After Marrying the Disabled Demon Lord as a Substitute, I Ran Away with His Child - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“Why did you make the Venerable One angry?” Yan Jiaojiao squatted with Zuo Siqiu at the entrance of the Demon Lord’s cave dwelling, her eyes fixed intently on the hickey Zuo Siqiu had pinched onto her own neck.
Withered leaves drifted and faint blue smoke swirled around them, adding a touch of desolation to the atmosphere.
Zuo Siqiu propped up her face, looking utterly baffled. “How should I know why he’s mad?”
“As soon as I opened my eyes this morning, he leaned in and asked me who he was. I said he’s the leader of the Xuanyun Sect, the Great Demon Lord. And then he just got angry.”
Yan Jiaojiao knit her brows in deep thought. “But that makes no sense. You’re newlyweds, so sweet that there are red marks all over your neck. How could you bicker over such a trivial thing? Unless… those red marks on your neck are just bug bites?”
Zuo Siqiu: “…”
She sighed for the ten-thousandth time. “Maybe men are just heartless once they get out of bed.”
Yan Jiaojiao protested, “Our Venerable One is absolutely not that kind of person! If he were heartless, he wouldn’t have come out yesterday when those Bixia Sect people were causing trouble at the gates. You don’t understand—he hasn’t left this cave in over a hundred years. He only came out because of you! You’re special to him; you’re the Dao companion he practices with every single night.”
Zuo Siqiu couldn’t care less about being “special.” She sighed for the ten-thousand-and-first time. “The kind of Dao companion whose entire pill supply gets snatched the moment he gets angry in the morning?”
The power gap in this cultivation world was truly unfair. Why could the Demon Lord just browse through her storage artifacts whenever he wanted and take all her pills?
Zuo Siqiu tilted her head back again to display her fake hickey, setting the stage for her next move. “I need to go into seclusion to refine pills for a while.”
Yan Jiaojiao gasped, “But you’re still on your honeymoon!”
Zuo Siqiu sighed. “The Demon Lord is too fierce. I really can’t handle it.”
As she spoke, she leaned her neck closer to Yan Jiaojiao. Such a blatant hint—how could Yan Jiaojiao miss it?
“So you’re going into hiding? Even though he can’t move, you still can’t fend him off?”
Zuo Siqiu nodded, diligently maintaining the Demon Lord’s persona. “Even though I have no prior experience, I think he must be the most powerful man under heaven.”
Yan Jiaojiao’s face turned red as she began to drool, her pure and cute image vanishing instantly. “Wow… your stamina must be amazing then. Since he can’t move, you must be the one doing all the work, right?”
Zuo Siqiu’s mind raced. With my stamina, doing ‘all the work’ is physically impossible. But even if he couldn’t move his body, his aura was overwhelming.
Zuo Siqiu replied, “No, sometimes his aura just… carries me along.”
Yan Jiaojiao: “Whoa!”
Zuo Siqiu steered the conversation back on track. “Regardless, I must go into seclusion.”
Yan Jiaojiao nodded. “Don’t worry, I support you. Even a donkey at a mill gets a vacation!”
Zuo Siqiu: “…”
…
The Name of the Demon
When Zuo Siqiu worked up the courage to ask the Demon Lord for “leave,” his gaze remained fixed on her neck. “You say you want to go into seclusion?”
Zuo Siqiu, who had been so bold in front of Yan Jiaojiao, turned back into a timid quail in front of him. “All my pills are gone… I need to refine some more to save up. And don’t worry, I’ve arranged everything. There won’t be any rumors harmful to you! I know the Left Protector is the biggest gossip in the sect, so I’ve already told her a bunch of lies. She’ll make sure everyone knows how ‘strong’ you are.”
The Demon Lord’s expression shifted several times before he said coldly, “This Seat does not allow it.”
Zuo Siqiu: “??? Why not?!”
He didn’t answer. He simply manipulated his wheelchair and vanished instantly.
Zuo Siqiu went back to squatting at the entrance with Yan Jiaojiao. The scene looked even more desolate than before.
“Tell me the details again,” Yan Jiaojiao said. “I’ll help you analyze it. The Venerable One’s temper can be unpredictable, but I’ve been by his side for a hundred years. I’ll find the reason.”
