Yan Qingruo: …
Was Jin Yunxi sleepwalking? She wasn’t sure. But from what she knew, sleepwalkers usually couldn’t hold a coherent conversation.
Still uncertain, Yan Qingruo reached out and gently cupped Jin Yunxi’s cheek, calling softly, “Ah Yun?”
The girl pouted, reluctant. “Mommy should call me Xi’er. Why suddenly call me Ah Yun?”
Her spoiled, coquettish tone was followed by her pressing her soft cheek into the warmth of Yan Qingruo’s palm. Her face was tender, obedient, so unbearably cute that Yan Qingruo’s eyes widened. Her heart softened—she had never seen this side of Jin Yunxi before.
So adorable.
“Mommy , it was Xi’er’s fault before. I shouldn’t have switched out your antidepressants, making you feel worse and worse, and in the end even…”
Tears gathered at the corners of her eyes. “Don’t leave me, Mommy. Don’t leave me alone in this world. It’s so cold, so lonely here…”
Yan Qingruo’s chest melted into a pool of softness. She remembered Su Yuening once telling her that Jin Yunxi’s childhood had been anything but happy—lonely and desolate.
She cupped Jin Yunxi’s face, sliding under the covers to hold her thin Alpha frame close. Wrapping her arms tight around her waist, she whispered, “Mommy will never leave you again.”
“Okay~~” The Alpha’s voice was sweet and docile. She clung tightly to Yan Qingruo, finally drifting into peaceful sleep.
At this moment, Jin Yunxi truly believed Yan Qingruo was her mother.
Yan Qingruo had no idea that before long, in her lowered-intelligence state, Jin Yunxi would start treating her as another kind of Mommy.

The next morning, Ah Lai woke to the sound of waves crashing ashore.
She pressed her aching head. Grandma once said she probably got water in her brain whenever she went diving, which was why her head hurt with every tide—like she hadn’t slept all night.
Stretching out of habit, her hand brushed against something full and plump. Her eyes flew open—an unbelievably beautiful woman’s face was only inches away, morning light streaming through the drafty window, catching on her thick lashes. The sight was enough to topple kingdoms and steal hearts.
A fairy sister?
She shook her head hard. No—Miss Yan!
Why was Miss Yan in her bed?
Or had she climbed into Miss Yan’s bed in her sleep? She did sometimes sleepwalk during the tides.
The thought startled her. She quickly scanned the surroundings and sighed in relief—it was her own little room.
Ah Lai wanted nothing more than to sneak away and pretend nothing had happened. But just as she tried to pull her hand back, the woman caught it, guiding her arm around her waist—pressing her hand firmly against the curve of her hip.
It felt like a shock of lightning. Ah Lai’s face flamed red. But… Miss Yan’s backside was so perfectly rounded, like the juicy peaches she’d eaten before. Her tongue darted out to wet her lips. She must’ve just—suddenly wanted fruit.
Why else would her mouth feel so dry?
But thirst burned down her throat, sparking flames in her chest, scorching through muddled memories and setting her body alight.
Ants seemed to crawl over her skin. Restlessness seeped into her marrow. She wanted—so badly—to do something reckless. Merely holding, touching, tasting the peach wouldn’t be enough.
With effort, she pulled her hand back, clenching her teeth to stop herself from swallowing.
The more she craved, the more she wanted to flee. Her throat bobbed as she whispered nervously, “Miss Yan… may I get out of bed?”
The woman’s lashes fluttered, her voice husky.
“Baby~ You don’t like Mommy anymore, so soon?”
Who was it last night, rubbing her head against her chest, sliding a hand under her clothes to press her hips forward?
The Alpha’s movements had been smooth, practiced, seamless.
And now—pretending nothing happened?
Mm-hmm?

