After Losing My Memory, I Went After My Archenemy - Chapter 4
Lin Xi’s wrist was powerful and steady, preventing Xia Rou from falling.
However, this forced the distance between the two to close. The alpha’s pheromone was still being released, like a fatal fragrance in this cramped space.
This strong yet pleasant scent relentlessly invaded Xia Rou’s brain, threatening to engulf her.
Just a slight lift of her head allowed her to see Lin Xi’s fair and slender neck, and the emptiness at the back of the neck seemed to perfectly explain the reason for the pheromone leak.
So she wasn’t injured, just a damaged suppression patch.
But she really looked beautiful; even her profile was flawless.
“You should leave.”
Lin Xi’s sudden voice interrupted Xia Rou’s prolonged and slightly distracted gaze.
The alpha in front of her looked as calm and unruffled as usual, which made Xia Rou deeply doubt herself—would an Omega lying in her arms be completely indistinguishable from a block of wood?
“In my bag, there is, there is a suppression patch.”
Xia Rou realized with a jolt that she had begun to stutter. Her accelerating heartbeat drummed noisily against her eardrums, and the inexplicable tension made her face burn hot.
Lin Xi’s first reaction was to refuse.
Who would have thought that this Omega would stumble to her feet, pull out a brand new suppression patch from her bag, slap it onto the sink counter, and then, dizzily, like she was drunk, walk out of the restroom, not forgetting to close the door behind her.
This series of actions, in Lin Xi’s view, was actually a little… cute.
The thought caused Lin Xi considerable distress. She refocused her gaze on the suppression patch on the counter, stood in silence for a long time, and then finally reached for it.
She tore off the outer packaging, looked up at the square mirror in front of her, and pushed her shoulder-length hair behind her ear. Only then did Lin Xi notice her slightly reddened earlobes.
She hadn’t walked far from the restroom when a new diner pushed the door open. A blast of cool air from outside the restaurant instantly cleared about 70 to 80 percent of the fog in Xia Rou’s mind.
The beta waiter waiting in the corridor immediately stepped forward with concern when he saw her emerge.
“Are you alright?”
Xia Rou calmly waved him off and instinctively walked toward her own seat.
The beta waiter couldn’t help but glance at her a few more times, marveling internally. She truly was a beautiful Omega. He had never seen one. He had initially thought Lin Xi, who was temping at the restaurant, was the pinnacle of alpha beauty, but he hadn’t expected to encounter an Omega who could rival her.
The dispute in the restaurant seemed to be over. One of the two tables of guests had left, and the remaining staff were busy clearing up the mess, determined not to leave a bad impression on the next patrons.
As Xia Rou passed, she heard the remaining guests at that table complain, “What kind of people are those, getting so heated over a vegetarian meal!”
Just as she returned to her seat, her ordered dishes were presented, as if they were waiting for her.
Xia Rou unconsciously leaned back, letting the chair back half-embrace her. Involuntarily, her mind flashed back to the physical sensation of being held by Lin Xi a short while ago. Every cell in her body was shamelessly savoring the memory.
She couldn’t help but look in that direction again.
Hadn’t Lin Xi come out yet?
Or had she already left and gone somewhere else?
Newly composed, Lin Xi had just exited the restroom when an inquisitive colleague rushed up to ask about the situation. The only reply she got was Lin Xi’s expressionless answer: “Nothing happened.”
“That Omega lady just now, did you know her?” the colleague asked again.
The words ‘somewhat known’ were on the tip of her tongue, but Lin Xi ultimately changed it to: “I’m going to make a call,” and walked away, leaving the other person behind.
The dial tone on the other end lasted a bit long. The waiting alpha nervously tapped the iron railing in front of her.
This small balcony, less than two square meters, was one of the few private spaces for the restaurant staff. One side of the balcony connected to the street, where pedestrians came and went against the backdrop of the city’s colorful lights at night.
Finally, after a burst of static, a middle-aged man’s voice came through.
“Huh, niece, it’s Friday, didn’t you say you were going to work?”
Skipping the unnecessary pleasantries, Lin Xi went straight to the point: “Uncle, I might have run into a small problem.”
“Did you hit someone at the restaurant?”
“Did someone hit you at the restaurant?”
“…Tsk, I know. Did your rut come early?”
Lin Xi frowned, her expression shifting several times before settling down. She calmly countered, “Do you want to hear me out?”
After listening to her concise narration, the man on the other end of the phone fell into a brief silence, then took a deep breath and said, “You’ve come to the right person with this problem, your Uncle. I’ve been around the block a few times.”
Lin Xi’s ears automatically filtered out the self-flattering remarks, only catching the key information.
“From your description, that girl should be close to her heat, and judging by her reaction to your pheromone, her compatibility with you is at least no lower than 60%.”
Upon hearing the number 60%, Lin Xi’s eyelashes fluttered subtly.
She knew in her heart: it wasn’t 60%, it was 100%.
“…Will it have an impact on her?” Lin Xi asked, clenching her knuckles.
“The negative impact is hard to say. It depends on how close she is to her heat; the closer, the greater the impact. It also depends on how long she was exposed to your pheromone. The worst result is that it might trigger her heat early.”
In this social context, everyone knew that an early heat posed a much greater danger to an Omega than an alpha. Although public safety management was quite thorough, there were still news reports every year of Omegas experiencing early heat at night and being assaulted by alphas.
“Does your restaurant have tartary buckwheat tea? Get her some to drink. It should help somewhat with the dizziness and restlessness.”
