- Chapter 65 - The Second Day of the Heat Cycle
The next morning, Ye Wenjin was awakened by a knock at the door. Because Jian Mo’s heat cycle had left her restless, Ye Wenjin hadn’t slept well either. Her mind was still foggy when she woke, but she quickly threw on her robe and went to answer the door, careful not to disturb Jian Mo.
Outside was room service. After a moment’s hesitation, Ye Wenjin declined and turned back into the room just in time to see Jian Mo slowly opening her eyes.
“Sister? You’re awake? How are you feeling?”
Jian Mo still seemed dazed, her gaze unfocused.
Ye Wenjin didn’t rush her, quietly waiting for her to regain her senses.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long for Jian Mo to fully wake up. She turned her head slightly toward Ye Wenjin and murmured, “Xiao Jin?”
Her head throbbed, and her body ached. Only now, as her memories returned, did Jian Mo realize what had happened. The events of the previous night flashed through her mind, and her eyes instantly turned cold.
Ye Wenjin, closely watching her expression, tensed at the shift. “Sister, what exactly happened last night? I couldn’t find you anywhere when I got back. You didn’t answer my calls or messages.”
Jian Mo took a deep breath and looked at Ye Wenjin, speaking softly, “Xiao Jin, where did you go last night?”
Ye Wenjin froze. “Didn’t you see the messages I sent you?”
Jian Mo’s expression shifted slightly. “You sent me messages?”
Ye Wenjin quickly nodded. “Last night, I was waiting outside for you to come out, but Tong Tong suddenly showed up and said someone was looking for me.
At first, I was wary—I thought it might be a trap—but the person who wanted to see me… was Guan You, my so-called other mother.
I didn’t know why she’d suddenly appeared here, but I knew it couldn’t be anything good. I was worried that if she barged in and we ended up arguing, it might affect you, so I decided to go see what she wanted.
Tong Tong wasn’t lying—Guan You really was there, waiting in the small garden outside the hallway. I spoke with her briefly, but I quickly realized something was off, so I had a server stall her while I left.
But when I got back, you were already gone. You didn’t reply to my messages, and I couldn’t find you anywhere. I was terrified.
Then it occurred to me that since Tong Tong had deliberately sent me away, she must have had something to do with your disappearance. So I went to find Miss Tong Yan.”
“After Miss Tong Yan and I questioned Tong Tong, we realized she’d been used.
Somehow, Miss Tong had gotten wind of Guan You’s plan to humiliate me.
I was frantic about your safety, but since Tong Tong didn’t have any more leads, Miss Tong Yan went to check the surveillance footage. That’s when I got your message and found out you were on the third floor.”
By the time she finished recounting the night’s events, Ye Wenjin was trembling uncontrollably—the kind of shaking that comes from extreme tension.
She had been terrified at the thought of what might have happened if she hadn’t found Jian Mo.
In such a massive venue, Jian Mo had vanished without a trace. If not for a shred of remaining rationality, Ye Wenjin might have called the police.
And when she finally found her, Jian Mo was in the throes of an unexpected heat cycle. Ye Wenjin knew then that something must have happened to trigger it prematurely.
Hearing this, Jian Mo’s eyes darkened.
She reached out and gently stroked Ye Wenjin’s head, soothing her softly, “Xiao Jin, don’t be afraid. I’m fine now.”
Ye Wenjin quietly savored the warmth atop her head, calming the emotions that had been stirred up once again.
“Sister, what exactly happened last night? Can you tell me?”
There was a hint of nervousness and unease on her face, afraid the other might not want to share.
Fortunately, Jian Mo showed no intention of hiding it. Instead, she looked at her and spoke slowly, “After I finished talking with Tong Yan and came out, I didn’t see you. I thought you’d gone to the restroom. But when I checked, you weren’t there, and there were no messages on my phone. That’s when I knew something was wrong.”
“I know Xiao Jin isn’t the type to leave without a word. Even if something came up, you’d definitely tell me. Even if you didn’t want to disturb our conversation, you wouldn’t just disappear without saying anything. So, I immediately planned to check the surveillance to see where you’d gone—I was worried you might be in danger.”
As she spoke, a cold glint flashed in Jian Mo’s eyes. “Just as I was about to, I suddenly caught your scent—coming from the second floor. Even though I knew it was strange, I followed it, only for the scent to then drift from the third floor.”
Jian Mo frowned tightly. “I knew something was off, but I still went up.
Then, the moment I stepped onto the third floor, an unusually sweet fragrance hit me. I realized immediately what was happening.
Because I recognized that smell—it was an inducer, a chemical designed to trigger an Omega’s heat prematurely.”
By this point, her expression had turned icy, and Ye Wenjin felt her heart clench, barely able to control her emotions. She desperately wanted to know what happened next.
Jian Mo seemed to sense her unease and gave her a reassuring look.
“By the time I realized it was an inducer, I’d already inhaled quite a bit. Whoever was using it had increased the dosage. Almost instantly, I felt my body reacting. After quickly weighing the risks, I chose to head to the nearest restroom and locked the door.”
“Almost as soon as I entered, footsteps sounded outside. I wanted to call you right away, but my phone showed no signal. I guessed someone must’ve brought a signal jammer—ha, what a well-laid plan.”
Ye Wenjin suddenly understood. “No wonder you didn’t get my messages—the signal was blocked.”
