After Losing My Memory, I Went After My Archenemy - Chapter 16
If Li Luoyi remembered correctly, the female Alpha in front of her was the very person Xia Rou considered her sworn enemy at school, and who had a 100% match with her in the official resident pheromone matching announcement eighteen years ago.
Almost subconsciously, Li Luoyi secretly clenched her fists.
Alphas were inherently extremely possessive beings, especially concerning a mate.
Therefore, when the group at the opposite table proposed sharing, Li Luoyi instinctively and decisively refused. Yet, to her utter surprise, Xia Rou not only did not refuse but actively and willingly joined them.
Excluding Lin Xi, her perceived mortal enemy, could it be the other Alpha?
She looked like a player; how could Xia Rou possibly favor someone like that? Li Luoyi was completely baffled.
“Xia Rou, come sit over here.” Chi Xiao ‘enthusiastically’ kept the spot next to Lin Xi open.
As Xia Rou was about to move, her arm was intercepted by a hand. Li Luoyi stepped up first, occupied that seat, and offered her own spot to Xia Rou, saying thoughtfully, “You can’t eat spicy food, so sit here instead.”
Shen Miao rested her chin on her hand, watching everything quietly, feeling like she had a God’s-eye view—knowing but unable to say anything.
The five people were now seated.
Fortunately, with Chi Xiao present, the atmosphere wasn’t too dull or awkward. Cheerful, chatty, and humorous, she could effortlessly make everyone laugh, as if her mind held an endless supply of funny stories from abroad.
“Look at you, still like a little kid; you got some on your lip.”
Li Luoyi picked up a napkin and gently wiped Xia Rou’s mouth.
Such an intimate gesture made Xia Rou’s body involuntarily stiffen. After a second of surprise, she said, “I… I’ll do it myself.”
Lin Xi, sitting opposite, quietly watched the exchange, a strange emotion bubbling up inside—a feeling she deeply disliked.
Immediately after, Li Luoyi solicitously helped Xia Rou blanch meat and vegetables, showing attention and care throughout.
To an outsider, the two would have looked like a couple.
As the dinner drew to a close, Lin Xi excused herself to go to the restroom. Seeing this, Chi Xiao quickly followed her.
“I’ve paid the bill. Are you walking home with me later, or staying?”
Lin Xi stood in front of the sink, washing her hands with her head down. Although she tried to hide it well, she appeared to carry a subtle, inexplicable resentment compared to her usual self.
Chi Xiao noticed it, crossing her arms and saying, “You’re unhappy, aren’t you? I knew she was on your mind.”
The Alpha paused her hand-washing, then covered her voice with the sound of running water, saying, “I don’t know who you’re talking about.”
“Alright, stop pretending. We’re going to sing K later, and I’ll help you win back this round you lost.”
Lin Xi turned around, drying her hands without expression. “You guys go. I’m not interested.”
“No retreating!”
Chi Xiao gritted her teeth and forcibly hooked her arm.
By the time Lin Xi reacted, she was already seated in the private karaoke room.
“Li Luoyi? Do you want to pick a song?” Chi Xiao, sitting by the song-selection machine, interrupted Li Luoyi and Xia Rou’s conversation.
Li Luoyi thought for a moment and didn’t refuse. For her, this was a chance to show off in front of the person she liked.
Finally succeeding in steering Li Luoyi away, Chi Xiao kept winking at Lin Xi, but the latter remained unmoved, making Chi Xiao frustrated.
Xia Rou, on the other hand, didn’t need any prompting and proactively moved closer to Lin Xi to strike up a conversation.
“Aren’t you going to pick a song?” Xia Rou asked.
“I’m not a good singer.”
It sounded like a buzzkill, but it was the truth.
One sentence cut short what Xia Rou was planning to say next. Her mind racing, she took out her phone, opened the camera in selfie mode, and asked the person beside her, “Can I take a picture with you?”
