- Chapter 15 - Ah Yun Is Afraid of Pain
Jin Yunxi never expected Queen Lin Ruxi to suddenly show up at her home.
Yan Qingruo was half-squatting by her side, carefully pressing a warm compress against her injured leg. From the narrow gap in the doorway, the queen’s gaze swept over them—yet why did it feel… less than innocent?
Cough.
Jin Yunxi, startled, made a move to stand, but Yan Qingruo immediately pressed her down.
“What’s wrong, Ah Yun?”
Jin Yunxi stiffened. “Your Majesty… why are you here?”
Yan Qingruo chuckled softly and clapped her hands. She truly hadn’t known the queen’s authority extended to barging into someone’s home uninvited.
And since she had such a question, she voiced it aloud.
At once, Lin Ruxi’s eyes shifted. The hem of her black satin cheongsam just barely brushed her pale ankles, her posture radiating regal command as she seated herself on Jin Yunxi’s chair. Her smile carried mockery as she said, “I had no idea my secretary-general was hiding away such a sharp-tongued little thing.”
The air turned instantly tense.
Supporting her forehead with one hand, Jin Yunxi leaned on her crutch and stood between the two of them. “Would you like some tea?” she asked quietly.
After all, talking this much must be tiring.

Ten minutes earlier.
Lin Ruxi, dressed in disguise for her “private visit,” had chosen a fitted black cheongsam embroidered with golden thread and glittering crystals. Every step she took exuded the grace and oppressive power of someone used to command. She raised her hand and tapped the doorbell with a fingertip.
The door creaked open a fraction. “I’ve come to see Xiao Xi. No need to announce me.”
The queen’s arrival left Ivy so frightened she could barely form words.
Lin Ruxi ascended the stairs. Through the partly open bedroom door, she caught sight of Yan Qingruo kneeling gracefully at Jin Yunxi’s legs.
Her pupils contracted. In broad daylight—indecent? How could they…?
A storm of suspicion and jealousy surged inside her. She shoved the door wide open.
“Good day.” Her voice was soft yet carried authority, drifting through the room like a subtle reprimand. It sounded like a greeting, but felt like an interrogation.
Jin Yunxi had just started to rise to greet her when Yan Qingruo, still holding ointment on her delicate fingertips, pressed it firmly onto the bandage. The Alpha’s throat bobbed involuntarily.
Lin Ruxi’s breath caught. She realized she had misunderstood, but the sight before her was no less unbearable. The affection between the two was so palpable it nearly clung in the air. Her gilded nails dug into her palm, her fingertips blanching.
Should I give up? she wondered. Lin Ruxi had never once failed to obtain what she desired. She had assumed this time would be no different.

Lin Ruxi accepted the tea, but the longer she sat, the stronger the “green tea” fragrance seemed to grow in the air.
Within the mingled scent of herbs, Yan Qingruo suddenly tilted her face upward. Her amber eyes shimmered with a honey-like glow, teeth grazing her lower lip.
“Ah Yun is terribly afraid of pain,” she murmured.
Her fingertips traced lightly along the edge of the Alpha’s suppression patch at her nape, playfully circling. “Your Majesty, for someone who claims to know Ah Yun so well, how could you not know this?”
The room seemed stifling, filled with the mingled fragrance of ylang-ylang and medicine. Lin Ruxi pressed her lips into a faint curve. “I see Miss Yan’s injuries have already healed, haven’t they?”
Yan Qingruo smiled slowly, voice unhurried. “Not yet. I still can’t be without Ah Yun. I even heard she’s going on a trip with Your Majesty…”
Her tone lingered as her fingers slid upward, deliberately stroking over the suppression patch at Jin Yunxi’s neck. Her gaze burned with possession. “Ah Yun is afraid of pain. Please don’t bully her. And I can’t be apart from her for too long.”
Though a Beta could not mark an Alpha, Yan Qingruo refused to yield an inch of what she considered hers. Her every move declared sovereignty.
Her tone toward the queen was neither humble nor arrogant, her gaze rippling with provocation beneath a veil of charm.
When Lin Ruxi was finally seen out, Jin Yunxi’s expression remained composed, her jaw tightening slightly. “My Ruoruo can be rather mischievous. I must apologize if she offended Your Majesty.”
Ruoruo?
That evening, on the way back to the palace, the captain of the guards had never seen the queen’s expression so dark and stormy.