Jian Mo nodded.
After the initial shock, Ye Wenjin’s expression darkened. She could guess what happened next.
Whoever had been following Jian Mo, unable to open the door, lingered in frustration before finally leaving. The moment they did, Jian Mo noticed her phone had signal again and immediately messaged her.
“But who could it be? Do you have any guesses, Sister?”
Jian Mo looked at her and slowly shook her head. “Not yet. But… no matter who it is, they won’t escape.”
Ye Wenjin was still worried, but she trusted Jian Mo. If she wanted to investigate, nothing would remain hidden.
For now, though, no amount of urgency would help.
Because a heat cycle lasts more than just a day.
After talking for a while and reaching no conclusions, they decided to set it aside for the time being. Then, they ordered breakfast, and only after eating did they feel somewhat better.
Ye Wenjin pondered, “Sister, your heat will last a few more days. Should we go home?”
She couldn’t shake the feeling that the hotel wasn’t entirely safe.
Jian Mo’s expression softened slightly as she nodded. “Let’s go back. I want to go home.”
Only then did Ye Wenjin sense that Jian Mo seemed… fragile.
If it had been before her heat, she wouldn’t have shown such an expression. Ye Wenjin saw it clearly—Jian Mo had just flashed a trace of unease.
Ye Wenjin’s heart clenched, suddenly aching for her.
She had been mistaken. An Omega’s heat was unbearable; even with an Alpha present, they would still suffer. The physical discomfort would inevitably affect their mental state.
It was just that after Jian Mo woke up, she had acted no differently than before, so Ye Wenjin had unconsciously overlooked the issue—until that faint hint of hidden unease surfaced.
Jian Mo was far from as composed as she appeared.
Ye Wenjin gently embraced her. “Mm, let’s go back. I’ll contact Aunt Wu right away.”
Jian Mo’s eyelashes trembled slightly as she silently returned the hug.
After another wave of heat was relieved, Jian Mo, utterly exhausted, fell into a deep sleep.
Seizing the moment, Ye Wenjin quickly communicated with Aunt Wu.
Upon hearing the news, the housekeeper was equally shocked. Knowing this was no small matter, she immediately made arrangements. In less than an hour, a private jet was parked on the hotel’s rooftop.
Ye Wenjin carried Jian Mo, swiftly and without hindrance, all the way to the rooftop.
Soon, the plane took off, leaving the scene far behind.
Yet Ye Wenjin didn’t dare relax for even a moment. She held Jian Mo tightly, monitoring her condition, ready to release pheromones to soothe her at the slightest sign of discomfort.
Fortunately, the return journey was smooth, and they arrived at the villa by afternoon.
Because of Jian Mo’s heat, Aunt Wu had specifically given all the staff time off. She knew Jian Mo disliked having too many people in the villa during her vulnerable state—it made her feel extremely insecure.
Thus, after arranging the flight upon Ye Wenjin’s call, she had everyone leave, including herself, who would depart once they arrived.
Only…
“Miss Wenjin, Miss Mo doesn’t like having people in the villa during her heat, so taking care of her will be your responsibility. But don’t worry, I’ll arrange for three meals a day to be delivered.”
As she spoke, Aunt Wu’s face was filled with unconcealed worry.
Not that she doubted Ye Wenjin’s ability to care for Jian Mo—she just couldn’t shake her unease.
Ye Wenjin noticed her concern and quickly reassured her, “Aunt Wu, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Sister.”
Aunt Wu could only nod and add, “If anything unexpected happens, Miss Wenjin, please remember to inform me.”
Understanding the gravity, Ye Wenjin nodded solemnly.
Once everything was settled, the villa fell into utter silence.
Unlike the usual quiet she was accustomed to, this time, aside from the two of them, there was truly no one else left.
It was eerily still.
Ye Wenjin took a deep breath, deliberately leaving some lights on before heading upstairs to check her phone and update Rong Yunshu and the others.
With so many sudden developments, she had completely forgotten.
After explaining the situation and promising to treat everyone to a meal upon their return, Ye Wenjin finally relaxed.
They hadn’t returned all night, nor had they sent any messages, leaving their friends deeply worried. Learning that Jian Mo’s heat had arrived unexpectedly only heightened their anxiety.
It wasn’t until Ye Wenjin said they were already home that they eased up slightly.
Having reassured her friends, Ye Wenjin felt a bit more at ease. She pushed open the door to check on Jian Mo.
Just as she opened the door, she was abruptly pulled inside. By the time she realized what was happening, Jian Mo had already thrown herself into her arms, clinging tightly.
The room’s lights had been turned off by Jian Mo at some point, and with the curtains still drawn, the space was dimly lit.
Ye Wenjin could clearly feel the scorching heat radiating from Jian Mo’s body and instantly understood—she was having another episode.
Gently cupping Jian Mo’s face, Ye Wenjin whispered soothingly, “Don’t be afraid, sister. I’m here.”
“It hurts… A-Jin, it hurts so much…”
Her consciousness was hazy, words spilling from her lips in broken fragments.
Heart aching, Ye Wenjin kissed her tenderly, soothing Jian Mo’s restless emotions.
The dim room fostered endless ambiguity. Once assured of their safety, Jian Mo surrendered completely, drowning in the feverish heat of her condition.
Heavy breaths of desire rose intermittently, only subsiding when the last sliver of daylight faded.
But the night was still long.
