After My Cross-dressing Cover Was Blown, the Movie Star Became My Accomplice - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
◎This is Just a Minor Injury, Hiss!◎
The woman appeared so suddenly that the group in the inn, who had just decided on their next arrangements, were caught completely off guard. Even the production crew failed to react in time.
“Nannan, come home with Mama. Come home with me… No, no, that’s not right. You aren’t Nannan! You aren’t! Did you take Nannan away? Give me back my daughter!”
One moment, the crazed woman was clutching Kong Yanfei with a hopeful smile; the next, her expression turned predatory as she screamed at the girl.
Kong Yanfei was terrified. She looked at the woman in horror, trying to break free but finding the grip impossible to escape.
“You… let go of me! I have nothing to do with you!” At this moment, her only instinct was to flee, her eyes searching desperately for help. “Uncle Bi, help me!”
She looked to Bi Tu because he was the closest person to her. But when she turned her head, she found that Bi Tu had already retreated several steps to distance himself.
She froze for a split second, and then another force grabbed her arm.
“Hey, let go of her! She isn’t your daughter!” Qu Fu pulled Kong Yanfei into her embrace to protect her, forcefully prying at the woman’s hands.
Mu Yao and Cheng Zeyi, who had been slightly further away, rushed over. Mu Yao joined Qu Fu’s side to pry the woman’s hands open—one hand each, and they finally managed to get her to let go. Cheng Zeyi, quick-witted and fast-acting, hauled the woman away.
Cheng Zeyi’s strength was indeed great; he carried the thrashing woman four or five meters away. He pressed the crazed woman down into a chair and shouted at the still-stunned production crew:
“Don’t just stand there! Get some rope, and call the police!”
Under his shout, the staff finally scrambled into motion. Once the crazed woman was tied to the chair, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief. Qu Fu led Kong Yanfei away from the woman, comforting her and checking for injuries.
Mu Yao frowned and stepped forward, wanting to check the woman’s condition, but was blocked by Cheng Zeyi.
“Don’t go over there. She’ll hurt you.”
There were spots of blood-red on the sleeve of Cheng Zeyi’s arm. When he had hauled the woman away, she had been scratching and clawing continuously, managing to lacerate his arm right through the fabric.
“You’re injured; it needs to be treated.” Mu Yao’s expression sharpened at the sight of the blood. He abandoned the idea of checking the woman and turned to find the inn staff.
With such an incident, filming certainly couldn’t continue. Mu Yao left the filming area without any psychological burden and walked to the staff counter. The employee was also looking panicked, currently on the phone.
“Yes, yes, it’s Auntie Zhou. She got out and ran into the inn. We need the Village Chief to handle this; it’s a big mess!”
The person on the other end seemed to be asking about the production crew.
“The guests? They should be fine. Movie King Cheng’s reflexes were great; he controlled Auntie Zhou very quickly. But the little champion was probably scared out of her wits. Yes, okay, I understand. I’ll do my best to comfort them. Please inform the Village Chief as soon as possible.”
When the employee hung up, she finally noticed Mu Yao. “Ah! You… you…”
“Do you have alcohol, cotton swabs, and medicine for external wounds?”
“Yes, we do!”
Mu Yao asked for the necessary items first. Once the employee handed them over, he asked as if casually: “Auntie Zhou’s matter actually requires the Village Chief to come personally?”
“Yes, Auntie Zhou and the Village Chief have a very good relationship. Ever since she went mad, the Chief has been looking after her. Perhaps the Chief was too slow today and accidentally let her out. Actually, Auntie Zhou rarely runs out like this.”
“Auntie Zhou is very pitiful, really. Her husband died early, and a few years later her daughter went missing—no body found, no sign of life. She went mad and became like this. Sigh!” The employee shook her head, her expression full of pity.
No husband? I thought the Village Chief was her husband. Turns out he isn’t! Mu Yao’s eyes flickered, sensing something was off.
“I thought they were close because they were a couple. It seems I was mistaken.”
“Well, not exactly. Though they never married, they used to date. If Auntie Zhou hadn’t gone mad, I feel like she and the Chief could have rekindled things. After all, her husband and child are gone, and she has to keep living. It’s a shame.”
Nothing stays a secret in a small village. Everyone knew about Auntie Zhou and the Village Chief, and everyone felt it was a tragedy. The employee was young, but she had heard her family talk about it since she was a child.
“It is a shame,” Mu Yao nodded in agreement, then took the disinfectant supplies back to Cheng Zeyi.
“Roll up your sleeve. I’ll apply the medicine for you.”
“I can’t do it with one hand. Can you help me?” Cheng Zeyi sat down. He unbuttoned his cuff and tried to roll it up clumsily, but the sleeve was loose and quickly unraveled.
Mu Yao placed the items on the table and reached out to roll the sleeve for him, exposing several red lacerations.
“Luckily it was through the clothes. Plus, she wasn’t in a sudden fit of rage, otherwise, you’d probably have to head back to the city for a shot.” After rolling up the sleeve, he pulled Cheng Zeyi to the kitchen to rinse the wound under running water.
It was rare enough for an old-fashioned kitchen to have a tap. Mu Yao originally wanted to find soap or hand sanitizer to give the wound an extra wash, but he was stopped by the other man.
“A simple rinse is enough. I saw you talking to the staff just now. Did you ask about her?” Cheng Zeyi nodded toward the crazed Auntie Zhou. Mu Yao glanced at her; she was still searching for her daughter.
“Yeah. She’s probably been mad for a while. She couldn’t handle her husband’s death and her daughter’s disappearance… I suspect the daughter’s disappearance was the biggest blow.”
