- After Mistaking My Stepsister’s First Love
- Chapter 63 - The Arrival of the Mating Season
Having successfully shaken off Guan You’s pestering, Ye Wenjin felt the tension in her heart ease slightly.
No matter who had brought Guan You in, since they had arranged to meet in the small garden, it was clear that the person behind it didn’t want Guan You wandering around.
After all, aside from invited guests, ordinary people couldn’t enter this place.
And Guan You’s attire made it obvious she wasn’t an invited guest. So when Ye Wenjin encountered a server, she mentioned her suspicion that Guan You might have sneaked in.
To ensure no disruptions at the banquet, the server would undoubtedly restrain Guan You to prevent her from causing any trouble.
In the past, Ye Wenjin might have hesitated because of Guan You’s identity.
But now, she felt no trace of sympathy left.
Especially at this moment—Guan You suddenly seeking her out couldn’t be a coincidence. Ye Wenjin knew it wasn’t simple, so she remained completely indifferent to whatever predicament Guan You found herself in.
Once she had left everything behind, Ye Wenjin quickened her pace, eager to return to Jian Mo.
She wondered if her sister and the others were still talking.
Glancing at her phone and seeing no messages from Jian Mo, Ye Wenjin grew somewhat worried.
However, when she returned to the balcony and found it empty, her heart sank.
A bad premonition took hold, and her expression darkened. She immediately picked up her phone to call Jian Mo, but the line only rang endlessly without being answered.
Something felt wrong. When the call disconnected due to no response, Ye Wenjin’s brows furrowed sharply, and her gaze swept through the crowd.
Fortunately, the person she was looking for hadn’t left yet and stood out enough that she didn’t take long to spot her.
Without hesitation, Ye Wenjin strode toward her.
“Miss Tong Yan, may I have a word with you in private?”
Tong Yan looked surprised but nodded.
The two moved to a secluded spot. After glancing around, Ye Wenjin spoke, “Miss Tong, have you seen my sister? You were just talking with her earlier.”
Tong Yan’s expression turned puzzled. “She didn’t go looking for you? About three minutes ago, President Jian and I finished our conversation, but I didn’t notice where she went afterward.”
Ye Wenjin’s face suddenly turned grave, a flicker of panic rising in her chest. But she knew she couldn’t afford to panic now. Taking a deep breath, she fixed her gaze on Tong Yan. “Miss Tong, may I ask—were you aware that your younger sister deliberately sent me away earlier?”
Tong Yan’s expression shifted. “What do you mean? She sent you away?”
She paused, murmuring unconsciously, “No wonder I didn’t see you when I came out.”
Ye Wenjin studied Tong Yan’s reaction carefully but found no attempt to conceal her emotions—only genuine surprise.
“Yes, she used the excuse that someone wanted to see me to lead me away. I can’t say who that person was, but based on my brief understanding of her, I doubt Miss Tong had any good intentions in relaying that message.”
Seeing the confusion in Tong Yan’s eyes, Ye Wenjin cut straight to the point. “To be honest, when my sister and I, along with a few friends, were traveling here earlier, we had a minor conflict with your younger sister. So I have reason to suspect that she sent me away to do something. And now, I can’t reach my sister. Miss Tong, can you contact your sister?”
Tong Yan’s eyes turned icy as she practically spat out two words through gritted teeth, “Tong Tong—”
She knew exactly what her younger sister was like. Logically, she shouldn’t be this furious over the words of an outsider, but…
She had finally managed to secure a collaboration with Jian Mo. If Tong Tong’s stupidity ruined everything…
Whether Tong Tong was the mastermind or not, if anything happened to Jian Mo, not only would the partnership fall through, but they might also face serious consequences.
At this moment, Tong Yan genuinely wanted to strangle Tong Tong.
They had been wrong—indulging Tong Tong’s behavior all this time, always cleaning up the messes she caused, which had now led to such a colossal disaster.
