After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 52
In the room, the Omega stared at herself in the mirror, utterly perplexed. How had it become to this? She was only having a pseudopregnancy; she was not actually pregnant. Her body did not need to be this realistic about it.
“Dammit,” Song Shuangtian muttered, resting her forehead against the cool glass of the mirror. Her heart was racing. She had not seen Ji Mingxue for an entire day. Under the influence of the pheromone shifts caused by the pregnancy, every minute passed with agonizing slowness.
Song Shuangtian wiped the beads of sweat from her forehead. She leaned by the window, gently pulling back the curtain to gaze out at the bustling city streets outside the apartment. After a long time, or perhaps only five minutes, a familiar red sports car slowly drove into the complex.
The Omega’s gaze cut through the flowing traffic, landing on the driver’s seat of the red convertible. Her Alpha was approaching. Song Shuangtian’s breathing quickened. Rationally, she did not miss Ji Mingxue; they had only been apart for a day. However, every cell in her body was screaming with a primitive longing.
I am truly pathetic, Song Shuangtian thought.
She curled herself into a cat ball on the sofa, wrapping her body in one of Ji Mingxue’s discarded shirts. “It hurts,” she whispered. She tried the techniques she had used before to alleviate the discomfort, but the effect was negligible.
A layer of heat shimmered on the Omega’s face. She stared dazed at her reflection in the floor-length mirror. The woman in the mirror was disheveled, clutching clothes that did not belong to her, with one hand gripping the edge of the sofa while the other was being quite restless.
What did she look like? A stain began to spread on the fabric. Song Shuangtian felt as though she might die of shame.
Parking the car in the underground garage, Ji Mingxue felt her heart skip a beat for no reason. She walked quickly into the elevator, forgetting her briefcase in her haste. When the digital lock clicked open, Ji Mingxue’s heart rate surged. Her fingertips were trembling with excitement.
The Alpha did not know why she was so agitated. Following a sudden intuition, she nervously straightened her clothes at the door. Ji Mingxue was dressed in a professional black, white, and gray suit. From any angle, she looked perfect and capable.
Like a peacock fanning its feathers, she smoothed out every wrinkle, confirming everything was in order before pushing the door open.
“You are finally back. I thought you had died out there,” Song Shuangtian snapped, her face flushed with anger and embarrassment. She picked up a plush slipper from the floor and threw it toward the door.
Ji Mingxue dodged it nimbly. “Tiantian?”
Song Shuangtian’s face was dark. However, because she was so flushed and disheveled, the air was thick with a faint, milky scent. This milky fragrance, mixed with the orange blossom of the Omega’s pheromones, wrapped around Ji Mingxue like a physical weight.
The Omega’s voice trembled. “What are you standing there for? Get over here, now.”
She sounded both soft and fierce, her tone laced with urgent longing. Ji Mingxue walked over quickly and knelt on one knee before the sofa. “Are you in pain? I will call the doctor.”
This was Ji Mingxue’s first time taking care of a pregnant woman. She forced her gaze away from the more sensitive areas. Although they had already made the rice into porridge years ago and had a four-year-old child, Ji Mingxue viewed the person before her as a pregnant woman, a sacred and inviolable presence.
“Are you stupid?”
The usually dignified Alpha power-player was being scolded repeatedly, but she habitually lowered her head in apology. “I am sorry, I am.”
Song Shuangtian interrupted her, grabbing her hand and pressing it against herself. Ji Mingxue felt the dampness on her palm and froze.
“Go read that Pregnancy Guide that should have been thrown into the trash long ago, you idiot.” Song Shuangtian’s voice grew quieter until her entire face was a bright shade of pink.
The Omega was so embarrassed that her head felt like it was steaming. Ji Mingxue did not dare move her hand, yet she did not dare use force either. Her composure shattered completely. Though there was a layer of clothing between them, Ji Mingxue felt as though she were touching Song Shuangtian’s very soul.
