After My Death, Everyone Repented (Transmigration) - Chapter 64.4
Xie Shaoyun was stunned. The ugly, caterpillar-like stitching looked exactly like the raised seam running down the middle of the “cotton-padded jacket” she was wearing.
“You…” Xie Shaoyun was so angry she could barely breathe.
Chi Yi nodded proudly. “Mhm.”
“I made it.”
“It was my first time being a seamstress. Making this was very hard work you have to wear it.”
Xie Shaoyun glared at the rose-red fabric in Chi Yi’s hands and rolled over in protest, but she couldn’t bring herself to refuse outright, Chi Yi’s elegant fingers, usually accustomed to holding a fountain pen, had been pricked raw.
“Can’t you just ”
“No.” Chi Yi refused flatly, saying she enjoyed doing this for Xie Shaoyun. She wouldn’t bother making large garments, that would be a waste of time but dressing up a skull was a relaxing and enjoyable pastime.
She called this “dressing up”?
Xie Shaoyun: Ridiculous.
On Tuesday, Chi Yi didn’t go out. Instead, she took Xie Shaoyun to her office. Xie Shaoyun had been napping on the toy bed when she woke up and accidentally overheard Chi Yi’s conversation with her secretary.
“You’ve pushed her too far. Aren’t you afraid she’ll take you down with her in the end?”
“The evidence the police have suggests she’s involved in a homicide. A year ago, a girl died in her apartment. Later, her assistant took the blame, and the case was dropped. But during their investigation into Jian Qing, the police found inconsistencies. However, because so much time has passed and someone already took the fall, gathering evidence will take time. That’s why the arrest warrant hasn’t been issued yet.”
“Officer Chen asked me to relay a message, Jian Qing is a twisted, scheming criminal. He hopes you’ll stay vigilant.”
“With the 6nm chip about to hit the market and the Sui family’s conspiracy fully exposed, Jian Qing will be left with nothing. Before the arrest warrant is issued, provoking her like this”
Chi Yi said, “I know.”
Secretary Wang hesitated before asking, “Should we hire security for you?”
“There are special police following me,” Chi Yi replied. “She doesn’t have the means to get close.”
After Secretary Wang left, Chi Yi lifted the gauze curtain in front of Xie Shaoyun and asked, “Did you hear everything?”
“Weren’t you the one who wanted me to hear? You didn’t try to hide it from me.” Xie Shaoyun raised an eyebrow.
Chi Yi set down her fountain pen and admitted her intentions: “You can hear all of this. I promised to discuss it with you.”
“Officer Chen’s concerns aren’t unfounded. Jian Qing will definitely come after you. Having dealt with her for years, I can tell you, she’s a lunatic with no sense of right or wrong. When she can’t survive, she won’t let anyone else live either. That’s why I didn’t present the evidence from the start. Once exposed, she’d stop at nothing.”
Xie Shaojun didn’t hesitate before telling Chi Yi.
Chi Yi looked at her: “She can’t get close to me.”
“That’s good. I’m not entirely worried about you.” Xie Shaojun laughed. “But you might need to notify the police to protect me, still lying in the hospital. I think she’ll target me to force you out.”
Chi Yi’s expression changed. Xie Shaojun asked, “What’s wrong?”
Without a word, Chi Yi walked to the balcony and called Officer Chen.
Wednesday, clear skies.
The Haimi product launch was held globally in an almost farcical manner. Most attendees assumed it would be CEO Chi Yi’s resignation announcement. But when Chi Yi, her long hair elegantly tied back, stepped into the spotlight with graceful poise
She unveiled Haimi’s 6nm chip technology, developed six months prior. Chi Yi named it: “Toward Life.”
During the Q&A, a reporter asked the young female CEO, “Does the name carry any meaning?”
“It represents the advancement of chip technology, progressing toward a more vibrant future.”
Her assistant, standing nearby, twitched a smile. The truth was, months ago, the chip wasn’t called “Toward Life” but “Toward Death” a hidden meaning of longing. Later, Chi Yi no longer needed to long for anyone because that person had returned. Now, it symbolized Chi Yi’s rebirth.