Later, Yan Qingruo learned from Grandma that whenever the tide came in, Ah Lai’s mind became unclear, sometimes slipping into a childlike, low-intelligence state.
Hearing this, Yan Qingruo’s worry deepened. She insisted on taking Ah Lai with her.
Now that she was certain Ah Lai was Jin Yunxi, she couldn’t bear even a moment’s separation.
With her wife already here, how could grandma refuse?
But Ah Lai was baffled. “Grandma, why should I go with Miss Yan?”
No matter how Grandma coaxed, she refused, unwilling to leave her behind.
The old woman thought to herself, Usually you’re not half this clingy. Why turn into a barnacle now? But in her heart, she felt warmed.
Gently, Grandma reasoned, “Didn’t you always dream of saving up and traveling far away? Miss Yan has a private plane. She can take you anywhere you want to go.”
“But I have no skills,” Ah Lai pointed at herself, frowning. “Why would Miss Yan want me to go?”
Grandma pushed her in front of the mirror. “Our Ah Lai has long legs and a slim waist. Sure, your skin’s a little dark, but that can be fixed. Of course Miss Yan fancies you.”
To ease her worries, Grandma added, “She even gave me money. Don’t worry—just go with her.”
Ah Lai gawked at the paper bag of feng coins. It was more than she could earn from harvesting seafood in fifty years.
“Miss Yan is really rich,” she whispered, dazed. And so good to Grandma.
A thought dawned—was Miss Yan trying to keep her?
After all, Grandma’s words—telling her to treat Miss Yan well, serve her properly, never upset her—sounded suspiciously like instructions for a mistress.
Once she accepted that idea, Ah Lai swallowed hard. Did that mean Miss Yan… liked her?
She didn’t want to be conceited, but… Miss Yan had crawled into her bed last night.
She’d never shared a bed with another woman before.
On the way out, Yan Qingruo kept sneaking looks at her. “Why is your face so red?”
“N-no reason.”
Feeling the weight of her “sponsorship,” Ah Lai coughed primly. “Miss Yan, when are we going abroad?”
But a typhoon hit Fonden, bringing thunder and heavy rain. Yan Qingruo delayed their departure, instead booking a hotel suite.
Naturally, Ah Lai stayed with her. That very night, Yan Qingruo was struck by her Omega heat.
The suppressant was there, but with her true Alpha before her, her body yearned. She longed to crawl into Ah Yun’s arms, to be kissed, claimed, filled—drenched like a summer storm pouring into every hidden depth.
Even as rain pounded outside, it wasn’t enough.
Biting her lip, she let a soft moan escape.
A thunderclap shook the night.
Half-asleep, Ah Lai felt the faint brush of a woman’s trembling voice. “Ah Lai… I’m scared. Can I sleep with you?”
In the dark, Yan Qingruo’s eyes shimmered with pitiful tears.
“Miss Yan, are you afraid of thunder?”
She crawled out of her bed, knelt beside Yan Qingruo, and gently cupped her ears. “Don’t be afraid, Miss Yan.”
One thing led to another, and Yan Qingruo slipped into her Alpha’s arms.
Held tight against a broad chest, her waist rubbed and pressed by restless hands… yet the Alpha showed no reaction.
“Miss Yan, are you cold?” Ah Lai asked earnestly. She bundled Yan Qingruo tightly in the blanket until she resembled a silkworm cocoon. “There. Now you won’t be cold.”
Wrapped so tightly she couldn’t move, Yan Qingruo sighed.
“Are you trying to suffocate me?”
She couldn’t even lift a hand to tease. And she was still burning up. Infuriating.
Was it shameful that she now missed the times when Jin Yunxi would shamelessly paw at her?
Yan Qingruo wasn’t ready to give up. But by the time she finally wriggled free of the cocoon, the Alpha had fallen asleep—one hand still covering her ear, the other patting her back as she murmured, “Miss Yan, don’t be scared~”
Leaning close, Yan Qingruo caught the words. Her lips curved as she tapped Jin Yunxi’s nose lightly. “Fine. I’ll forgive you—for now.”

When dawn broke, Ah Lai stirred awake.
Her palm slid over smooth, tender skin. The sight before her was dazzling—long legs hooked lightly around her waist.
The woman stretched languidly, half-opening her eyes with a sultry look.
“You’re awake… shall we begin, Master?”
Ah Lai flustered. “M-Miss Yan, please don’t call me that.”
“Then… should I call you little one?” She lifted a hand, brushing hair back from her ear, gaze melting like silk.
Their skin brushed, and Yan Qingruo deliberately pressed the softness of her body against the Alpha’s waist.
“M-Miss Yan, you… you…” Ah Lai stammered, face scarlet. Was her patron already expecting her to fulfill… those duties?
Because Yan Qingruo’s eyes suddenly turned dark, brimming with wounded grievance.
“Liar. Big liar.” Her whisper was soft, accusing.
She had finally gathered the courage to bare everything.
And this Alpha had gawked at her body like she’d seen a monster.
Who was it, not long ago, claiming mornings were the best time, coaxing her into “morning exercise”?
Who was it, afterward, who blamed her—saying she couldn’t help reacting whenever touched, that it was all Yan Qingruo’s fault for being too beautiful, that even if she lost her memories, she’d always crave her?
Liar. Big liar!