If it weren’t for their mother’s constant soft-heartedness, Tong Tong wouldn’t have turned out like this.
But there was no time to dwell on that now. Tong Yan swiftly pulled out her phone to contact Tong Tong.
Fortunately, Tong Tong answered the call.
After confirming her location, Tong Yan and Ye Wenjin rushed to where Tong Tong was.
When Tong Tong received the call, she had been clueless. But the moment she saw Tong Yan and Ye Wenjin approaching together, both with grim expressions, she suddenly sensed that something was terribly wrong.
“Where is Jian Mo?”
Ye Wenjin didn’t waste words, cutting straight to the chase.
Tong Tong froze at the question, frowning. “Why are you asking me? How would I know where she is?”
Ye Wenjin stepped closer, locking eyes with her. “Answer me. Who told you to keep me away? Yin Feifei?”
A flicker of surprise crossed Tong Tong’s face, but she stubbornly refused to speak.
Ye Wenjin felt a surge of rage boiling inside her.
But before she could act, a sharp, crisp slap suddenly shattered the silence.
For a moment, the world seemed to stand still.
Ye Wenjin was momentarily stunned, realizing that Tong Yan had just slapped Tong Tong.
Clearly, Tong Tong hadn’t expected to be hit either. She stood frozen, her hand pressed to her cheek in disbelief.
Tong Yan’s eyes were filled with disappointment, her voice icy. “Didn’t I warn you not to cause any more trouble? And yet, what have you done now?”
Tong Tong jerked her head up. “You hit me!”
Tong Yan’s expression remained indifferent. “Mother told me that if you messed up again, I didn’t have to hold back.”
Tong Tong’s eyes widened in shock. “That’s impossible! Mom would never say that to me!”
Tong Yan had no patience for further argument. “After this, start preparing to go abroad. Right now, tell us exactly what you’ve done. Don’t test my patience any further.”
Tong Tong’s defiance wavered as she met Tong Yan’s emotionless gaze. For the first time, she felt a pang of fear.
This time, something was different. Tong Yan’s expression…
She was truly furious.
Tong Tong’s pupils contracted, and before she knew it, the words spilled out.
“I really didn’t do anything! Yin Feifei just said she had a way to annoy Ms. Ye, so I helped out a little. I have no idea where President Jian is.”
At these words, a storm seemed to brew in Ye Wenjin’s eyes.
Tong Yan also sensed trouble. While Tong Tong hadn’t directly harmed Jian Mo, she had still played a part in this.
Her sister was a troublemaker, but at least she wouldn’t go as far as kidnapping someone. The Yin Feifei she mentioned, however, was highly suspicious.
Judging by Ye Wenjin’s expression, she definitely knew this person. It was quite possible they had some prior conflict, and Tong Tong might have been used as a pawn in their dispute.
But the immediate priority was to find out where Jian Mo had gone.
Tong Yan sighed inwardly but maintained a composed demeanor. “Don’t panic, Miss Ye. I’ll go check the surveillance footage,” she said before promptly making arrangements over the phone.
Ye Wenjin took a deep breath, her nerves stretched taut. As she waited for Tong Yan’s update, she kept her eyes glued to her phone, afraid of missing any message from Jian Mo.
Time ticked by, and Ye Wenjin’s anxiety steadily climbed to its peak. Just as she was about to go search on her own, her phone suddenly vibrated.
She hurriedly opened the message and immediately stood up. “Miss Tong, take me to the third-floor restroom.”
Without asking further questions, Tong Yan quickly led her upstairs.
The entire third floor was reserved as guest rooms for attendees of the banquet. Though Jian Mo and Ye Wenjin had no plans to stay the night—intending to return to their villa after the event—Jian Mo had abruptly messaged that she was in the third-floor restroom.
Those few short words sent Ye Wenjin’s mind into chaos, conjuring up all sorts of unsettling scenarios. She bit her tongue, forcing herself to stay focused, and quickened her pace.
