After My Engagement Was Broken, I Married My Fiancé's Uncle - Chapter 15
Seeing Huang Hao standing outside the elevator like a complete idiot, Jiang Xingyuan tilted his chin toward him.
“Aren’t we supposed to talk business?”
Huang Hao took a deep breath, his gaze sweeping over Jiang Xingyuan with a hint of wariness. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Jiang Xingyuan, but rather that this guy simply wasn’t…
A hand suddenly reached out, cutting off Huang Hao’s train of thought.
“What are you thinking about? Do you hate me that much? You’ve been staring me down,” Jiang Xingyuan said. The moment the elevator doors closed, he threw an arm around Huang Hao’s shoulder, acting like they were the best of buds.
Unlike Jiang Xingyuan’s warmth, Huang Hao was tense, his expression grim. He reached up to push the hand off his shoulder.
“Don’t be like that. Aren’t we good brothers?”
“If you don’t start talking, then I’m going to start asking questions,” Jiang Xingyuan said, watching Huang Hao’s suppressed expression with a playful smirk. “Let’s chat about your relationship with Ms. Bai Wei…”
Huang Hao’s face changed instantly. He gritted his teeth and spoke rapidly, “Shut up! I’ll tell you!”
“I got word that the Omega you’re arranged to marry is at the Nightingale Club.”
Jiang Xingyuan asked, “Who?”
Seeing Jiang Xingyuan’s blank expression, Huang Hao felt like the guy was genuinely clueless. This had to be feigned ignorance.
Anger flared in his heart, and he roared, “Jiang Xingyuan, are you playing dumb with me?”
“Xie Huai!” Huang Hao’s chest heaved as he breathed heavily, his tone mocking. “You think this is some big secret? Everyone in Xinghai City knows the Jiang family is trying to cling to the Xie family’s coattails.”
“Oh, so everyone knows about that already,” Jiang Xingyuan clapped his hands, marveling at how fast word traveled.
Seeing Jiang Xingyuan looking so detached, the veins on Huang Hao’s temple throbbed. “Aren’t you worried at all?”
“What am I worried about?” Jiang Xingyuan blinked. “He’s just out having fun. I’m not some old-fashioned prude.”
Isn’t it normal for an Omega to go out drinking with friends? Besides, he had just been out himself. Plus, he didn’t own the club, he couldn’t stop Xie Huai from going there to play.
Jiang Xingyuan rubbed his chin and clicked his tongue. “Is this what you wanted to trade? It doesn’t seem very valuable. If there’s nothing else, don’t keep me from catching my flight.”
Huang Hao hadn’t expected Jiang Xingyuan to be so indifferent. He started to panic.
The elevator doors opened, and Jiang Xingyuan straightened his clothes, preparing to leave. However, the next second, the doors slammed shut again.
Jiang Xingyuan closed his eyes and took a deep breath, an annoyed expression crossing his face. He turned to look at Huang Hao, who was holding the “close door” button. “Is there something else?”
Huang Hao said urgently, “Xie Huai went there specifically to welcome back his ‘White Moonlight’ (first love). Do you really not care? Aren’t you afraid Xie Huai will dump you and the Jiang family will be completely ruined? The Jiang family’s financial crisis…”
Huang Hao stopped abruptly. He realized the surroundings had become unnervingly quiet.
He suddenly met a pair of eyes that were eerily calm, leaving him speechless.
Jiang Xingyuan asked quietly, “Why did you stop?”
Huang Hao didn’t dare speak further. For some reason, he felt a flicker of fear.
Jiang Xingyuan stretched. The elevator doors opened again. He stepped out and stood firm. Turning back to Huang Hao, who was still frozen in the elevator, he asked, “Since you want me to go so badly, lead the way.”
Huang Hao looked bewildered. When did I say I wanted him to go? What does this have to do with me?
“Hurry up.”
Huang Hao looked at the receding back, gritted his teeth, and followed.
“Tell me, what’s the deal with this White Moonlight? If I’m going to meet a rival, I need to be prepared.”
“But, what does that have to do with me?”
“How can it not? Did you forget what you said? Good brothers!”
Xie Huai was nervous. He kept picking at his hands, his heart racing.
He had put a lot of effort into seeing Jiang Yi. Even his outfit was a carefully selected piece from the latest seasonal collection.
Inside the private booth was his White Moonlight. He looked at the door, hesitated a few times, and finally, slowly pushed it open.
The moment the door opened, Xie Huai saw the man he had been longing for, surrounded by a crowd. When their eyes met, Xie Huai’s soul felt as if it were being pulled toward him. He walked forward step by step.
The room fell silent.
At that moment, Jiang Yi was holding a glass of wine someone had handed him. As the door opened, he saw a youth standing there, elegant and noble like a little prince. The boy’s appearance seemed to brighten the dim room.
Jiang Yi watched the boy, whose eyes were filled only with him, walk closer. He flashed a surprised, happy smile and gazed at him tenderly. “A-Huai, you’re here.”
The room erupted in exclamations.
“Who is this? Senior Jiang, introduce us!”
