After Marrying the Disabled Demon Lord as a Substitute, I Ran Away with His Child - Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Xuan Mo did not immediately have the Demon Medic step forward to examine Zuo Siqiu. Instead, he asked her, “Are you truly going to face your Master all by yourself?”
Zuo Siqiu had a splitting headache, yet she still answered his question seriously, “Yes.”
Xuan Mo asked again, “Aren’t you afraid of death?”
Zuo Siqiu said, “I am! It’s precisely because I’m afraid of death that I must deal with him. He has already poisoned me; if I don’t strike back, wouldn’t I just be lying down and letting him kill me?”
Only then did Xuan Mo slightly lift his chin toward the Demon Medic behind him, signaling him to step forward and treat Zuo Siqiu.
Even with the Demon Medic stepping forward, he could not immediately change Zuo Siqiu’s current condition. He turned to look at Xuan Mo, using his eyes to tell him that right now, nothing Zuo Siqiu ate would be of use—she could only “eat” him (Xuan Mo).
Xuan Mo: “…”
Zuo Siqiu was completely unaware of the massive amount of information being exchanged through their eye contact. She felt her head growing heavier and her body softer; eventually, her consciousness gradually faded, and she sank into a dream once more.
The Demon Medic found it very troublesome to hold the person who had slumped into his arms. Although he smiled gently at Xuan Mo, there was no small amount of threat in his eyes.
Venerable One, if you don’t come over and take her, I’m going to spill the secret that you and the Madam haven’t actually dual-cultivated at all!
Xuan Mo sighed softly. He said to the Demon Medic, “Bring her here, I will take her back.”
Yan Jiaojiao watched this scene blankly, but then a sudden realization struck her. Back when she was afflicted with pill poison, she had immediately gone down the mountain to find her lover and dual-cultivated for three days and two nights. This pill poison was brought upon Zuo Siqiu because of her now that the Leader was carrying the Madam away, what could they be going to do? One could figure that out even with their toes!
The previously somber Yan Jiaojiao immediately became lively again. The Leader and the Madam must be going to do something that would make her completely excited. Life was suddenly looking up.
However, Xuan Mo only felt that the Zuo Siqiu in his arms was exceptionally heavy. What was heavy was not her physical weight, of course, but the event that was about to happen and the word “proactive” the Demon Medic had mentioned earlier.
Xuan Mo’s speed was very fast, and it wasn’t long before he returned to his own cave dwelling. Yet in just that short interval, Zuo Siqiu had already burrowed completely into his embrace, her hand even slipping into the lapel of his robes.
Xuan Mo used his internal energy to hold Zuo Siqiu as he lay down on the bed with her. Zuo Siqiu immediately hugged his waist, clinging to him tightly and refusing to let go.
In her dream, Zuo Siqiu wanted to do only one thing: tightly hug the ice sculpture in front of her and never let go. In the dream, she had turned into a small ball of fire; if she didn’t hold onto the ice, the fireball would grow larger and larger until it burned her to death, perhaps not even leaving ashes behind.
But she couldn’t die yet. She still had so many things to finish. She had only recently escaped the misery of her original family and hadn’t enjoyed life for very long—how could she die?
She hugged the ice sculpture even tighter, eventually climbing on top of it, her burning face and lips kissing the cold cheeks of the ice. That chill, which didn’t burn her, felt immensely comfortable. She even wanted more; she wanted this coolness to penetrate deep into her body, enter her dantian, and wrap around the little chaotic flames dancing inside her.
She wanted to eat this ice sculpture into her stomach. But when she lightly nibbled on the ice’s lips, the soft texture felt like jelly how could she bear to bite through it in one go? Besides, she hadn’t eaten jelly in a long time. Thinking this in her dream, Zuo Siqiu felt a bit greedy.