The Alpha’s ears burned. She used one hand to quickly flip through the book, finding the section on page 108 regarding swelling during pregnancy. Her fingers went stiff, and her throat felt as if it were stuffed with cotton. Her voice was low and muffled.
“The Pregnancy Guide says that it is recommended to do three clockwise circles, then three counter-clockwise circles. It must be slow.”
Song Shuangtian’s breathing was ragged. She awkwardly pulled one of Ji Mingxue’s shirts over her face to hide. Dammit, if I had known, I would never have said I was pregnant. She cursed internally. It was too humiliating.
“I did not realize CEO Ji treasured this trashy book so much. You even put a cover on it? A model student indeed.”
Ji Mingxue’s throat bobbed. “Yes. The book says it should continue for fifteen minutes. Do not be afraid.”
CEO Ji was extremely nervous. It was as if she were taking a closed-book exam. She was nearing her own rut, but she could endure it.
According to the Pregnancy Guide, this massage needed to be performed every morning and evening. Song Shuangtian could not help but throw the book onto the floor in frustration. Ji Mingxue silently picked it up, carefully brushing off non-existent dust and smoothing the folded corners.
The Omega glared at her, looking like a fierce kitten. “What are you staring at? I did not realize you were such a blockhead. Hurry up and mark me.”
Song Shuangtian felt like she had turned into water. Her body and reason were being burned by a fire, and her skin glowed pink with heat. She weakly peeled off the patch from the back of her neck. “Hurry up. Stop stalling.”
The Omega was a mess, but the Alpha was still impeccably dressed in an outfit suitable for any formal meeting.
“I am sorry, I cannot mark you right now,” Ji Mingxue said apologetically. “The book says that during pregnancy, an Omega should not be marked frequently, as it may affect the development of the child’s pheromones.”
Song Shuangtian was moved to angry laughter. Finding strength from nowhere, she grabbed Ji Mingxue’s collar and pulled her down toward her neck. “Bite me. Now.”
Song Shuangtian thought bitterly: I am letting her take advantage of me, and she refuses. Am I really that unattractive?
Ji Mingxue’s eyes darkened. She could feel the agony of Song Shuangtian’s body. Her lips brushed the soft gland. Driven by Alpha instinct, she let her sharp teeth graze the surface before quickly piercing the skin. A surge of sweet pheromones flowed into her mouth.
“Mmm.”
Song Shuangtian slumped weakly against Ji Mingxue, her neck arched high like a swan offered for sacrifice. The gods favored this Omega. Even though she had birthed a child, her body showed no signs of fatigue or age, save for the flame-like patterns on her abdomen.
The marking ended. Ji Mingxue kissed Song Shuangtian’s sweaty forehead. “Good girl, it is over. Do not be afraid.”
Ji Mingxue carried her to the bathtub to wash her body. It should have been a tender and romantic moment, but Song Shuangtian started talking about business.
“How was your work today? Are there any documents I need to sign? Work has not been busy lately, but you cannot slack off. Do not spend all your time on me.”
Ji Mingxue laughed. The Song Shuangtian in her arms was speaking seriously about work, as if the disheveled Omega from moments ago was someone else entirely. “There are indeed a few documents for you to sign.”
Mentioning the files, Ji Mingxue suddenly remembered she had left her briefcase in the car. Song Shuangtian shot her a glare. “Go get it then.”
Ji Mingxue dried Song Shuangtian off, wrapped her hair in a towel, and tucked her into bed before hurrying downstairs. The Omega fell asleep the moment she hit the mattress. She had been mumbling about work, but her spirit could not withstand her physical exhaustion, and she plunged into a deep sleep.
The capital in summer was not cool, but it was fresher than the air inside the house. Ji Mingxue sat in the driver’s seat, flipping through documents page by page and handling work on her laptop. She waited until the pheromones on her body had completely dissipated before walking to a convenience store to buy a lemon-flavored lollipop.