After the queen’s departure, Jin Yunxi was immediately assigned to pressing business—joint affairs that required collaboration with the Jin Group.
Yan Qingruo clung to her like a spoiled kitten, arms twined around the Alpha’s, leaning in close. She deliberately pressed her lips near Jin Yunxi’s ear and whispered coyly, “Ah Yun, give me a goodbye kiss.”
That’s how it was written in the couple’s diary.
Her warm breath fanned across Jin Yunxi’s neck. The Alpha’s entire body stiffened, though her face worked hard to remain indifferent.
She tilted her head slightly, trying to create distance, but Yan Qingruo only held her tighter.
Jin Yunxi turned aside, her voice awkwardly heavier than usual. “I… have a habit of brushing my teeth before kissing.”
Lifting her chin, she deliberately averted her gaze, avoiding Yan Qingruo’s blazing eyes.
Yan Qingruo arched a brow, mischief glinting in her eyes. Instead of letting go, her arms slid higher, circling Jin Yunxi’s neck, drawing their bodies closer.
If not the lips, then… anywhere else would do.
“Muah, muah, muah.” She kissed her left cheek, her forehead, then her chin—three quick pecks in a row.
Jin Yunxi’s breath hitched, a faint flush sweeping across her face. She instinctively raised a hand to push Yan Qingruo away, but it faltered midair, then slowly lowered again. In the end, she only pressed her lips tightly together.
She struggled to suppress the maddening ripple inside her chest. Just a ripple, nothing more. Ridiculous.
This woman—Yan Qingruo—was not only bold, but shamelessly familiar.
And after kissing her, she deliberately blew a gentle breath into her ear. Jin Yunxi’s earlobes turned instantly pink.
Since losing her memory, Yan Qingruo had become… unbearably clingy. Driving to work, Jin Yunxi touched the lingering warmth on her ears, thinking grimly, Not just clingy. Positively suffocating.
To distract herself from those dangerous thoughts, she chose to drive herself.
But the navigation system—represented by a cheerful frog doll on the dashboard—was merciless.
[Ribbit. Master, you’ve gone off-route. Recalculating.]
[Ribbit, ribbit. Master, you’ve veered off again. Recalculating once more.]
[Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit. Master, your detour has now added ten kilometers… twenty kilometers…]
The frog’s shrill voice was relentless.
Irritated, Jin Yunxi smacked it hard. Its head spun like a fan, flipping a full 360 degrees before resetting to face her again.
[Ribbit, ribbit! Master, I’m crying! Are you taking me on a sightseeing tour around the city? Should I recalculate? Are we not going to the company today, Master? If so, please confirm with “Yes!”]
Today, even the frog was unbearable. With a sigh, Jin Yunxi finally switched on autopilot.

By dusk, golden light filtered through the blinds of the Jin Group’s conference room. Jin Yunxi, late to the meeting, sat at the head of the table, her expression cool but her gaze unfocused.
“President Jin, are you listening?” The manager asked cautiously. It was rare enough for her to be late to a scheduled meeting.
Jin Yunxi blinked back to awareness, fingers brushing her temple. Yan Qingruo’s soft lips flashed through her mind. Distracted, she gave a vague “Mm.”
The manager repeated nervously, “President Jin, what are your thoughts on the acquisition case?”
Crossing her arms, Jin Yunxi picked up her silver pen and tapped it against her chin. But her mind was far away—filled with images of Yan Qingruo’s audacious grin. Absentmindedly, her fingers drummed against the table.
“President Jin?” The manager waved a hand when she still didn’t respond.
She startled slightly, then instinctively reached up to touch her left cheek. It was still warm, as though Yan Qingruo’s kiss lingered there.
Her fingers brushed her right cheek, and her brows furrowed. That side was untouched. A strange, compulsive discomfort tugged at her. Just a bit of obsessive-compulsion. That’s all.
Her subtle movement did not go unnoticed. The nearby staff exchanged baffled looks. “President Jin, are you feeling unwell?”
Yet her expression shifted between faint smiles, dazed distraction, and sudden frowns. They assumed their presentation must have been terribly poor and braced for criticism.
Just then, Jin Yunhan stepped into the conference room. Seeing her sister so absentminded, she spoke in a soft, almost hypnotic tone:
“Sis… who are you thinking about?”
Jin Yunxi blurted, “Yan—”
She bit the word off, instantly regaining composure. Cool professionalism returned to her features as she told the manager, “Leave the proposal in my office. I’ll review it later.”
She didn’t spare her sister so much as a glance.