“That truly is pitiful. I wonder if she can ever be cured.” Cheng Zeyi’s eyes showed a hint of pity.
“In this situation, I’m afraid she’d only recover if the missing daughter was found.” Mu Yao shook his head. This was a sickness of the heart, requiring a specific “medicine” to resolve.
While cleaning the wound, Mu Yao skillfully squeezed it to let out any tainted blood. He thought Cheng Zeyi would grunt in pain, but the man remained expressionless, seemingly unafraid of the sting.
After cleaning it, he led Cheng Zeyi back to the table. He picked up the alcohol and said softly, “There’s only alcohol here. It’ll sting a bit, so bear with it.”
“Xiao Yao, your tone sounds like you’re coaxing a child. Don’t worry, this is just a minor injury, hiss!” Before Cheng Zeyi could finish, Mu Yao poured the alcohol on with a very steady hand, then began debriding the wound with a cotton swab.
His hand was very steady while treating the wound, but the pain was also very real. After applying the ointment, Mu Yao picked up a bandage, wrapped the wound, and tied a beautiful butterfly knot.
“There. The wound isn’t deep, so it should heal quickly. But you still need to keep an eye on it. Also, if you’re really worried, you can ask the production crew for leave. With your status, it should be very easy to get.” Mu Yao looked at the butterfly knot with satisfaction, though he still wanted to suggest going to a hospital.
“Thank you. I’ll consider it. Let me take these back; you should rest for a while too.” Cheng Zeyi smiled. He picked up the alcohol and swabs to return to the front desk. He only injured his arm, not his legs; he couldn’t keep letting Mu Yao run back and forth.
The Village Chief arrived very quickly. He ran into the inn, drenched in sweat—a striking sight in the cool spring air. As soon as he entered, he rushed toward the director, his voice reaching them before he did.
“Oh dear! Director, I am so sorry! Truly sorry! I didn’t keep a close enough eye on her. My fault, my mistake!” The Chief’s voice was hurried and carried a local accent. He rubbed his hands together nervously, looking around. “I heard she frightened little Champion Kong. I… I want to apologize to her!”
As he spoke, he saw Kong Yanfei, who had just been calmed by Qu Fu but still looked shaken. He wanted to go over to apologize but feared scaring her again, so he stayed in front of the director to seek his opinion.
“Chief, this matter is very serious and unacceptable!” The director looked at the Chief sternly. He had already checked on Kong Yanfei and Cheng Zeyi. While Kong Yanfei was frightened, she had been calmed. Cheng Zeyi’s injury didn’t look severe, but it needed observation, and a trip to the city for a shot might be necessary for peace of mind.
“I remember in our cooperation contract, safety issues were clearly defined. With so many of our crew here filming and heavyweight guests working and resting here, how did you arrange things? You can’t even guarantee our physical safety?” The director’s gaze fell on the woman tied to the chair. His expression grew grimmer, and his tone harsher.
“Allowing an unstable person to wander into the filming site is a failure on your part. According to the contract, you should be paying compensation!”
“Yes, yes, yes. My arrangements were indeed inadequate. I should pay! I should pay!” The Chief nodded repeatedly. He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe the sweat from his forehead, maintaining a very humble posture.
“Considering we still need to continue filming, I don’t want to be too heartless. You must give our entire crew three promises.” The staff and the recovering guests were gathering around. The director’s expression remained unchanged and his speech was steady, but his voice grew louder as the guests approached.
“First, this unstable individual who caused harm must be completely removed from the production crew’s activity range. I do not want to see her appearing in Fujin or harming anyone else on the crew again. Unstable people must have their movements restricted!”
“Second, from now on, you must implement security measures. During our filming period, prevent any irrelevant personnel from approaching the inn or the filming site. This must be a 24-hour shift! As for the work logistics, I will have our producer and manager coordinate with your people.”
“Third, Movie King Cheng’s injury and Little Kong’s fright must be compensated, including medical fees and the cost of psychological counseling. It’s not that I’m trying to squeeze money out of you; this is the responsibility and attitude you must show after such a failure.”
After stating the three promises, the director’s tone softened slightly. “Of course, I believe you can handle this well, Chief. I believe this village will get better and better. No one wanted to see this happen. Now, it depends on your handling and remediation.”
“The director is right. These three promises are fair. I’ll take Little Zhou back right now and ensure she stays away. I’ll arrange the security immediately. As for the compensation, I’ll start the process right away. Uh… Movie King Cheng was injured? He needs a shot?” The Chief spoke quickly, finally looking toward Cheng Zeyi with uncertainty.
“Hmph. She scratched Movie King Cheng’s arm. He likely needs tetanus or rabies shots. You know his status in the film industry; having to only pay medical fees for injuring him—you should be laughing in relief!” The director said crossly. The Chief repeatedly thanked Cheng Zeyi.
Mu Yao watched the whole scene, privately clicking his tongue.
When the crew had an accident yesterday and the equipment almost hurt someone, the director downplayed it as much as possible. Today, when a guest gets hurt, the attitude changes instantly. Even if the nature of the events is different, one can’t help but sigh—the life of a common worker isn’t worth much, eh!
After finishing with the director, the Chief immediately began making arrangements. He found several people to carry the crazed Auntie Zhou away. She was still struggling, and in the scuffle, a small object fell from her pocket. It happened to catch Mu Yao’s eye.
Mu Yao walked over and picked it up. It was a small, cute rabbit hair clip. Thinking it might be a memento from Auntie Zhou’s daughter, he wanted to chase after them to return it…
