After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret - Chapter 14
The cameras didn’t catch what had just happened, but the two people in the other car saw everything.
Yan Sisi was filled with envy and bitterness. Chi Ye could be so open and bold about being close to her “wife,” while the person she liked had actually sent a heart-fluttering message to someone else.
Bai Xuqing, on the other hand, was visibly shaken.
Watching those two being so intimate, her usually calm and composed demeanor faltered. She looked stunned and whispered, “They… how could they…”
“That’s how they are,” Yan Sisi said flatly.
Bai Xuqing’s eyes darkened. She had sent a message to Chi Ye the night before, but clearly, Chi Ye had someone else in her heart.
Then, realizing something about Yan Sisi’s words, she asked, “Wait, what do you mean by that?”
Since Yan Sisi also wanted to reduce her competition and felt that Bai Xuqing could be trusted, she decided to tell her the truth.
She leaned in closer and whispered, “They know each other.”
“What?” Bai Xuqing frowned and leaned closer as well. “So they’ve been pretending not to know each other this whole time?”
Yan Sisi was already completely smitten watching her crush interact so sweetly with someone else, but she managed to stay rational. She didn’t reveal more, knowing that if Chi Ye found out she’d exposed the secret, she might chase her down to the ends of the earth.
Still, sharing this secret had its advantages. It killed two birds with one stone.
First, it made Bai Xuqing give up on Chi Ye. Second, it brought her closer to Bai Xuqing.
In fact, just within those few minutes, the space between them had shrunk until they were sitting shoulder to shoulder.
Still pretending to nap, Yan Sisi let her head gently rest on Bai Xuqing’s shoulder.
Meanwhile, things in Chu Jin’s car weren’t quite as relaxed.
Ever since Chi Ye had pulled her into the car by the waist, the air had been filled with silence. Five full minutes passed without a word.
Chu Jin hadn’t even managed to calm her racing heart.
“President Chi, if that moment was caught on camera, it might not be good,” she finally said.
But Chi Ye didn’t seem the least bit concerned.
“It’s fine. Anything that isn’t on the livestream, I can have the director edit out.”
She wasn’t wrong. Chi Ye hadn’t done anything overly bold in front of the live cameras. For scenes that were only being recorded for post-editing, it didn’t really matter.
Besides, maybe she had been genuinely irritated by Yan Sisi and acted on impulse.
“Alright,” Chu Jin replied after a pause. Then she added, “But next time, could you give me a heads-up? Maybe a glance or something. It was too sudden.”
Chi Ye turned to look at her, her tone suddenly playful.
“Just a little waist grab and you can’t handle it?”
There was a hint of teasing in her voice, even something vaguely suggestive.
For some reason, Chu Jin’s pride flared up at that. Maybe it was Chi Ye’s slightly dismissive tone, or maybe it was just that competitive streak in her.
She could say she wasn’t used to it, or that it was too abrupt, but to imply she couldn’t handle it?
Chu Jin looked back at her, eyes calm and steady. “I can handle anything.”
Then she added with meaning, “The question is, can you?”
“Then show me,” Chi Ye said casually, narrowing her eyes. “I’ll give you full authority.”
So it was just about putting on a show of affection in front of Yan Sisi. If it was all an act, Chu Jin had no problem with that. After all, she studied acting. How could she not deliver on something this basic?
Her lips curved into a soft, confident smile, her eyes filled with feigned tenderness.
“Alright, darling.”
“Get ready to watch me perform.”
Even though she had boldly played along in the car, just before they got out, Chu Jin still lost a bit of her nerve. She couldn’t help but remind Chi Ye, “President Chi, don’t forget to ask the director to cut all the footage from the car.”
The four of them got out and walked into the supermarket. As soon as they entered, Chi Ye walked straight over and grabbed a shopping cart like it was second nature.
Chu Jin was a little surprised. With Chi Ye’s background and status, just showing up at a supermarket was already unexpected. And now she was taking the initiative to get the cart too? It made Chu Jin wonder if this President Chi was secretly hiding a whole other side.
Maybe she wasn’t clueless about daily life after all. Maybe she was actually a domestic expert.
Still, Chu Jin took the cart from her hands.
As she had said in the car, it was time for her to start performing.
“I’ll take it,” she said sweetly, giving Chi Ye a soft, loving glance.
But Chi Ye didn’t let go.
Chu Jin thought her acting wasn’t convincing enough, so she added with a playful tone, “Let me handle things like this, alright? Be good.”
