After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 78
Chi Ye arrived at the company in the morning, swiftly handled all her tasks, and then drove over at top speed.
Although she had promised to arrive before Chu Jin made her appearance, she still hoped to accompany Chu Jin at the fashion show as early as possible.
After all, this was Chu Jin’s first time participating in Fashion Week, not to mention wearing a rival brand’s designs.
She needed to keep an eye on things personally to feel at ease.
Yet when she rushed anxiously to the backstage of the show, Chu Jin was nowhere to be seen.
Song Xunyu was sitting in front of the makeup mirror, playing with her phone. When she saw Chi Ye, she put it down and said, “She went to the restroom.”
A moment later, she frowned slightly. “But she’s been gone for quite a while and hasn’t come back yet…”
Chi Ye’s pupils constricted.
Her heart felt as though it had been gripped tightly by something.
A sense of foreboding slowly rose within her.
She didn’t let her panic show. First, she called Chu Jin, but no one answered.
Then she sent a message to He Xian.
[Has Wan Qing returned recently?]
Her hands trembled as she typed.
After sending it, she stared intently at the screen, waiting for a reply.
Fortunately, He Xian responded quickly.
[No.]
Ever since Wan Qing fled abroad, Chi Ye had remained uneasy, instructing He Xian to keep an eye on the Wan family’s movements. If Wan Qing returned, she needed to be informed in advance.
To Chi Ye, Wan Qing was like a ticking time bomb. She didn’t care about herself, but she couldn’t let Chu Jin get dragged into it.
Now that she confirmed it wasn’t Wan Qing, Chi Ye relaxed slightly. But she still couldn’t let her guard down. She hurried toward the restroom, continuing to call Chu Jin along the way but there was still no answer.
She searched carefully but found nothing.
Chu Jin was missing.
Chu Jin had disappeared.
The thought flashed through Chi Ye’s mind.
The thing she had always feared had suddenly happened, feeling as unreal as a dream. Her heart was like a lone boat adrift in the sea, swaying without direction.
Song Xunyu was also growing worried and tried to reassure herself. “Maybe something came up?”
“But she wouldn’t turn off her phone,” Jiang Xu said, pausing her work with a concerned expression.
Chi Ye didn’t speak. Her lips had already lost all color.
A woman who usually dominated the business world was now visibly flustered.
She quickly picked up her phone and made several calls in succession.
“I’ve just arranged it. Go to the surveillance room on the second floor and have them pull up the footage from earlier. Once you find Chu Jin’s whereabouts, call me,” Chi Ye said to Song Xunyu, then took her phone to save her own number.
At the same time, she glanced at Jiang Xu. “You keep preparing for your show.”
Song Xunyu nodded vigorously, took the phone, and sprinted toward the surveillance room. Chi Ye immediately began searching everywhere else.
She had to find Chu Jin as quickly as possible.
The venue was packed today, so it was unlikely Chu Jin had been forcibly taken meaning she must have gone willingly.
So whoever took her must have given a convincing reason.
Most likely, it was related to today’s show.
That meant Chu Jin was probably still somewhere in the venue.
But Chi Ye couldn’t calm down enough to think logically about where Chu Jin might be. She could only enter different rooms one by one, searching desperately.
Time ticked by, and the anxiety reached its peak.
Until Chi Ye arrived at the quiet, secluded lounge on the third floor.
Right at that moment, her phone rang.
Chi Ye moved swiftly, the ringtone had barely sounded before she answered the call.
“Room 307 on the third floor. Chu Jin was taken there,” Song Xunyu’s voice was urgent. “It’s Qu Miaoyan’s lounge.”
Hearing that name, Chi Ye’s steps faltered.
Then she sprinted down the hallway, found Room 307, and began pounding on the door with desperate force.
“Chu Jin! Chu Jin, are you in there?!”
“Qu Miaoyan, open this damn door right now! If you dare lay a finger on Chu Jin, I swear I’ll end you, believe it or not!”
“OPEN THE DOOR!”
Chi Ye’s eyes were bloodshot, fury burning at its peak.
The violent knocking echoed through the empty corridor.
Until—
A soft click.
The door opened.
Chu Jin’s face appeared.
Her hair was slightly disheveled, and a streak of blood marked the back of her hand.
Chi Ye’s raised fist froze mid-air.
After a stunned moment, she grabbed Chu Jin’s shoulders, grip tight as if afraid she might vanish again. “Are you okay? Are you hurt? Did she do anything to you?”
Seeing Chi Ye’s frantic expression, Chu Jin couldn’t help but reach up to gently touch her wrist. A faint smile curled at her lips as she replied calmly,
“I’m fine.”
Chi Ye frowned, confused.
Then her gaze shifted past Chu Jin’s shoulder to the scene inside the room.
Broken glass littered the floor. Three or four burly men were sprawled or slumped against the walls, all bruised and battered, cowering in corners.
On the nearby sofa sat Qu Miaoyan, her face blank, hair a tangled mess. Her cheeks were flushed, a faint handprint visible.
She looked utterly humiliated.
Chi Ye was speechless. All her earlier worry and panic clogged in her throat, leaving her stammering.
“…You did this?”
Chu Jin flexed her wrist, a smug grin spreading.
“Yeah. I did.”
Earlier, Chu Jin had learned from Qu Miaoyan that this was the only occupied lounge in the area, the others were unused. That was why Qu Miaoyan had acted so brazenly. Still, there was always a chance someone might wander by and witness the scene, which wouldn’t be ideal.
