After Mistakenly Marking Her Stunning Omega Stepsister - Chapter 63
The weather was getting hotter, but not hot enough to turn on the air conditioning.
The students in the classroom were listless and lacking energy due to the temperature.
Lin Sui couldn’t sleep because she would sweat.
She couldn’t focus on the lecture anyway, since she couldn’t understand it, so she took out her phone and played a single-player game.
This was a class meeting. After summarizing the academic progress, Yang Li spoke mysteriously.
“Next month, we’re having an activity you’ll like.”
“What activity?”
“Another sports meet, right…? We don’t qualify to participate anyway, so we’ll just have to stay in the classroom studying.”
“That’s boring, and it’s too hot now.”
“…”
Suddenly, whispers filled the classroom. The combined murmurs quickly transformed the quiet room into a noisy one.
Yang Li tapped the lecture table, signaling for silence, before continuing. “It’s a cultural evening.”
“What’s that?” Zhu Huan asked excitedly.
Yang Li sighed. “Quiet down! Your chatter is louder than my voice! Listen to yourselves—your class is the loudest in the entire grade!”
The classroom quickly fell silent.
Zhu Huan leaned closer to Lin Sui and muttered under her breath, “The next thing she’ll say is, ‘You’re the worst class I’ve ever taught!'”
Lin Sui chuckled. “That sounds about right.”
“The cultural evening will be held after National Day. Each class can submit one performance. If it passes the review, you can perform.”
Yang Li paused, then smiled. “Does our class have any ideas?”
“Yes!”
Yang Li shook her head helplessly at the classroom’s renewed chatter, a smile playing on her lips.
She glanced at the wall clock. “There are five minutes left before class ends. If you have ideas, discuss them with the Class Monitor and Vice-Class Monitor. After school, they should come to the office to report back to me. We’ll decide then.”
“Great!”
Lin Sui propped her face in her hand and yawned wearily. She’d never been particularly interested in this sort of thing. It wasn’t her strong suit anyway. She was perfectly content to just be an audience member.
Zhu Huan rubbed her hands excitedly. “I’m going to ask En’en if she’ll go up and perform.”
“You really care about this?” Lin Sui raised an eyebrow, looking at her curiously.
“Why wouldn’t I care?” Zhu Huan smiled. “If En’en goes on stage, I’ll be happy, she’ll be happy, and we can watch her perform! I’ll definitely take some great photos of her… Oh, right, I’ll have to practice my photography skills hard for a while!”
Lin Sui blinked, watching Zhu Huan’s excited expression, a little baffled. But then she thought about it—if Wen Xiangzhu went up and performed… she’d definitely love to watch that too. Hmm, I think I understand a little.
The bell rang, and classmates immediately swarmed around them.
Lin Sui’s expression grew complicated as the sudden noise made her ears ache.
“We could do a girl group dance—how cool would that be?!”
“Or a big choir! We could all go up and sing!”
“But a choir is so old-fashioned. How about a skit?”
“Isn’t a skit old-fashioned too? We see those on the Spring Festival Gala every year!”
“Then we could…”
Lin Sui’s temples throbbed. Her head was starting to hurt.
She sighed helplessly and moved out of the way, leaving the classroom.
Finally, it was quiet.
She hated the constant chatter in her ears.
Except for Wen Xiangzhu.
She never talked too much.
When school was over, Wen Xiangzhu and Lu Xiaomeng went to the office.
Lin Sui, with her backpack slung over her shoulder, could only wait in the corridor.
After a long while, the two emerged from the office and headed back to the classroom to pack up.
Lin Sui walked over, curious. “What did they say?”
“Teacher Yang said we’ll pick some of the more coordinated students to dance,” Wen Xiangzhu said softly. “But Mengmeng and I have to participate.”
“Mr. Yang isn’t worried your limbs aren’t coordinated?” Lin Sui chuckled, teasing.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Wen Xiangzhu glared at her. “I play tennis! How could I not be coordinated?!”
“Okay, okay, my bad.” Lin Sui apologized, but her mischievous grin remained.