Without waiting for Lin Xi to say yes or no, Xia Rou leaned in actively, practically resting against her shoulder, and quickly and cleanly snapped a picture before Lin Xi could react.
The moment the Omega leaned in, her faint scent lingered in Lin Xi’s nose. Lin Xi felt her entire body stiffen and unable to move, as if she were completely controlled and no longer her own, her hands and feet awkward.
Satisfied with the picture, Xia Rou sat back down, admiring the photo. The candid shot of Lin Xi looked slightly dazed but was her most genuine self, finally not looking so cold. Xia Rou really liked this photo.
Meanwhile, Lin Xi, next to her, was belatedly realizing her heart was racing.
“Do you want this picture?” Xia Rou turned and asked.
“…Hmm?” Distracted, Lin Xi hadn’t quite heard.
Xia Rou smiled faintly and said again, “I’ll send it to your phone later.”
Midway, Xia Rou volunteered to sing a few songs, all ones she was good at. She wasn’t sure if Lin Xi listened carefully, but any smart person wouldn’t miss a chance to perform in front of the person they liked.
Seeing that the two people she wanted to pair up weren’t interacting much, Chi Xiao decided to try a new trick. She had to create a chance for them to be alone.
So, she suggested going out to buy some late-night snacks and invited Li Luoyi and Shen Miao along.
Unexpectedly, Shen Miao readily agreed, but Li Luoyi smiled placidly and said, “There’s no need for so many people to buy snacks.”
Chi Xiao was furious, but maintained a smile on the surface: “Then Shen Miao and I will go. If you two want anything, just text it to our phones.”
This was the first time Chi Xiao and Shen Miao had met, yet they didn’t hold back. Once outside the KTV, they spoke plainly.
Shen Miao: “It’s obvious you’re trying to set up Lin Xi and Xia Rou?”
Chi Xiao: “It’s obvious your friend is interested in Xia Rou.”
After a brief silence, Shen Miao added, “Actually, you don’t need to try too hard. Xia Rou is already interested in Lin Xi. The key to this relationship is Lin Xi.”
Chi Xiao raised an eyebrow in surprise, feeling half-victorious herself. “That sets my mind at ease. I was feeling a bit defeated for not successfully distracting that Alpha.”
Seeing her happy expression, Shen Miao hesitated. Forget it, she decided not to mention Xia Rou’s amnesia.
From a friend’s perspective, she was quite conflicted: on one hand, she wanted to support Xia Rou in pursuing the person she liked; on the other, she was afraid Xia Rou would fall too deeply and be hurt when her memory returned.
Shen Miao: “In that case, let’s just grab something and head back soon.”
Chi Xiao glanced at her, hands in her pockets. “You’re different from the Omegas I know. Your approach is more like an Alpha’s.”
Shen Miao chuckled lightly. “Who says an Omega has to be fragile and pitiful?”
The group played until late at night before scattering.
On the way back, Xia Rou suddenly became curious and asked, “You went out with Chi Xiao for a bit in the middle. Did you two spark anything?”
Shen Miao smacked her lips and said dryly, “We’re different types. Definitely don’t ship us.”
Different types?
Weren’t they an Omega and an Alpha?
Xia Rou couldn’t figure it out even when she got home.
As it was on the way, Lin Xi dropped Chi Xiao off at her rented apartment building. “Don’t do that again next time.”
“You mean forcing you to go sing K? If you truly didn’t want to go, I couldn’t have forced you.”
With a look that suggested Lin Xi needed to figure things out for herself, Chi Xiao patted her shoulder and waved as she went upstairs.
Waiting for a taxi by the roadside, Lin Xi’s phone received a text message. She opened it to find the picture Xia Rou had sent.
In the photo, Lin Xi looked a little confused when she was captured, while the Omega leaning on her shoulder had a radiant smile.
Something in the deepest part of her heart seemed to soften suddenly.
The next second, she secretly long-pressed the image with her fingertip and saved it.
