After Mistakenly Marking Her Stunning Omega Stepsister - Chapter 55
Over the next few days, Lin Sui had no opportunity to see Wen Xiangzhu.
After all, it was summer vacation, and the weather was hot. She usually stayed in her room, and if she didn’t run into Wen Xiangzhu downstairs and Wen Xiangzhu didn’t come looking for her, they simply wouldn’t meet.
This situation persisted until the first day of school, when Lin Sui woke up early.
She really couldn’t bring herself to talk to Wen Xiangzhu, but if they were going to school today, they’d have to ride in the same car, right? Surely she’d find an opportunity then!
Thinking this, Lin Sui was in a good mood as she left her room, glancing at the tightly shut door next door, and even hummed a tune as she went downstairs.
She arrived at the garage to find the driver already waiting in the car, but Wen Xiangzhu was nowhere to be seen.
Hmm, she must have gotten up too early.
Lin Sui didn’t think much of it and got into the car.
The driver turned around and asked, “Eldest Miss, shall we go now?”
Lin Sui froze. “What do you mean? Wen Xiangzhu isn’t here yet.”
“Oh, that,” the driver replied. “The Second Miss said she has plans with a friend today and will go to school on her own.”
Lin Sui’s expression shifted. “Which friend?”
“I don’t know…” The driver shook his head.
A moment of silence followed.
Lin Sui lowered her gaze and said calmly, “Then let’s go.”
The car drove out of the garage and onto the road.
The summer sky brightened early. Lin Sui tilted her head, watching the fleeting scenery outside the window, her mind drifting aimlessly.
She had woken up unusually early today. When she arrived at the classroom, only a few classmates were present.
“Did you finish your homework?”
“Nope.”
“What do we do then? Anyone done theirs? We can copy.”
“Let’s wait a bit longer. I bet none of us finished.”
“…”
Lin Sui glanced around but didn’t see Wen Xiangzhu in the classroom.
She settled into her seat, calmly organizing her desk.
As more students trickled in, the classroom buzzed with requests to borrow completed summer homework.
The noise level in the school building rose steadily.
Lin Sui lowered her head, aimlessly flipping through her phone, while occasionally glancing toward the door.
Zhu Huan walked in, meeting Lin Sui’s gaze. She grinned and hurried over. “Hey, Suisui, missed me?”
“Don’t flatter yourself,” Lin Sui replied, disappointment coloring her voice as she looked away.
Zhu Huan chuckled, unfazed, and sat down beside her. “Where’s the Class Monitor? Wasn’t she with you?”
Lin Sui paused, glancing at the empty seat in front of her, and replied calmly, “No.”
Zhu Huan raised an eyebrow but said nothing more.
After a long while, Wen Xiangzhu finally entered the classroom through the back door.
Lin Sui watched as she walked straight to her seat without looking at anyone, leaving only the back of her head visible.
Lin Sui: “……”
Is she really ignoring me?
When the bell rang, Yang Li walked into the classroom and stood at the front, looking down at the students. “Did you all have a good summer vacation? Did you finish your homework? Class Monitor and Study Committee members, please collect the summer assignments.”
“This semester, we officially enter our third year of high school—the most crucial year of your education. I urge you all to focus your minds, prepare diligently for the exams, and work for your own…”
As Yang Li continued speaking incessantly from the podium, Wen Xiangzhu had already risen from her seat at the back to collect the homework.
When she reached Lin Sui’s row, a faint strawberry scent reached Lin Sui’s nose. Strangely, she found herself too nervous to look up.
She simply took the homework she had prepared earlier from her desk and slid it across.
The next moment, her homework was taken away, and the faint fragrance disappeared as Wen Xiangzhu left.
Lin Sui pressed her lips together, her expression uneasy, and lowered her head, her gaze unfocused.
She hadn’t said anything, and neither had Wen Xiangzhu. So why did she feel so uncomfortable?
Her heart felt empty, even carrying a trace of inexplicable irritation.
She knew she had spoken harshly, but… but if Wen Xiangzhu would just say something—anything at all—she would apologize!
Why now, wouldn’t Wen Xiangzhu even speak a single word to her?
