After Marrying the Evil God - Chapter 13
Seeing Tao Beizhi leave, Zheng Jie cautiously approached. “Xie Chouzhuan, why did you have to offend Tao Beizhi like that? His family background is complicated, and we’re all in the same dorm. There’s no need to make things so tense. His father is the richest man in Nancheng; after we graduate, there’s no guarantee we won’t need a favor from him.”
Xie Chouzhuan closed his book and countered with a question: “Do you think the rules he laid out are reasonable?”
Zheng Jie laughed awkwardly. “Even if they aren’t, we should just endure it. He has money and power; there’s no reason to cross him.”
“His family is only the richest in Nancheng,” Xie Chouzhuan replied calmly. “Their reach doesn’t extend to Hua Ting.”
Zheng Jie spoke with earnest, heavy-hearted advice: “Xie Chouzhuan, think about it properly. Who is Tao Beizhi? He is a genuine young master! Usually, people of our social status wouldn’t even get a chance to speak to someone like him. If you could build a good relationship with him, based on his status alone, even the tiniest bit of benefit leaking through his fingers would be a fortune for us!”
Xie Chouzhuan frowned slightly. After a moment of silence, he responded softly, “Mm… suit yourself.”
In truth, how could Xie Chouzhuan not understand Zheng Jie’s mindset? Sometimes, connections and networking are indeed more important than one’s own talent. With a strong network as support, many things become much smoother. It wasn’t strange for Zheng Jie to think this way.
Having come from a good background himself, Xie Chouzhuan felt he had no right to criticize how others chose to act. Everyone has their own growing environment and personal experiences. Therefore, even if Zheng Jie’s choices didn’t align with his own principles, he should maintain respect and understanding. Furthermore, they had only been roommates for a single day; there was no need to say too much.
Seeing that he couldn’t get through to Xie Chouzhuan, Zheng Jie’s attitude turned cold. He looked at him with a hint of disdain. “You’ll understand these truths once you enter society.”
With Tao Beizhi gone, the dormitory finally became quiet. Peng Bo was naturally timid and wouldn’t strike up a conversation randomly, while Zheng Jie spent his time scrolling through videos on his phone. Xie Chouzhuan took a shower, rested for an hour, and then began to read.
Time flew by, and soon it was six o’clock in the evening.
Tao Beizhi kicked the dormitory door open in a rage. Seeing Xie Chouzhuan just putting his book down, he let out a cold sneer. “What a pretender!”
“Zheng Jie, Peng Bo, I found a high-end restaurant—888 yuan per person. I’m taking you two to broaden your horizons. If certain people apologize and beg this young master, maybe I’ll be merciful enough to let you tag along!”
Xie Chouzhuan ignored him and walked straight out the door.
Tao Beizhi was infuriated by his cold attitude. He immediately pulled out his phone and kicked Xie Chouzhuan out of the dormitory group chat. “Fine, stay poor for the rest of your life!”
“Young Master Tao, don’t mind him,” Zheng Jie chimed in. “He’s just faking being high and mighty. Who is he trying to impress? Once he graduates, he’ll realize how powerful you are.”
“True. Someone like that isn’t worth my attention. Even after graduation, he’ll just end up working for me.”
“Yes, exactly. Who does he think he is? He can’t even compare to you, Young Master Tao,” Zheng Jie flattered him.
“Alright, the car is already here. Let’s head downstairs. I’ll show you guys the world so you don’t look like hicks and embarrass me later.”
Xie Chouzhuan went to the cafeteria. In the evening, the number of students gradually increased.
“Junior!” Chen Shu waved at Xie Chouzhuan as soon as she saw him.
“Senior,” Xie Chouzhuan walked over to greet her.
“Sit down and eat with us, Junior.”
A girl sitting nearby rested her chin on her hand, looking at Xie Chouzhuan. “Does Junior have a girlfriend yet?”
“No.”
The girl’s eyes lit up.
“…I have a fiancé,” Xie Chouzhuan finished the second half of his sentence.
“Oh my god! Junior is so young and already has a fiancé?” Upon hearing this, little stars literally popped into the girl’s eyes.
Xie Chouzhuan smiled but didn’t speak.
“Junior, I heard the son of the Tao family is in your dorm. What’s he like? Is he handsome? Do you think I have a chance to marry into a wealthy family?” another senior joked.
“I’m not very well-acquainted with him,” Xie Chouzhuan replied tactfully.
The girls understood immediately. Today was the first day of school, and usually, most people had a dormitory dinner. The fact that Xie Chouzhuan was eating at the cafeteria alone suggested his relationship with his roommates wasn’t great. They didn’t pry further, fearing they might ruin his mood, and quickly changed the subject.
The meal lasted about an hour. Afterward, Xie Chouzhuan went to collect his military training uniform. On his way back to the dorm, he happened to run into Liu Ci. A girl was blocking Liu Ci’s path, saying something, before she quickly ran away.
“Brother Ci,” Xie Chouzhuan called out, walking over once the girl had left.
“Why are you alone? Are your roommates hard to get along with?”
Xie Chouzhuan had a good relationship with Liu Ci, so he didn’t hide it. “We had an argument.”
“Mm. If you don’t click, then forget it. No need to force yourself,” Liu Ci patted his shoulder in comfort.
As they were talking, a roar sounded from behind them.
Liu Ci’s expression changed instantly. He pulled Xie Chouzhuan aside just as a red sports car brushed past them.
Tao Beizhi, sitting in the driver’s seat, flashed a middle finger at Xie Chouzhuan and mouthed two words: “Poor ghost.”
Liu Ci’s brow furrowed even tighter. “Is this guy an idiot? Drag racing inside the school? He almost hit someone.”
“That’s my roommate,” Xie Chouzhuan said as he silently pulled out his phone to report the incident in his family group chat.
Tao Beizhi’s verbal provocations were one thing, but almost hitting someone with a car was another. If he continued to endure this, he would be a pushover. This time, he would let Tao Beizhi experience what it truly meant to be suppressed by power.
Liu Ci naturally saw the message he sent. “This roommate of yours has committed quite a lot of verbal sins; retribution was bound to happen sooner or later. There are surveillance cameras around here. Come on, let’s go get the footage.”
Liu Ci contacted the school authorities directly to check the cameras.
When Xie Yuanxian heard that his precious younger brother had almost been in another accident, he couldn’t sit still. He immediately headed over with a team of lawyers.
The President of Hua University had already gone home, but when he heard that the young master of the Xie family was almost hit by a car on campus, he nearly fainted. The Xie family had just donated a large sum of money to the school, and now Xie Chouzhuan had almost been injured? That was practically seeking death.
After the President watched the surveillance footage, he fell silent.
“Call the police,” Xie Yuanxian said coldly.
The police arrived at Hua University quickly. After conducting an investigation and gathering evidence, they moved to detain Tao Beizhi.
When the police arrived at Room 316, Tao Beizhi was still spewing foul language and insulting his teammates. When he realized the police were there for him, he was stunned.
“Dammit, it’s that poor ghost Xie Chouzhuan! He actually dared to call the police!”
“Student, the evidence is conclusive. Please come with us.”
“Do you know who my father is? My father is Tao Cong!”
“Take him away!” A police officer in the capital was hardly an ordinary person. Moreover, the person he had almost hit was a member of the Xie family. Forget Tao Cong even if the King of Heaven himself came, he would still be detained.
Zheng Jie quickly spoke up: “Officer, is there a mistake? I was in the car at the time. Tao Beizhi didn’t hit anyone.”
“You two come with us as well.”
“Why?”
“You are witnesses!”