“Yes.” Lin Xi paused, then couldn’t help but ask again, “What else?”
“Tsk, that’s all you need to do. You can’t possibly take full responsibility for someone else’s Omega, right? This sort of thing happens often. Don’t take it too hard, niece!”
Lin Xi: “…”
She felt even more uneasy after hearing this consolation.
Xia Rou was having her meal when a waiter suddenly served her a cup of tea, saying it was the restaurant’s apology.
She tasted it. It was slightly bitter but had a sweet aftertaste of malt, not entirely unpleasant.
It was then that her phone beeped with a new notification. The message interface, which had been stagnant for three days, finally received a response.
[Lin Xi]: Finish eating and go back early. Don’t linger outside.
Xia Rou couldn’t quite believe her eyes, holding her phone and repeatedly entering and exiting the message screen to confirm.
Since it was just text, she couldn’t discern the sender’s emotion.
Was this concern?
Or was it telling her to hurry up and leave?
After a moment of contemplation, she quietly put down her phone, deciding to wait until the other person got off work.
As time passed, the number of guests in the restaurant dwindled until only Xia Rou’s noticeable table remained.
In the staff area not far away, a colleague glanced at the serious, somewhat aloof alpha beside her, crossed her arms, and boldly asked, “She’s not waiting for you, is she?”
Lin Xi leaned against the wall with her knees bent, her eyes slightly narrowed. Her deep, dark gaze penetrated the empty tables and chairs of the restaurant, falling upon the girl with long, curly hair down to her waist and a porcelain-doll face. The faint yellow light fell on the tip of her nose, small and delicate.
Lin Xi couldn’t help but wonder if the other person had even seen the message she sent on the blog.
…No, she must have seen it.
The time came to 9:30 PM.
Finally, a waiter approached to remind Xia Rou that the restaurant was closing. She nodded lightly, politely picked up her bag, and went to pay the bill.
Just as she finished paying, she caught sight of Lin Xi, already off-duty, heading toward the restaurant exit. Forgetting to grab her receipt, she chased after her directly.
The colleague who had inquired earlier and received no answer from Lin Xi couldn’t help but mutter to herself, “She was waiting for her after all.”
The main entrance of the restaurant opened into a quiet alley, extending fifty meters before reaching the street corner.
Sensing footsteps following her, Lin Xi turned and paused.
She slightly clenched her hand at her side and met the gaze, remaining silent.
Xia Rou suppressed the frantic beating of her heart caused by nervousness, bravely took two steps forward, and shook her phone, saying, “I saw the message you sent.”
“What exactly do you want?”
Lin Xi stood tall and straight, like a towering and beautiful statue in the darkness, but the statue’s voice was not particularly polite.
This simple question encompassed the other person’s unusual behavior over the past few days.
Xia Rou simply ignored this and actively took a few more steps to close the distance between them, tilting her face up and smiling. Her eyes instantly curved into crescents, radiating a strong sense of youthfulness, like a little cat seeking favor.
“I helped you today. Is this how you treat your benefactor?”
“…Thank you.”
Lin Xi looked at her with her dark eyes, her brows furrowed in composed confusion.
“Just ‘thank you’ isn’t enough. At least it should be compensated in a different way.”
When the Omega spoke, there were no impurities in her pure, amber-like eyes, only joy—a joy that Lin Xi couldn’t read or understand.
“…What kind of compensation do you want?”
Lin Xi wondered if the other party was planning a new trick and decided to play along and ask.
“Hmm, I don’t know yet. I’ll tell you when I think of it,” Xia Rou replied lightly.
“I’m going home now.”
Lin Xi pursed her lips, then turned expressionlessly and continued toward the street corner.
Soon, she heard the footsteps following her again—a sound that, strangely, made her feel a subtle sense of peace.
She followed her all the way to the bus stop.
“Do you usually take the bus home?”
“Do you work at that restaurant every night, or just Fridays and weekends?”
As expected, all the questions Xia Rou threw out sank like stones, receiving no response from the person concerned.
Just when she felt frustrated about how to attract the other’s attention, Lin Xi surprisingly initiated a question.
“Where is your driver?”
She looked at Xia Rou faintly, her tone neither pleased nor angry. Due to the difference in their heights, Xia Rou had to make an effort to look up to meet her face.
“I dismissed him after school. I’ll take a taxi home.”
Xia Rou explained.
No sooner had she finished speaking than Lin Xi silently raised her hand and hailed a cab for her, the implication clear.
Seeing this, Xia Rou could only grit her teeth and get into the car.
She silently comforted herself: it was getting late. If she wanted to continue pursuing Lin Xi, she couldn’t possibly follow her all the way home.
What Xia Rou didn’t know was that shortly after her car left the bus stop, Lin Xi quickly got into another taxi.
When the driver asked Lin Xi where she was going, she replied without hesitation, “Follow that car ahead.”
She didn’t know how long passed until the car was stopped by a security guard. The driver had no choice but to remind her, “Miss, this is the East Suburb Villa area. Do you still want to go in?”
“…Wait a moment.”
Lin Xi slightly lifted her eyelids and glanced out the car window.
The driver was puzzled but stopped where he was to wait.
After another while, a taxi slowly drove out from inside. The dazzling headlights in the darkness turned at the entrance of the villa area, like a streak of light cutting through the dark night.
After confirming the license plate, Lin Xi said to the driver in the front seat, “You can leave now.”
