- Chapter 52 - The Baby and I Will Wait for You to Come Home
At the high-end club, the receptionist covered her lips with a smile when she saw the two women return not long after leaving.
“The two of you really are inseparable,” she teased.
It hadn’t even been an hour, yet this elegant, striking couple was already back again.
Jin Yunxi, tall and commanding, gripped Yan Qingruo’s hand tightly, striding ahead in haste, while Qingruo tried to pull away with subtle resistance.
To outsiders, they looked exactly like lovers who had just quarreled and come back in a fit of passion.
With a sharp bang, the door closed.
In one hand, Jin Yunxi clutched a freshly taken photo of the child under the stage lights—those round, black-grape eyes were identical in color to her own.
In the other, she held a childhood photo of herself. Placed side by side, the resemblance was uncanny—like two imprints carved from the same mold.
“Jin Yunxi, how could you go to my child’s kindergarten without permission?”
Yan Qingruo’s voice trembled with panic. She forced herself into composure, eyes wide with feigned reproach.
“Your child?” Jin Yunxi’s tone shot up sharply, her obsidian gaze burning into Qingruo, studying every flicker across her face. “Even now, you still want to insist the baby belongs to you and Shu Xiyue?”
Qingruo turned her head away, but Yunxi caught her chin and forced her back to face her.
A sudden sting brushed across her lips. The Alpha’s kisses poured down like a storm, relentless and consuming.
“Yan Qingruo, I really want to kiss that stubborn mouth of yours until it softens.” Yunxi’s breath was ragged. She pressed her forehead to Qingruo’s, her voice dropping tenderly: “The baby… is ours, isn’t she?”
As she spoke, Yunxi discreetly twisted a strand of the child’s hair around her fingers, her tone leaving no room for refusal. “I’ll have a DNA test done. But more than that, I want to hear you say it yourself. Do you remember our promise game, Qingruo? If you’ve lied to me, I will…”
She leaned close to her ear, whispering four scorching words.
Qingruo’s ears flamed instantly. That husky, heated “f** you to death”* tunneled straight into her, leaving her trembling and flushed.
With nowhere left to hide, she finally admitted, “Yes… she’s yours.”
But before Yunxi’s joy could bloom, Qingruo doused it in ice.
“Still, the Song family will never acknowledge her as yours. And my mother… she will never accept you.”
Yunxi’s heart sank. Her brows knotted in grief and frustration.
“Why? Give me a reason.”
Slowly, Qingruo spoke:
“When you were still in school, did you use hostile acquisitions as bargaining chips in the fight for heirship?”
The words poured out with all her pent-up sorrow—the hostile takeover that drove her grandfather to suicide, her grandmother falling ill after his death, her mother’s mental collapse…
Yunxi’s chest tightened. In the depths of memory, fragments of such things did exist. But hadn’t she always targeted near-bankrupt companies with potential, restructuring them into survival?
“What was your grandfather’s company called?” she pressed.
“Does it even matter now?” Qingruo’s reddened eyes glistened with accusation.
“It does. Yan Qingruo, I need to know. If it wasn’t me, I won’t shoulder false blame. But if it was me, I will never escape responsibility.” Her tone was solemn.
When the words “Hengjia Group” fell from Qingruo’s lips, Yunxi’s chest constricted. The name was disturbingly familiar—had she really…?
Unable to stop herself, she pulled Qingruo into another kiss, heavy with apology, determination, and a vow.
“I promise you, I’ll find the truth of what happened back then. You and the baby—wait for me.”
If it wasn’t her, she would clear her own name and openly reclaim a future with Qingruo.
If it was… Yunxi closed her eyes, a shadow weighing down her heart.
She exhaled softly, then wrapped Qingruo tightly in her arms, resting her chin on her hair.
“Thank you… for giving birth to our baby.”
At that moment, Yunxi’s lashes were wet. All the grievances, bitterness, and pain of the past melted away like snow in sunlight—because now, she and Qingruo had created a child together.
Her throat ached. She was a mother now. Their baby carried both of them within her.
Once indifferent to children, Yunxi’s heart had been melted the instant she saw her little girl.