Lu Xiaomeng glanced between the two, then narrowed her eyes. “What’s going on with you two?”
“What do you mean?” Lin Sui raised an eyebrow.
“You’re acting weird. Really weird,” Lu Xiaomeng said firmly. “You never used to wait for Wenwen like this, or… act so… approachable.”
“Approachable? What kind of word is that?” Lin Sui laughed in exasperation. “As if I was ever unapproachable!”
Lu Xiaomeng: “……”
You have no idea how others see you.
Wen Xiangzhu couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
“Sister used to dislike me, but now… she probably thinks I’m a good person, so she likes me,” she said with a smile, half-joking.
“Wenwen is so nice, she definitely deserves to be liked.”
Lu Xiaomeng stared at Lin Sui. “You’re much easier to talk to now. Before… I didn’t even dare to speak to you.”
Lin Sui: “?”
“I used to be that scary?”
“Absolutely! You used to take on the whole basketball team single-handedly!”
Just mentioning this got Lu Xiaomeng fired up. “Back then, several classmates were your die-hard fans! They admired you but were too afraid to talk to you…”
“Which ones?”
Wen Xiangzhu raised an eyebrow, asking out of nowhere.
“Uh…”
Lu Xiaomeng blinked, realizing she probably shouldn’t have said that. Still, she mumbled, “I was one of them…”
Wen Xiangzhu: “……”
“But, but that was back then!” Lu Xiaomeng quickly added, as if realizing something. “It’s different now. We’re friends now.”
She finished with an awkward smile.
Wen Xiangzhu smiled helplessly.
“Alright, we still haven’t decided on the performance piece, and we don’t have any leads on the performers.”
“The piece… we need to choose carefully. Nothing too flashy or with inappropriate movements. Hmm… it has to pass the censors,” Lu Xiaomeng said, deep in thought. “As for performers… aren’t we already sitting on one right here?”
Wen Xiangzhu blinked, glancing at Lin Sui with an enigmatic smile.
Lin Sui: “……?”
*******
“I swear, I’m definitely not participating,” Lin Sui declared, her expression stern.
Wen Xiangzhu pursed her lips and tugged at Lin Sui’s hand, unwilling to give up. “Come on, just do it to keep me company.”
“Absolutely not!” Lin Sui’s tone was firm. “I’ll accompany you to practice dancing, but I will not perform.”
“Why not?” Wen Xiangzhu pouted, her voice tinged with displeasure.
Lin Sui sighed, hesitating before confessing, “You… I just can’t. If I go on stage with you all and dance that… that cutesy, youthful dance, my image will be ruined!”
“What image?” Wen Xiangzhu chuckled softly.
Lin Sui pondered for a moment. “The image of being untouchable.”
“Pfft!” Wen Xiangzhu couldn’t suppress a laugh. “Fine, I won’t force you.”
Lin Sui finally let out a relieved breath. “So, have you decided on your repertoire yet?”
Wen Xiangzhu glanced down at her phone, scrolling through group chat messages. “We’re still looking.”
“Hmm, is there anything I can help with?” Lin Sui asked.
“Sure,” Wen Xiangzhu replied without looking up. “Just handle the logistics.”
“What’s that?” Lin Sui asked, blinking in confusion.
“It means…” Wen Xiangzhu winked, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. She leaned closer to Lin Sui and lowered her voice. “Take care of me.”
Lin Sui: “……”
“Is that all?”
“Simple? Don’t think this is an easy job,” Wen Xiangzhu chuckled softly.
Lin Sui was puzzled. “What’s so hard about that?”
“Fine then. Here’s to Assistant Lin’s happy new role.”
Seeing Wen Xiangzhu’s beaming smile, Lin Sui felt her right eye twitch. Something felt off, but she couldn’t put her finger on what.
Whatever. It’s just about taking care of someone. How hard could that be?
At first, it was exactly as Lin Sui imagined.
Just buying water, running errands, and massaging Wen Xiangzhu’s shoulders and legs at night.
It was hardly any work at all. She could even skim a little off the top and felt quite satisfied.
