- After My Cheap Husband Faked His Death, I Ended Up Happily Ever After with His Younger Brother
- Chapter 7 - Handsome, You Smell So Good
In a villa in the western district of Bin City.
The massive living room was empty, until the sound of water in the bathroom suddenly stopped.
Pei Jiheng walked out wrapped in a bath towel, drying his hair.
The main lights were off, leaving only a warm yellow spotlight above the bar. The light fell onto the marble countertop, reflecting a cold, white halo.
He leaned against the side of the bar, tossed the towel onto the back of a chair, took a chilled bottle of red wine from the ice bucket, and poured a glass.
The dark red liquid slid down the side of the glass, pooling at the bottom. Pei Jiheng picked up the glass and took a sip.
The wine was slightly astringent, carrying the scent of orchard wood.
The wine was ice-cold, but it did nothing for the wicked fire burning in his heart. He rubbed his temples, but the irritability in his mind did not fade in the slightest.
Luo Huai’s image lingered in his mind.
Soft hair, fair face, a teardrop mole under his right eye, two small dimples when he smiled, large eyes that looked obedient, yet sometimes hid deep craftiness. What was most unforgettable was that scent.
The sweetness of acacia flowers, lingering and faint.
It was like the clear sweetness of buds on an acacia tree just blooming after an early summer rain, carried through a window by the wind. It held a hint of wildness from the forest, long-lasting yet not overpowering.
Pei Jiheng closed his eyes.
How could that child be so special?
The Pei family was prominent in Hong Kong, with endless banquets, social engagements, and networking events. Countless Omegas had thrown themselves at him. He had smelled all kinds of pheromones, thick or light, sweet or cold, and not a single one had made him pause for even a second.
He did not think Luo Huai was the best-looking Omega he had ever seen, but he was undoubtedly the most attractive.
The Pei family was based in Hong Kong, and that was where Pei Jiheng usually resided, but this time he had decided to stay in Bin City for a while due to a business deal. Appearing at the club that day had been for a meeting.
The meetings had already concluded, and Pei Jiheng was coming out of the restroom, intending to have his driver pick him up, when a sweet presence fell into his arms.
He had not even had time to see the person’s face clearly before his body reacted on its own.
In the past twenty-six years, Pei Jiheng had never had intimate contact with any Omega, nor had he felt attracted to anyone.
He thought his self-control could never be defeated by anyone, yet that night, he had lost control without any warning.
However, he remembered clearly that it was the Omega who had crashed into his arms and refused to let go, tilting his face up, his eye corners flushed, his voice incredibly soft: “Handsome, you smell so good.”
Then he was pushed backward by that person, his spine hitting the corridor wall with a dull thud.
It was not until the effects of the pheromones took hold and they stumbled into the hotel room that the person had been the one to lean in, lips pressed against his neck, kissing him again and again.
But he did not deny his own desire.
So he reached out, gripped the back of that person’s head, pressed him against the door, and kissed him back fiercely.
After that, he had not let go for the entire night.
Pei Jiheng squeezed his eyes shut and poured another glass of wine.
How could he have imagined that the object of this accidental one-night stand would turn out to be the child of an old acquaintance?
It was damnably dramatic, just like the news and rumors trumpeted by the media.
What was more troublesome was that Luo Huai was not someone easily pushed around.
Pei Jiheng had met many people, all kinds, each harboring their own secrets. He could judge in a very short time whether someone was loyal or treacherous, foolish or wise.
Luo Huai was not foolish.
Not only was he not foolish, he was remarkably sharp. Acting obedient, putting on a show, playing hard to get; he used those methods with such proficiency that it did not seem like the level of sophistication a twenty-year-old should have.
Most importantly.
Pei Jiheng’s hand froze.
He looked down at his hand, his fingers curling slightly.
That afternoon at the bistro, when Luo Huai was being held by the chin, he had released a faint trace of pheromones, which was that familiar sweet fragrance.