The weariness with life, the drifting of her soul like a leaf on the wind—all of it anchored now. She had a reason to belong to this world again, something she could never bear to lose.
And all of it was because of Yan Qingruo.
Confronted with this sudden mercy from fate, gratitude overflowed in her chest. She could only clutch it tighter, terrified that happiness would vanish in the blink of an eye.
Yunxi grasped Qingruo’s hand firmly.
“Qingruo, when the truth clears my name, promise me—you’ll remarry me. From then on, the three of us will never part again. I’ll become a good mother. Believe me.”
Qingruo looked at the woman’s face—once untouchably aloof, now brimming with earnest warmth and human tenderness. Her heart ached and softened all at once.
In truth, deep inside, she had already said “yes” countless times.
“Can you tell me… what’s our baby’s name?” Yunxi asked.
Qingruo bit her lip shyly. “Her name is Yan Xining.”
“Xining…” Yunxi repeated softly, rolling the syllables on her tongue. The name stirred a strange familiarity. “Does it mean something special?”
Qingruo turned her head slightly, cheeks tinged pink.
“Xining. Xi—joy. Ning—peace. Jin Yunxi, may you live in joy and peace.”
And may the baby too.
The inspiration had come from Yunxi herself.
Suddenly, Yunxi remembered. Back in Country R, she had hung a prayer plaque beneath a temple tree, scribbling clumsy words: Yan Qingruo, I wish you peace and happiness.
“So… when I sent that blessing, you had just given birth?” Her eyes sparkled.
No wonder. That’s why Qingruo had chosen the name. Her heart surged warm and bright—Qingruo did hold her in her heart.
But Qingruo pouted, her words laced with jealousy.
“Yet at that time, someone was busy soaking in hot springs with her little lover. How could she have cared about our happiness then?”
She pulled her hand free.
Yunxi immediately seized it back, pressing Qingruo’s palm against her chest.
“Qingruo, it was all a misunderstanding. Back then, my heart was full of you—no one else. It was those damn reporters. You mustn’t believe a word they write!”
But the explanation rang hollow. After all, three years later, that Mo Sisi was still around—still by Yunxi’s side, even wrapping scarves around her neck.
It turned out that Yan Qingruo was an extremely possessive person. When it came to Jin Yunxi, her heart grew narrower than the tip of a needle.
Especially after the past few encounters, in her mind, Jin Yunxi—inside and out—everywhere from her lips, neck, and glands to her most private places, from the strands of her hair to the tips of her fingers, every inch of her body belonged to Yan Qingruo alone.
Yet outwardly, the woman let out a soft sob, her expression delicate and pitiful, choking on her words in a way that tugged at the heartstrings—
“Do you know how scared and helpless I’ve felt, carrying this baby all by myself? During checkups, when I saw other couples being so loving, I sometimes wondered where you were. Were you with another woman? Or maybe with some younger new fling? Had you already forgotten about me and the baby?”
As expected, Jin Yunxi’s heart ached instantly. She pulled Yan Qingruo tightly into her arms, as if she could melt her into her very being. Her chin rested lightly on the woman’s crown, her voice hoarse:
“It’s my fault. I’ve made you suffer so much. From now on, I’ll spend my whole life making it up to you. I’ll be with you and the baby every single day—I won’t let you endure even the slightest grievance again.”
Tomorrow, she’d reassign Mo Sisi to Su Yuening’s department! Mo Sisi wasn’t allowed to deliver meals anymore—even if she’d hardly eaten any to begin with!
After a long while, Yan Qingruo’s sobs gradually quieted. She lifted her head, and only then did Jin Yunxi notice—her eyes held no tears at all. At the corners of her lips flickered a sly, fleeting smile.
So quick, yet Jin Yunxi still caught it.
Her heart melted instantly.
Whether it was jealousy or playacting, it all meant Yan Qingruo cared about her.
She reached out and gently brushed the tip of Yan Qingruo’s nose with her finger. “Yan Qingruo, sometimes… you’re actually quite cute.”
Yan Qingruo’s eyes widened. Sometimes cute?
She raised a pale, slender finger, ready to pinch Jin Yunxi’s earlobe, but before she could, her shoulders were suddenly yanked closer by the Alpha.