Lin Sui lowered her head, her mind in turmoil, subconsciously tapping her fingers against the desk.
Zhu Huan, sitting beside her, glanced at her and shook her head helplessly.
After a moment’s hesitation, Zhu Huan leaned closer.
“Bad mood?”
“Mm,” Lin Sui mumbled.
“Why?” Zhu Huan pressed. “Because of Wen Xiangzhu?”
Lin Sui frowned, answering awkwardly, “No.”
Zhu Huan clicked her tongue. “You say ‘no,’ but you’ve practically carved ‘yes’ all over your face!”
Lin Sui: “……”
She hesitated, touching her face. “No, right?”
“Look.”
Zhu Huan chuckled softly, exasperated. “Oh, by the way, I heard something.”
“What?” Lin Sui asked.
“Wen Xiangzhu is moving back to the dormitory,” Zhu Huan said slowly.
After a long silence, Lin Sui finally spoke. “How is that possible?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” Zhu Huan raised an eyebrow. “I heard it from En’en. She said Wen Xiangzhu told her herself.”
Lin Sui lowered her head, her face tense, the tightness in her chest growing worse.
“Why?”
“How should I know?” Zhu Huan smiled. “Maybe you should ask yourself. What’s going on with you two? Did you fight?”
Lin Sui glanced at her, then at Wen Xiangzhu, who was carrying a stack of homework to the teacher’s desk.
“Sort of.”
“Whose fault was it?” Zhu Huan pressed.
Lin Sui was deeply annoyed and didn’t want to answer. Part of the reason was that she knew it was her fault… but she refused to admit it.
She just cares too much about saving face.
Zhu Huan chuckled but didn’t press further.
After class, Lin Sui went to the faculty office and found Yang Li.
“Teacher Yang, I want to live in the dormitory this semester.”
Yang Li’s expression stiffened. “What’s going on with you and Wen Xiangzhu? First you want to live in the dormitory, then you want to live at home, and now you want to live in the dormitory again. Are you two trying to torment me?”
Lin Sui’s expression changed. “How could you…”
Yang Li sighed and pulled out a form from a drawer.
“Come, fill out this form. It’s the same room as before. Bring your luggage to school tomorrow.”
“Okay!”
After leaving the faculty office, Lin Sui felt much better.
But when she got back to the car after school, the driver asked the same question he had this morning: “Eldest Miss, shall we go now?”
Lin Sui paused.
“We don’t need to wait for Wen Xiangzhu?”
“No need,” the driver replied, shaking his head. “The Second Miss moved her luggage to the dormitory today.”
Lin Sui: “……”
Lin Sui stood silent, her eyes downcast, her expression dark.
“Eldest Miss?” the driver called out again.
Lin Sui glanced at him.
“Let’s go.”
He’s not waiting for me anymore! she thought.
That night, Lin Sui’s mind wandered as she packed her bags.
Even when she turned off the light to sleep, she tossed and turned in bed, unable to drift off.
After a moment’s hesitation, she finally decided to get up and grab her phone from the bedside table.
In the dimly lit room, the phone screen became her only source of light, illuminating Lin Sui’s face.
She opened the messaging app, found the chat with Wen Xiangzhu, and began tapping out a message.
But just as she was about to press send, she hesitated.
After a moment, she deleted what she’d written and typed a new message.
This back-and-forth continued, unknowingly consuming half an hour.
Finally, she couldn’t bear it anymore. Steeling herself, she pressed send.
But then she saw it: a red exclamation point.
She’d been blocked by Wen Xiangzhu?!
That night, Lin Sui lay awake, unable to sleep.
The next day, she returned to the dormitory with her luggage, reuniting with her roommates after a long absence.
Zhu Huan was surprised. “Why are you back in the dorm?”
“Uh…” Lin Sui replied vaguely, “Just felt like it.”
Xia Yi poked her head out from the bathroom. “Suisui, why are your dark circles so bad? Didn’t sleep well last night?”
Lin Sui: “……”
An entire night of insomnia—she really hadn’t slept well.
She mumbled a noncommittal sound and collapsed wearily onto her bed.
“I’m exhausted…”
“What’s wrong?”
