After Moving in With the Aloof, Conservative Beauty - Chapter 11
Sitting across from each other at the dining table with a holographic screen floating between them, she took a gentle sip of freshly ground soy milk, savoring it slowly.
The screen was playing a video clip her assistant had compiled for her.
“According to reports, Gu Lingyi, founder of the Chiyin Group, was driven out of the Gu family residence in the dead of night.”
The video was in crisp high-definition. It showed Gu Lingyi standing at the front entrance as a massive suitcase flew out from the ancestral house and slammed hard against the ground.
It even captured the sharp, clear voice of her birth mother, Gu Ruhua:
“You unfilial girl! How dare you defy convention like this?! Have you forgotten all the lessons of our ancestors?! Get out of this house!”
The video cut off abruptly, transitioning straight into the morning stock market trends.
Ironically, after its founder was ousted from her own family, Chiyin Group’s stock didn’t tumble…it skyrocketed. By the time Gu Lingyi swallowed her last sip of soy milk, the share price had surged by over a hundred percent.
The rest of the video was filled with financial news. Gu Lingyi skimmed through it selectively while taking her time with breakfast.
At some point, the steak, chicken breast, and asparagus on her plate had all been sliced into perfect, bite-sized pieces.
She looked past the screen to the breakfast sitting on the other side of the table. If she remembered correctly, Jiang Yanqing’s portion had looked identical to hers…exquisitely prepared, beautifully plated, but completely uncut.
She had been so engrossed in the news that she hadn’t even noticed someone cutting her food for her.
Gu Lingyi was naturally easygoing and never made a fuss over small favors; she had a knack for feeling at home wherever she went. Swallowing the last bit of soy milk, she said softly, “Thank you, Director Jiang.”
Between last night and this morning, the two of them had exchanged countless thank you.
Jiang Yanqing looked up and offered a subtle nod. “Think nothing of it.”
Her expression remained as cold and distant as ever…showing not a single trace of the person who had just cooked breakfast for Gu Lingyi and thoughtfully cut her meal into convenient bites.
A faint flicker of emotion stirred in Gu Lingyi’s chest alongside a hint of confusion, but the background file Yan Ke had sent had already landed in her inbox. She needed to get to Bamboo High as soon as possible, leaving no time to dwell on it.
They took separate elevators downstairs.
Last night, in her rush to get upstairs, Gu Lingyi hadn’t bothered finding the underground garage and had simply left her car parked at the curb.
The moment she got in and started the engine, the AI assistant chimed with notifications for five illegal parking tickets.
She paid the fines and pulled up the background material she needed to review before her assignment today.
A female senior at Bamboo High had brought a strictly prohibited item…a product from Chiyin Group…onto campus without authorization. She had been caught and reported by a classmate, and was now facing disciplinary action from the school.
Bamboo High had summoned the girl’s parents to campus and was likely planning to expel her outright. Because of this, the student’s parent…a executive secretary from the President’s Office…was demanding that a high-level Chiyin executive show up in person to give an explanation:
Why was a minor able to purchase a Chiyin product in the first place?
On top of that, they demanded that Chiyin compensate the family for both the financial and emotional damages caused by the girl’s potential expulsion.
Gu Lingyi swung by a local branch garage first to swap vehicles. Moments later, a roaring sports car tore through the streets, bound for Bamboo High.
Yesterday evening, she had paused briefly at the school’s gates to drop off Jiang Yanqing and three other teachers. None of the four had invited her or Yan Ke to step inside and visit their alma mater.
Today, however, a high-ranking Chiyin executive was being summoned there by name.
Having received orders from his superiors, the male security guard raised the barrier and waved her through. For the first time since the Jiang family had taken over, Gu Lingyi was finally able to step foot back inside her old school.
In her rearview mirror, she caught the security guard’s gaze…a look of unvarnished lust, crude envy, and contempt.

Gu Lingyi’s face remained entirely expressionless. She hovered her fingertip over the ‘Send’ button for a second, then tapped it.

Once inside, the flashy red sports car synced with the campus traffic control system, automatically capping her speed at a crawling 15 kilometers per hour. Like a toy car, it glided sluggishly past the surrounding campus buildings.
Bamboo High had undergone a complete renovation after the Jiang family took charge. The campus was now a unified landscape of classic, traditional architecture, with no building exceeding three stories.
The most grand and dignified structure of them all was named Zhuzheng Building, perched atop the highest point of the terrain.
At that moment, a slender figure stood quietly on the steps of the Zhuzheng Building.