This was her dream, after all; the dream could satisfy everything. Thus, the ice sculpture turned into a “frozen jelly man.” His body was no longer hard like ice, yet it still carried a coolness she couldn’t resist. However, there seemed to be a wrapper between them, so the chill couldn’t fully permeate through.
Zuo Siqiu unceremoniously stripped the wrapper off the frozen jelly man and removed her own clothes, lying on top of the jelly man in total comfort. She still wanted more, but she was so tired; she felt she had no strength to move.
She rubbed her head against the jelly man’s shoulder, thinking to herself how the man in her dream was like a paralytic. “Why don’t you move… You’re the man, men should be proactive, girls should be demure…” Her voice was tender and soft, and because it was in a dream, it was also very sticky; if one didn’t listen closely, they wouldn’t know what she was saying.
Xuan Mo, of course, heard it crystal clear, even letting out a deep sigh because of it.
After a moment, Zuo Siqiu somehow gained a burst of strength. “You’re so slow, I’ll just do it myself.”
But she couldn’t actually move on her own. Fortunately, that jelly man wasn’t truly paralyzed; the male protagonist in the dream was also influenced by her subconscious. The man finally began to be proactive. His movements were slightly unrefined but unhurried, greatly soothing Zuo Siqiu’s body that was being scorched by the intense fire.
Zuo Siqiu felt an icy-cold chill surge into her dantian. The chill was neither too much nor too little, just enough to wrap around the little flames in her dantian. This was the first time since falling ill that Zuo Siqiu felt comfort radiating from the inside out; she no longer felt the burning heat of being on fire.
Of course, the small flames in her dantian didn’t go out; they simply turned into a spark like a firefly, warming her body without harming her. However, after the jelly man turned into a chill to wrap the flames, he melted away.
Watching the jelly man disappear from her side, Zuo Siqiu couldn’t help but shed tears. “You’re a good person… a great person… sacrificing yourself to save others…”
After crying for a while, she realized this was her dream, so she could just create the jelly man again. But the jelly man she created afterward was very different from the previous one. His aura wasn’t as icy and comfortable, and he couldn’t be held; as soon as she hugged him, he turned into a cloud of mist. This jelly man, who could only be viewed from afar and not played with, was better than nothing. Drowsily, Zuo Siqiu watched the jelly man and gradually fell asleep.
After she fell asleep, a Body Restoration Pill slowly floated to her mouth. A gentle aura parted her lips, feeding her the pill. Following that, Xuan Mo fed her two Qi-Harmonizing Pills to consolidate her cultivation.
Last night, Zuo Siqiu had clung to him for dual cultivation. The dual cultivation had cleared most of the pill poison from her body and simultaneously raised her cultivation level. If she didn’t stabilize it, breaking through to the Golden Core stage with unstable cultivation would do her no good at all.
After finishing all this, Xuan Mo drove his wheelchair into the courtyard and looked up at the bright moon. The clear moonlight fell on his face; Xuan Mo, who usually didn’t have much color in his face, seemed to be wrapped in a layer of polished jade by the moonlight, making his features appear even more exquisite and handsome.
The big rooster woke up at some point and circled around him clucking for a while. It felt like the person in front of it was its master, yet its master’s aura was too thin; what was more potent was the scent of another person it didn’t like. After a while, it finally realized that the person in front of it was indeed the one it disliked, only he was covered in much more of its master’s scent than before!
After recognizing who it was, the big rooster took two steps back, looked back to curse a few times, and then left grumbling.
Xuan Mo’s gaze fell on the fleeing chicken, and he murmured in a very good mood, “One day, a bowl of stewed chicken soup must be placed on this seat’s table.”
The big rooster scrambled away on its legs, not daring to grumble anymore. It was seventy percent similar to its master.
Xuan Mo sat in the courtyard until dawn.
…
When Zuo Siqiu woke up, it was already broad daylight. She sat up, feeling that some parts of her body seemed different from before. Where was the change? She saw that the fire in her dantian had become smaller!