Zuo Siqiu hid nothing this time, recounting the “intermittent amnesia” episode and how he got angry when she answered his question.
Yan Jiaojiao’s mouth hung open for a long time. “Do you… not know that the Venerable One’s name is Xuan Mo?”
Zuo Siqiu: “…”
When she read the novel, she only remembered the names of the leads. She forgot the side characters immediately. No wonder he was mad. Not knowing your husband’s name is a bit much.
Yan Jiaojiao was shocked. Was there anyone in the world who didn’t know the Demon Lord’s name? Especially his own “bedmate”? But then again, Zuo Siqiu was his Dao companion. This was clearly a “lovers’ spat.”
As the Left Protector, she felt it was her duty to maintain the harmony of the Sect Leader’s marriage. “Madam, now that you know why he’s mad, you should ‘coax’ him. You can’t let such a small thing ruin your relationship. I’ve heard that ‘spoiled women have the best lives.’ Do you want me to find you a book of ‘erotic illustrations’ so you can use your body to properly soothe him?”
Zuo Siqiu stared at her in horror, backing away. “N-no need! Please don’t trouble yourself!” She then fled in a panic.
Yan Jiaojiao watched her run, patting her storage bracelet with regret. She had worked so hard to procure that book from the mountain base!
…
The Seclusion Deal
Zuo Siqiu returned to the room to find Xuan Mo sitting in his wheelchair, reading a cultivation manual. His “vanishing” earlier had clearly just been a trick to get out of her sight.
She circled him a few times, but he refused to look up. Since he was her lifeline, she couldn’t afford to offend him. She squatted down in front of him, trying to force her face into his line of sight.
“Venerable One, did you like the peach-flavored pills? If you do, I’ll refine many more for you this time.”
Xuan Mo remained unmoved.
Zuo Siqiu scratched the floor with her finger. “Venerable One, I was wrong. I was ignorant not to know your name. But I didn’t do it on purpose! Back at my sect, I spent all my time refining pills and didn’t follow world news. I only knew you were the Demon Lord; I didn’t know you were called Xuan Mo.”
Xuan Mo finally looked at her. His eyes told her that a mere apology wasn’t enough.
“Besides peach,” Xuan Mo said, “what other flavors have you made?”
Zuo Siqiu recalled the original host’s memories. “Hawthorn, lemon… I’ve even done mint.”
Xuan Mo: “Refine a hundred of each for this Seat.”
Zuo Siqiu: “!!!”
“Why do you need so many? My cultivation is only at the Foundation stage; these pills won’t do much for someone at your level.”
Xuan Mo didn’t speak. He just let out a sliver of murderous intent.
Zuo Siqiu crumbled instantly. “Oh… okay. I understand.”
Since he had placed a massive “free” order, Zuo Siqiu decided to extend her seclusion. A few hundred pills would surely take “forty-nine days” to finish!
Xuan Mo was surprisingly generous, lending her his personal cultivation chamber. When she entered, she was stunned. The chamber was built directly over the “eye” of the Xuanyun Sect’s spirit vein. In such a high-energy environment, refining pills would be twice as fast.
She had planned to spend nineteen of those forty-nine days slacking off, but now it looked like she could slack off for a whole month. This was an unexpected win!
…
The Sect Leader’s Wrath
While Zuo Siqiu began her seclusion, the Sect Leader of the Bixia Sect finally emerged from his own. He had been refining a treasure and missed the wedding. When he heard what happened, he smashed the armrest of his throne.
“Why was the bride changed to Zuo Siqiu?!”
His daughter, Bi Zhian, knelt before him in tears, looking wretched with guilt. The Second Senior Brother at her side spoke up, heart aching for his beloved. “Master, it was all Zuo Siqiu’s doing! She coveted Junior Sister’s dowry, so she plotted to take her place!”
The Sect Leader was livid. “That hussy! What a disgrace! The sect gave her so many resources, and yet she dared to covet Zhian’s dowry? How are we supposed to explain this to the Xuanyun Sect?!”
He turned to his daughter. “Prepare yourself. This wedding will have to be done!”
He stood up and swept out of the hall. “When I bring that ungrateful wretch back to the sect, I will grind her bones to ash!”
Bi Zhian collapsed onto the floor, looking at the Second Senior Brother in terror. The nightmare was starting all over again.