So Chu Jin quickly pulled Chi Ye inside and locked the door behind them.
Chi Ye stood frozen, scanning the room again.
It felt like a dream.
Chu Jin pointed at the men on the floor, disdain dripping from her voice. “Don’t let their size fool you. They’re nothing special, still ended up crying for mercy.”
The men shrank back, none daring to meet her gaze.
It was the first time Chi Ye truly understood.
What it meant to be a high-tier Alpha.
Chu Jin herself hadn’t known she had this kind of explosive strength. After her differentiation, tests at the institute had labeled her an S-grade elite Alpha, but she’d never grasped what exactly made her “elite.”
Maybe it was just slightly heightened strength during her rut.
Now, she finally got it.
Her elite status manifested in her ability to throw hands.
Twenty minutes earlier, Qu Miaoyan had cornered her in this room, backed by three men forcing her to drink that glass of liquor.
It didn’t take much imagination to guess what was in that drink.
Chu Jin tried to take out her phone to call for help, but someone snatched it away and threw it in the trash.
At that point, with no way out left, the only option was to fight back with everything she had.
Who would have thought that this desperate struggle would unlock her hidden potential.
Qu Miaoyan looked timid, as if she’d suffered some shock, trembling as she finally dared to glance at Chi Ye after a long pause. “Chi Ye? How could you.?”
Chi Ye gave her a cold look. Though Chu Jin was unharmed, he couldn’t help but deliver a threatening line.
“You dared to lay hands on my wife.”
A tear hung at the corner of Qu Miaoyan’s eye as she inwardly lamented her misfortune.
She hurried to explain, “I didn’t know. I thought you two were just business partners.”
Blinded by lust, she had intended to drug Chu Jin to satisfy her desires. Not only had she failed, but she’d also been thoroughly beaten up. To make matters worse, Chu Jin turned out to have significant backing, she was actually Chi Ye’s partner.
If Chu Jin’s protector had been anyone else, it might have been manageable. But of all people, it had to be Chi Ye.
This was truly a case of the gains not outweighing the losses.
“Do you remember now?” Chi Ye stepped toward Qu Miaoyan, his eyes filled with murderous coldness.
Seeing this, Chu Jin quickly grabbed Chi Ye’s arm and intervened, “I already slapped her ten times just now. No need for more.”
“I’m afraid her delicate constitution might not withstand another beating.”
No sooner had she spoken than Song Xunyu’s voice suddenly rang out from outside the door, accompanied by the footsteps of two or three people.
“Chu Jin! Chi Ye!! We’re here to save you!!”
“Everyone in Room 307, surrender immediately!!”
The footsteps approached rapidly, stopping right outside the door.
Then came the sound of a key being inserted into the lock and turned.
Chi Ye quickly moved toward the door, pausing to warn the others before opening it.
“Not a sound.”
Then he cracked the door open just a sliver.
Seeing Chi Ye’s unhurried demeanor, Song Xunyu grew anxious. “What’s going on? What happened?”
“Open the door.”
He pushed against the door with force, but Chi Ye held it firmly in place.
“Everything’s fine,” Chi Ye said, pressing against the door as he spun a lie. “Chu Jin is fine. She’s just here to ask Qu Miaoyan for some acting tips.”
Song Xunyu was immediately dumbfounded. “What?!”
“Right,” Chi Ye nodded, putting on a convincing act. “They’re still practicing now.”
“Her phone was on silent, so she missed your calls.” Chi Ye continued to fend them off, glancing at Chu Jin out of the corner of his eye and adding a bit of truth:
“I might have overreacted earlier.”
Song Xunyu pressed his lips into a thin line, thoroughly exasperated.
Chi Ye apologized and then urged, “You all go back first. We’ll catch up later.”
Though somewhat speechless, Song Xunyu was at least relieved that nothing serious had happened.
A false alarm was the best possible outcome.
Once they left, Chi Ye closed the door again.
And locked it.
Turning back, he exchanged a look with Chu Jin.
The air hung heavy for a few seconds before both of them burst out laughing.
Chu Jin wiped the blood off the back of her hand with a tissue, surveyed the wreckage in the room, and asked with a smile, “What now?”
“Leave it to me.”
Chi Ye’s grin deepened as he raised an eyebrow. “You handled the beating. I’ll handle the cleanup.”
Ever since the incident happened, Chu Jin noticed that Chi Ye had a dark cloud hanging over his brow, as if pondering something important.
After the fashion show ended today, when Chi Ye was driving Chu Jin back to their place, she couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, “Why have you been so gloomy? Is something bothering you?”
Chi Ye glanced at her, hesitating to speak.
His gaze returned to the road ahead, but his fingers gripping the steering wheel visibly tightened.
The air remained silent for a long moment before he finally spoke:
“Maybe we should go public.”
Chu Jin: “Huh?”
So sudden?
Chu Jin thought he was joking, but Chi Ye’s expression was deadly serious.
“I’ll talk to your agency about this. Going public could significantly boost the popularity of our drama and give your career a lift.
But don’t worry about any negative impact. I’ll pave the way for you and make sure it doesn’t interfere with your rising career,” Chi Ye laid out his thoughts clearly.
“Though the main reason is. I don’t want just any random person thinking they can touch you in the future.
I never want you to experience what happened today ever again.”
