After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 47
Chi Ye handled the matter with great care. After Chu Jin had fallen asleep the previous night, she went to find Director Qin Shiyun and requested access to all surveillance footage.
Qin Shiyun initially thought Chi Ye was looking for footage of the swimming pool, so she immediately shared the real situation.
Although she didn’t want the program to collapse, she had to admit the truth. There was no camera that captured the full scene of Chu Jin drowning. That part of the pool was a blind spot. Even if the inflatable boat hadn’t been in the way, it would have been impossible to see anything from that angle.
“President Chi, it’s my fault for not thoroughly inspecting the camera positions. I missed that area, which is why we can’t get a clear answer about what happened.” Qin Shiyun’s voice trembled slightly as she glanced nervously at Chi Ye, who had remained silent.
After a long pause, Chi Ye finally spoke.
Her cold eyes swept across Qin Shiyun’s face without any emotion. “I originally planned to deal with this after the show ended.”
“But you’re right. This happened under your supervision. As the director, it is your responsibility.”
“I invested fifty million yuan, and even that wasn’t enough for you to ensure the safety protocols were in place. A director like you has no future.” Chi Ye tapped her finger lightly on the table. “So, let’s just say I was blind and invested in the wrong project.”
“And I don’t mind losing that fifty million.”
By then, all the recent footage had been fully transferred. Chi Ye took the storage card handed to her by a staff member and walked out the door without hesitation.
Qin Shiyun stood there, pale and stunned.
Outside the villa, Assistant He Xian had already arrived. Chi Ye handed her the storage card and told her to make multiple backup copies.
He Xian nodded and was just about to drive away when Chi Ye called her back.
“President Chi, is there anything else?”
“Make sure to carefully check all the gifts I prepared.” Chi Ye paused for a moment. “Jin Jin and I will be leaving in the next couple of days.”
“Yes, President Chi.”
The surveillance footage had clearly captured Qiao Man giving the stuffed toy to Chu Jin. Tracing the video receiver was easy. It was connected to Qiao Man’s frequently used IP address.
It could only be described as not just malicious but also foolish.
Before dawn, the police arrived quietly and took Qiao Man into custody. Chi Ye accompanied Chu Jin to the police station to give her statement.
All of this took place before the next live broadcast. When Chi Ye and Chu Jin returned, it was still before noon. Even though Qin Shiyun had lost most of her fighting spirit, she still held her post, determined to see the show through to the end.
To avoid raising suspicions among viewers, the production team released a statement explaining that Qiao Man had left the show early due to personal reasons.
Still, some viewers were well-informed, and rumors began to circulate online.
As a longtime gossip lover, Xin Ning had always been interested in celebrity drama. Now, being so close to it, her curiosity was unbearable.
Her roommates had also been bombarding her with questions.
So, behind Wan Qing’s dark expression, Xin Ning secretly tried to gather information from everyone. However, she found nothing, not even from Yan Sisi, who was completely clueless.
It was clear that Chi Ye had orchestrated everything. What surprised everyone was how ruthless she could be. She didn’t act often, but when she did, she sent her romantic rival straight to the police.
Chi Ye was definitely someone no one should provoke.
After asking Chi Ye about Wan Qing last night and receiving no answer, Chu Jin had felt uneasy. Still, she tried to comfort herself. Everyone has a past and secrets they choose not to share.
Maybe their relationship wasn’t close enough yet.
After Qiao Man left, the atmosphere inside the villa became strange. It no longer felt like a warm and loving space. Instead, it resembled a mansion filled with secrets and tension.
Thankfully, the production team had not given up. They even prepared hot pot for lunch.
Steam rose from the bubbling broth. The boiling ingredients released a mouthwatering aroma that brought some life back into the quiet house.
By then, Wan Qing had already disappeared. Only eight people remained, sitting together just like in the beginning.
“Tomorrow is confession day, right?” Zhou Meng broke the silence.
“Yes.” Xin Ning had been feeling suffocated by the heavy atmosphere. Now that someone had spoken, she quickly responded, “Time really flew by. I can still remember what we looked like on the first day we got here.”
“Didn’t we eat hot pot for our first meal?” Wen Zhixue asked as she picked up a slice of beef.
“No, we didn’t.” Yan Sisi joined the conversation too. “The first meal was takeout Chinese food from the crew. We had hot pot on the second day.”
She turned to Bai Xuqing beside her, looking up like a loyal puppy. “Right, Bai Bai?”
Seeing her cute expression, Bai Xuqing couldn’t help but smile gently. “That sounds about right.”
The group continued to reminisce. Yan Sisi scooted closer to Bai Xuqing until their shoulders touched.
“I remember that day you even served me some food,” Yan Sisi said suddenly, pouting as if hurt. “Now you don’t anymore.”
“Bai Bai, do you not like me anymore?”
Yan Sisi always liked teasing her like this. Bai Xuqing rolled her eyes but her tone was still full of affection. “I’ll serve you now.”
“I want meat,” Yan Sisi instructed sweetly, then added in a whisper, “Make sure it’s a big piece.”
Bai Xuqing’s hand paused midair. She glanced back at Yan Sisi, her ears instantly turning red. She pressed her lips together, clearly trying not to smile but failing.
Seeing her reaction, Yan Sisi was overjoyed and gave a mischievous grin.
“I just meant so it doesn’t fall and burn you.”
“Bai Bai, where was your mind just now? Honestly.”
While the others were lost in happy memories, Chu Jin sat in a daze.
Chi Ye had also served her some food earlier, but Chu Jin only gave a quiet “thank you” and didn’t say anything more.