Yan Sisi, watching from the side, actually got goosebumps. Bai Xuqing, on the other hand, looked like a doting aunt. She hadn’t expected to join a romance reality show and end up fangirling over what felt like a real couple.
Chi Ye’s expression stiffened a little. Worried that Chu Jin might say something even more outrageous, she finally released her grip on the cart.
Chu Jin didn’t forget to send her another “loving” look.
They had already decided roughly what they wanted to cook, so they split up into pairs to shop. Chu Jin pushed the cart while checking the grocery list saved in her phone.
“Let’s go. First, we need to get some scallions,” she said, pointing to the right. “They should be over there.”
Chi Ye followed her gaze and walked in that direction. Under Chu Jin’s watchful eyes, she picked up a bundle of vegetables.
Holding the tied-up bundle by the thin string, she gave it a little shake and asked, “Is this it?”
Chu Jin was speechless for a moment.
She had really overestimated her.
She had actually thought, just a moment ago, that Chi Ye might be some kind of culinary expert. Now it seemed that getting the cart earlier had just been a way to avoid this exact kind of awkward situation.
“Well,” Chu Jin said, holding back laughter, “they do look a little similar, but that’s chives, not scallions.”
She pointed to the sign.
“Besides, each item has a label above it, President Chi.”
Chi Ye looked a little surprised. She frowned and glanced back at the vegetable shelf.
Only then did she realize that she had really picked up chives by mistake.
“Oh. Sorry,” she said casually, putting the chives back where they belonged. “You pointed in that direction, so I just grabbed it without reading the label.”
Chu Jin’s smile immediately froze on her face.
She should have known. This was classic proud and aloof President Chi.
Even a simple mistake could somehow be blamed on her.
After that, Chi Ye quietly took over the shopping cart. Without a word, they switched roles. It was clear that Chu Jin would be the one doing the actual choosing.
Even though Chu Jin was not a great cook, she could at least recognize basic vegetables. She definitely wouldn’t mistake scallions for chives.
When they arrived at the fruit section, Chu Jin picked up an apple, looked at the price, and quickly set it back down.
Two apples cost sixty-eight yuan.
That was ridiculously expensive.
“Why did you put them back?” Chi Ye asked, noticing what she had done.
“They’re too expensive,” Chu Jin answered honestly.
Chi Ye pushed the cart forward and casually walked up to the display. She picked up the apples and dropped them into the cart.
“With fifty million in funding, are you really afraid we’ll run out?”
Chu Jin didn’t know how to respond.
She had to admit, that made sense.
She added two more apples to the cart just in case.
They finished shopping quickly. Besides the ingredients for lunch, they also picked up a good amount of fruit and snacks.
Soon, the car returned to the villa.
The four people who had stayed behind had already gone off to do their own things. Zhou Meng was reading in the living room. Wen Zhixue was working on her laptop. Chen Mo was painting in the courtyard, while Xin Ning sat nearby keeping her company. The two of them were chatting quietly now and then.
When Zhou Meng saw them come in, she put down her book and walked over.
“You’re back. What did you buy?”
Wen Zhixue came jogging over as well. When she saw the two large bags they were carrying, her eyes lit up with surprise.
“That’s a lot. Are we having a big feast today?”
Bai Xuqing smiled at her. “I’ll do my best to make it a feast.”
When Yan Sisi saw Bai Xuqing smiling at someone else, a wave of jealousy hit her. Not wanting to be left out, she quickly added, “I’ll help you. The two of us together can win everyone’s hearts through their stomachs.”
As the others continued talking about cooking, Chu Jin felt a bit out of place. She glanced at Chi Ye.
The two of them clearly had nothing to contribute in the kitchen.
She just smiled politely, then followed Chi Ye toward the kitchen, carrying some of the bags.
Wen Zhixue followed too, but stayed on Chi Ye’s side.
Looking up at her with a sweet expression, she asked, “Is it heavy?”
Chi Ye didn’t even look at her. She answered calmly, “If it is, are you going to carry it?”
Wen Zhixue laughed awkwardly and gave an innocent look. “I couldn’t carry it by myself, of course.”
She tilted her head slightly and added in a soft, playful tone, “But I could help you.”
Chi Ye didn’t know what to say.
Watching from the side, Chu Jin found it amusing but decided to step in before things got more awkward.
“She’s strong enough to handle everything on her own. Don’t worry about her.”
