- Chapter 4 - Your Ashes Will Scatter, While He Flourishes and Grows
Sui Yu surveyed the surrounding environment. The forest was deep and dense, with lush vegetation; he was evidently currently within the wood-attribute region.
With night falling, it was not an opportune time to explore deeply. Besides, as someone merely at the Foundation Establishment stage, he didn’t expect to acquire any supreme treasures here anyway; at best, he could treat it as a trial.
His gaze landed on the spirit beast nestled snugly in his palm, and the corners of his lips curved upward as he smiled.
Yun Mu suddenly felt a chill run down his back, his fluffy white fur instantly standing on end.
A moment later,
[You unfilial disciple, you’re driving me crazy! Why don’t you untie your master right this instant?!]
He saw that his entire beastly form had been tied in a cross shape across two nearby saplings. Under the flickering firelight, his pristine white fur shimmered with a warm, yellowish glow. As a breeze swept past, Yun Mu swayed and bobbed right along with it.
Sui Yu held a thickened, oversized foxtail grass in his hand. Sporting a villainous expression magnified three times over with a touch of playfulness, he stepped closer to Yun Mu step by step.
He was acutely aware of the disparity in strength between himself and his master. Even though Yun Mu’s cultivation had suffered and his realm had dropped, he was still far out of reach. If he had possessed his peak cultivation from his past life, he would have hacked Yun Mu into a thousand pieces long ago; why would he need to endure humiliation and continue staying by his side?
Though he couldn’t exact his revenge just yet, seizing this wonderful opportunity to thoroughly torment this little beast and vent some pent-up fury would also be satisfying.
The foxtail grass flicked back and forth twice in front of Yun Mu, poking him right on the tip of his nose: “Speak!”
[Say what, big brother? If you have something to ask, just spit it out! Can you please not play this kind of humiliating BDSM play]
“You look quite spiritually intelligent, so why haven’t you cultivated the ability to speak yet? I originally hoped to inquire about the situation inside this secret realm, but I never expected you to be so utterly blockheaded!” Sui Yu sneered.
[You’re the blockheaded one! Your whole family is blockheaded!!] Yun Mu glared angrily with puffed-up cheeks at the unfilial disciple before him.
Sui Yu looked at Yun Mu with a sense of novelty. In his memories, his master had always been someone devoid of smiles, dignified, and stern. He hadn’t expected his inner thoughts to be so lively and quite amusing.
At this thought, Sui Yu suddenly froze for a brief moment.
Is there any possibility that the master in his past life was originally just as lively and interesting, and only behaved that way toward them due to other reasons?
No, impossible. The bone-deep aversion the master held toward him in his past life could simply not be faked. Then this person before him…
Could he have been possessed by another soul?
He would observe a bit longer. Perhaps this was merely another act of disguise on his part. What if it was a trap?
“Yo, isn’t this the little disciple of Immortal Lord Yun Mu from the Luoxuan Sect?!” An inopportune voice suddenly rang out. Sui Yu whipped around sharply, his expression turning icy-cold in an instant, resembling a deep-freeze.
“What’s this? Having nothing better to do, you’ve caught a spirit beast just to torture it for fun? Truly, like master, like disciple your behavioral styles are cut from the exact same cloth. Hahahahaha…”
Yun Mu followed the voice and looked over. Five or six figures emerged from behind a distant tree, echoing one another with laughter that sounded exceptionally frantic.
Judging from their attire and ornaments, they should be disciples of the Sound-Shattering Sect and the Joyful Sect. No doubt, because they had landed close to each other when entering the secret realm, they had gathered early to move about in a group.
The leading figure who had stepped forward to mock them was Geng Duan, the young master of the Sound-Shattering Sect. This man possessed an exceptionally large forehead, a sharply shaved chin, triangular eyes, and monkey-like cheeks, making him look as though an awl had been grafted directly onto his neck.
If he hadn’t known for certain that he had transmigrated into a xianxia novel rather than a science fiction story, he would have nearly thought he was looking at an alien.
“Get lost,” Sui Yu uttered in a low voice. No particular emotion could be heard in his tone, yet it carried an bone-chilling frost.
“What kind of piece of trash are you, to think you have the right to tell me to get lost?” Geng Duan advanced viciously by two steps. “I heard that a few days ago, some mediocre, useless little garbage got beaten to a bloody pulp by his master, left on the verge of death. Who would have thought he’d be so tough, bouncing right back to come running into the secret realm to snatch resources? Tsk tsk, unable to even recognize his own weight he’d better not die quietly somewhere without anyone even collecting his corpse.”
