There’s nothing else I want.” She only wanted Xia Shishi.
Zheng He found it hard to advise his friend. They were about the same age, but Zheng He had a healthy body.
Over the past twenty-plus years, he didn’t know how many people he had dated; any few years of his life were more interesting than Wen Jiao’s dull twenty-plus years.
It was rare that Wen Jiao had found someone she liked, but why did it have to be Xia Shishi? Zheng He felt utterly distraught.
Xia Shishi was absolutely not a good match for Wen Jiao. Wen Jiao’s current health required care, and Xia Shishi only caused trouble.
If they really got together, could Wen Jiao even live for two more years?
Zheng He tried his best to control the irritation in his heart, still insisting, “Xia Shishi won’t come, and even if she does, she’ll only—”
Xia Shishi arrived.
Wearing the pink small gown Wen Jiao had customized for her, her hair was elegantly pinned up, and she walked in from outside with her neck proudly held high.
Her arrival quieted the guests for a few minutes until Xia Shishi walked directly to Wen Jiao.
Zheng He still had the second half of his sentence unspoken: even if Xia Shishi came, with her spoiled temper, she would at most try to break off the engagement, throwing the engagement party into chaos and making everyone miserable!
However, in front of everyone, the proud little peacock pursed her lips, and in a deeply aggrieved voice, she said, “Wifey, I’m late. You’re not angry, are you?”
The crowd burst into an uproar.
Wen Jiao suddenly looked up, her eyes shining with a light like a blanket of flames, a temperature that could scorch everything.
She, too, looked at Xia Shishi in disbelief. She had expected she would have to cajole the young girl a bit, but she hadn’t expected her to be so cooperative.
Wen Jiao suddenly felt her throat go dry. She gripped the armrest of the wheelchair, staring intently at Xia Shishi. Xia Shishi seemed embarrassed by the gaze, a blush spreading across her cheeks.
“Don’t you like me calling you that? Then should I call you Jiao Jiao instead?” Like the bright moonlight, wandering through one’s heart.
Xia Shishi was like a different person, actually speaking softly and extending her little paw to playfully flirt with her.
Wen Jiao’s expression remained as calm as water, but internally, she began to panic, worried that this was another one of Xia Shishi’s schemes, and in the end, she would still leave her.
Nothing was more agonizing than getting something only to lose it again.
However, a faint tremor ran through Wen Jiao’s heart, which softened uncontrollably. She stared at Xia Shishi’s luscious, rose-petal lips, and was about to speak when someone abruptly dashed over.
Xia Shishi immediately showed a look of disgust.
It was Fu Yunhan.
The Interruption
What rotten luck, Xia Shishi cursed in her mind.
She and Wen Jiao had finally reunited, and before they could even exchange a few words, this person habitually came out to be an eyesore.
Xia Shishi’s expression was very displeased. Her reputation in the social circle had always been poor, known for being spoiled and having a terrible temper. Even with rejection written all over her face, Fu Yunhan acted blind and pretended not to see it.
“Shishi, don’t keep making Wen Jiao angry,” Fu Yunhan said the moment he approached, launching into a lecture.
“Heh.” Angry, so angry.
A cold laugh escaped Xia Shishi’s lips, and the temperature in her eyes dropped to freezing, especially when she looked at Zhou Xiaojiang behind Fu Yunhan!
She would never forget the hatred from her previous life.
The memory of having her legs broken and being humiliated by her would forever be rooted in her mind!
Speaking of which, should she even thank Zhou Xiaojiang? If it weren’t for her, she wouldn’t have experienced the despair and pain of not being able to move her legs.
Thinking of this, Xia Shishi looked at Wen Jiao’s legs with a distressed gaze. Wen Jiao’s spine stiffened, and she casually pretended to adjust her skirt, subtly hiding her legs.
Fu Yunhan was still waiting for Xia Shishi to throw a tantrum. After waiting for a long time, he realized that Xia Shishi was just looking at Wen Jiao.
That look was so tender it felt like silk threads were being pulled, thoroughly surprising Fu Yunhan.
Damn, could Xia Shishi be possessed by a female ghost?
Just as Fu Yunhan was feeling uncertain, his sleeve was tugged by Zhou Xiaojiang. Fu Yunhan then remembered the main business: “Even if you have someone else in your heart, you shouldn’t cause a scene at the engagement party! Our Fu family and your Xia family have been acquaintances for years. I’m only reminding you for the sake of your parents; even if you want to break off the engagement, it shouldn’t be now.”
Wen Jiao, sitting in the wheelchair, looked disappointed, as if to say, I knew it.
Xia Shishi wouldn’t like her. The flattering and coquettish behavior just now was only to cheer her up before leaving.
The surprised and knowing glances from the people around fell on Xia Shishi. She widened her eyes, her chest rising and falling rapidly, and then, like a lit firecracker, she instantly exploded!
“You’re talking nonsense!” Xia Shishi pointed at Fu Yunhan.
Fu Yunhan sternly said, “I told you not to cause trouble.”
“Don’t even think about destroying the relationship between me and Jiao Jiao! How dare a young punk try to ruin someone’s marriage, fabricating lies and not knowing right from wrong! Hurry up and take your little hanger-on and get as far away as possible,” Xia Shishi’s eyes were bloodshot with panic.
She was desperately afraid that Wen Jiao would be angry or sad because of this idiot’s words, and she herself was also triggered by Fu Yunhan’s statement.
Xia Shishi’s eyes were red, tears welled up, and she tightly grasped Wen Jiao’s hand: “Jiao Jiao is so good, she’s the best, the best in the whole world, and what the hell do you people know?”