Later, she realized her image had still been ruined.
Lin Sui, who had always projected an unapproachable aura, had somehow transformed into… a mere sidekick?
That was something she couldn’t accept.
“I won’t keep you company at school,” Lin Sui declared. “I’ll take care of you when we get home.”
“Already fed up with me?” Wen Xiangzhu teased, smiling warmly at her from the car.
“It’s not that…” Lin Sui pouted. “It’s just that this is damaging my reputation.”
“Alright, alright,” Wen Xiangzhu chuckled, gently pinching her hand. “Since it’s National Day, you can take a break and rest up.”
“Sounds good.”
For the past few days, with their elders away, the two had been sleeping in Lin Sui’s room, waking up together, and going to school together.
But today was different. When Lin Sui woke up, Wen Xiangzhu was nowhere to be found.
She scratched the back of her head.
Maybe she’s hungry and went downstairs to get something to eat.
With this thought, Lin Sui went to the bathroom to wash up.
But when she finished and came downstairs, Wen Xiangzhu was still nowhere to be seen.
Instead, she found a fragrant breakfast spread out on the table.
Lin Sui blinked and checked the kitchen.
No one was there.
How strange.
Just as she was about to go upstairs to check the next room, Lin Sui paused.
Wen Xiangzhu, dressed in her outdoor clothes and wearing a red baseball cap, bounced down the stairs. “When did you wake up?”
“Just now…” Lin Sui blinked. “Are you going out?”
“Yeah.”
Wen Xiangzhu nodded and walked to the door to change her shoes.
“What are you going out for?” Lin Sui frowned, feeling a little disgruntled.
She’d woken up to find her girlfriend gone, and now that she’d finally seen her, Wen Xiangzhu was leaving without her. Who wouldn’t feel a little miffed?
Wen Xiangzhu glanced at her.
“Sister, I remember you saying before that you don’t need to be told about these little things.”
Lin Sui: “……”
Had she really said that?
But then she remembered.
That day, when she was going to meet Jiang Wanwan, Wen Xiangzhu had shouted just as she stepped out the door: “I’m going out with my classmates today too!”
“Mm.”
Lin Sui paused.
“There’s no need to tell me about such trivial matters.”
Lin Sui: “……”
As she thought about it, Lin Sui’s expression grew complicated.
Okay, she had indeed said something like that before.
But that was then!
Then was then, and now is now!!
“No, you have to tell me,” Lin Sui said, her face sour. “You need to report it.”
“Why?” Wen Xiangzhu asked, raising an eyebrow, a playful glint in her eyes.
“What reason could there possibly be? We’re a couple, lovers!” Lin Sui snapped.
Wen Xiangzhu chuckled softly.
“Sister, didn’t you just say, ‘We can’t even call it ‘we’ yet’? Have you forgotten?”
Lin Sui: “……”
Lin Sui choked back a lump in her throat. After a moment, she pressed her lips together in resignation. “I was wrong.”
Wen Xiangzhu smiled contentedly, walked over, and kissed her on the cheek.
“I’ve got dance practice with a classmate. I’ll be back tonight.”
“Working so hard?” Lin Sui blinked.
“Mm-hmm,” Wen Xiangzhu replied cheerfully, her voice brightening. “I want to show you my dance.”
******
With a driver taking Wen Xiangzhu to her destination, Lin Sui wasn’t particularly worried.
Just moments before, she’d received a message:
[While Wen Wenfu wasn’t at the company, I found some evidence. It’s been sent to your email.]
After finishing her breakfast at a leisurely pace, Lin Sui went upstairs to her room and booted up her computer.
Her inbox was cluttered with spam, but she found the latest email and clicked it open.
After carefully reviewing the contents, Lin Sui saved the file with a serious expression and encrypted it.
This evidence clearly exposed Wen Wenfu’s treacherous ambitions. It was enough to bring him down.
All she needed to do was pass it to Lin Wei, and Wen Wenfu’s crimes would be exposed. He’d be kicked out of the company and the Lin family.
But… what about Wen Xiangzhu?