Pei Jiheng had shown nothing on the surface, but at that moment, he clearly felt something in his lower abdomen tighten, and that fire had been burning from the afternoon until now.
A shower had only washed away part of it, but it was still burning.
Pei Jiheng just swirled his glass, not drinking anymore, simply watching the dark red liquid refract fragmented light under the lamp.
He let out a sigh and murmured that name under his breath.
“Luo Huai.”
Trouble.
The next day.
Early in the morning, Luo Huai received good news.
“Young Master Luo Huai.” It was the voice of the Luo family housekeeper on the other end, full of smiles. “Good news. Your application for reinstatement has been approved. The written notice from Bin University arrived at the Luo residence this morning. I will send it to you immediately.”
Luo Huai stood up abruptly.
“Really? That is wonderful! Thank you, Uncle Li!”
Bin University was the best university in Bin City and ranked high within the province and even the entire country. Two years ago, Luo Huai had passed the college entrance examination and been admitted to the university’s design major.
At that time, he had received the admission notice, squatted in his rented room, and read that page over and over again, finally tucking it back into the envelope with great care, full of anticipation for his college life.
But a few days later, that incident happened.
Luo Huai could not attend university, lost his source of income, and was saddled with debt, so he had to drop out and start working odd jobs everywhere.
But things were different now.
Now that he had been brought back to the Luo family, he did not have to worry about money, and he could make up for the years he had lost.
Fortunately, he had been cautious enough at the time to contact the school and provide documentation to retain his student status, otherwise, it might not have gone so smoothly.
Luo Huai considered another matter. Bin University was located in the western part of the city, quite far from the Southern District. It would be a hassle to wake up early for morning classes.
Moreover, he did not want to put on a show under Lin Yuhe’s nose every day.
Perhaps he could apply for campus housing or find a place near the university.
He decided to act immediately. Since he had money, he could tell his family after finding a suitable place.
In the afternoon, Luo Huai made an appointment with a realtor on a platform and took a taxi to the western district.
Luo Huai was used to being thrifty, but he did not want to live in an urban village like before, so the places he booked were all standard, newly built residential complexes.
After viewing the first apartment, he walked out of the complex gate with the agent. The agent casually introduced the high-end villa area nearby, saying that if his budget allowed, he could also consider it.
Luo Huai waved his hand, saying he could not live in such a large house.
The next second, he saw a black Porsche slowly driving over and stopping by the side of the road.
The door opened, and a man stepped out.
Deep gray trench coat, silver-rimmed glasses, hair lightly blown by the wind, revealing deep and profound brows; he possessed the exceptional charm of a mature man.
He lowered his head to say a few words to the driver, and the car drove away.
Luo Huai’s body moved faster than his brain, and he suddenly crouched behind the nearby bushes.
The dense holly leaves poked at his face, tickling him, but he dared not move, only able to look out through the gaps in the branches.
Pei Jiheng did not look his way, just lifting his feet and walking toward the entrance of the villa area.
Luo Huai blinked.
He lived here?
No, wait. Did he not usually reside in Hong Kong? If he bought property in Bin City, did he intend to stay for a long time?
Luo Huai’s mind spun for a few rounds, and he suddenly had an idea.
He stood up, turned his head, and gave the agent an apologetic smile. “I am sorry, brother, I suddenly have an urgent matter to attend to. I will not look at any more apartments today.”
The smile on the agent’s face froze for a moment, his mouth twitching, but he eventually nodded. “Alright then, you can contact me on the platform later.”
“Okay, okay, thank you for your trouble.”
The agent hopped on his electric scooter and rode off.
Luo Huai looked down, brushed the grass clippings off his clothes, smoothed his hair, and adjusted his expression.
Then, he emerged from behind the complex entrance, crossed the road, and just as that figure was about to step into the gate of the villa area, he spoke up at the perfect moment.
“Uncle, what a coincidence!”
