After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love - Chapter 72
Although Ye Wenjin didn’t want to pay attention, she couldn’t escape Chu Yunsheng’s love for gossip.
When they had entered earlier, everyone had seen Ye Shuao—after all, they had once teamed up to confront her, so it wasn’t something they’d easily forget.
Even though they hadn’t met Yin Yu and Yin Feifei, who were standing beside Ye Shuao, a little thought made it obvious: they had to be Ye Shuao’s wife and stepdaughter. There was no one else it could be.
And now, with someone they disliked being targeted, how could they miss such a good show?
Chu Yunsheng was practically itching to rush out and watch the drama.
Though she was still eating, her eyes kept darting toward the door, clearly showing where her mind had already wandered.
Noticing this, Zhou Wuhua sighed almost imperceptibly and leaned closer to whisper, “Want to go take a look?”
Chu Yunsheng’s eyes lit up, and she immediately nodded. “Yes!”
With that, she sprang up energetically, dragging Zhou Wuhua along, and after a quick wave, the two vanished in a flash.
Rong Yunshu paused slightly, thought for two seconds, then also stood up to follow.
Ye Shuao looked surprised. “Yunshu? You want to watch the commotion too?”
Rong Yunshu replied slowly, “…Mm. Suddenly feel like it.”
Ye Wenjin could only nod. “Alright, then.”
Truthfully, she had assumed Rong Yunshu wouldn’t be interested. Who knew she also enjoyed gossip? It seemed she still didn’t understand her very well.
Rong Yunshu: “…”
How could she explain that with those two gone, staying behind alone would make her feel like a glaring third wheel?
Never mind. Let them think she liked gossip.
Rong Yunshu stepped out. She hadn’t been interested, but since she was already here, she might as well see what was going on.
The private room was now left with only Ye Wenjin and Jian Mo.
Ye Wenjin took a couple of bites of food, glanced toward the door, and felt a little tempted—but she hesitated.
Seeing this, Jian Mo shook her head helplessly. “A-Jin, let’s go.”
Ye Wenjin looked up. “Go where?”
Jian Mo stood and raised a brow slightly. “I want to go take a look too. Coming?”
Ye Wenjin smiled sheepishly but nodded honestly.
She knew Jian Mo was only saying she wanted to go because she could tell Ye Wenjin was curious but hesitant. After all, Jian Mo didn’t seem like the type to enjoy gossip at all.
This time, Ye Wenjin didn’t hesitate anymore. She stood and walked out with Jian Mo.
As soon as they stepped out, they could hear noise coming from not far away. It seemed chaotic outside—so much so that Ye Wenjin almost thought they’d walked into a marketplace.
Though, given the situation, it wasn’t far off.
Despite the commotion, hardly any of the diners had left. It just went to show that human nature was all about spectating. Though everyone maintained their decorum and didn’t crowd around for a closer look, Ye Wenjin could still tell that all attention was fixed on the unfolding drama.
Her gaze shifted, and she easily spotted the trio leisurely enjoying the show from an empty table.
So, she pulled Jian Mo over to join them.
Seeing the two of them come out, Chu Yunsheng was a little surprised, but she quickly launched into an enthusiastic explanation of what was happening.
Even though she had only stepped out a short while earlier, this woman had already gathered so much information. Truly, this was Chu Yunsheng in her element.
Ye Wenjin was utterly amazed, yet she listened with great seriousness.
After hearing the story, Ye Wenjin’s expression turned rather peculiar.
Because the matter was actually quite simple—Yin Yu had been scammed.
According to Chu Yunsheng, Yin Yu had likely purchased a reservation slot from someone, but the seller turned out to be a fraud. The seller had stolen all the original owner’s information and sold the reservation to Yin Yu.
And Yin Yu, perhaps too confident in herself, hadn’t bothered to verify anything before using the reservation to dine at the restaurant.
If that had been the end of it, things might not have escalated. However, the original owner of the reservation had also received a dining reminder yesterday and arrived excitedly, only to find their slot already taken. Naturally, they were furious.
The restaurant assured them that the matter would be thoroughly investigated, though it would take some time, and both the original owner and Yin Yu would be notified once there was a resolution.
After all, the restaurant bore some responsibility in this as well.
But the original owner refused to back down. This was a reservation she had waited so long for, and not only had someone else used it, but that someone happened to be a person she despised. There was no way she was going to let it slide.
Yes, it was only through Chu Yunsheng that Ye Wenjin learned this woman and Yin Yu actually had some history.
The original owner’s surname was Li, named Li Man. Initially, she and Yin Yu had business dealings and were on decent terms.
But later, Yin Yu suddenly arranged a marriage alliance between their younger generation and the Lin family. With this new connection, their business collaboration naturally shifted to the Lins.
At the time, the Lin family was in a much better position than the Yin family, so Yin Yu didn’t hesitate to cut Li Man out of the deal.
The agreed-upon cooperation fell through, and Yin Yu withdrew so abruptly that when Li Man found out, she immediately went to confront her. Instead of an explanation, she was met with scorn and ridicule from Yin Yu, and thus their feud was born.
Afterward, Yin Yu thrived through her partnership with the Lin family. But then the Lins made a critical misstep in a business decision, suffering massive losses that left them weakened.
At this point, Yin Yu began to worry that if the marriage alliance went through, she wouldn’t gain any benefits—instead, she might even be dragged down by the Lins. Yet she didn’t want to break the agreement outright, which was why she tried to push Ye Wenjin into taking the fall.
As for Yin Feifei, being an Alpha, she would only be married off to a more advantageous match if it came to that.
Meanwhile, over the years, Li Man had also flourished, even surpassing Yin Yu in influence.
