- Chapter 60 - The Queen’s Banquet, The Secretary-General’s Return
A wave of searing pain surged through her skull.
Countless images flashed before her eyes:
The polite estrangement of a contractual marriage.
The secret stirrings in her heart after being drawn in by Yan Qingruo’s allure, alongside the constant dread that she might regain her memories.
The piercing cruelty of being rejected at the airport.
The despair of the car crash, the numbing pain.
And finally—
That woman’s cold, merciless voice:
“Let the wolves by her side tear her apart. Break her legs so she can never stand tall again.”
Jin Yunxi slipped on her cold gold-rimmed glasses, rising from the bed where they had been entangled all night. Her gaze lingered for a moment on the woman lying amidst the sheets, but not a trace of warmth remained.
Yan Qingruo woke to an empty bed. Her fingers brushed against the burning bite mark at the nape of her neck, her body still faintly swollen and tender. Sweetness and satisfaction welled up in her heart.
There had been no cleanup after the storm. The sheets were cool beneath her fingers, but the memory of heated breaths, Yunxi’s husky gasps, and her own long, unrestrained moans surged back like a tide.
Face flushed, she hugged herself tightly, pressing her palm over her reddened peak where teeth had nearly broken the skin. The memory struck her: guiding Yunxi in her weakened state, taking on that forbidden role, even coaxing the Alpha to plant a seed so they could have another child together. The thought rushed hotly through her mind.
The wilder the moment, the sharper the shame after.
Yan Qingruo buried her burning cheeks beneath the quilt, her ears feverishly hot.
But when she reached out to the other side of the bed, her fingers met only the cold wrinkles of abandoned sheets. Her chest tightened.
A draft from the half-open window sent a note fluttering to her feet. Black ink carved deep into the paper:
“Yan Qingruo, do not come looking for me again. —Jin Yunxi”
The very words she had once thrown at her Alpha were now returned without mercy.
The instant her fingers traced those characters, her breath caught. She clutched the paper so tightly her knuckles whitened, the edge cutting deep into her palm. A chilling realization drenched her like ice water—
Yunxi had regained her memory.
Ah Yun had heard her conversation with her mother.
Stumbling to her feet, she stepped barefoot onto the freezing floor. Her throat tightened as she stared at the empty room, eyes blurring with red.
No. This isn’t how it ends.
Jin Yunxi, don’t you dare think I’ll stop coming for you. And you are absolutely forbidden to leave me on your own.