“Yeah, Senior, since when did you know such a beautiful Omega?”
As the crowd crowded around, Jiang Yi instinctively pulled Xie Huai behind him to protect him.
Sensing the familiar scent from the man shielding him, the once haughty Xie Huai felt a flush creep onto his face.
“Hey, stop teasing him. A-Huai is shy.”
At these words, Xie Huai’s face turned even redder. He gripped the man’s hem tightly and sat obediently by his side.
“He is my younger cousin.”
“Really? You don’t look that much alike,” someone remarked.
Xie Huai’s eyes flickered, and the corners of his mouth twitched upward involuntarily. He couldn’t help but ask, “Then what do we look like?”
The crowd grew excited at his prompt.
“Hey, don’t mess around,” Jiang Yi said, his expression shifting as if to stop them, but it was too late.
“A boyfriend, obviously!”
“Yeah, didn’t Senior Jiang say he was bringing his boyfriend?”
The crowd cheered.
However, the word “boyfriend” hit Xie Huai like a heavy hammer, causing him to daze for a moment. “Boyfriend” a title that was so close yet so far.
Because Jiang Yi’s parents had passed away early, he had been raised by the Xie family. They grew up together as childhood sweethearts. Yet, Jiang Yi had always treated him like a younger brother.
He didn’t know when his feelings for Jiang Yi had changed. He knew he shouldn’t… he shouldn’t feel this way about his own cousin. But how could one control matters of the heart? Love is love.
He wondered if Jiang Yi had noticed something, as their contact had dwindled after Jiang Yi went abroad to study two years ago. He felt Jiang Yi was intentionally distancing himself.
He never thought of confessing his secret crush, fearing they would become strangers. He also wondered what his cousin’s expression would be when he learned of his marriage… and what he would think of Jiang Xingyuan. Would he object? Or would he agree to let him marry Jiang Xingyuan?
Jiang Yi noticed Xie Huai seemed down. His brow furrowed, and his expression cooled. “That’s enough.”
The room went quiet. People looked at each other, confused. Then they noticed the Omega by Jiang Yi’s side had reddened eyes.
The group was flustered. What… what happened?
“A-Huai is thin-skinned. I told you guys already.”
“Besides, A-Huai is an Omega. It’s not appropriate to make such jokes.”
Jiang Yi turned around. As if he hadn’t noticed Xie Huai’s distress, he comforted him gently, “A-Huai, they didn’t mean it. I hope you don’t mind.”
Xie Huai quickly regained his composure. “How could I mind?”
Faced with Jiang Yi’s protection, he felt both warm and incredibly pained. He gathered his emotions and forced a smile. “They thought I was your boyfriend. I’m actually quite happy about it.”
“If my brother’s future boyfriend isn’t as good as me, I won’t be happy!”
“You!” Jiang Yi gave a helpless smile. He reached out and, as he used to, affectionately pinched the boy’s nose. “How many times have I told you? Call me ‘Cousin’.”
Xie Huai hummed petulantly. “Brother or Cousin, it’s the same thing. Besides, isn’t this more intimate?”
Jiang Yi didn’t deny it, his handsome face still wearing a doting smile, though his eyes flickered.
Suddenly, with a bang, the door was kicked open.
“Hey, what are you doing to my fiancé?”
A sharp shout rang out. In an instant, the room became so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Jiang Yi and Xie Huai froze.
Everyone turned toward the door. They saw a figure walking in against the light, young, with a slender build.
Who is this?
When they saw the exquisite, striking face, everyone gasped. The youth had a beautiful smirk, a vivid appearance, and fox like eyes that tilted upward with a faint beauty mark. His smile was bold and alluring, yet his eyes held a touch of innocent youth. He was the definition of “pure yet seductive.”
The hearts of those present fluttered. They had thought an Omega like Xie Huai was beautiful enough, but they hadn’t expected someone this stunning.
Just as they assumed the youth was an Omega, they suddenly smelled a foreign, undeniable Alpha pheromone. Their expressions soured instantly, as if they had swallowed something foul.
It was that specific feeling of finding a peerless beauty only to realize they were the same gender as you.
Jiang Xingyuan caught their expressions and smirked mockingly. A bunch of [cuties].
Then they remembered what the boy had just said.
Fiancé? Whose fiancé?
Why is Jiang Xingyuan here! Xie Huai’s face turned pale. He had thought about using Jiang Xingyuan, but not like this.
Jiang Xingyuan, acting as if he didn’t see Xie Huai’s grimace, shoved himself between Xie Huai and Jiang Yi, creating a natural human barrier. The crowd watched the “Shura Field” in hushed anticipation.
“You are?” “Who are you?”
Jiang Xingyuan and Jiang Yi spoke almost simultaneously.
Jiang Xingyuan sized up the man critically. So this was the White Moonlight. He’s okay, I guess, but a bit worse than me. Their features were somewhat similar, typical cousins.
He clicked his tongue internally. He hadn’t expected the strictly raised Xie Huai to be bold enough to fall for his own cousin.