“Hello, Ma’am. Coffee is buy-one-get-one-half-off today. Would you like a bottle?”
Ji Mingxue, with one hand in her pocket and the other holding her briefcase, paused. “I will take two.”
With a crunch, the lemon lollipop was crushed between her teeth. She leaned against her car, quickly drinking one of the coffees. The two convenience store clerks exchanged glances.
“That Alpha is so beautiful. She still smells like an Omega.”
“Her fingers are gorgeous.”
“Housing prices in this complex are insane. Do you think she is some rich Omega’s bedmate? Used and then thrown out at this hour?”
“She must be very expensive then!”
There was still much work to do tonight. The night wind blew past the Alpha’s sharp eyes. She held the lollipop stick between her fingers like a cigarette. The bitterness of the bottled coffee lingered in her mouth. Ji Mingxue found a bench in the complex, placed her laptop on her knees, and continued processing pending tasks.
Was my Omega also this tired when she was completing the tasks I set for her at M Group? Ji Mingxue rubbed her aching temples. The white light of the screen was blinding. As the time in the corner changed, she let out an imperceptible sigh.
Reborn was in a critical stage of development. What Song Shuangtian called “not busy” was only by comparison to her peak periods. The current workload was still massive compared to other companies. Ji Mingxue needed to understand every project through these files. She could not afford to miss a single detail. Her eyes scanned the screen rapidly. She had to keep going. If she did not finish the work, it would all pile back onto Song Shuangtian.
Her Omega was pregnant and could not work. It was best if she did not touch any electronic devices at all. Ji Mingxue had become like the most traditional patriarch toward a pregnant wife, believing almost everything in the world was harmful. The most harmful of which was work.
The moon rose high. Ji Mingxue slapped the last mosquito that landed on the back of her hand. Having finished the last file, she finally escaped the tedious work.
“Karma is real,” she muttered with a bitter smile. She regretted pushing Song Shuangtian so hard back then. All those talks about promotions, raises, and the best path for training. What kind of sugar parent makes their little employee work overtime? The boomerang had come back to hit her.
“Did you know? Song Shuangtian, who used to work in our design department, is actually the founder of Reborn.”
“Wait, you mean that Song Shuangtian?”
“Yes. I thought it was just the same name, but it is actually her.”
“My CPU is frying. The current Chairperson of Reborn is Song Shuangtian, and the former heir to ST Group was also Song Shuangtian.”
The employees in the M Group breakroom looked dazed.
“No matter how ridiculous it is, we have to believe it. The Chairperson of Reborn worked in our department for a while. I even asked her to get me coffee.”
“Crap, me too. I asked her to pick up my packages.”
“Wait, weren’t there rumors that she and CEO Ji had a thing?”
A minor leader leaning by the water dispenser waved a hand. “Back then she was a low-level employee. They definitely had that kind of relationship. But now her status is different. Do you think there is actual love between them?”
“It is just a temporary fling between rich people. Have you ever seen Song Shuangtian mention CEO Ji in public?”
The three people nodded. Only Cui Yu remained silent. Cui Yu had been Song Shuangtian’s direct supervisor. She had seen Song Shuangtian’s extraordinary talent and had been genuinely happy when she caught CEO Ji’s eye. When Song Shuangtian resigned, Cui Yu had been disappointed for a long time. Now that Song Shuangtian’s status was vastly different, Cui Yu felt a dull ache in her heart.
“But I do not think CEO Ji is the type to play with feelings, and Song Shuangtian is not the type to use feelings as a stepping stone.”
Cui Yu had been promoted and held the highest rank among them. Her words caused a brief silence in the breakroom. The other employees did not dare contradict her, but they rolled their eyes internally. What year is this? Are there still pure love fans?
“Then have you seen Song Shuangtian visit our group once since she resigned?”