Back then, Li Man’s company had struggled through a rough patch due to Yin Yu’s sudden betrayal, but she had gritted her teeth and pulled through, even seizing new opportunities along the way.
After their falling out, the two had rarely crossed paths in the same circles, and on the few occasions they did, they couldn’t stand the sight of each other.
This time, however, Li Man had finally caught Yin Yu in a compromising position. With old grudges resurfacing, she lost all restraint.
And so, the restaurant became a battleground between Li Man and Yin Yu.
Neither was willing to yield, and their argument grew increasingly heated.
As the one in the wrong, Yin Yu was clearly at a disadvantage against Li Man’s fury.
By the time Ye Wenjin and Jian Mo arrived, Yin Yu’s face was livid, looking as though she might pass out from rage.
But that wasn’t all. This Ms. Li was quite the character—she didn’t resort to vulgar language, yet her words struck indiscriminately, sweeping Yin Yu, Yin Feifei, and Ye Shuyao into her verbal assault. Now, all three of them wore expressions darker than the next.
Ye Shuyao looked like she wanted to say something but couldn’t get a word in edgewise, her expression quickly turning aggrieved, on the verge of tears.
Yin Feifei, on the other hand, was much more assertive, even managing to help Yin Yu trade insults with Li Man.
Yet, even with two against one, they couldn’t suppress Li Man, proving just how formidable this Madam Li was.
Ye Wenjin sighed inwardly, marveling at Madam Li’s strength and feeling an inexplicable admiration.
If she had such skills, she wouldn’t have to remain silent every time she faced Yin Yu and the others, her rebuttals always so feeble.
But now, watching the three of them being put in their place, Ye Wenjin felt a deep sense of satisfaction.
However, while the onlookers were enjoying the spectacle, Yin Yu was on the verge of losing it.
She never expected that the purchased spot would belong to that madwoman Li Man, and to run into her under such circumstances was just her luck.
Being hounded like this, Yin Yu felt she had lost all face.
Her expression darkened as she scanned the surroundings, only to find everyone watching the drama unfold, which only fueled her frustration. She wanted to leave but was blocked by Li Man.
Just as she was about to avert her gaze, she caught sight of a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye. Yin Yu focused and realized it was Ye Wenjin.
And beside her were several others, all watching the commotion with amusement.
How dare Ye Wenjin!
A surge of rage shot through Yin Yu, her breathing growing heavier. She gritted her teeth and glared at Ye Shuyao. “Look at the fine daughter you raised!”
Ye Shuyao was momentarily confused before following Yin Yu’s gaze and spotting Ye Wenjin not far away, watching their humiliation with keen interest. She instantly lost her composure.
Her aggrieved expression turned to shock, then deepened into even greater distress. Unable to hold back, she took a few steps toward Ye Wenjin, hesitating as if wanting to speak but stopping short. Her demeanor drew everyone’s attention, and the crowd immediately sensed there was more to the story.
Ye Wenjin noticed something was off the moment Ye Shuyao looked her way, but her reaction was a beat too slow. The next second, she was bombarded with stares from all directions.
Ye Wenjin: “…”
This was the wrong drama to stumble into. She should’ve just stayed away.
Now, she had become part of the spectacle.
Jian Mo’s expression cooled as she turned her gaze toward Ye Shuyao.
Under Jian Mo’s stare, Ye Shuyao did flinch and take a step back, but she seemed to steel herself and kept her eyes fixed on Ye Wenjin.
Ye Wenjin frowned, knowing Ye Shuyao must be plotting something unpleasant. She immediately considered leaving, but before she could, Ye Shuyao called out to her.
“Ah Jin, haven’t you forgiven your mother yet?”
The onlookers’ eyes lit up instantly, their gazes darting between the two, eager to uncover more juicy details.
Well, well—this scene just got even more interesting with the daughter involved.
Curious eyes turned toward Ye Wenjin, everyone wondering what kind of grudge lay between them.
Ye Wenjin let out a humorless laugh.
“We’ve already severed ties, Madam Ye. Have you forgotten?”
Ye Shuyao paled, clearly recalling the matter.
Yet she ignored the topic and instead put on a pained expression. “I know you’re angry with me. Mom knows she was wrong. Ah Jin, won’t you forgive me?”
Faced with her pleading gaze, Ye Wenjin felt a complicated mix of emotions.
She certainly understood what Ye Shuyao meant by calling out to her in front of everyone—nothing more than wanting her to beg Jian Mo to step in and resolve this farce.
But how could Ye Shuyao possibly think that after everything she had done, and with their relationship already severed, she would still help?
Ye Wenjin sometimes truly felt that Ye Shuyao was naive. Even at her age, she remained so naive—naive enough to believe that a submissive attitude could smooth everything over.
Yet her silence led everyone to assume she was reluctant, that she wanted to help Ye Shuyao.
So, Chu Yunsheng was the first to lose patience, tugging at Ye Wenjin’s sleeve and whispering, “Wenjin! You can’t agree to this—have you forgotten how she treated you?”
Zhou Wuhua looked at her with confusion, hesitating to speak.
Even Rong Yunshu frowned. “Wenjin?”
Only Jian Mo, seeing her pensive expression, showed no concern.
Her A-Jin wasn’t the type to repay kindness with cruelty—especially not under these circumstances.
Sure enough, when Ye Wenjin snapped out of her thoughts and noticed the odd looks from the others, she immediately realized their misunderstanding. “What are you all thinking? Relax, I’m not that noble.”
The group collectively sighed in relief. They had been worried she might impulsively wade into this mess, but thankfully, Ye Wenjin’s mind was clear.
Ye Wenjin simply found it pitiable—how utterly defeated Ye Shuyao’s life seemed. Even in such a situation, she could still instinctively turn to her for help, all for Yin Yu’s sake.
How… truly tragic.