Zuo Siqiu breathed a sigh of relief. The Demon Medic had finally prescribed the right medicine; if that fire had kept burning, she might have been nothing but ashes in a few days.
Vaguely, she recalled that dream from yesterday. However, this time she felt neither shy nor joyful, but instead frowned in annoyance. She had just discovered traces of her sister yesterday and decided to take the initiative against her Master at such an important time, how could she still have such a dream?
When she walked into the courtyard and saw Xuan Mo, watching him bathed in the sunlight which gave him a layer of warmth, she felt inexplicably guilty. She went forward and asked, “Did the Venerable One not sleep last night?”
Xuan Mo gave her a cold sideways glance. “The moonlight was clear last night, so I sat in the courtyard all night.”
Zuo Siqiu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She knew it had to be a dream. However, she couldn’t try to test him further in the future, lest she provoke his suspicion. If he found out she dreamed of him every night, he would probably be angry. She had actually used the Venerable One as the protagonist in her dream; even she thought she was being a bit too much.
After everything was over, she would have to find some Buddhist sutras to read and clear her mind of desires.
But for now, the most important thing was her sister and her Master. She walked to Xuan Mo and squatted down, looking exceptionally well-behaved. “Venerable One, can’t orders be placed with the profound Cloud Sect?”
Xuan Mo arched an eyebrow. “What order do you want to place? Do you want the disciples of the sect to kill your Master? If so, I’m afraid only this seat will do.”
Zuo Siqiu immediately shook her head. “Then no.” Then a flash of cunning crossed her eyes. “Venerable One, I want the Mysterious Information Pavilion to help me spread some news. How much will that cost? Can it be charged to your account?”
Xuan Mo was angered into a cold laugh. “Everything is to be charged to my account? Then when will you ever pay it back?”
Zuo Siqiu pulled out her pouch. She only had things in one pouch now; her previous dowry had been mostly used up piece by piece. The entire pouch was now filled with precious alchemy materials she had exchanged her dowry for. She took out the last ten top-grade spirit stones from her dowry. “I only have these ten top-grade spirit stones left. Can I use these to have the Mysterious Information Pavilion help me spread news?”
“But after I use these ten top-grade spirit stones, I’ll have no money at all…” Her tone was pitiful; no one could have the heart to snatch away her last bit of property.
Xuan Mo, however, was not polite at all and took the ten stones from her palm. Seeing that Xuan Mo actually intended to take them, Zuo Siqiu immediately regretted it and tried to clench her hand shut, but Xuan Mo pried it open. She watched helplessly as he took her final assets.
In truth, these ten top-grade spirit stones could only be exchanged for a hundred thousand ordinary spirit stones, which was nowhere near enough to commission the Mysterious Information Pavilion. But Xuan Mo felt exceptionally refreshed seeing Zuo Siqiu’s pained expression and decided to give her a “bone-breaking” discount. “What news do you want the Mysterious Information Pavilion to spread?”
Zuo Siqiu said, “Today I will go to Fu Gui again to collect more information about my Master’s furnaces. I want to ask the Mysterious Information Pavilion to first tell the sects or families of these furnaces about their whereabouts and their current tragic states.”
Xuan Mo said, “You should know that this is not enough to shake your Master. He is the best alchemist in the cultivation world.”
Zuo Siqiu looked at Xuan Mo and said, “Venerable One, Fu Gui was taken by my Master to be a furnace; you don’t feel this affects you personally because Fu Gui isn’t an indispensable or important character in the profound Cloud Sect, right?”
Xuan Mo arched an eyebrow.
Zuo Siqiu continued, “But if there are more people like Fu Gui around him, his cultivation will surely increase faster than anyone expects. He is also a genius at alchemy. The profound Cloud Sect also has to buy spirit pills from the Bixia Sect. If one day he puts something else in your pills just like how he poisoned me to poison you, or even wants to use you as his furnace or medicinal catalyst… will you still be able to face this calmly then?”