Cui Yu pursed her lips. “She is probably just busy.”
One person curled their lip. “Reborn is doing so well. You cannot even buy the basic models with extra money. She used CEO Ji to make a fortune, and now that she is successful, she probably does not even know where the front door of her old employer is.”
“Are you all very idle?”
Lu Xing passed by the breakroom and heard the gossiping. She knocked on the door with a cold expression. Upon seeing her, the crowd scattered like startled birds, leaving only Cui Yu. Since Song Shuangtian resigned, she had even deleted Cui Yu’s contact information.
Lu Xing’s sharp eyes scanned the room through her glasses. She was as cold as a string of code dedicated to work. Employees rarely saw CEO Ji, but they were all too familiar with this Vice President. She had once brought a veteran employee to tears with just a few sentences.
“VP Lu,” Cui Yu nodded.
Lu Xing stopped. “Is there something else?”
Cui Yu hesitated. “How has Song Shuangtian been lately?”
Lu Xing’s expression softened slightly. “She is quite well.”
She is pregnant again. Does that count as well? Lu Xing was frustrated by her increased workload. She was ambitious, but that did not mean she enjoyed being a workhorse. The boss was busy taking care of a pregnant woman and doing Reborn’s work, so Lu Xing was doing most of M Group’s work. She was truly a workhorse.
Cui Yu nodded gloomily. She wanted to believe Song Shuangtian was not a fair-weather friend. But the internal evaluation of Song Shuangtian within M Group was not high. Some even thought her character was questionable. Perhaps the people at M Group, who had always been at the peak, could not stand to see Reborn doing so well and felt a strong sense of crisis. They did not know that their big boss was already working for Reborn for free, parading around with a Reborn ID badge every day.
“I cannot go in?”
Song Shuangtian pressed her fingerprint to the gate, which responded with a red alert and a series of beeps. The receptionist looked at the woman in peach-colored sunglasses and a loose white dress. “Do you have an appointment, Ma’am?”
The Omega was moved to angry laughter. “An appointment? I need an appointment to come here?”
The receptionists looked at each other and prepared to call security. The boomerang had finally hit home.
“Do you have an employee pass?”
“I am not one of your employees.”
“I am sorry. Please come back after making an appointment. An employee from the corresponding department will receive you.”
Song Shuangtian was silent. She had come today to discuss Guanguan’s kindergarten homework with Ji Mingxue. The teacher needed a family photo. After inspecting Reborn, she had driven over, planning to pick up Guanguan with Ji Mingxue. Song Shuangtian did not want to make things hard for the receptionist, but she rubbed her aching forehead, wanting to give Ji Mingxue a beating. When she resigned, Ji Mingxue had immediately deactivated all her access cards in a fit of rage. She was permanently blacklisted.
Cui Yu came downstairs to pick up her delivery and saw a familiar figure standing at the front desk, speaking irritably into her phone. Cui Yu froze. “Song Shuangtian?”
The Omega lifted her sunglasses. After two seconds of recognition, she gave a kind smile. “Cui Yu.”
Cui Yu was surprised. “It really is you!”
Song Shuangtian smiled at her. “I heard you were promoted. Congratulations.”
Cui Yu felt as if a lifetime had passed. She thought of the bad rumors and, seeing Song Shuangtian blocked at the front desk, wanted to use her own card to bring her in. More and more employees passed by, their gazes landing on Song Shuangtian’s semi-familiar face. A few recognized her but did not know how to handle the situation.
Before two seconds had passed, the elevator doors opened. Ji Mingxue strode out from the private elevator and took Song Shuangtian’s hand. “I am sorry. I forgot to give you access.”
Song Shuangtian gave a half-smile. “It seems I am not welcome here. Should I leave?”
Ji Mingxue apologized and immediately hung her own card around Song Shuangtian’s neck. Everyone in every department knew Ji Mingxue’s face. She did not need a card anywhere.