The third floor was eerily quiet, their hurried footsteps the only sound breaking the silence. Ye Wenjin’s face was tense, her heart pounding until Tong Yan pointed ahead. “The restroom is right there.”
Ye Wenjin rushed forward, only to find the door locked. Her expression darkened as she knocked. “Jiejie? Are you in there?”
Silence.
Frowning, she was about to knock again when her expression suddenly shifted. She took a deep breath and turned to Tong Yan. “Miss Tong, could you arrange a room for me?”
Though Ye Wenjin tried to remain calm, Tong Yan sensed something was amiss. But she wasn’t one to pry and nodded before swiftly making the arrangements.
The room was soon ready. Tong Yan glanced at the locked restroom door and tactfully said, “I’ll take my leave then. Contact me anytime if you need anything.”
Ye Wenjin exhaled slowly and exchanged contact details with Tong Yan. Only after watching her disappear down the hallway did she speak again. “Jiejie, there’s no one else now. Open the door.”
The wait felt interminable until, finally, a soft click sounded. Ye Wenjin slipped inside and was nearly overwhelmed by the sudden rush of cold plum fragrance—a scent that threatened to shatter her composure.
Earlier, though Jian Mo hadn’t responded, Ye Wenjin had caught a whiff of that unmistakable scent: Jian Mo’s pheromones.
Jian Mo was indeed inside, but her pheromones were leaking out—so strongly that Ye Wenjin could smell them even through the closed door.
Either her pheromone disorder had flared up, or… she was in heat.
Ye Wenjin clenched her fists, a strong intuition telling her it was the latter. Jian Mo’s heat had arrived.
But she distinctly remembered Jian Mo saying it wasn’t due yet. Something felt off, but right now, Jian Mo’s condition took precedence.
Without another thought, she stepped forward and lifted Jian Mo into her arms, only to find her flushed with feverish heat, her consciousness hazy.
Then, for a brief moment, Ye Wenjin detected a sharp, defensive edge in Jian Mo’s pheromones.
She was on guard.
Reacting swiftly, Ye Wenjin released her own pheromones and whispered softly, “Jiejie, it’s me.”
The moment Ye Wenjin’s voice sounded, Jian Mo’s eyes briefly focused.
“Xiao… Jin?”
Ye Wenjin quickened her steps. “It’s me, sister. It’s okay now. Let me take you back to the room first. Your condition is very dangerous right now, alright?”
Her tone was full of reassurance, and Ye Wenjin could sense the sudden relaxation in Jian Mo’s expression.
Without hesitation, she carried Jian Mo out of the bathroom. “Sister, hold on a little longer, okay?”
Jian Mo’s consciousness was already hazy, but upon hearing Ye Wenjin’s words, she struggled to stay alert, suppressing the release of her pheromones.
Ye Wenjin didn’t dare delay for even a second. She could feel Jian Mo trembling faintly in her arms, along with the increasingly intense scent of her pheromones.
Fortunately, the room Tong Yan had arranged wasn’t far. As soon as she found it, she rushed inside without hesitation.
Only after locking the door did Ye Wenjin finally relax, carefully placing Jian Mo on the bed.
“Sister, it’s okay now. We’re in the room. It’s safe here. How do you feel?”
Ye Wenjin asked anxiously.
But Jian Mo, upon hearing that the environment was secure, immediately stopped holding back.
The fragrance of winter plum instantly filled the entire room, with Ye Wenjin bearing the brunt of the overwhelming scent.
Ye Wenjin’s breath hitched, a fleeting illusion that she might drown in the intoxicating aroma.
Yet Jian Mo, deep in her heat cycle, was unusually proactive. Before Ye Wenjin could even get a response, she was already drawn into the depths of desire.
And so, Ye Wenjin no longer resisted. Leaning down, she pressed a tender kiss to Jian Mo’s lips, their pheromones entwining as one.