Ye Shuqian approached curiously. “You seem really down.”
Lin Sui froze. “Is it that obvious?”
“Yeah.”
Ye Shuqian nodded, her gaze steady. “Pretty obvious.”
Lin Sui: “……”
Great.
“What happened?”
Xia Yi finished washing up and couldn’t resist asking.
Zhu Huan chuckled and answered first. “Oh, she had a fight with Wen Xiangzhu. That’s why she’s so upset.”
The room fell silent for a moment.
Then Xia Yi rushed over, her curiosity burning. “What happened? Why did you fight?!”
Her gossip instincts were on fire.
Lin Sui’s expression darkened. Just as she moved to get up and refuse to answer, her phone rang.
She glanced at the screen—it was Sang Shinian calling.
Why would Sang Shinian be calling her at this time?
That was unusual.
Lin Sui said something to the others and walked to the balcony to take the call.
The roommates watched her go, whispering among themselves.
“What’s going on?”
“It probably isn’t a big deal. Just a fight.”
“Why do I have a feeling it’s more than that…?”
“…”
On the balcony, Lin Sui answered the call and Sang Shinian’s voice came through immediately.
“Lin Sui, I heard from Wanwan that you had a fight with Wen Xiangzhu?”
Lin Sui frowned, but before she could respond, Sang Shinian continued.
“Is it because of the annulment?”
Lin Sui was surprised by how much Sang Shinian knew.
“Uh… what did Wanwan tell you?” she asked.
Sang Shinian hummed. “She said you snapped at Wen Xiangzhu and made her cry.”
Lin Sui: “……”
Well, that’s… not entirely untrue.
Sang Shinian pressed on. “Do you… think Wen Xiangzhu and Jiang Wanwan are dating?”
Lin Sui froze.
After a long pause, she replied, “Isn’t that obvious? I asked Jiang Qing about it.”
A soft chuckle came from the other end of the line.
Lin Sui frowned. “What’s so funny?”
“I just find it hilarious,” Sang Shinian said leisurely. “Those two girls have quite the acting skills, fooling Jiang Qing and keeping her in the dark for so long. They’d make great actors if they weren’t already.”
“What do you mean?”
Lin Sui’s expression turned serious, her demeanor growing solemn. “A lie?”
“Exactly. Jiang Qing was tricked. There was never anything between them,” Sang Shinian explained. “It was just a pretext to break off the engagement.”
“…Really?”
Lin Sui remained skeptical.
“Why would I lie to you?” Sang Shinian smiled. “Wen Xiangzhu is a good person—kind to Wanwan, kind to you. You were harsh to her because of a misunderstanding. Don’t you think you should make it up to her?”
After a moment of silence, Lin Sui said, “I understand.”
After hanging up, Lin Sui felt a complex mix of emotions. Knowing it was a misunderstanding brought her some relief, but remembering the harsh words she’d spoken…
Regret.
Was there any way to make amends?
She lingered on the balcony for a long time before sighing and returning to the dormitory.
Xia Yi turned to look at her, curiosity in her voice. “Feeling better now?”
Lin Sui paused, taken aback.
“Is it that obvious?”
“Crystal clear, Eldest Miss,” Ye Shuqian teased. “You’ve been wearing your heart on your sleeve these past few days.”
Speechless, Lin Sui hesitated before sitting back down at her desk.
“I have a question for you both.”
“Hmm? What’s up?”
Xia Yi was the first to show interest, dragging her chair over to join the conversation.
“So…” Lin Sui paused. “If I say something really offensive, how can I take it back?”
The others fell silent.
“How offensive are we talking about?”
After hearing Lin Sui’s account, the three friends were quiet for a long moment.
“Right, that was definitely over the line,” Ye Shuqian said.
“Over the line? That’s an understatement!”
Zhu Huan chuckled. “I wouldn’t even speak to En’en like that.”
“But I’m different,” Lin Sui protested, her explanation sounding a bit crafty. “My situation with her isn’t the same as yours with Xu Nianen.”
“Same, kid,” Zhu Huan said, shaking her head helplessly. “You’re just really dense.”
Lin Sui: “?”