Someone who looked elegant and in control was actually breaking into a cold sweat from nervousness. Ji Mingxue led Song Shuangtian into the private elevator. This scene was witnessed by all the employees. There was no contract couple or mutual exploitation here. The young couple was clearly very much in love. CEO Ji’s smile was practically reaching her ears.
Song Shuangtian snorted. “Who wants your card? I am not coming back next time.”
Ji Mingxue said a few more sweet words until the elevator doors closed, never letting go of Song Shuangtian’s hand. What a joke. Song Shuangtian could lock her out, but she had no right to lock Song Shuangtian out. She could walk through a dirty kitchen, but could she let Song Shuangtian be inconvenienced? CEO Ji was truly afraid of her wife.
“Rest in the office for a bit. I will have someone order lunch for you.” Her Omega was pregnant and needed meals specifically designed for it.
Song Shuangtian stood alone in the familiar office. She sat on Ji Mingxue’s desk, kicking her high heels far away. She did not care about workplace etiquette. It was a favor that she had even shown up. She decided to give Ji Mingxue a demerit and see how she performed later.
“What is this?”
Song Shuangtian flipped through the files on the desk and spotted a jewelry design draft among them. Based on the brushstrokes, Ji Mingxue had drawn it herself. A slender necklace was rendered on the paper, consisting of a white gold chain with a high-quality pink diamond hanging in the center. The diamond looked to be the size of a knuckle, like an ice crystal hanging from a branch in winter. It was surrounded by a halo of small diamonds, creating a brilliant ring of light. The dreamy pink diamond combined with the dazzling shimmer of the smaller stones was beautiful enough to appear in a Barbie collection. It was very girly.
Ji Mingxue mostly handled major decisions and rarely did design work. Song Shuangtian did not understand how she found time to design jewelry amidst her busy schedule. Was the work at Reborn not enough to keep her occupied? An Alpha’s stamina is truly something.
Ji Mingxue pushed the door open holding ten food containers and saw her Omega sitting on the desk with her legs crossed, looking at the design draft. The sunlight from outside cast a golden glow around her. The corners of the Omega’s mouth were slightly turned up. She probably did not even know she was smiling. Ji Mingxue felt she could smell the pleasant scent of the sun on her hair.
“Tiantian.”
Ji Mingxue placed the food on the table and bent down to pick up the high heels Song Shuangtian had kicked aside. “Do not wear high heels while you are pregnant.”
She placed the heels by the door, took a pair of soft and furry slippers from the cabinet, and knelt on one knee. She took one of Song Shuangtian’s feet and slipped it into a slipper. The pink slippers made of rabbit fur did not belong in summer, but it was clearly a gift Ji Mingxue had carefully chosen. Just having the Omega sitting in her office made the whole room seem brighter.
Song Shuangtian whispered, “I am not pregnant.”
Ji Mingxue sighed. “Tiantian, I saw the pregnancy test you threw in the trash. Stop joking.”
Song Shuangtian was silent. It was over. Completely over. How was she going to explain this to Ji Mingxue?
Song Shuangtian’s smile was awkward. After Ji Mingxue washed her hands, she opened the containers and placed the dishes one by one on the desk where countless important documents had been signed. Those documents were now piled haphazardly to the side.
“Come down,” Ji Mingxue said.
Song Shuangtian did not listen.
“Should I feed you?”
Song Shuangtian was stunned. Aside from her infancy, she had never had the experience of someone feeding her. Ji Mingxue patiently gathered half a meatball, a vegetable leaf, and a few kernels of corn on the rice. She brought the spoon to her own lips to test the temperature before offering it to Song Shuangtian.
The book said a pregnant woman’s meals must be nutritionally balanced. “Open up.”
Song Shuangtian looked at the giant spoonful of food. Her earlier flutter of emotion vanished instantly. She said expressionlessly, “Who are you trying to choke to death?”