Sui Yu suppressed his fury, his fists clenched so tightly they turned white: “Please get lost.”
[Ahem, not bad, the little disciple is quite polite. Not only does this guy look bizarre and deformed, but he can’t even speak human words—how truly pitiful. However, since his name literally means ‘root-broken’ [Geng Duan], such behavior isn’t all that surprising. I just hope my little disciple is magnanimous and spares him for now, lest the fierce beasts and ominous monsters in the secret realm lose out on a meal.]
Yun Mu had already slipped free from his bindings while no one was paying attention. Leaning against a large tree with one leg crossed over the other, he held a strand of the foxtail grass—which Sui Yu had thrown away in anger earlier between his lips, leisurely eating melons and watching the show.
Sui Yu, who had been confronting the enemy upfront, suddenly lost his anger. The corners of his mouth twitched upward in a way almost imperceptible to the eye, though he quickly suppressed it. Ignoring these uninvited guests, he turned around, scooped up Yun Mu into his arms, and walked away on his own.
“Stop right there!” Two sycophantic lackeys from the Joyful Sect pursued them with a shout. “Young Master Geng hasn’t let you leave yet. We were merely exchanging a few casual words, so why must Fellow Daoist be so hot-tempered?”
[Tsk tsk, one word stunning. This wave of bootlicking is truly shameless. As expected, PUA exists everywhere in life.]
Sui Yu’s eyebrows arched slightly as his pace gradually slowed down. He found that his master’s inner monologues were quite interesting.
Geng Duan stared at Sui Yu’s retreating back, burning with rage. Having lived this long, he had never been ignored like this before. Quietly channeling his spiritual energy, he suddenly launched an assault, summoning his natal blood blade as he leaped forward to strike at Sui Yu’s back.
Sui Yu sidestepped to evade the attack, flipped up into a tree in three swift bounds, and fixed a frigid, icy gaze upon Geng Duan.
“You’re nothing more than a weed meant to be trampled upon, yet you dare to show disrespect toward this young master. Looks like I’ll just have to leave your life here,” Geng Duan declared, forming hand seals with a look of utter contempt directed at Sui Yu.
[So what if my disciple is a weed? Today you trample on his head, tomorrow he grows over your grave. When the winds blow in gusts, your ashes scatter while he flourishes and grows.]
“Pfft!” Sui Yu couldn’t help bursting out into laughter.
Fluttering his round, pebble-like eyes within Sui Yu’s embrace, Yun Mu revealed a hint of bewilderment: [His mentality is quite strong, huh? He can actually laugh at a time like this, maxing out his provocation gauge instantly.]
Sure enough, Geng Duan was so infuriated he nearly lost his sanity: “You dare laugh at me?!”
A formidable surge of spiritual energy swept forward accompanied by a biting, gale-force wind. For Sui Yu, whose cultivation was capped at the Qi Condensation stage, blocking an attack of this caliber from the Foundation Establishment stage was simply impossible. No matter how swiftly he operated his movement techniques, he ultimately failed to dodge it, taking the blow head-on and getting sent flying backward.
While crashing down in a state of utter disarray, he violently spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, droplets of crimson blossoms splashing onto Yun Mu’s body with glaring vividness.
Before Geng Duan could even begin to gloat, two miserable shrieks suddenly erupted from behind him. When he spun around to look, he saw that the two Joyful Sect lackeys were being rapidly dragged away by an unknown force, vanishing into the night in the blink of an eye.
“What is that?!” Geng Duan panicked, defending himself as he retreated step by step, feeling as though some massive and terrifying ominous beast lay hidden beneath the oppressive night sky, capable of snuffing out lives if he let his guard down for even a second.
“Young Master, this subordinate will protect you as we leave this place first. Your safety is what matters most,” the remaining two Sound-Shattering Sect disciples flanked Geng Duan left and right, preparing to flee.
Regrettably, they no longer had a way out.
Something was skimming across the ground at lightning speed, charging straight toward them. The wind grew fiercer, rustling the branches and leaves with a swish-swish sound. Several thick, arm-like vine tendrils instantly coiled around the three individuals, dragging them straight backward without even pausing for a second.
[Honestly, this looks even more thrilling than riding a roller coaster!]
Yun Mu crawled out from Sui Yu’s embrace, gave his paws a wave, and vanished without leaving a single trace.
The ominous entity would definitely come back. They couldn’t just sit here and wait to die.
Yun Mu wanted to help the battered and bruised Sui Yu up, stretching out a paw to scratch twice at Sui Yu’s arm. Too funny, he literally couldn’t lift him up.
[We’re totally screwed. Aren’t we just marching straight to our deaths here after all this trouble?]