Their bodies nearly pressed together, close enough to feel each other’s breath and warmth.
Jin Yunxi lowered her head slightly, the tip of her nose brushing against Yan Qingruo’s cheek, sliding down along her face to her earlobe. She nipped it gently, her voice low and tender:
“Knowing that you care about me… it makes me so happy.”
“Qingruo, my wife~” she called softly, long and sweet.
She cupped Yan Qingruo’s face in both hands, kissing her forehead, her eyes, her nose, and finally her lips—one tender kiss after another.
“You and the baby… wait for me to come home.”
Her words softened Yan Qingruo’s heart. Once again, she felt a rekindled hope for the future Jin Yunxi painted for their family of three. Slowly, she raised her hand and caressed Jin Yunxi’s cheek, her gaze gentle yet resolute.
“Jin Yunxi, you’d better not lie to me. I’ll wait for you.”
“Call me Ah Yun again, will you?” Jin Yunxi leaned in, pecked her lips lightly, then lingered there, reluctant to pull away.
Yan Qingruo hesitated.
It was only after Jin Yunxi had gone for quite a while that she finally whispered softly, almost tenderly, “Ah Yun~”
“I’ll wait for you to come home—with the baby.”
Her confession of love and her chosen way of addressing Jin Yunxi, she had planned to say to her face.
Unfortunately, Jin Yunxi would never get to hear it.

Driving down the road, Jin Yunxi dialed Su Yuening’s number again and again, but all she heard was the cold, unending busy tone.
Only after reaching Mo Sisi did she learn that Su Yuening was already on her way to the airport in Country A, her phone about to be switched off.
At that very moment, in the rearview mirror, Jin Yunxi caught sight of a towering vehicle bearing down on her like a ghost, aggressive as a predator blocking its prey.
Her heart lurched. They’re here with bad intentions!
Just then, her phone rang suddenly. She picked up at once, Su Yuening’s voice coming through the receiver.
Not wasting a second, Jin Yunxi spoke in a rush: “Years ago, was a company called Hengjia one of your acquisitions?”
On the other end, there was silence for a long moment, the line crackling faintly as though cut.
Su Yuening frowned. “I don’t remember. Why are you asking me this all of a sudden?”
Jin Yunxi’s anxiety mounted, her grip on the wheel so tight her knuckles turned white.
Suddenly, the car beside her rammed into hers. Her hand jolted on the steering wheel, and the car veered sharply off course. From the phone, Su Yuening cried out in alarm: “What happened?!”
Jin Yunxi drew a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm. Raising her voice, she said firmly:
“I’m being chased down, but this is just as important. If you want to ease my mind, send the acquisition files for Hengjia directly to my wrist comm now!”
“Where are you? I’ll send people right away!” Su Yuening’s voice was taut with worry, her composure already fraying.
“Send it!” Jin Yunxi barked, sharp and resolute.
“Yunxi, are you gambling with your life right now?” Su Yuening all but shouted, breaking into a run in the opposite direction of the airport. “Fine, I’ll send it!”
Her fingers trembled as she ordered her driver to turn back, but then it hit her—aside from the chauffeur at her side, all her people were still far away in Yatran.
Her heart sank. This was no coincidence. The enemy had clearly planned this well, choosing to strike in Country F. Today, they intended to kill Jin Yunxi.
Su Yuening dialed again, but all she heard was the busy signal. At last, the line connected, and she caught fragments of Jin Yunxi’s broken voice:
“Su Yuening… the Jin Corporation… hand it over to…”
Then came a name that made Su Yuening jolt with shock. She tried to ask more, but there was no reply.
“Where are you hurt? Jin Yunxi, if you die, I won’t honor your request! I’ll take your company and make sure it changes its name!”
“Yunxi, are you still there? Hold on! I’m coming for you right now!” Su Yuening’s eyes filled with tears. The once-invincible Miss Jin—the one who had protected her countless times in their youth—she refused to believe something could happen to her.
“BOOM!!!”
A deafening explosion tore through the air, like thunder splitting the sky.
Su Yuening’s vision went black. Through the overpass, she saw it—the terrifying sight of flames shooting skyward, smoke billowing in thick clouds.
Very quickly, news spread across the networks—