The heavy palace doors swung open with a resounding boom. Jin Yunxi stepped into the hall bathed in morning light.
Her black suit was immaculate, her gold-rimmed glasses gleaming. Behind that composed exterior, the scars buried deep in her heart were frozen beneath layers of ice.
She never once glanced back at the house she had shared with Yan Qingruo. All those beautiful, fleeting memories of amnesia scattered at her feet like autumn leaves, trampled without care.
She did not look back.
In the royal palace of Yatran, for the first time, the proud Queen lost her composure.
“Jin Yunxi… you’re alive?” Her voice echoed through the vast hall, trembling in a way even she did not notice.
You’re alive. Thank the heavens.
But Yunxi merely rose with calm indifference, her gaze behind the glasses sharp enough to freeze steel.
“Your Majesty, it’s time we discussed the matter of the Jin Corporation.”
The Queen’s relief turned quickly to displeasure. Lin Ruxi had pressed aggressively against the Jin Group while Yunxi was gone, and it weighed on her.
Lin Ruxi lowered her eyes, her usual poise slipping into rare awkwardness. “I thought… I truly thought you were gone. I have no real affection for the Jin family.” She bit her lip, shifting the subject. “That car accident—what really happened?”
“Wei Ailun’s handiwork.” Yunxi dropped a dashcam and a stack of contracts onto the table.
“Three percent of Jin Corporation’s shares in exchange for Prime Minister Wei Ailun’s downfall—and his assets seized.” She paused, her glasses flashing to obscure the emotions in her eyes. “If Your Majesty still trusts me, I remain your
Secretary-General.”
Lin Ruxi’s eyes lit faintly. She rose from her throne, step by deliberate step, until she was close enough to seize Yunxi’s wrist. Warm breath brushed against her ear.
“And if,” she murmured, “what I want is not just your loyalty?”
She wanted Yunxi’s heart as well.
From the shadows came the faint rustle of fabric.
Little A froze behind a pillar, clutching her shawl so tightly her nails dug bloody crescents into her palm. She stared at the Queen’s scarlet-painted fingertips tenderly tracing Yunxi’s pale, flawless cheek, and her eyes burned hot.
So the legendary white moonlight of Her Majesty’s heart was even more dazzling than what was shown on screen.
“Your Majesty already has someone to devote your affections to,” Yunxi said, turning her face ever so slightly, eyes flicking toward Little A. “Why persist in me?”
She should not have said it. The Queen’s temper flared instantly.
“Because you lied to me!”
A metal flash arced through the air—the USB drive landed harshly on the table.
“Take it back and listen for yourself. Listen to what you told Yan Qingruo. How much you adore her Omega pheromone’s scent? I heard every word, clear as day!”
Lin Ruxi hadn’t dared replay it. Once was enough—the recording of Yunxi’s intimacy with Yan Qingruo was a thorn lodged in her throat, unbearable to swallow, impossible to spit out.
And now, with the woman herself before her, she couldn’t help but demand, brow furrowed in pain:
“Jin Yunxi, you’re no abstinent prude, nor do you detest Omegas. Why did you deceive me back then? Am I so repulsive to you?”
“Or was Yatran’s most beautiful Omega too tempting? Did Yan Qingruo’s allure make you abandon your supposed taste for Betas and fall into her arms instead?”
Yunxi bent to pick up the USB drive—but froze mid-motion.
Images from last night surged through her mind. Yan Qingruo’s lips, swollen from kisses, begging her to mark her again and again. The way her body tightened helplessly around her, clinging desperately, sobbing as she pleaded, “Don’t leave me.”
She bit down hard on her lower lip, suppressing the unwelcome memories. Behind the lenses, her eyes darkened, and she masked it all with a soft, self-mocking laugh.
“Just words meant to coax an Omega. Your Majesty actually believed them?”
Lin Ruxi arched a brow. “Tell me—do you still like that woman?”
Her final syllable lingered, carrying a probing, elusive edge.
Jin Yunxi lowered her gaze. After a pause, she tugged up one corner of her lips in a bitter smile. Her throat bobbed before she let out words as cold as ice:
“Those feelings were false from the beginning. How could there be any truth left now?”
“Your Majesty, forgive me for intruding.”
Little A’s voice trembled as she backed away. She had only come because she noticed the Queen hadn’t brought a shawl. For years she had tended to every detail of Lin Ruxi’s life with meticulous care, never leaving such matters to anyone else.
Lin Ruxi’s brows drew together, her regal aura instantly filling the room. “Did I summon you?”
For a moment, she faltered, then sighed as though unwilling to be cruel. She beckoned with one hand.
“Take this.”
A universal black card, unlimited in credit.
“Little A, you’ve served at my side long enough. It’s time for you to leave Yatran. The scenery in other countries is just as beautiful.”
The words were light, almost casual, yet they hit Little A like a blow. She stumbled back half a step.
The tenderness of brushing out the Queen’s long hair in the quiet of midnight, the careful embraces they had shared in bed—now all of it condensed into the crushing weight of that single card.
“Your Majesty!” Little A’s eyes brimmed with tears. In her heart, she had long since ceased to see Lin Ruxi merely as her sovereign. More times than she could count, she had wanted to whisper her name softly—Ruxi. But she dared not.
One indulgence, she feared, would bring only exile and banishment.
She was twelve years younger than Lin Ruxi, yet in her heart she had already claimed the Queen as her Omega.
She knew she was unworthy. And yet, all these years, the Queen had allowed no Alpha or Omega near her side but her. How could Little A not nurture a sliver of foolish hope?
That hope had evaporated with Jin Yunxi’s return, rekindled with her death, and finally—shattered into dust with her resurrection.
For the first time, the Queen seemed startled. Never before had she seen Little A weep. It was usually Little A who left her in tears on the sheets.
But with Jin Yunxi before her, Lin Ruxi only bit her lip and said firmly:
“Go.”
…
“Yunxi, you once promised me—you wouldn’t lie, or else…” Her voice faltered. “Do you remember?”
Jin Yunxi nodded. She had lied to the Queen. Now the Queen would surely punish her.
“I won’t punish you. But you must agree to one condition.”
“Forgive me,” Jin Yunxi cut her off before she could continue. “If it means being with you, I cannot.” She refused to look back on the past. And the woman she was now would never again allow herself to waver.
Lin Ruxi reached out, cupping Jin Yunxi’s face.
“If you won’t be with me, then give me a child instead. Together, we’ll bear the heir to the Empire—endowed with the finest genes of you and me both.”
An SS-rank Omega and an SS-rank Alpha—
the perfect descendant.
“Jin Yunxi, this is the price of deceiving me. And it is the condition you must fulfill.”

Jin Yunxi’s return threw Yatran’s political stage into turmoil. Prime Minister Wei Ailun was forced to step down.
He cowered in the shadow of a grandfather clock, moonlight crawling across his gaunt face like a shroud of deathly pallor.
The prison inspector, Jones, had barely closed the door before Wei lunged out like a cornered beast.
“Jones! You have to help me.”
Jones wrenched his arm free, frowning, though his tone feigned helplessness.
“Prime Minister Wei, it’s not that I won’t help you. I can’t even keep myself afloat.”
Welts from the lash marred Wei Ailun’s wrists. He clutched at Jones with desperate strength.
“I’ll give you a billion. I’ve hidden a fortune on an island. Just help me—”
“Help you regain your post?” Jones scoffed. He knew he had no such power.
“Not regain.” Wei Ailun threw back his head and laughed, his wild cackles scattering the birds outside the window.
His eyes gleamed like a wolf’s as he stared at the night sky.
“Yatran… it’s time for a change.”

The crystal chandeliers bathed the grand hall in brilliance, violins weaving melodies into the air. At last, the massive doors swung open from both sides.
A woman, her arm entwined with Jin Yunxi’s, stepped gracefully into the light. The silver threads of her haute couture gown shimmered like a river of stars.
This lavish banquet had been arranged by Queen Lin Ruxi herself, and for the invited few, attendance was the highest of honors.
As the violins swelled, the sight of the woman at Jin Yunxi’s side sparked a ripple of whispers.
“My God… the Queen herself—and she’s entering arm in arm with Jin Yunxi.”
What an extraordinary honor.
The gossip swirled without pause. Whatever these two were, their relationship was anything but simple. The rumors circulating among the people—everyone had heard them.
Tsk.
Both Alphas, yet standing together as though newlyweds, perfectly matched.
Meanwhile, in the corner, a woman in a half-mask caught the light—her figure exquisite, her presence magnetic. At the sight of Jin Yunxi escorting the Queen inside, the champagne flute in her hand struck the tray with a sharp clang. The sound rang out, trembling with pain and panic.
