Huaisi was a supporting character in a post-apocalyptic “protagonist progression” novel. The protagonist was an underestimated nobody, while Huaisi was the long-lost, noble-hearted young master of a prestigious family. As the protagonist’s sworn brother, Huaisi’s sole purpose was to pave the way for the lead. In the first third of the story, he sacrificed himself to block a horde of mutated zombies, allowing the protagonist to assume his identity and continue leveling up.

Huaisi thought that once his mission of sacrifice was complete, he could rest in peace.

Strange enough, his soul remained anchored within three meters of his own body. He watched, stunned, as the protagonist held his dying body tightly, weeping. The protagonist even pressed a kiss to the lips of his cold, lifeless corpse, his tears mingling with the touch.

Wait… this… this isn’t right!

According to the original plot, the protagonist should have been heartbroken but resolute; he was supposed to bury the body to prevent it from being devoured by zombies.

Instead, the protagonist carried his “corpse” away from the survivor zone, hiding in a dilapidated residential building where they once rested. He abandoned the power and influence he had worked so hard to build, cutting himself off from all of humanity.

Huaisi comforted himself: It’s fine. The protagonist is just loyal and sentimental; we were brothers who lived and died together.

That was until he saw the protagonist refusing to let go of his corpse’s fingers, obsessively stroking the pale, dead face, his eyes filled with a terrifying, twisted infatuation. The protagonist would hold those cold fingers to his own face, whispering his name incessantly.

“Huaisi…”

For three full months, the protagonist stayed alone with the “corpse,” frantically attempting to keep him in ways Huaisi couldn’t even comprehend.

Huaisi fell silent. I should have just stayed dead. Oh wait, he was already dead.

Suddenly, the world spun. He opened his eyes to meet the protagonist’s gaze of pure, ecstatic joy. The protagonist was in the middle of his daily routine meticulously wiping down Huaisi’s skin. Even the slightest movement from Huaisi was met with the most tender, obsessive care.

Huaisi: “…” Author, well played. You actually rewrote the story.

Because the author rewrote the plot, Huaisi was back in his body. However, he didn’t die as a human he had transformed into a mutated zombie. In the original logic, the protagonist was supposed to kill him in agony, thereby elevating his own spirit and character.

“Haa…” Huaisi opened his mouth, a zombie’s low growl escaping his throat as he lunged to bite the protagonist!

“Huaisi…”

The protagonist murmured his name. He grabbed the back of Huaisi’s head and pinched his chin, ignoring his terrifying zombie form. He kissed him deeply, a possessive, aggressive invasion. The protagonist’s tongue grazed Huaisi’s sharp, mutated fangs, drawing tiny beads of blood.

Huaisi: “Mmph…”

His hands, which had been resisting just a moment ago, suddenly hooked around the protagonist’s neck!

He tasted the blood. The zombie’s instinct made it impossible to refuse he could only surrender.

The protagonist’s eyes narrowed slightly. He intentionally pressed his tongue against Huaisi’s sharp fangs, forcing a cut. A surge of blood flowed down from the corners of their mouths, mingling between them…

Huaisi held him tighter, his eyes turning completely red. Lost in the thick, metallic scent of blood, he drowned in the sensation.

“Huaisi… now, you’ll never be able to leave me again…”