Outside the door, Huang Hao heard Jiang Xingyuan’s words and knew the kid was playing dumb again. Based on his past experiences of being pranked, he knew Jiang Xingyuan was about to cause trouble. He mentally lit a stick of incense for Xie Huai’s cousin, while also feeling a twisted sense of relief that he wasn’t the only one stuck in Jiang Xingyuan’s “pit” anymore.
“I saw you getting touchy-feely with my fiancé. Did you ask for my opinion?” Jiang Xingyuan tilted his head, looking like a total playboy.
Jiang Yi frowned at the strikingly handsome youth and his possessive movements. He hadn’t forgotten the word “fiancé” and narrowed his eyes.
Xie Huai’s fiancé?
Seeing the tension rising, Xie Huai suddenly pushed Jiang Xingyuan away and stood in front of Jiang Yi. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to protect you, of course. An Omega out alone needs to be careful not to be bullied.”
Xie Huai was fuming at Jiang Xingyuan’s “you’re ungrateful” look. How did he even know he was here? Was he stalking him?
“How did you know I was here? Are you stalking me?” Xie Huai demanded.
Jiang Xingyuan widened his eyes innocently. “I am not! Don’t slander me!”
“If you aren’t monitoring me, how did you know?”
“Hey, Young Master, do you know what kind of place this is?” Jiang Xingyuan leaned down, his face close to Xie Huai’s, a half-smile in his eyes. “Besides, you’re such a pretty Omega. You’re like a little white lamb in a pack of wolves.”
“As for how I know where you are, it just means I have a lot of connections. People naturally tell me things.”
Outside, Huang Hao scoffed. So shameless!
In that moment, faced with such a high-impact face, Xie Huai’s breath hitched and his heart skipped a beat. He never denied Jiang Xingyuan’s looks, but he wasn’t someone who cared only about appearances. If Jiang Xingyuan had any brains, he wouldn’t be so against the marriage. But Jiang Xingyuan was just a “gold-covered piece of trash” pretty on the outside, empty on the inside.
Jiang Yi felt a sense of crisis. He put an arm around Xie Huai’s shoulder to pull him away from Jiang Xingyuan. “Don’t worry, A-Huai. You don’t need his protection. I will protect you.”
Xie Huai froze, looking up at the man. The soft light in his eyes was almost overflowing.
Jiang Xingyuan felt his teeth ache at the sight. He coughed and asked provocatively, “You’ll protect him? Who are you? What’s your status?” He played the part of the dandy perfectly.
Xie Huai went quiet. He wanted to hear what Jiang Yi would say. Being defended by Jiang Yi felt wonderful, he actually had Jiang Xingyuan to thank for this.
Jiang Yi looked at the Alpha. This is the fiancé Xie Rong’an chose for Xie Huai? His eyes went cold as he reached out a hand.
“Let’s introduce ourselves. My name is Jiang Yi, a researcher in Alliance Mechanical Life Technology and the CEO of Sheng’an Technology. I am also…”
Xie Huai’s cousin.
Perhaps out of Alpha competitiveness, Jiang Yi swallowed the last part.
Jiang Xingyuan’s eyebrows shot up. He reached out and grabbed the hand, not with one hand, but with both, and gave a deep, formal bow.
The crowd was stunned. What the hell?
Shouldn’t the next step be a fight? Why the formal bow?
Jiang Xingyuan looked up, flashing a perfect eight tooth smile, his eyes curved innocently.
“Cousin! Let me formally introduce myself. I am Jiang Xingyuan, Xie Huai’s fiancé to be.”
“The stuff just now was a joke. I hope you don’t mind.”
“I am currently a student at Saint Ying High School in Xinghai City. My current status is a high school student. Cousin, please look after me in the future!”
WHAT! A! HIGH! SCHOOL! STUDENT!
The moment the words left his mouth, everyone was stunned into silence. The impact was no less than Mars hitting Earth.
Even Jiang Yi froze. The hand he was about to exert force with went limp, and his brain went blank.
So, Xie Huai’s fiancé is… a high schooler? I was just about to bully a high school kid!
Looking at Jiang Xingyuan’s seemingly innocent and slightly “dumb” smile, Jiang Yi felt a wave of guilt.
Only then did they notice the youth was wearing a school uniform. It was just unzipped and worn loosely like a trendy jacket, making it easy to miss. Jiang Yi also noticed the student ID pinned to the boy’s chest: Saint Ying High School, Grade 11, Class 18, Jiang Xingyuan.
He turned his head mechanically toward Xie Huai, his eyes full of disbelief. Is Xie Rong’an crazy? To betroth Xie Huai to a high schooler? Is he even of age?
Xie Huai’s sweet smile vanished instantly. He didn’t know what Jiang Xingyuan was playing at! Especially with the way Jiang Yi was looking at him for confirmation. He was completely at a loss.
Jiang Xingyuan caught the shocked expressions and smirked inwardly. Especially at Jiang Yi, who had been planning to play dirty. Seeing the man’s face turn stiff with guilt made Jiang Xingyuan feel incredibly satisfied!