Her mind was in chaos. She kept thinking about everything that happened today. She didn’t know what consequences Qiao Man and Wan Qing would face. At the same time, she was at odds with Chi Ye.
They had barely spoken all day.
Suddenly, Xin Ning’s voice brought Chu Jin back to the present. “Jie jie, do you remember?”
Chu Jin hadn’t heard what was said before, so she was confused. “What?”
Xin Ning patiently repeated herself. “That night during Truth or Dare, when you and Chi Ye ate the gummy candy.”
“That scene was intense, and you looked really bold.” Xin Ning figured the show was coming to an end and it was already obvious that Chu Jin and Chi Ye had feelings for each other, so she didn’t mind asking something daring. She continued, “I’ve always wanted to know. Were you so forward that night because you were drunk? Or did you already like Chi Ye from the beginning?”
Chu Jin hadn’t expected such a direct question.
She glanced at Chi Ye, who was already looking at her.
Chi Ye was waiting for her answer too.
Everyone’s eyes were now on her.
And in that moment, Chu Jin’s thoughts drifted back to that unforgettable night.
She still remembered that night. The breeze was cool, yet her heart felt as if it were burning gently. When she had eaten the gummy candy, her eyes couldn’t help lingering on Chi Ye’s lips. She had restrained herself again and again, just barely stopping herself from leaning in to kiss her.
Even now, thinking about that moment made her heart race.
“I think,” Chu Jin cleared her throat softly. Her eyes stayed on Chi Ye for a moment before she spoke in a warm tone, “it was a little bit of both.”
“Wow,” Xin Ning’s eyes lit up, clearly delighted by the answer. Her face showed genuine excitement. “I knew you already liked her back then. You just wouldn’t admit it.”
“I did not.” Chu Jin always thought of herself as brave, but when faced with someone as blunt as Xin Ning, she still felt a little overwhelmed. “Don’t say things like that.”
“I really helped your relationship develop, you know.” Xin Ning grinned proudly. After a few sips of alcohol, her cheeks were slightly flushed, and her words flowed without filter. “Remember the blindfold game that day? I gave you a pep talk that morning.”
Chu Jin looked confused at first. Then her expression changed completely.
“You thought Chi Ye liked someone else at the time,” Xin Ning laughed, clearly enjoying herself. “But I could tell right away. Chi Ye only had eyes for you, and you didn’t believe it.”
“But after my very persuasive explanation, you finally saw the truth.”
Chu Jin was now giving Xin Ning a series of increasingly desperate looks, trying to signal her to stop. But Xin Ning paid no attention and continued speaking with enthusiasm.
“You went out for a walk after that, didn’t you? When you came back, we invited you to play a board game. You refused and went straight upstairs.”
The more Xin Ning said, the more nervous Chu Jin became.
Especially when she noticed how seriously Chi Ye was listening.
Xin Ning had really been paying close attention that day. She suddenly asked, “Did you go find Chi Ye and clear things up with her?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Yan Sisi, who had been quietly enjoying the gossip, froze. Her eyes immediately shifted toward Chi Ye.
Chi Ye remembered that moment clearly now.
No wonder Chu Jin had acted so distant during the blindfold game.
It wasn’t just a misunderstanding.
She had been jealous.
Chu Jin felt conflicted. Even though she had figured out the truth later, hearing it all brought back a strange mix of emotions.
“I,” Chu Jin hesitated. She wasn’t sure how to respond to the question.
While she was still thinking about what to say, Chi Ye suddenly spoke up.
“I didn’t know about that. There must have been some misunderstanding.” She stood up and added, “Excuse me, everyone. I need to clear something up.”
Then she looked at Chu Jin and motioned for her to come with her.
Xin Ning waved her hand playfully and said, “If you’re having a lovers’ misunderstanding, go clear it up. Go on.”
Chu Jin followed Chi Ye to the front yard. The two of them sat together on the swing.
The summer sun was getting hotter, but a large umbrella offered enough shade to soften the harsh light.
Chi Ye was the first to speak. “What you said earlier. Was that how you truly felt when we had the gummy candy?”
She had been surprised by Chu Jin’s answer. She hadn’t expected her to already have feelings back then.
Chu Jin hadn’t thought Chi Ye would bring up that moment first. She looked at her and asked, “Weren’t you going to explain things to me?”
Although Chi Ye didn’t respond right away, she had already noticed the slight blush on Chu Jin’s ears. That was enough of an answer.
“Did you hear everything that day?” Chi Ye asked quietly.
“I did,” Chu Jin replied without hesitation. Her toes touched the ground and gave the swing a gentle push, creating a slow, steady rhythm.
The swing moved softly, and her heart seemed to rise and fall with it.
“That day was just a misunderstanding. I wasn’t doing anything with Yan Sisi. I was only asking her for advice.”
Chu Jin suddenly became curious. She glanced at Chi Ye and asked, “What kind of advice?”
Chi Ye didn’t answer right away.
Clearly, teasing Chi Ye in public had been amusing, and now in private it felt just as satisfying. Chu Jin noticed the complicated expression on her face and added softly, “If you don’t explain it properly, I’ll be really upset.”
Chi Ye narrowed her eyes slightly. She finally realized Chu Jin was teasing her on purpose.
The nervous tension she had felt earlier slowly melted away. She leaned back against the swing’s cushion, her long hair swaying gently with the movement.
“Trying to explain it with words won’t mean much,” Chi Ye said, her tone more relaxed now. She tilted her head slightly and glanced at Chu Jin from the corner of her eye.
Her voice was low and suggestive.
“I’ll show you later when we’re in bed.”