“The chip was completed months ago. Why announce it only now?”
Chi Yi took the microphone and replied, “I wanted to see.”
“See what?”
“Whether baseless media distortions or hard technology hold more sway.”
Her words were cutting. Camera flashes flickered incessantly across her face. She narrowed her striking peach-blossom eyes sharp, composed, and unyielding. Her tone offered no courtesy, exuding an aloof, untouchable demeanor.
Only when she lowered her head to touch a misshapen, rose-red pendant did her expression soften slightly, lending her cold, porcelain-like features a rare warmth.
After the press conference, Jian Qing vanished without a trace.
At 6 p.m., as expected, an incident occurred at Xie Shaojun’s hospital in Sijiu City.
Mercenaries hired by Jian Qing stormed the hospital with a knife, abducting the unconscious patient from her bed.
But when the assailants delivered their hostage to Jian Qing’s hideout, a boathouse the supposedly comatose policewoman suddenly overpowered them, arresting the accomplices on the spot. Unfortunately, Jian Qing wasn’t there.
The police called Chi Yi as she was boarding a flight to Sijiu City, wearing the skull necklace.
She missed the call.
After landing and stepping out of the airport, Chi Yi finally answered the police.
At that very moment, the cold tip of a knife pressed against her abdomen.
Inside the skull pendant, Xie Shaojun heard Jian Qing’s voice: “Didn’t expect me, did you, Chi Yi?”
For the first time, Xie Shaojun felt panic, an overwhelming urge to return to her body.
Jian Qing, barely five feet tall, petite and slender, was dressed entirely in black clothes, black mask, and sunglasses.
No one assumed her to be a criminal by default.
After smoothly forcing Chi Yi into the car without any hindrance, Xie Shaojun noticed Qin Wan driving up front. The car door was shut, and the knife tip never left Chi Yi’s throat. Jian Qing gradually applied more pressure, and droplets of blood slid down Chi Yi’s neck.
They dripped onto Xie Shaojun, warm, with the metallic tang of rust.
Calmly, Xie Shaojun called out the system’s name in her heart:
“001.”
“Come out. I know you’ve been there all along.”
There was still no response in her mind.
Since it didn’t appear, Xie Shaojun methodically forced it out in her thoughts: “Article 134 of the Quick Transmigration Regulations states that after a transmigrator’s task concludes, whether successful or failed, an accompanying system will issue a notification.”
“But I never received one not because the task failed, but because the reward couldn’t be delivered.”
“My reward was for Chi Yi to be happy. As of today, there are no more emotional issues between Chi Yi and me. Yet the reward still hasn’t been granted because Chi Yi is still in mortal danger today, isn’t she?”
A sudden crackle of static buzzed in her head: “You finally remembered! I was about to suffocate to death!”
The system grumbled irritably.
Under normal circumstances, Xie Shaojun would have laughed, but right now, she couldn’t muster the humor. “You deliberately made up those absurd reasons world-ending destruction, chips annihilating nations, world wars, just to make me suspicious. If I still couldn’t piece it together, I’d be an idiot.”
“Nonsense! I abide by the rules, uphold civility, and stand firm in my principles. I would never break protocol for any task-taker. Watch your mouth, Host, and don’t spout nonsense.”
Xie Shaojun admitted she was talking nonsense.
“Now’s not the time for chit-chat. I need to return to my body.”
The system confirmed that Chi Yi’s life was in danger.
It asked Xie Shaojun: “Are you sure you want to return to your body? After this, you’ll never have another chance to leave your soul. Your real-world body will be cremated, declared officially dead. Can you accept that?”
Xie Shaojun silently hummed in affirmation, murmuring an apology though it was unclear to whom, “I’m sorry. I have to stay.”
The mistake was just terrible timing, like everything else in our lives the people we meet, the bad luck we endure. We bear it, do our best, and wait for a miracle.
